  1. I think these are my favourite posts!
'Someone' [OP] is mad about the price that *other players* are *paying* for things. They blame the seller and not the buyer. awesome!

After having played this game for a whopping 5 months, I have received; 3 purple drops (one 'very good' one), a respec drop, and a Numina's (from a random roll). I have built 2 LoTG recharges, 1 Miracle, 1 Numina's proc from merits. 5 months. Im still a 'newb'. I also market because its fun, and FUNNY! (I love buying salvage for 1500, and selling minutes later for 100,000, it makes me laugh, try it sometime!)

Here is a question to you ... what would happen if you got lucky and landed a nice purple proc? What happens if you get that one you are looking for?

I have a feeling you would simply create the IO and slot it in your own character. Why??? why would you do that?!? you complain about the price, but if you get one you wont sell it!!? if it is priced so high then you should be looking for purple drops TO SELL and not to slot!

I think you won't sell it because you are greedy. I think you won't sell that Purple proc because its *WORTH MORE* than 200M inf ... *TO YOU*!!

These ebill's are not greedy. They will sell you those purples, they will sell you a miracle, they will sell you their characters costume if you pay enough. Greedy? No, they want you to have fun, and that is why they post the purples they get and dont just keep them. They put up the purple, or the respec and help you enjoy the game more. If all the purples are selling for 200M, then if you get a drop you might be able to 'trade' it for the one you want. Good deal if you ask me.

And a respec recipe?!?! are you seriously complaining about the price of something that is pretty much free? The price of a respec is the bigest joke on the market if you ask me.

Oh and that fantastic purple I picked up "Hecatomb", I sold. Yes, I had planned to use it my own character, but someone paid 150M for it!! LOL! can you believe it?! I decided it was better to have full sets of rares AND uncommons than that one IO .. but hey that just me.

Oh .. and if you happen to see a recipe you want on the market, dont look at the price, just be thankful someone out there is willing to even SELL the proc you are looking for.

Human form is the most fun, not only because it is my costume, but more-so because it is the powers I have picked and the character I have built. A form is someone else's power selection and costume.

This would be a fair comparison if the said Toggle power on a tank or scrapper took away all their other powers and assigned them a limited subset of powers, which they had to slot to be effective when thier toggle was on. Oh, and it would also change thier character visually into something completely different. Then that would be a fair comparison. I have a feeling the tank and scrapper community would have something to say about that!

In regards to my suggestion of a small dose of mez protection:

This is an excellent sign! This means that a small adjustment of this nature may not impact the many people who play in Dwarf form. I have a feeling that a LOT of people would be happy to hear they could spend time in their cool costume, AND use the powers *they* were allowed to choose. Imbalancing? Obviously not if experienced players say this would not change the way they play.

Regardless, I have a high degree of confidence in the developers and designers of this game. Although, personally, I feel this sort of thing would not be game changing, I am sure the devs have worked hard on making the ATs balanced and fun. They are doing a great job in my books!

Dwarf form is not my idea, its the dev's idea. I like to have a concept for characters, perhaps a background story, this is what makes the game fun, for me and MANY MANY others. I also spent a good amount of time designing a costume, and maybe several other costumes as well! A person designing for effect is either wanting to solo AV's, PvPing, or wants to show off on a team. A person designing for concept is enjoying the game ... until they risk using some of thier attacks on an enemy that can hold. Then they say "why did I bother picking ANY powers at all? I should just take Dwarf, fully slot it, and screw the costumes."

Or they put up a post like this!

Out of curiosity, has *anyone* on these boards with a Kheld attempted to use Acrobatics in human form to avoid holds?

I admit that it's a better adventure with SGmates or people you know but still, the biggest challenge hero-side
I have to agree. I was on one the other night with a team of 8, 6 were 10-12, 1 was 14, the other 17. Plenty of deaths, but what a level fest. Battles were challenging, but I find Positrons to be one of the best Task Forces. I think you really get to see a character develop, and when you near the end and are lvl 15, those groups that made you cringe at the start are now 'not so bad'.

