There are only two missions that I usually skip and auto-complete. The mission that gives you the contact in The Hollows (usually the first mission you get in Kings Row) and the last mission of the second arc in Croatoa (where you have to prevent that a certain number of Firbolg enter a stone gate or so).

All the APPs you listed are very nice. Stone is a bit intrusive to your costume and you might want to check how it looks first.
On my Fire/Kin I took Fire and I took that mainly for thematical reasons.
Without knowing your build and playstyle better it's really hard to say what would be the best choice for you. At least you can't make a bad choice here. -
Hi Silas! *waves*
Here's my 2ct:
Quote:Well, I didn't die. It just took so long to get all the dayjob badges.there are only two people who can play Storm well and they both died in the 1800s!
Quote:Gale:
Quote:O2 Boost:
Quote:Steamy Mist:
Quote:Freezing Rain:
Quote:Hurricane:
And yes, some recharge doesn't hurt. Hurricane is at a recharge of 5s in my build (down from 10s) which seems to be enough. Most of the recharge comes from global recharge bonuses, though.
Hurricane can generate a lof of aggro and I'm not talking about NPCs.So get back to the top of this thread and reread the HTNBA section in Silas guide. Now!
Quote:Tornado:
It should be noted, that Tornado takes Pet IOs. Soulbound Allegiance is quite cheap for a purple set and gives an impressive bonus to regen and HP for example.
Quote:So uh. Hope this has been helpful. -
Quote:Oh, ... I know this, ... I know this.If Monorail Cat is leaving the station at 9pm going 45 MPH, and Longcat hits the track at around 4:30pm going 15 MPH, how long will it take for the Mem to form?
Lets see, Monorail Cat leaves at 9pm and is going 45 mph, which is very fast, so she might get tired soon probably taking a catnap ... and hungry of course ... I think some tuna would be nice now ... and considering the attention span of cats ... wait, ... ... look, a pretty butterfly ... -
My opinion? I think CoV was a mistake on several levels.
I don't think it's a good idea to divide your own playerbase into two opposing factions if you don't have as many players as that other MMO. By making 30-50% of the playerbase invisible to each other you lessen the chance of finding other players to team with and you make it appear as if you have a much smaller playerbase than you actually have, which is bad PR.
Having two exclusive sides means you have to develop for each side. Anything you'll add to just one side of the game can only be experienced by a fraction of the playerbase. Thus you increase development costs and risk alienating the fraction of the playerbase that thinks it got less - Devs hate Villains.
The design of CoV is inherently flawed. The promise is, that you may play a villain. But the truth is, that it's only CoH painted red. The fundamental problem is in the basic motivation of heroes and villains. A villain is striving for change. The villain wants to accumulate power and ultimately wants to rule the world or something along these lines. Whereas the hero is fighting to preserve. Stability works well for a MMO, change doesn't. Actually I don't think it's possible for a teen rated PvE MMO like CoX to really have true villains. Even the villain NPCs in CoX are quite benign.
There is more. Problems with the ingame economy, artificial limits in co-op play (actually co-op play was a first step to bring the sides back together, GR seems to be the next step), balancing issues and maybe some other things.
Sure, CoV added some nice stuff. But I believe it would have been better to add it as an open expansion to CoH instead of treating it almost like a separate game. -
I disagree. Hurricane doesn't help against ranged attacks. Instead Hurricane slightly increases the likelihood of getting attacked with ranged attacks. Even if Steamy Mist gave +res to S/L/F/C/E/N instead of giving it only to F/C/E it would be better to slot it for defense in many cases.

Quote:There's always some risk, of course, but if you trade the IO for 2Bn in a first step you already have more than you could get from WW (because WW takes 10%). I haven't done it before, but I think I would give away the IO in the first exchange and simply trust that the other person pays the price that we agreed on.Kind of an idiot's question, but rather than how much do they go for, I'm curious on the logistics of the trade itself. Since the inf cap is 2b, mechanically how is the trade performed?
Who takes the bigger risk of getting scammed the IO holder or the inf holder? What I mean is, if Person A has the IO, and Person B has 4b inf. B can give A 2 Bil in return for nothing. Then the other 2 bil in return for the IO. This means B is at risk of A walking away with the first 2 bil. Or 2 bil in trade for the IO, then the other 2 bil for nothing. This puts A at risk B will walk away getting the IO at half price. Or you could add in other multi-hundred inf IOs as collateral.
So, mechanically, how does a "more than 2b inf" trade happen? -
There's another albeit tougher way to beat him if you don't have (enough) debuffs. The Honoree doesn't have perma-unstoppable. There are short gaps. It is possible to kill him during one of these short gaps, if you have enough DPS.

