* Ability to drop missions. Coming soon!(TM) I know this will make a lot of players happy that they don't need to contact Customer Service just to continue thier story arcs.

Never getting the Statesman's Pal badge (due to being stuck with the Tyrant mission): priceless. -

Between this and what Circeus has posted, I think I understand what Gauntlet is, but doesn't it seem a little more complicated design than it needs to be?

Isn't 90% of the game more complicated design than it needs to be?
[/ QUOTE ]
With all of the instability we have atm, I have to agree. -
[ QUOTE ]
Gauntlet is a generic name for a variety of powers which all include an inherent 'Taunt' effect. The text says "Each time the Tanker attacks, he enrages the target, and those around him, enticing them to attack the Tanker."
So, what is an attack?
* Any of your Melee Powers which damage a target, and many that simply apply a Status Effect. Single Target attacks are limited to 5 critters effected per attack. PBAoE's such as Whirling Mace are limited to the number of critters that take damage -- in this case, up to 10 critters.
* Any 'Aura' powers you may have, such as Icicles or Invincibility.
Note that there is no distinction between Primary and Secondary powersets, Epic Powersets or Pool Powers? These all have Gauntlet on them, to one extent or another (Pool Powers version is limited to 1 target, and only the direct attacks have it.)
If you are dealing with +3's or higher, it may be worthwhile to slot a Taunt enhancer or two into the powers you are using. They *do* help.

Personally, I hate the word, and try never to use it when talking about the game to players. It carries a very negative stigma that I like to avoid whenever possible.

Date: 07/14/06
Time: 8:00 pm
Where: The Hive
Leader Positions: B.O.S.S. members will hold the lead positions this evening.

We hope to see all of the heroes that answer the call and do their part in this raid. -

FYI: Electric Shields' Grounding Power will have Immobilize and Knockback Protection added. The set will still not have a Heal power or HP Buff power.

Here is a complete list of all powers which have DropToggles associated with them and the percentage chance of the attribute taking place. In the case of powers which have a chance of dropping 2 toggles, I calculated the chance for this to happen and included it in the list.
Note: Blaster, Corruptor and Mastermind Trip Mines have drastically different percentages. I think this is a Bug -- I think the Corruptor/MM version was skipped when making these changes, or Trip Mine for Villains was increased, and Blasters were skipped. Either way, I'll be making changes to the chances for that in a future update.

Thanks for the work that you do, Castle. It will be interesting to see how this works out. By all means, keep uo the good work.
You know, in I4 the Devs said that the game was being balanced not with one-on-one PvP in mind but more for group-based PvP. I am trying to figure out what is so hard about comprehending that for people. -

But.. but... what if he was only there to take in the sightss? What if he's role-playing that he's a consultant for the Tsoo and advising them on their fighting techniques? What if he's just surveying the area for new Mapolis Guide to Kickin' Butt on $5 a Day?
Then... why, you'd be GRIEFING him if your SG attacked him!
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, you are another one missing the point, Samus. I am ONLY concerned with people that use exploits and people that intentionally give other players debt. That's it. I don't give a damn about anything else that goes on in an open PvP zone. -
[ QUOTE ]
the problem is PvP debt.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly my point and the problem. No matter how you feel about debt, intentionally giving it to someone (monster training, TPing into mobs, etc.) is griefing in every aspect of this game except (apparently) PvP zones. THAT is the issue here that I am concerned with. -

There's a difference in playing to have fun, and having fun by ruining other people's fun. There's a difference between winning a friendly competition, and dominating an opponent by superior firepower or numbers or some other unfair advantage.
And each of us should damn well understand those differences, whether we admit it here or not.
If for some reason you don't know the difference at this point in your life, there's no point in wasting my time by trying to explain it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to agree at this point, T.
Thanks for pointing out the "no rules" in PvP zones, Cuppa. Well, that just set back the PvP interest I was trying to drum up for the zones.Too bad, too. Looks like I am going to have to agree with Wildstar on this one. Kill on sight it is.

