  1. I have loads of fun with my fire/ice blaster and my dark/dark corrupter in hovermode.

Although, I must say that /dark is somewhat of a pain in having to drop down to use some of the PBAoE attacks. Not so much fun to get pummeled trying to use them. It kind of defeats the purpose.

I dunno, it didn't work out that way for me. I successfully completed all the missions up until the bomb/kill all mission and the final stupid mob was bugged and stuck in a wall. I could see the mob there, trying to get to me, but I couldn't hit it.

There was literally nothing I could do except watch helplessly as the timer ticked down to zero... and FAIL.

All following missions were completed successfully, but no badge.

Failing because I messed up, sure, I get that, but failing because of a bugged mob? That hurts, heh.
  3. Wasn't sure where to put this, but one of the arcs on the list:

    Quote:
Hunter of Beasts Part 1: It starts with a riot... (#110465) H5-14
A riot in Kings Row leads into an investigation of a deadly serial killer.
Is giving an error MADoorinvalid when you try to enter the first quest, so the arc is unplayable right now. Reported it to the author using the feedback tool as well.
  4. This map problem has been around for a long time. It gets fixed, then rebreaks when new maps are added. Has something to do with exceeding the limits the game has set on data retention(?).

I can't find the thread, but there was a rather lengthy one discussing the fog of war returning after switching characters.

It happens to me all the time when I switch between multiple alts and do any sort of activity that clears an area on a map. I don't have multiple accounts, so that's not the cause specifically.

You may also notice that some of the map options you have set, such as what items to show on the map will reset to the default, or turn off.
  5. Thank you for this info. I was wondering why the Paragonwiki site seemed to be acting up and running so slowly yesterday.

I'm going to guess that the highest risk was to those that actually log into the Titan Network sister sites? My password and login for the Titan pass thing seems to no longer work, so I haven't logged into any of the sites for several years.

I run NoScript with FF and Ad-block Plus, but I always give Paragonwiki full script access each time I visit.

I ran a couple of scans and found nothing on my computer, so that's a relief.
  6. Yes x 1000.

I don't even have half that number of things in my powers list and it's a mess to find anything.
  7. Heh, I saw that guy last night!

He ran off saying something about having be somewhere because his cape wasn't going to pick itself up, or clean itself. Something of that nature.

I just want whatever the freakin' enhancement is that improves Immobilization (or whatever) and I would really like to find it without having to sort through 2 dozen other enhancements trying to find out which obscure verbal code I'm actually looking for. Is mouseover really that hard to impliment here?
Agreed, without a doubt. I don't get why there's at least no mouse-over tooltip in the shops that describe what the enhances are. Having to right click and look at the info for each one to find the one you need is tedious. I used to get around it by buying up all the enhances I'd need for an alt for several levels and dumping them in the SG storage bins rather than having to sort through the whole list at the vendor each time.

    Quote:
Combining Enhancements. I can tell the game to stop reminding me whenever I'm slotting something of a lower level (I KNOW it's lower level - but this one is an SO, not a DO...) and other such tedious tics. Unless there's really significant coding reasons behind it - why shouldn't the combining be automatic foreevermore after I hit a little radio button that says, "Don't EVER remind me about this trivial crap again?"
I usually don't even bother with combining if I'm in a hurry, though I do agree with you that the extra screen seems like an unneeded step.

(Keep in mind, I only just got back, so I don't have a clue how the new enhancement boosters work and I don't even have access to them and probably never will given how high up on the tier they are.)
  9. I haven't even used the feature yet. I keep forgetting it's even there. 'Course, I'm still stubbornly putting off travel powers in favor of more attacks for an attack chain and running everywhere with good old sprint. I even forget we can call contacts much earlier now and am still running all over the Hollows like a fool, haha.

    /old
  10. I once said that I'd never leave CoH for anything, but when a period of unemployment forced me to let my sub drop, that kinda got blown out of the water big time.

Once money was no longer an issue, my family wanted me to join them in another game. Couldn't afford subbing full time to two games, so I chose to be with the family. I can't say I regret doing that, even if it meant I left CoX for 3 years.

I missed this game like crazy and since we can afford me playing both now, I'm back and taking a much needed break from my other game until the next huge content patch hits. I'm staying VIP as long as I can afford to do so and enjoying playing once more.

Can't say for sure what the future holds, but I'm having fun for now. I sure do miss all the old friends I had though. Looks like they're all gone. Ironically, quite a few of those people were adamant about being with CoX forever as well, heh. Times change.

I definitely can confirm this. I transferred one alt from Exalted to Justice but forgot to pull the stuff I had listed/stored on the AH before I did so. So I was pretty surprised when I went to the AH after the transfer to list some salvage and found my old stuff sitting there waiting on me, including the Inf from previous sales.