Quote:Perhaps my impression about the conventional wisdom is based on reading lots of build guides, some of which predate IOs and the rush to the soft cap. Nonetheless, I continue to see some smart people repeating the "slot for resist" mantra quite recently, such as here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=196722&page=3
I can't say that I read every Storm/Dark/Cold guide there is. However, I wrote a guide for Storm Summoning myself and I recommended slotting Steamy Mist for +def. Plus I disagree with some other aspects in Silas Storm guide. Still kudos to him for the effort of writing such a big guide. As far as I can see at a glance it's largely ok (for me).
(This reminds me that I need to update my guide in the near future.)

Dorcas The Destroyer was still unaware of the peculiar effect Jacks prank drink had caused to him.

A well played Fire/Kin is very good against large numbers of soft targets and can wipe them extremely fast. This is why Fire/Kins make good farming toons. Not to say that there are other powerset combinations that are comparably good or even better at it.
And if you combine farming with PLing you won't have issues with L1-32 either.
However, there are many Fire/Kins out there that are being played just because the people on the other side of the screen have fun with them. They are very nice additions to teams of all sizes and levels and make teams considerably stronger through their buffs and crowd control. -
Quote:Suggestions and Ideas? There's a whole subsection of the forum just for that.Just to keep discussion going on the subject of adding a Swinging travel power to CoX I resubmit the following:
Swinging
Quote:Gymnastics - You have honed your body to the peak of perfection allowing you to race across the rooftops with amazing speed and agility. Almost no obstacle exists that you cannot overcome or bypass with relative ease.
+5 Def buff, improved jump (50% Hurdle) and improved speed (50%Swift)
Quote:Spin Kick - You put the momentum of your entire body behind this ferocious kick. The sheer power of this attack is such that it will bring even the strongest man to his knees.
32 smashing damage, KD, melee range
Quote:Swinging - When the rooftops run out there is only one thing to do, take to the air! With a grapnel and a stout cable you fly without wings and the canyons of concrete and glass are now your playground.
similar to Super Jump in speed and operation
Quote:Equilibrium - You have attained perfect balance allowing you to keep your feet no matter what is thrown your way.
+4 mag KB protection
All in all not a good suggestion, sorry. -
I have difficulties to see this happening.
What if I switch sides with my L50 and respec on the other side? Does this mean I'll loose my power choices and now have to pick from a different set of ancillary powers?
I think it's more likely that the devs simply add patron contacts for villain ATs to the blue side and leave the rest as it is. Or, if we're really lucky, they'll proliferate some ancillary powers and create new sets of ancillary pool powers for each AT. -

Err... I assume "just smash/lethal" is referring to Tough? Because Weave gives +def (all) and gives almost twice the value Maneuvers provides.
-
Some weeks ago I actually tested this. I started in Outbreak, because I wanted the two large inspirations you get there to get some starting capital. I sold these for like 100k or so and started buying recipes cheap and selling them to the vendor for some profit. To get more recipe and salvage room and more slots at WW, I joined a sewers team and made it to level 10 (because it was annoying and tedious with the limited storage you have at L2). Then I went back to WW and started buying, selling, sometimes crafting or converting stuff before selling the result. I was up to 56 million influence after three days (I logged only a few hours with the toon - including the sewers run, but the breaks helped to fill bids). It's really easy and the more influence you have the easier it gets.