I really like when people are leveling on the TFs, especially that one. I find it great to see the teammates who started off dying all the time, and missing lots to having powers hit, and showing off new powers they have picked up during. (not as much fun as Synapse where people generally pick all 3 powers from the fitness pool, and really dont seem to add much flash or pizzaz to the team)

I have a blast on a Positron, and if I have the time I will almost always join one starting. I find that TF a great way to meet people and develop some comradery due to the difficulty.
  6. Well personally I would be all for a 'limited' mez protection. To me a PeaceBringer is a very unique AT, that seems to 'potentially' fill some holes in a team. The Dwarf form is obviously a 'tank' type, considering it comes with Taunt. The Nova, a 'blaster', and the Human appears to border on Scrapper / Defender. Now a Defender does not have mez protection, but a scrapper does. I would think a 'weaker' mez protection in Human would not hurt, perhaps .. 3 points combined with 1 natural would total 4. If most holds are 3 points then a human PB could withstand 1 hold solo. On a team with 2 controllers 2 holds. Its no scrapper! It seems like a PB is an 'almost' many things, but with no mez protection at all, it is a FAR stretch from being a scrapper. I have seen several PB builds that skip Thermal Shield, perhaps a small dose of Mez protection in there would encourage people to take the power and use it.

After building a Tri Form and taking it to level 45, I found in the higher levels I simply did not use Nova Form at all, and rarely Dwarf. Human form puts out the damage in a big way, and allows you to use all of your powers as opposed to a 'half a tank', or 'half a blaster'. Soloing, I have had to switch to Dwarf to save my own butt, usually this was due to a mez, and since I have dumped Dwarf this has become a sore spot.

(oh and before I get lambasted for saying "half a", please remember that your powers in those forms have been selected for you, and while in form you do not have access to the full array of powers as opposed to a blaster/tank that has a full arsenal at their disposal.)

All in all if there is no solution to the mez issue perhaps Acrobatics is for me. If not for the out and out protection, then for the 54% (or so) hold resistance. I think if I can combine this with an Aegis unique, and perhaps a couple/few status resists/hold resists from sets or IOs I might be able to recover from a hold in time to blast that mezzer into next week.

    Thoughts?

Shadow Maul is not difficult to line up to consistently hit 2 or 3 targets, making it one of the best damage per endurance powers in the set if you get good at it. Burn is technically not a Location AoE, there's no targeting reticle to move around, Burn drops the patch directly at your feet every time, no aiming required.
    - I have been practicing with a cone lately and have been getting better at it. Now, Shadow Maul with a 3 second activation leaves plenty of time for nasties to leave that Cone area. Does Shadow Maul deal damage to all nasties in the cone at time of activation, regardless if they leave the cone while it is activating?

    - Burn, at my feet everytime huh? Well that does not sound too bad at all. I seem to have clicking issues with Location AoEs

Here is the next question ... Defense Debuff Resistance?
  8. Hi, Great to see a thread on this as I have just rolled up a DM/Fire scrapper. I noticed that there is not much in the way of defense for this resistance based scrapper, so I have added combat jump, and weave to help in that arena. I also notice that the self heal does not include a boost to base HP like Dull Pain. I have tried to slot a few sets that will boost this also.

I do have questions. It seems like the end generating powers are AoEs, Generally these do not seem to work as well on single targets. I have slotted 2 endmod set IOs in Dark Consumption, for both the boost to HP, and boost to end on use. My first question, will Dark Consumption/Consume be viable to get end from a single target?

I have also slotted my aura with a full set of Obit. I have read the proc does not work as well, perhaps there is another suggestion for slotting that power? or other of my powers?

I have not taken Shadow Maul (thought to take the Aura over the Cone), and I did not take Burn (have a heck of a time with Location AoEs). These powers did not appear to be 'that great', but then again what do I know!? (3second cast time on Maul was not appealing!).

  9. Is there anyway to stop/prevent hold and stun effects when in human form? The only power I can see that offers me hold protection is Acrobatics. I have not taken this power before, and am not so sure about it.

Has anyone had experience with Acrobatics, on a PB or non-PB? I am not sure if the -2 hold protection is any good. Redtomax says Acrobatics has something like a ~54.5% hold resist. Will this reduce the duration of any hold of greater than Mag 2?

Is this a power worth taking? (I have Combat Jump, so acrobatics is another two powers! ug)

  12. I would like an invite to this channel Please and Thank You!

    @Gord Thompson

Oh .. and thanks for making Liberty fun LBx! I have told several friends about the activity, and great people on this server. I have got one to 'almost' switch, and have recruited (to the game) another person, maybe two who will be joining us on Liberty! yay

Unfortunately I have told my friend that LBx is full and we are moving to a new channel. I hope that I am going to see the same great people and maybe a few new ones there.

Hope you have a great day Liberty!
  13. What a team we had together! I wish there were more 'defeat all's' in there, blowing those spawns to kingdom come was a an abdolute blast! My PB was sitting with +60% dmg, +30% resist, and a dose of mez protection to boot! A great team for me needless to say.