It's probably my fault for biting off more than I can chew, or not really using the right tactics. XP debt feels like a slap in the face, taking such a significant portion of my XP away from me. I've mainly been playing a mind controller who's very fragile. His only hope of beating a boss in 1-on-1 combat requires me to render the boss impotent. If I fail, the boss typically kills me in 3-4 hits while I have virtually no recourse. It may take me three or four attempts to whittle him down, all the while earning significant XP debt that may take me fifty further mobs to wipe out. That's no fun.
Some of my alts die a lot until I figure out what combo of inspirations and powers work best against a mob, but I've played for a while, so that's pretty second nature for me. Now, speaking as a new player back in the day, yes, the debt was frustrating as all get out to me and I almost quit the game. But honestly, it doesn't last all that long. Most of it is perception. XP flows very fast in the game.

I can solo in other games from 1 to end game and never die because I know my class and I know my limitations. But in this game, some classes and powerset combos are not solo-friendly unless you really know how to min-max and use everything to your advantage. I don't even bother playing my Emp defender solo. I'm not that fond of dying.

My dark/dark Corrupter on the other hand, hovers over the mobs with impunity, EB's included, and just goes to town, draining life and End as needed to refuel.

Miss rate: I know that this game, like most other MMOs, has a lot of RNG underpinning it, and I know that a miss is entirely governed by that RNG. I know that there are enhancements and abilities to improve my chances of hitting, but this game seems to take misses to an uncomfortable extreme. I've had many cases where I've thrown 6-8 attacks at a similar level mob and seen as few as two of them land. This is immensely frustrating and frequently results in my death. It can include attacks made against a mob that's incapacitated, too. If my toon is supposed to be trained to physical perfection, or armed with the latest fool-proof technology, and he can miss an incapcitated target with three attacks in a row at melee range, it just feels wrong, and I feel like it happens far, far too often. It feels like the RNG is weighted too much toward misses, rather than me getting a few bad rolls.
As a fellow long time WoW'er, I do understand where you're coming from, but to be honest, I find myself missing quite a lot in the lower levels of that game as well. It's all RNG, period and very little gear has hit in the early levels. My rule of thumb in CoX when in the lower levels is to slot 2 ACC enhances into anything I consider absolutely necessary to hit as much as possible. Depending on my build and the innates of the powerset/class, I may keep 2 acc's all the way to 50.

Hospital runs: they make sense within the narrative of the game. But why not have a few more hospitals? If I'm locked in a death spiral, teleported back repeatedly to the only hospital in the zone, only to have to travel a mile and a half back to the mission spot, then run all the way back through the instance to the boss, it does nothing for my good mood. Even worse is the Dam region in southern Faultline, where the hospital is effectively in a different zone to the instance, meaning I have to fly back, transition through a door, navigate needlessly twisty corridors, then transition another door, then fly back to the mission, transition another door/loading screen, then run back to the boss and die again because of misses. I'm sure you can appreciate my frustration.
This one I will agree with you. I'm not high enough tier for any of the nice perks, so no rez temp powers for me. Use your rez Insp's and breakfrees if you can. If I know I'm going to die, I usually do my darndest to run away from the mobs so I'll be in the free and clear to rez in the instance. Plus my SG has a hospital and teleports to all zones. I can get back into play quickly, but understand you cannot do that.

The UI: within my gaming community, I'm well known for and teased about the number of UI mods I run. I love being able to tailor the UI to suit me, increasing or suppressing the information available to me, tweaking the layout or the elements visible to me or taking out the drudgery of certain operations (most hated WoW activity is probably milling herbs or prospecting ore - one click every three seconds until you run out of materials 20 minutes later. Guaranteed repetetive strain injury). CoH's UI has some glaring omissions, in my opinion, like the inability to resize the text in a name plate, or the lack of any indication whatsoever that you're out of range for your ability, other than a sound and a message on screen *after* you've tried it. Not to mention that the message text may not be anywhere near where I'm looking, so I may miss it entirely, and the notification sound may well be drowned out by the noise of battle. If we're not allowed to use third-party mods to make the UI work the way *we* want, then there should at least be a greater amount of flexibility in the stock UI than I believe CoH has.
I'm an addon junky, so I will agree here. I find myself frustrated daily that I cannot change things in the UI in a meaningful way, nor can I see what all my alts have in their inventories, etc.

Graphics: why is everything so dark? Why can't I focus on anything at long range? Why, when I have all of the settings at their highest quality, do so many objects pop into existence only when I'm almost on top of them? I appreciate that it's no trivial task to upgrade the graphics engine after the game's release, but boulders the size of the average house should not be semi-transparent when they're only a hundred yards away, and I should still be able to see skyscrapers in focus when they're a quarter of a mile off.
This game doesn't seem to have as far a view distance as I'm used to in others, but that might be related to some setting I haven't messed with. As for darkness? Villain side is very, very dark, even outside Halloween. Not sure if that could be part of your concern, but the daytime on Heroes is nice and bright outside of Halloween.

