A consistent downward trend describes pretty much every subscription-based MMO that isn't WoW or EVE these days. Aion released on September 22 in the US, so Q4 was pretty much its only quarter here. Tough not to see significant gains from a starting point of zero, no? Looking at XFire numbers, I'd suspect to see a somewhat lower figure for even Aion in North America in Q1 2010, it is slipping, though slowly. Again, this is consistent for every subscription-based MMO that isn't WoW or EVE, even Star Trek Online is showing some decline already. It's a worrisome trend, really. If MMOs consistently slide down, with moderate bumps for major content releases and expansions, publishers might be wary of putting their money into future projects.

Honestly, even if you bought the Collector's Edition brand new, it was only US$50, If I recall. Pro rate that and it was about US$2 per month to get head starts on playing villains (back when it was Paragon that was the ghost town, not the Rogue Isles) and enjoying bases.

Quote:It's probably as many as any character would realistically be working on at a time, but you can definitely have more. It would take some work, but a level 40-45 Hero could have six normal Paragon City contacts, a Detective in Peregrine Island, whichever normal contact in the RWZ they are working on, Borea, Marcus Valerius, Senator Decimus Aquila, Daedalus, Five contacts in the Shadow Shard, The Pilgrim, Percy Winkley, whichever contact in the Invention tutorial that they have gotten to, and the same for any contact in the Architect tutorial that they might still have open. You'd pretty much have to make an effort to get that many open at once, but that's 21 total, and I might be missing something.Any number is as good as any other as long as it's more than 3
Plus, it's entirely possible that 7 is as many contacts as you can have going at once at any point in the game. It may also be a compromise to stop you having masses of outlevelled missions clogging up your tray later on
Edit: I was missing something, aside from contacts that are only available during events, DJ Zero, once unlocked, will stay with you and open until you run him out of your current allotment of Defeat Snaptooth missions. So make that up to 22 for the open contacts at 40-45 overachievers. -
There have always been issues of veteran rewards awarding too early or too late for some. The problem seems to have spread at some point in the past year, with a lot of new people reporting having issues with it that never did before. I've personally had to petition for my last two rewards.

Quote:Most stories of fallen heroes aren't really about complicated moral dilemmas. Most seem to happen because the hero gave in to one or more of the seven deadly sins. King Minos succumbed to greed, Superboy Prime to envy and wrath, and so on. A fall from grace is often just a manifestation of our own baser instincts getting the better of us.Actually, we've been trying, but you keep bringing up the fact that he's evil, because the devs say so. So, you win. He's evil.
The thing is, in order for a Hero's fall from grace to work, there has to be a morality play. A play like that must have ambiguity. Unfortunately, you can't be ambiguous if one side is clearly defined as evil. Without this play, the content of Pratoria and the side switching make no sense. In other words:
If Tyrant is evil, then Going Rogue fails.
Smurch: We don't have enough information to classify life in Praetoria as a Hobson's choice. We simply don't know how things would play out if Cole were removed from power. There will be a shift in power as a bunch of new superhumans, not directly under his control, from our dimension show up there. Additionally, we have no idea of the true threat that the "tamed" Hamidon would present now. He may not even be capable of rampaging again.
What we're presented with in Praetoria is a villain who, due to some combination of his own nature and the circumstances under which he came to power, decided to essentially kill John Locke in order to deify John Stuart Mill. Cole threw self-determination for the masses out to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. Even if the threat of Praetorian Hamidon has been reduced by his near-complete defeat decades ago, deposing Cole would still have some consequences. Revolutions, even popular ones, often leave things in a precarious state for a time. The survival of the United States was questionable for quite some time after the Treaty of Paris. There were threats from Britain, and possibly other European powers, and threats from within that could have torn apart the young nation. This is the dilemma that we face when choosing whether or not to stand against Cole. Will this world be better off by getting rid of this utilitarian regime that's been built and maintained at the cost of personal freedom for a future of uncertainty (perhaps even a very deadly uncertainty) that at least guarantees basic human rights? -

Edit: Looking at it now, I suspect that Ruin might be a false positive, being the shortest word on the list. -
Gender differences in badge names don't completely reverse the meaning of the title. Every Veteran badge has a name that is roughly analogous to Devoted, as that's what they're rewarding. Some of those synonyms are going to sound out of place on a villain, but a reward for devotion with a name like Underhanded would be the complete opposite of what the reward is for.
-
I meant for those AV/EBs that actually count for the badge. Those are all not timed, so if you just didn't want to bother cleaning up the rest of them in another defeat all or something, since it's all theoretical at this point.
-
It's a moot question, since the only timed mission featuring a Praetorian AV/EB is with Shadowhunter, and he, along with Mother Mayhem and Tyrant, doesn't count for Dimensional Warder. Badge-Hunter has a list for Dimensional Warder, and I've verified it to be true myself. Though, for mission drop purposes, I suppose you could go in, defeat the AV/EB, then leave and drop the mission for badge credit. I can't say that I understand why you would do that, but everyone has their own ways of playing.
-
Quote:Based on the description for this mission, the continuity seems to be that we investigate a signal first, then they come to Primal Earth. Those missions aren't given out in any specific order, but Tina should know the designation of Praetorian Earth if you had already done the Praetorian War arc.

