No, see, there's a difference between a costume contest with a prize pool and one where people place bets on the outcome of an event. It would be like a costume contest but instead of the contest winner getting the prize pool, the audiance made bets on who the judges would choose and the people who choose correctly got the money.
Then, there's the big issue of the possibility of fixed matches, the house always wins, yada yada yada.
Betting is *not* like a costume contest. Now, a PvP tourney where the winner gets a prize pool, that should be fine. Actual placing of bets though bring a whole different set of issues to the table, though. -
Yeah, I always thought a betting system would be fun but as any villain will tell ya, the law takes the fun outa everything.
-
Now, I remember a few years back, World of Warcraft had a big stink over gambling. I don't remember the exact issue or what it all pertained too so you may want to look that up as to the reasons. I dunno if there were issues with internet gambling laws or what. Its something to keep an eye on before this actually happens. I don't want anyone getting in trouble over stuff like this.

And an image of the good Kevin Kane, The Emerald Sleuth
-
Well The Sleuth is a scrapper. MA/WP. When should I log in for these static groups?
-
The Emerald Sleuth: Slightly eccentric Detective Kevin Kane can't put his job down. Ever hour of Ever day he spends solving cases and putting together facts. he lives and breathes murder scenes and has criminal records for breakfast. He's got no powers but an unwavering dedication and a generous helping of OCD. When he's not in the office... he's in the office, the one he built in the basement of his apartment complex.
A Justice League Unlimited's The Question inspired character. he's a bit out there in terms of personalities and quirks but he's a brilliant detective and completely dedicated to the law. He just thinks its silly that they won't let him work 20 hour shifts and sleep in that free cell they have. he doesn't need that much sleep and that bed's fine to sleep on. Really. That's why he applied for a hero card. So he can beat up villains and investigate crimes in his free time. He doesn't like that term, either. Free is such an odd word.
A possible member? I sorta love this idea, myself. -
*waits for thursday to show up with his fancy paycheck that says 'gimme my copy of FF now kthnx'*
Yeah. I unfortunately have to wait for mine. At least work is holding a copy for me, though! -
Yeah. You found a troll. Nobody reasonable demands an apology multiple times. though the I'm 14 and disabled and hate this game really... there's such a small chance that that person was actually like that is... astronomically low.
really, who can hate this game? Who? -
And so the internets lived happily ever after. The End.

Quote:Yep. I think I said it before when I said "Hey, think I'm a jerk for finding this funny." So. I'll say it one more time. Pretty sure this makes me a jerk for finding this to be a humorous situation.Perpetually allocating a big chunk of mental and emotional energy for defensive stuff is a waste, in terms of the information exchanges possible between (in this case) folks gathered to play a game, and also morally stupid, in that it rewards bullying rather than make it seem like something to be ashamed of.
Though I stand by my belief that person who was ******** about the farming nerf really deserved their can of stfu. -
I suppose that I am a bad person for finding that situation funny. Really, who thought it was a good idea to have thin skin on teh internets?
-
You just have to wander into the rookery thread to get a dose of some of the greatest hugs on the internet, if not the best.
As for the friendly people and lack of teaming... I dunno why that is. I've found both good teams red and blue side. -
Anyone have any sorta idea what is all in the item pack?
-
Huzzah!
What? Yeah, I may be an American but g'darn it, Canada deserves the win. Plus they make me tasty affordable beer and I think that's enough reason to be happy. -
Quote:That's cause Guy is a massive ***** and, in their defense, It would have been a huge disruption if everyone shuttled out and dropped everything. In truth, we had enough folks out there kicking over banners that we didn't need to have all bajillion heroes pour out and stomp face. Sure, it woulda been fancy to see but getting everything put back in exactly the same order as when we left would have been hyper problematic, near impossible actually.
Now I can definitely see Guy Gardner saying that. Except for the "by golly" part.
In truth, I sorta like the idea that a handful of heroes basically said, "Don't worry guys. Just chill. We got this. You guys deserve a break." And then went out and stomped face and returned happily. Which is what my character did.
There's no need to divide the heroic community. We don't want a marvel Civil War event cropping up on our hands. Gods of the Golden Age forbid. *shivers at the thought* -
Quote:Okay so.
This one time (at band camp), I was writing an IPv6 software router from scratch, and I kept getting a segmentation fault for no apparent reason! After some digging around, it turned out to actually be a mislabeled bus error. It turned out that the implementation of GCC I was using on that specific processor on that specific operating system didn't properly pad one of my structs that I used to hold a network header, so the adjacent array holding the actual data wasn't starting at an address that was 4-bit aligned! I had to manually memcpy my actual payload over to a new array to make it align!
CRAZY TIMES, MAN.
(disclaimer: this was almost three years ago and I haven't written C since, so a few technical details may be off.)
I wanted to link a cool story bro pic but as I actually thought it was a cool story... bro... I felt it would be inappropriate.
But really, this. Bugs happen. They get fixed... mostly. Just happy to be seeing new content. or, the promise of. -
Oh Gosh, I will attempt* to attend this but as it is the day after my birthday... Well, ya know.
-
I agree. You just have to have people who want to see a story arc through to the end and have at least 1 person making sure things carry on. Really there needs to be somebody there to ask "My character picks up the piece of paper he finds. What does it say?" A 'DM' type player running things is a must in my book for long term story arcs. While I know there are other ways to play it and they do work, All of my successful arcs have had at least 1 person behind the scenes to ask about things. Someone in a storytelling role, even if one of their characters is directly involved.
Then again, there are plenty of 'story arcs' I just wrote out of my head who didn't involve any other characters except Joe NPC... but that's mostly from my personal belief that when I'm playing a comic characters, he deserves stories. I mean, Wolverine is in the X-men lines and his own title... and the Avengers... and every other comic series released by marvel. Ok, maybe he's a bad example. -
Same here. Just remember to be careful not to screw up somebody's page. Nobody likes having to rework things. Or... well, somebody probably does but I know I don't.
-
Ok, question that ya'll may be able to answer. I know they said with GR villains could become heroes and heroes become villains. Do they mean ones made *after* GR is released can become heroes or villains, depending on which alignment you start or can existing villains/heroes switch sides? Basically, I'm tying to decide if I should worry about making a stalker now and play through now and experience the villainy side of things or... just wait to level up my stalker as I won't want to level the same stalker twice.
-
I'm pretty happy with how the game went, if only for the simple fact that deciding to kick an onsides kick at the second half was friggin' ballsy.

-
Oh Gosh.
My best wishes to his family. This always is a terrible thing to hear about.
-
/e sighs as he continues his phone-y vigil.
Yeah. A big flashy red phone-o-doom would be nice... if... these dastardly fools would give me this call.
/e thinks
Though, a pamcake would be amazing as well.