Running/autorunning: this may be a bug, I don't know, but when I'm running using the forward key, I often want to change to running using the two mouse buttons held down together. However, when I press the two buttons, then release the key, I stop running. This can be bad.
This is a frustration you and I both share. I'm used to switching very often back and forth between mouse movement and keyboard movement as I need to and find myself coming to a dead stop when I do so. I also am not overly fond of how pressing the forward movement keys for too long starts me on auto-run. I wish I knew how to shut that off. And I'm not talking about pressing R either. I'm talking about the default movement key.

Being locked into an animation: I hate to think of the number of times I've died because I couldn't run away, purely because I was stuck in a long animation that I couldn't override. So I get killed, and get un-fun XP debt because the game won't let me run away just at the time I most need to.
Agreed. This is perhaps one of the most frustrating parts of the game for me. I've never played a game that forces you to finish a cast or attack until this one. But then again, there are few bosses in this game that are scripted in such a way that you *must* dodge an incoming attack now or die immediately, ala fire patches, huge AoE's, etc.

    Quote:
Group combat: Again, I've not reached the level cap and have no experience of groups at high level, but at low level, this is unsatisfying. Every group scenario I have been in (excepting the one last night where most of the group quit immediately, leaving us with two people to face content scaled for 6) has turned into an anarchic free-for-all where everyone just mashes buttons at the nearest mob. I've never noticed anyone tanking, rarely noticed anyone specifically healing, and frequently been unable to see a reason why either a tank or a healer would be necessary. There are no tactics, no roles, no mechanics to learn or adapt to, no repercussions when you get it wrong. It's just a zerg to the boss and a pile of XP. If the encounters for L50 players require anything more complex than a zerg, then the previous 49 levels don't seem to have prepared you for them. Group combat just feels empty.
We will agree to disagree on this one. That's one reason why I love this game. There is no such thing as the holy trinity of healer, tanker and dps. You can take ANY combo of classes into anything, from the lowly newspaper mission, to the Statesman's TF, and complete it. It's all about skill and how well you use what classes you take. With a skilled buffer/debuffer, you'll never need much healing period, ditto for tanking. To me, that's part of the fun. No standing around the city hopelessly advertising for a tank for X activity and having the group fall apart because people got bored and left. Fill up the group and go.

That said, some of the level 50 content is very difficult if the players do as you're speaking of and refuse to listen. The higher level TF's do require coordination in many cases and can be downright impossible without it. (Incarnates toss a wrench into things, as do the IO sets to a smaller extent, so I'm just speaking to the average player with generic crafted IO's or SO's.)
  13. Well now, I was pretty sure the creators stated that they ended the show because they wanted to go out on a reasonably good note and they just didn't have much in the way of ideas to keep the show moving forward.

Ah well, I'd watch it anyway if we even got MTV here, but I'm not payin' for a channel I'd never watch for any other reason.
  14. Love the Halloween event, but I'm sure wishing for the sun back.

My old eyes aren't what they used to be and I'm catching myself leaning forward a lot to get a better look at the dark screen.

I'd be perfectly happy if they'd just make the day/night cycle match the real life cycle for the weeks of Halloween. That'd give players both day and night and they could choose which ambiance fits them best.

Another idea would be to gradually make the 'night' cycles last longer and long as the days of Halloween progress, culminating in full on dark for a couple or 3 days before Halloween until the end of the holiday. More of a creepy build up kinda thing.
  15. OP, some of the posters here did hit it very close to the mark. This game is unlike many others out there in that the 'loot elitism' mindset is not the norm.

Unlike other games, I've never, ever had someone come up and laugh at my alts because I didn't have X or Y costume piece gained by standing on my head, in Atlas Park at midnight, while the Devs summoned in a version of Hamidon wearing a top hat and tails who proceeded to offer all those attending mutating tea and scones.

Sure, there's prestige there... I think... (?) but in a year or two, not all people are even going to remember that a certain costume piece came from that long ago event, and new players don't have a clue period.

Earning an item is running a TF and selecting that as a reward, IMO.

Simple fact is, if you paid to attend the con, you paid for that exclusive item. You just paid a heck of a lot more.
  16. This is most likely due to the phasing that occurs within the Arc/missions where you have to take out the Arachnos that are planning take out Atlas, or parts of Atlas.

If you do the arc, you'll see a phased area of Arachnos pylons and soldiers around the warehouses, but before accepting the arc/after that arc is complete, that area phases back to normal with the usual Hellions/Vahz hanging about.

Phasing is heavily used for the last 2 expansions in.... another MMO I play, and I agree, it can be annoying when teaming. I hate having to say 'Sorry, wish I could help you with that quest, but I did it already so I'm phased and cannot even see you in the area anymore.'