Why bother rolling yet another Fire/Kin/* farmer when you already have so many?
Fire/Kin/Stone is the best for farming (at least in most cases and for many play styles) because Rock Armor is the easiest way to softcap S/L defense and with capped defense your survivability will be more than twice as good as the survivability of a Fire/Kin/Psi with 70% resistance and 20ish% defense to S/L (this is roughly what you can get, give or a take 1%).
Besides, getting your resistance and defense up on a Fire/Kin/Psi will hurt your recharge. -
Quote:It is all about survivability (of the character, not the Imps). Boxing or Kick is just a prerequisite on the way to Tough and Weave. Some people use Boxing/Kick as a mule for certain melee IOs, though.I have a fire/kin at the mid 30's and really starting to enjoy the build now, but while looking at other builds I've noticed that most select the fighting pool with either boxing or kick selected along with tough and weave. My question is why this pool? and what does it do for the build?. Is is just to allow extra slotting options or is there a purpose behind it? I've noticed that while fire imps do a decent amount of damage, while aggroing everything in range, they tend to be a bit squishy. Does this pool help them out as well as the user?
Any help or answers to this question will be appreciated.
Thanks.
DragonsFyre
Tough can be slotted to give roughly 23% resistance against smashing and lethal type damage. These are very common damage types and even if you don't combine it with resistance based shields like Fire Mastery/Fire Shield or Psionic Mastery/Mind over Body or Primal Forces Mastery/Temp Invulnerability you should note the increase in survivability.
Weave on the other hand gives roughly 7% defense against all damage types (typed defense, i.e. smashing, lethal, fire, cold, energy, etc.) and vectors (positional defense, i.e. melee, ranged, AoE) after slotting. This is a large step towards the soft cap of 45% defense and not only useful for defense based shields like Ice Mastery/Frozen Armor and Stone Mastery/Rock Armor but also for people who try to cap ranged and AoE defense or at least get close to the cap. -
Quote:Wait, I read the perfect answer to this not so long ago...Why in the world do they go for 75k, when components go for a fraction of that.
Oops did I say that out loud?
*searching*
Ah, found it ... I knew it was recent:
-
I usually don't bother with IOs till L47+. With one exception. There are some IOs that give knockback protection and I slot them as early as possible if I play a character who is in melee often without having KB protection from his/her powersets (like Dark Armor and Fiery Aura Tankers and Scrappers or Blappers and Fire/Kins).
-
Quote:Have you tried it? Maybe it's true.
Be careful not to be too close to an enemy when he is zapped by a gun or you may be taken down by the gun as well
Nice find, btw. -
If you're switching from the EU servers you're probably living in the EU meaning that you're several hours ahead of US time zones. You'll be able to find teams, but if you're unlucky it might take some time. Considering this I'd go for an AT with good solo abilities. Scrappers are probably the best soloers blue side. But if you roll a Defender you'll trade some solo ability for better chances to get invited to a team (at least that's what I experienced). In the end anything will go as long as you're comfortable playing it.

Quote:I farmed it, just like the rest of us. I used to set it up each morning, before I went to work. However, the ISP I had then, resetted the connection every 6 hours or so. And I coudn't run it over night because my computer was just too loud. I think I farmed damage for nearly two years ... that's what I meant when I said it was painful. And just for my curiousity Myriad (apart from my open jawed respects to you for your version of Immortal
), did you get it "in combat" or did you do an epic version of the "resting farm" as we are doing?
At my rate, to get a Billion points, would take 2703 hours, or approx 113 days at 24/7, ie nearly 4 months farmingArghhhh...............

Quote:Too bad you already converted all the base salvage. Some of them are REALLY valuable nowadays. If you want to make influence I'd say convert them to rare salvage and sell that. Even rare tech salvage sells for millions these days so it should be ok to roll for random rare tech or arcane salvage at 20 Brainstorms per roll. However, at 75k per Brainstorm it would be ok to sell them as they are. But I doubt the price with stay there. I would expect to see prices around 33,000 inf per Brainstorm in the long run.Back when Base Salvage got removed from the game, a bank SG my Hero character was in had 3 full and 1 partially full salvage bins. I was bored that day, so I converted the whole pile into Brain Storm Ideas. This resulted in 3,182 Brain Storm Ideas (and almost wore out a mouse & my finger from clicking and got my alt Tank 4 of the crafting badges to boot).
For whatever reason, I've been holding onto them since then. So i'm looking for suggestions on what would be the best way to cash out on these. So All Ye of The Ebilness, pray tell what path I should take:
Wipe out all the current market bids ? There was something like 2k bids, last 5 bids was 75k or so when I checked last night.
Slowly feed them into the market for 11 inf each ? That could take forever though...
Convert to Invention Salvage ? 40 BSIs will get you a Tech or Arcane Rare salvage, 20 is Random Tech or Arcane Rare. This equates to 79 or 159 pcs depending on declared or random.
Hand out as party favors ? Delete stack ? Random gifts ? <YOUR IDEA HERE> ?
And if you decide to give them away for free, I'll be more than happy to take them.
