I was going to sell out. But I couldn't find a buyer.

Quote:It might also be noted that claws is a healing set. No, really. So is assault rifle. This may sound odd, but as has been pointed out what you are actually doing is using the weapon for most abilities as a focus for magic powers. In fact it's your undeveloped potential for powerful magic that causes the secret societies' initial interest in you.Fist weapons in TSW are claws. You don't fight unarmed - every skill has an associated weapon type.
Note: Claws is also a dps set. All of the sets can be built for dps. That's where the tier 2 abilities really come into play. It's when you start getting into those that the set can be built more for dps or it's other role.
The non-dps roles for the weapons are as follows"
Healing: Blood Magic, Claws, Assault Rifle
Tanking: Blades, Hammers, Chaos Magic
Support: Pistols, Shotguns, Elemental Magic
Another Note: You can (and should) have two weapons equipped. Even if for some reason you only want to actively use one of them the other can improve your statistics.
Here's an article that discusses the different weapons and the synergies between them:

Arcadia is also the official RP dimension. Note: dimension is not the same thing as server. TSW is on a single server and you can freely group with players from other dimensions (except for some pvp areas.) You can also group with other factions except for pvp or faction specific quests.

Quote:My video card was also flagged as not recommended but it's been running quite smoothly. And if you're not sure if your computer can handle it you can always download it for the three day trial and see how it works.
By the way, ignore what the "system analyzer" says about your system. I have an NVidia GTX 460 video card, which it claims can't run it, but it runs beautifully and smoothly at High settings all around. But at the same time, if you do have an NVidia card, you might want to roll back from the very latest drivers (the ones released a few days ago), since they don't seem to work well with the game at all. -

Quote:The name Inquisitor was already taken by some jerk for TSW. And I've just been stuck with Mr_Morbid as a forum name since late beta. I suppose I could have asked for a change, but some jerk probably already has Inquisitor as a forum handle. How many different names do you go by? Just what exactly are you hiding from?
I had to look this up the other day because it keeps getting tossed around and I had never heard of it before. It seemed too story-driven for my tastes as it didn't seem like something you can jump in to whenever you got some free time and just do something? *shrug*
There are a couple of other things that kind of put me off this game in particular, but those are more for my situation/play time/play style.
It is possible to jump in for a bit as missions are typically multi-part and most (non-group) Play is open world instead of instanced. There are some solo-instances as part of missions but those are (from what I've seen) mostly puzzles instead of anything you might need teammates for. However, I wouldn't say it's really designed to be played in short bits. The flow of missions is such that it's easy to lose track of time. -
There's plenty to do solo, though getting top end gear is gonna require some dungeon running in a group. I haven't done any pvping yet (seeing as how I'd probably get eaten alive with my current skill levels) but high quality gear can also be earned that way.

A Secret World that is.
Playing CoH lately just depresses me, I just can't get motivated to work on characters that are most likely going to disappear before long. So I've been having a go at The Secret World and enjoying the hell out of it. If by some miracle CoH survives I'll be thrilled and back in, but I expect I'll maintain a sub to TSW anyway.
If anyone else wants to check it out there's a three day trial available on the main site:
http://www.thesecretworld.com
From a CoH perspective, here are some things I'd like to point out:
1. The game is rated M and for good reason. In addition to the obvious nastiness associated with it's monsters the game has a fair bit of sexually suggestive content as well as rough language. I've met several NPCs that swear like one-eyed carpenters, and it's all in full sound. So this isn't a game to play with the kids.
2. The game is VERY story driven. NPCs are fully done with voice actors and there are lots of cutscenes. The voicing and cutscenes are both very well done, but if you want to be able to advance by grinding this isn't the game for you.
3. Largely as a result of point 2, the game is NOT alt-friendly. However, any single character can eventually acquire all the skills and abilities in the game. So you can have a solo build, a pvp build, a tank build, a heal build, and a pure dps build all on one character.
4. The worst things I've found with it so far is character creation. After years of CoH, TSW's character creation process seems absolutely anemic. There is no body scaling, so all PC's of either gender are the same size. Facial feature selection is okay, but hairstyles are pretty limited (an issue discussed on the forums is a lack of 'black' hairstyles such as afros.)
Clothing choices are limited at the start as well, but more outfits can be purchased either through in-game vendors or the cash shop. Visible clothing also has no effect on character performance.
5. Uh, I'll think of some more things later probably.
If you decide to give the game a try you can contact me as Gray-Area. I'm with The Dragon faction on the Cerberus dimension. Note: dimension is not the same thing as server. There is actually a single server and grouping across dimensions is fully supported. Home dimension is only a restriction on some pvp areas. -

Except in this case. Go try it out!
(You can totally trust the Illuminati though. Have your spine weaponized today.)

PS A three day free trial is available for the game. You can't get very far in that amount of time, but you can get a pretty good feel on the basics. -

Quote:Er, that message doesn't promise you a refund at all. "The compensation package for City of Heroes has not yet been finalized" is a pretty clear statement. And this is a reply to a ticket you submitted, not a general mailing.Hello xxxxxx,
I apologize for the delay in our response; we have an unusually high ticket volume which we are working through as quickly as possible.
Your ticket has been escalated to me as a supervisor for NCsoft Account Support. Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the recent announcement that City of Heroes will soon be discontinued. For fans of the game, including myself, this of course was not news that was well received.
Regarding your request for compensation, what I would like for you to do is keep this reply as a record of our conversation. Typically, when a game has run its full course and the decision has been made to end services and support for the game, a compensation package is rolled out to all those players who qualify or have remaining paid game time, point, or currency balances left on their game account. In the past, these packages have been very generous and have sometimes included complementary copies of other NCsoft games, depending on how much time or currency was left on the account in question.
Since the compensation package for City of Heroes has not yet been finalized, and I do not yet have authorization of offer compensation for the closure of City of Heroes, I would very much like for you to wait to see what the official offer will include. If what is offered is not up to your satisfaction, please reply to this message and we can address your request at that time.
Of course, if you have any questions in the mean time, please let me know and I'll be happy to address your questions to the best of my ability.
Thanks, -

I can't make it due to a scheduling conflict. Specifically, new Doctor Who.

That's right friends, I have uncovered the REAL reason CoH is being shut down. And here it is:
At this point you're probably thinking, "Hey stupid, how the hell could Family Guy Online (currently in open beta) possibly effect NCSoft's decision to shut down CoH?" Well, I'm about to tell you!
Family Guy is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island.
CoH is set in the fictional city of Paragon City, Rhode Island.
Do you see now? Both games are set in Rhode Island!
On hearing about the emminent release of Family Guy Online NCSoft executives took a look at a map of the USA and saw just how small Rhode Island is. They quickly concluded that the MMO market could not possibly support two games set there. Knowing that FGO was an inevitable juggernaut of a game they decided then and there to pull out of the Rhode Island market before CoH was utterly crushed under the feet of Seth MacFarlane's behemoth IP.
Now you know the REAL reason, so spread the word. Perhaps Matt "Positron" Miller could agree to retcon CoH and place Paragon City in Maryland. Then NCSoft wouldn't be so threatened by the upcoming Goliath of a game.

oh wait, you list Cleveland as your location? Nevermind. You can't possibly have anything I'd want.
Edit: And technically I don't live there anyway. I live in the unincorporated area nearby. -
Not all of it, but some.
I will give a billion inf to whoever gives the best reason in this thread why they need/deserve my stuff. The contest will close whenever I feel like it (it's my contest and I can close it when I want to.)

Masque is ineligible to win cause he already has too much stuff.
Entries featuring my little pony images will be excluded from consideration.