The Devs need to seriously consider reworking the COX phasing system to add a 'Join your teammates current Phase?' system to avoid this problem.

A petition works just fine Gavin. My daughter had the same bug on her Widow and they granted her a Super Tailor session for each costume slot so she could change the character sex back to female as it should have been.

Don't spend money or points purchasing a feature to fix a bug that's not your fault. This is a known issue per the conversation my kiddo had with the GM, and it was supposed to be fixed in the last patch per the email she got, but still seems to be happening.
  18. I nearly spit my coffee out thinking about the NPC's cellphones. Thanks guys.

And Synapse is the Verizon guy. I can see it now, haha.

Back on topic, since Faathim has been shown to be able to contact Azuria, then yes, there's no reason he cannot also focus enough of his power, bound or not, to contact the TF leader.

One long-lived fantasy story hook is that imprisonments can, and often do, weaken over time, leaving little breaks in the armor so to speak. You can't tell me someone like Faathim hasn't spent years devoted to digging around at the magic binding him to find a weak spot. He'd be foolish not to at least try.

Make it a weak mental signal, make it disjointed images that flash through your mind, but just make us not have to fly across the SS over and over. Time is of the essence here, is it not. ^_^ Saving the world and all that jazz...

    edit: seriously... stupid word filter
  19. True enough about the magical imprisonment for Faathim. I'd completely forgotten about that.

Bah, I still recall how tedious it was to have to run back and forth, or stand and wait on someone else to do so between missions. Quality of life should trump lore in some cases as long as it's done in a believable and unobtrusive manner.
  20. I would think someone as powerful as Faathim could simply be keeping an 'open link' with you mentally, or some such thing. Given all the other fantastical stuff you see in the Shard... why not?

That IS what is happening. There are boatloads of folks trying to make their own farming arcs and failing miserably at it (or continue to have old un-usable farm arcs listed) that really are making it harder to find the well written stories. It is the principle reason that I don't really use the AE for anything anymore: unless I already know the name of a good arc, it is pretty difficult to find one when I feel like it.
I just started running AE arcs myself for a change of pace on my blaster and I did run into this issue myself. There were several Dev Choice arcs at the top and a couple or three 5-starred arcs. I ran those, then I found arc after arc with what sounded like an actual story arc name and they were 5 starred, but no other indication of what they were for. No description, nothing.

I just came back to the game and had zero clue these were farming arcs. I'm not against the farming thing, but honestly, I feel they need to be removed from the main story arcs and put in their own tab or some such. I don't think players should have to accept an arc to figure out what it is and there should be a way to filter them out right off the bat. That goes both ways. If someone wants to farm and wants to filter out the stories, more power to them.

One of the problems I saw was that quite a few of these farm arcs were listed in the 1-50 range, which means they appear to show up no matter what level range arc you search for and because farmers have uprated these so high, they're always at the top and you do have to sort through them somehow. Maybe that's working as intended? I don't know, but it's misleading if you're not familiar with the AE system. (Like me. )
  22. As a fellow player of the game mentioned, I'd love to have a place to view my alts and see what their builds are, etc. without having to log them in and out, but I sure do understand the problems with an armory system being unstable on the servers.
  23. Please, please let them use this, bug or not. We got someone from the other MMO we play to come to CoX to give it a shot and I'd really, super much like them to want to stay. They won't be so keen on it if we can't even communicate back and forth.
  24. Going to have to agree here. My poor lowbie blaster was constantly running on empty through the First Ward missions. They started out fun enough, but after the ambushes just kept on coming, health and end plummeted, and my inspirations disappeared, there was little I could do but just die and regroup.

I forget which mission it was, but I had multiple groups of mobs on me all the time. I couldn't even get one group down before the next one was on me. With a squishie character who has few options slotting/power wise, maybe still running training IO's, with minimal DO's, this is simply stressful.

I don't mind dying so much for the most part, but I did notice something that'd I'd never run across in this game before. Ambush mobs camping the mission door waiting for me after I got back from the Hosp. This might have been a bug and I didn't take note of the mission name/s, but it was -not- something I was expecting and after having already face-planted due to too many mobs, it was in no way amusing or fun.

One of the missions that really made me want to hurl my keyboard was the new mission involving Col. Duray and the blasted constant ambush spawning of Sky Raider Engineers with their awesome little bubble generators. *Swish swish* (and watch the End bar drop) over and over... so not fun. (Goes hand in hand with that quest where you have to destroy the Dirge of Chaos demon, who spawns in many little to-hit sapping ghosty pals to play with you. /cry )
  25. Concerning the Villain flip-side of Twinshot's arc, I did find myself wincing as my character was constantly forced into being a gullible idiot time and again by the dialog choices. Yes, they were funny dialogs, but maaaan... at least give me a couple of choices to click on that don't portray me as a loser.