The confusion between the two groups was only heightened by the choice to make the lone Contaminated in Recluse's Victory barf. Contaminated don't do that, but Infected do.

This is probably about the same efficiency these days, since Coldblooded was reduced. I'd guess that it takes about 8 runs, which is about the same as splitting up Coldblooded and Weed Whacker with optimal levels for each. It loses in efficiency for each of them, with only one of three possible Boss spawns counting for Weed Whacker, rather than two out of three in a 31-35 mission, and for only having Lieutenant Hordelings, but makes up for it in the crossover of Hellfrosts counting for both. I suppose it mostly depends on what level of villains you have available which you would choose.
-
15-24 is too high for good numbers of Hordelings. The best range is 8-13, as that's when they spawn at the most plentiful rank, Minions, and before their places get taken over by Spectrals. The ones that spawn in the range that you are set at are Lieutenants and Bosses, which explains the lower numbers.
-
I suppose that you could call it that. I mistyped in what you quoted, it was Issue 14 that didn't increment the build version number, not Issue 15. It wasn't so much a case of releasing out of cycle as it was a case of something that was "done" in the same version getting a bunch of new functionality, and being cleaved from Issue 13 for a later release, but called a new issue, anyway. If I'm correct about the old build numbers, Issue 6 wasn't out of order, but rather a pretty standard practice of restarting with a one for a project that had a fundamental overhaul.
-
I'm fairly positive that KaliMagdalene was the first to 10,000, and thus got to pick the title. It was a fairly tight race between her and Satanic_Hamster, who, if memory serves, claimed he would have had them call it Hamster Hamster Hamster!

Quote:Fair enough, but it would be a first for this game to discard a number, unless you count the jump from version 6 to version 11, which I always assumed was one one, rather than eleven, when City of Villains launched. Like you said, though, sometimes a version number doesn't get released with software, and we have had weirdness in builds in the past year, with Issue 15 not incrementing to a new version number when it came out.The existence of build 1800 does not prove the existence of build 1700.
At some point well over a year ago someone would have had to start reserving a build number for Going Rogue. Way back then they couldn't be sure if there was going to be a major release of features between Issue 16 and Going Rogue, so they preassigned 1800 to GR and reserved 1700 for any major feature release that might come before Going Rogue. If there was no release, the number would just be discarded. Happens all the time in software development when it comes time to fork a new build series.
I have no idea if there is going to be a release 1700 or not. I only know that Going Rogue is going to be 1800. Technically, I guess that qualifies as a Going Rogue leak. Fortunately, I don't think I was non-disclosed on that one.
I can also confirm that both Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning have nine powers. Take that, Marketing! Information wants to be free! "Pistols" is officially capitalized!
(Really, though, I still don't know much about Going Rogue - still haven't asked.) -
If that's so, and I have no reason to doubt you, given that you're Arcanaville
, that's two major builds out, meaning there should be an issue 17 before Going Rogue. Of course, they could be sneaky and make Issue 17 just be the common assets for everyone and call Going Rogue Build 1800.