Gumbo
1 1/2 cups Medium Dark Roux, see How To Roux, recipe follows
2 cups diced onions
1 cup diced celery
1 cup diced green bell pepper
1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
2 quarts shrimp, crab or chicken stock
1 pound andouille sausage, sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds, browned in a skillet, and drained on paper towels
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot sauce
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon cajun spice
1/2 pound lump crabmeat, picked over for shells and cartilage
1/3 cup green onion tops, chopped
1/2 cup coarsely chopped parsley leaves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup file powder, or to taste
Steamed White Rice, for serving
Heat the roux in a medium-sized heavy stockpot over medium-high heat. When hot, add the onions, celery and bell pepper. Stir mixture until onions begin to brown, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and continue to cook for 1 minute. Slowly pour in stock, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Add the browned sausage, bay leaves, Worcestershire, hot sauce, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
Bring gumbo to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer until gumbo is slightly reduced, about 50 minutes. (Gumbo should cook long enough for the roux flavor to mellow and for any floury taste to dissipate.)
Season the shrimp with the cajun spice in a small bowl. Stir in the seasoned shrimp, crabmeat, green onions, parsley, thyme and basil. Cook until shrimp are cooked through, about 5 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings, if necessary. Sprinkle in file powder and cook, stirring, 2 minutes more, or pass file at the table for guests to thicken as desired. Remove bay leaves before serving.
Serve in warmed soup bowls over steamed white rice.
How to Roux:
3 cups vegetable oil
5 cups all-purpose flour
Place a heavy, iron Dutch oven, (or iron skillet with deep sides) over medium heat and heat the oil until just smoking. Whisk in flour, a little at a time and cook, whisking constantly, until roux becomes smooth and thick. Continue to cook, constantly stirring with a wooden spoon and reaching all over bottom of pan, until roux darkens to desired color. Be careful not to produce specs of black. The roux must remain an even color throughout process. If specs appear you must start over.

IDK if this was brought up because i dont feel like reading the whole entire thread, but i acctually thought about it when i just made my post, here it is:
Cuppa, is someone in a PvP zone aloud to Teleport you, hold you, immobilize you, or in any way do something to you that you cant control INTO a PvE mob? Does that count and is acceptable? Because that has happened to me 1000+ times and i HATE getting debt.
Now your probably going to say that this is a PvP zone and it has risks and i understand that. But then why are PvE's in a PvP zone? I can understand for Sirens Call that you need them in there and the meteor guys in BB and the guys in the "web" for WB.
But can a player do that to ya?

Sure a few guys got killed by NPC damage so they got debt, but it is a valid tactic yes?

You are also talking about someone that used their GM rights in CoH beta to monster grief a group just because they griefed him. Mage Storm was 100% correct in this thread earlier. Just because you can do something doesn't make it right, Samus.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Right" is a subjective term. What might be "right" to you, may not be "right" in my opinion. When it comes to a online gaming, "right" is irrelevant, only what is and is not allowable.
If I go to Warburg, and all I want to do is launch the missile, I have no desire to engage any other players, is it "right" for someone to attack me anyways?
If I go to Bloody Bay, and all I want to do is collect the meteor shards, is it "right" for another player to attack me?
If I go to Siren's Call, and only want to engage mobs in Hot Spot battles, and never attack another player, is it "right" to be attacked by one?
The answer to all of the above questions is contained in Cuppa's earlier post.
Thing is, "right" is a matter of personal interpretation. I don't think it's "right", for example, for people to be named things like "Chicken McNuggets", "FattyBlasterBoi" or "IRHeeler" in game. I don't think it's "right" for 8 different people to spam broadcast that they are all LFT when they could just join up and form a team themselves. There are many things which we each might individually consider to not be "right"... but none of that matters.
What DOES matter is if it is "allowed". The devs have stated that attacking someone, who is in a PVP zone, even if they don't WANT to be attacked, is allowed. Even if they are claiming exemption because they are RPing. Even if they are fighting a group of mobs. The devs have also stated that getting mobs to do your dirty work for you, be it bringing the mobs to you, or even bringing you to the mobs (like TPing you, or pulling you), is allowed.
If you do not want other players to have the opportunity to be able to cause you to die, regardless of HOW they cause it, then your only option is to stay out of the PVP zones, it's really that simple.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your absolutely right, Samus, right is a subjective term here. I am not concerned with anything in an open PvP zone aside from griefing and causing people debt (Which is griefing everywhere else in the game, btw.). -

I dunno, 36M is a bit much, IMO.
A starting amount of, say ... 500K? And up the per-member bonus for the first fifteen members to 50K or 100K each? That would certainly help, a LOT. In the short run. But I'd prefer a long-run solution to a short-term bandaid.
[/ QUOTE ]
The high prestige grant would end threads like this and make the game more fun, which is why we are all here in the first place. We would have alot more options for fun with high prestige than low, IMO. It also solves the issue of small to large SGs that is fair for everyone. We aren't here to turn base making into a job, which is what the current system really does. I'd rather have more fun than less, wouldn't you? -
[ QUOTE ]
Right now a lot of posts have talked about the high Prestige cost of Base items - and that they're bringing in a ton of Salvage but can't really do anything about it.
Bases, as they currently stand, really focus on mid and large sized groups earning Prestige - so the complaints have a good point. We're trying to work something out so that a smaller group can get something useful quickly - and also put Salvage to use! Can't promise a timeline, but we are working on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
What about this solution:
Give SGs the 36 million that we had during beta and that we receive currently on test. This is easily implemented, everyone gets to enjoy the content, and we can really start pushing the base raid system to see how it will truly work.
