I was under the impression they were of the "pain in the ****" origin. Seriously, the first time I faced Carnies was with my /regen scrapper that I mostly soloed. No big problem. Then I faced them on a small team of squishies.... we got served.

Heres to hoping that you can come back. Best of luck to you with your health!
It's usually pretty obvious from the context what is intended. I'm under the fundamental assumption that you're not really going to go out and look for some Skulls to kill.
I guess it depends on how seriously one takes being a hero -
Quote:What about toons from 36-50? There is a chance also that players at launch played a few toons to 50 and canceled never to return. I guess there is only one way to find out.I would bet that most of the names people are clamoring for are taken by active players. It's what the devs found when they did the "every inactive character below level 35" purge, after all.
Why is everyone so against a name purge? Would it affect anyone that posts here negatively? Clearly you all have active accounts, would it be so injust to purge the names of accounts that have been inactive for years? -
Quote:Invoked the devs? im at a loss here. I asked if you were a dev because you said "We" purged the names. Thus my post. You act like I'm trying to name drop. No, but you suggested it to us. So one of us responded.
Then you tried to invoke the Devs, changing the rules on us.
Seriuosly, my response was (quite clearly) a hypothetical. It was also, incidentally, on-point: people who suggest a name purge think it means they'll get the names they want, but the Dev's previous experience indicated the purge wasn't as useful as they had thought. And to the degree that it IS used, it might be used by someone else to get the names you covet, leaving you just as frustrated.
In the meantime, names like Sky God are still available on popular servers after nearly 6 years of flying Storm and Lightning characters. It's not as hard as people make it out to be.
The devs did a purge a while back. It freed up very few names due to the levels it affected. What I am suggesting is a total purge of any toon 1-50 for accounts inactive for 4+ years. Basically what I am getting to is, at what point do they give up on accounts that have been gone for years? If getting a name that someone has wanted for a long time keeps an active account active, then I'm all for it. Sometimes its the little things that keep you interested.
As far as these names you assume "I" want... I have most of the names I want, have for years. It would be nice to see newer players get something closer to the name they have in mind so they can make the hero/villan they envisioned. The game can mean many things to many people, but some people (myself included) dont want a toon without a concept behind them and name can be a huge part of that. Just adding my thoughts to the discussion, no need to make this a battle Sailboat.
I read somewhere that a poll was taken at HeroCon about possible name purges and the terrible global name idea, any truth to that anyone know? -
-
Quote:So you purged the names personally? Wow I wish I had that power...Was your suggestion PMed to a Dev? Or was it posted in a public forum?
They can purge all they want under a certain level to no avail. I would bet that most of the names people are clamoring for are taken by former players that took the names at launch played for a bit and canceled never to return.
FYI, yes I have PMed the idea to a dev. -
Quote:We? Are you a dev?We did. The names were purged last Tuesday at noon. By Wednesday all the ones you wanted were already taken again.
Well, maybe not, but if there was a name purge, odds are good that the name you covet gets grabbed by someone else at that point and you'll be waiting another 5 years for it.
Lets face it folks, if someone has been gone for 4 years, they are not coming back. Purge all of their names.
Do I have trouble getting names? No. I have most of the ones I wanted and have for years. How great is it for a new player to pick up the game log in and not be able to get anywhere close to the name they had envisioned for their toon? Lets face it, some people just arent that imaginitive, and there is nothing wrong with that. Do we not want new people to play this great game and keep it going strong? -
Quote:What LL you expect someone to use their imagination? Next you will tell me to think outside the box!! MadnessHere's my question for this thread, since you never actually asked one (rhetorical questions don't count).
Have you looked at the pieces from the booster pack?
In my estimation, if you had, and had given it a little thought, you would have seen just how easy it is to apply most of the new pieces to other origins and types of hero, and have them look fantastic. They mix incredibly well with older pieces and let you do a lot of things better than you could before.
I have a robot for whom the gloves and boots look incredible when matched with a Tech skin. Sonic Vision goggles look like great robotic eyes.
I have several magic users for whom the detailed versions of the Terra and Warrior robes look very arcane.
I have several weapon users for whom the armor pieces look great as an alternative to the ones we have.
I have a character who is a Lobster creature for whom the new helmet looks closer to the armored plating of a real lobster than anything we had before.
So yeah, I'm telling you if you're just going by the name of the pack and the pictures used in the advertisement, you are plain, flat out, completely wrong. -
Most of the classic names that people are looking for are tied up by accounts that were created at launch or soon after most likely. I think that anyone's account that has been inactive for 5 years should lose their toon names regardless of level. At 4 years it should be any toon 35 or lower. Set a tiered system. If people do not want to lose the names of their toons they should keep their account active, plain and simple. When I used to play EQ if an account was inactive for more than 6 months their characters got wiped. This would be less heavy handed and fair to all.

Love the Booster Packs!!! Keep em coming devs!!
-
Just curious, when did they do the under level 36 name purge?
-
So is Going Rogue considered an issue number (ie i17, i18)? I had a friend tell me it was considered issue 18 which would mean there is another issue coming out before it? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Anyone who thinks that CO and DCUO will not have a significant effect on the # of subscribers to this game does not understand economics. Im not trying to get into a COHvsCOvsDCUO and which one is going to be better(because no one knows definitively). Just pointing out that people will leave this game and after COH being around for 5 years chances are it will be in greater numbers than new subscribers are coming in. Its all about the product life cycle.

It's just as easy to give FIre Mastery to Brutes, AND it increases equality between sides.
It's one game, but two sides and both sides should be treated fairly.
[/ QUOTE ]
I never understood this thinking. No matter how much work the devs put into "balancing" the sides, people will see them as not equal. Furthermore, why do they need to be equal? The devs maket the rules in this game and they will see fit to add and subtract when and where they want. If anything Posi's latest post sums that up nicely. -

No they don't.

You are wrong!! Yes they do!! -
You know what I want to transfer? My real self into Paragon City. I would need to have powers though. I dont want to be one of those citizens cowering in the middle of a gang of Skuls.

No matter when maintenance takes place it is going to interrupt someones play time. It has to happen or bugs will not get fixed. Such is life.

QR- Apart from Jay's response (which i disagree with by the way) the standard response I have seen on this is that its too much work, much like many suggestions that are shot down.
As an aside I wonder what would happen at my job if I told the customers that I cannot do what they ask because its "too much work"? -

Sorry guys I could care less about the MA so this issue so far holds no interest for me.

Could you care less about proper phrasing?

Oh dear I made a typo.
It must be cool to have never done that.

Correct, just like all the people that had to post to say how awesome it was.