The Supercomputer is unlocked by SKing someone, or several others under the SSK system, for five hours by the members of your SG while in SG Mode. It is not a craftable item, but available via the Place Item submenu from the Edit Base interface.
-
It's only one, perhaps two missions, I forget if the Family one is defeat all. Stephanie has three missions that take place on a ship, and those are the only ship maps that you ever see hero side. It's definitely annoying that at least one is defeat all, especially since it has patrols, but that's about 5-8% of the content there.
Quote:Agreed. Regarding casino maps...why can't heroes get any of the yellow caves? Or the CoV "nice" versions of offices? Mix those in.
As for the lab map, I liked what they did in making the Portal Corp version - it's pretty much the same thing, just in white. Of course you only see it what, one time (mission for Angus, I think)? Tint it something else besides blue just for kicks. Maybe use a few of the SG base skins. Use special skins like the Freakshow base and Lou's shop more than just once.
Oh, and if you are willing to put up with the endurance-fest that is Dr. Quaterfield, that Portal Corp. tech lab gets reused there. -
I never called anyone a noob, or said that they have no sense of tactics if they couldn't beat Snaptooth. It may be that you aren't really thinking about how to limit the risks inherent in the encounter. Nobody is forcing you to stand there when he dives down and respawns, or to fight the ambushes right there. You can move off and deal with them in parts. His damage isn't all that high for an Elite Boss, and that perception buff does essentially nothing, as I've never lost target on him, even while fighting him at full range on a Blaster or flying over him and raining down death on a Kheldian. If you're going to claim that he's so tough, you may not want to do so against someone who has fought him solo something like 400 times in total now. I know his capabilities intimately, and he just isn't that bad. Nosferatu is an overpowered EB, and yes, Frostfire is as well, Snaptooth is plain vanilla with a couple of twists that you can easily reduce into non-existence.
Wait, you can avoid Frostfire? Gee, I wish I wasn't forced into doing those Snaptooth missions. You can avoid it just as easily as Frostfire. Your dismissal of the comparison fails.
Funny thing is that the only thing that Scratch and Ganymede have going for their missions is co-op, and the RWZ and Cimerora put them to shame. Otherwise, those are run-of-the-mill yawnfests against the most overused enemies in the game, on some of the most repetitive maps there are. A kill all on a Council map for the 1st hero one? That's ridiculously bad. If anything, I'd rather see those revamped and leave the different kind of encounter that we have in Snaptooth alone.
Like yours, this is my case. There are people out there doing these missions all the way through both events, which is more than I can say for the newer parts added to the Winter Event. I say that this is a testament to their success, and that they are far from being in need of a complete tearing down. Something new in the last Winter Event meant something new to be ignored after the first week, yet people were forming teams to save Baby New Year right up until the end, which of these is the failure? -
Quote:The thing is, you say you want it gone because you're tired of it. Others aren't. Nobody should be asking for content to be removed just because they are personally burnt out on it, it's limiting other peoples' options, and that is selfish. By the same logic that you're using, Frostfire should just be pulled from the game. I mean everyone's done that until they can memorize the map, and he actually is overpowered, unlike Snaptooth, who, even in the Valentine mission can be easily beaten solo by anyone from their teens on with just a little tactical thought.I gave you my reasons. And IMPO, I don't think they are out of touch. If you don't like them, tough. I'm voicing how I feel about the event. After how many years now, of dealing with the same freakin' overpowered enemy, it's getting old. If someone doesn't like doing something, then it's an indication that it needs to be looked at. If people don't like doing say, the Quarterfield TF, then that's an indication that it needs to be looked at, rather than ignored with statements such as yours.
And they aren't giving an alternative, at least for the Valentine's Event, it's Snaptooth or nothing. IF there were an alternative, his continuing presence would be marginally acceptable.
If your character can't make the money with that character, have a higher level character with more inf buy them for you, use an intermediary (or SG base) to transfer it to the lower level character, buy as necessary.
The Winter Event & Halloween Event have at least gotten updates. What real update has Valentine's Event gotten, because I can't recall anything ATM.
Edit - People should be looking forward to events, not saying, "Him again? Call me after it's over". Sure, for people who've never dealt with him before, it's something, but lets face it. Until GR comes out, we've got an aging, relatively stable playerbase. The majority of which, I'm guessing, have seen Snappie at least once before. And if we saw Going Rogue actually Going Live before the end of summer, I would be O.O suprised.
Most people in here that are blase about this event are saying that it's because there's nothing new to do. That's not a specific complaint about what there is to do being bad, just that it is the same thing again. I actually find both to be interesting missions in their own rights. Both use unique maps, have something to do other than just find target and make it dead, and feature a Boss that doesn't rely on abundant status effects or the dreaded purple triangles to constitute a challenge.
All that said, I would love to see a Candy Keeper type of system for the Valentine Event, just to make it so that you, and anyone else who holds the Snaptooth mission in such low regard, have an alternative. I would also encourage the developers to come up with 3 or 4 other missions for Winter and Valentine's, given in a specific order to avoid the problems with random assignment that can give you 3 Council missions from the Newspaper as your only choices, with only the first being Snaptooth (because of the Toothbreaker badge, which I doubt would ever be put into any kind of buy list for badges) to avoid the tedium of the same thing over and over. As many different themed missions as there are rewards to get from them should be the standard for events. As a sidenote, I'd also be in favor of making Toothbreaker award for a single, or perhaps double, since you would still face him by doing the one mission that he was in in both events, defeat, again, to lessen the tedium of it.
There's room for improvement through addition here. The Pyrrhic choice of just getting rid of something because some don't like it or are bored with it would be both an overreaction and a mistake.
