Quote:I think you make a compelling case, but I'd say you'd need a helluva lot more than 10 people - more on the lines of hundreds. After all, part of the reason is that apart from giving devs feedback, you'd want evangalists to go out and spread the word of the glories of the new system - that's why you absolutely wouldn't want it to be NDA beta - you'd want it closed, to keep the signal to noise ratio high, but that's it.Ehh I see both sides.
This system needs to go beyond just numbers. Which is something that I think Arcanaville is missing this time. But at the same time if there are a few folks (I'd say 10) who should be straight up told how the system works so they can properly test it during NDA CLOSED BETAs, I'd put her at number 5.
For full disclosure I wouldn't put myself anywhere on that list.
And yes, without a doubt someone like Arcana should be in that. However, you'd also want some fresh blood, because if it's true (as was said in the other thread) that most of the NDA testers wanted a participation system, then they aren't doing the devs any favors. -
Quote:Sorry but that stance is more absurd. She is human and can make mistakes (see her commentary on pvp numbers). At times she doesn't take into effect the human element, which is fine as a lot of numbers people don't.Sorry, but that stance is absurd. Arcanaville has proven time and time again to have a better grasp of game mechanics than most of the devs actually working on the game.
I work at a software company, and there are some customers we repeatedly include in secret early closed testing because they've proven to be extremely sophisticated and insightful. It doesn't mean we don't value our other customers, it just means that we acknowledge that not everyone has the same skill sets.
Treating everyone exactly the same sounds great until you actually want to get stuff done.
The fact that she's a board celebrity (and not entirely unjustified at that) doesn't make her a super-player. It makes her good with numbers.
That's a far cry from any justification that elevates any player above us mere peons and frankly, you should be embarassed to espouse that sentiment. -
Quote:There should be no situation of all players are equal, but some are more equal than others. Here's what I know reliably: the devs should have learned, from the intricate dance you did with Castle years ago, the one that resulted in you reverse-engineering the bugs in his combat-balancing spreadsheet sight unseen, that you are the one player they absolutely should show the exact participation formula to. You are uniquely qualified to debug it.
Ever.
Never ever ever. -
Better rewards experience or a transparent and equitable system of providing rewards to participants?
'cause I believe one of those is possible, the other I do not. -
Forgive me because I'm new, but what's a guild?
Also, speaking from experience, but most servers are up to delegates going to other servers and offering up their skills, especially if their claims are verified. -

Uh, I don't mean to overstep or anything, but even mentioning other games is against the rules, Mariel. If I could make a suggestion, it'd be to edit your post before someone else does.
(just trying to look out for you) -
Yeah, the reward metrics aside, I actually like the system. Although as someone with over 60 lvl 50s, I'm not thrilled about the Incarnate gating, I understand it and if you only want t3, the grind is not bad at all (and in most cases, the t4 gind isn't worth it to me).

I honestly wish it wasn't like this at all. On the plus side, at least it shows the devs don't hate pvp.

Quote:The participation reward system is easy to understand.
I had heard that the devs had said there was some kind of participation score involved. But I have been as involved as possible with my tank (my primary toon through the new material so far) and have gotten him all the tier 3's without seeing a single very rare.
You must spam as many of your powers as you can against as many different mobs as you can - you are in competition with others on your team, so you have to appear to have been doing more than the other members of your team.
That means aoe powers (amount of damage doesn't matter, just as many as you can that affect the mobs) and it means running around "tagging" as many different mobs as you can.
In a nutshell, if you have powers that aren't recharging, you're not trying hard enough.
Also, if you can, try to get on a team that's composed mostly of support toons (emps/bubblers) and ideally one's that actually want to use their powers to support their teamates and not pvp them.
Sadly, that's how you get better reward tables. -
I don't think this system affects us in the slightest.

Quote:This. Most of the team/tf forming goes on in our main global channels JFA2010 and Justice United I suggest you try joining the two channels so you can get a sense of what Justice is like.
The only channel less used than the help is arena chat. Do a /chan_join justice united and/or /chan_join jfa2010
Once you've sent a tell to a mod (or they notice you), you'll be unsilenced and free to ask/talk/pontificate away.
One thing I'll say (and I suspect this is true of all servers) - a new issue dropped last week, so 95% of the stuff advertised is the new content. If my number is wrong, it's low.