Thanks for running that last night, it was a real romp!
  14. Well .. I have just made a new defender and after reading this post I am about to delete him. I think I knew Vigilance was completely useless.

Maybe I should skip this whole defender thing. Getting some buffs early to run a Posi or Synapse .. big deal. I have a feeling a controller past level 35 is going to do pretty much EXACTLY the same things I am, only better. People complain about Posi endlessly anyway.

and Vigilance ... I was a bit confused at this power. I only get the benefit if my team is getting clobbered? Then I .... fire more attacks that do (quote from above) 0.6 dmg??? My attacks are less than a blaster, and I guess with the containment thing it sounds like controllers are going to do more damage?! a controller .. more damage than a defender, are you kidding me!?!

If defender is a support AT, how come a Peacebringer gets benefits for being on a team and a defender doesn't?!

  16. Comments from a non-AE noob ...

Hey there, boiught this game about 5 months ago, shortly after AE was put in the game. I tried it out [AE] but got burned too many times. Poor leadership, poor team dynamics, you name it. The 'farms' or whatever seem rather boring, and some friends wanted levels so they would run them over and over, boring. It seems people just want to 'power level' or something in AE. Sure, go for it. Personally I find a reasonably well put together team doing regular story arcs will net some great xp, and the chances of getting teamed with better players goes WAY up.

As you can tell my experience in AE has not been too positive. As far as defenders go my opinion is formed from joining task forces, or being invited to mission teams.

As a new player I did not know what to expect out of a defender being on the team. From my limited experience I have found that a defender will quite simply 'make a team better'. When I see a defender join the team I think of it as sort of a surprise in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box. I usually think Defenders are going to 'do something for me'. This means they will stun/sleep/disorient/slow the enemy, kill the enemy, debuff the enemy, maybe have a sheild for me, maybe have a heal.

Sure getting healed is great, but as I said to a friend of mine 'healing is only good if you have taken damage'. I feel pretty invulnerable with I have one of those buffs on! (Dont need a heal if you hardly take damage). I dont care if a defender (or any other AT for that matter) does not take a power to buff me. Just because you picked a defender/whatever does not mean you *have* to take certain powers. There are plenty of tanks that don't take taunt.

I have been on teams where the lead has said "we need a ..." Sure a balanced team is great, I have lots of fun on teams where things are balanced, but *need* not only a specific AT, but a specific *POWERSET*?? IMO, If you feel you always "need a", make you should "make a"...

I have just made a defender, my first one! I had a grav/kin troller and loved the /kin thing, so I made up a kin/ defender as I am familiar with the powerset. Also I saw a kin/ defender on this Task Force, and wow, he blew me away. I had to make one! So I picked a kin/sonic .. my question for you ... am I a healer????

Originally Posted by hilker View Post

This is partially true IMO. Early on it takes a bit of getting used to, and sometimes you have to use range and position to your advantage.

Consider your blaster and scrapper! That AoE immobilize should let them line up THEIR AoEs for best effect, and they can dish it out! If you have a tank with you things will change a bit, and you should not have to worry *as much* about agro, you will, but not as much.

I see a huge benefit to an AoE at level 8. Quite simply, I believe Crushing Field is far better than Swift, and thus I give it priority.

My favorite memory of using Crushing Field was shortly after joining a team in mission. We came up to the first mob and the scrapper ran in (I believe we were short a tank). I fired off Crushing Field, and the rest of the group sort of stood there. The scrapper on the team pipes up "Its a lot easier when they don't move".
  18. I also have a shield tank /War Mace and am struggling with it. It looks like the guides are down, so I do not really have a reference to look up and read about. *sigh*

I am find myself a *bit* on the squishy side, and was struggling with a 7 person spawn at level 17. I am assuming the shield defense is likely a late bloomer, so I am going to have to struggle through a bit of tough times before I come into my own.

I am also having trouble managing agro. I am new to MMOGs and this agro concept is also new to me. I had to take taunt at level 10 as the agro was completely out of my control, I dont know how tanks can go without taunt, especially at a low level.

Do I need to be a bit more cautious with this powerset (Shield)?
  19. I read this board and have been interested in rolling up a new controller. It seems with the forum switch the guides have lost their links

I picked Earth for my primary as I was on a TF recently with one, and the visuals and sound effects were great! I am loving the sound effects on my own PC as it sounds like the constant rumbling of the earth. Seems like a very fun set. (Any advice?)

Rad? Wow. Like really, wow. My last troller was a /kin and I thought that was something, but this Rad appears to be fantastic. I am really looking forward to picking up some uniques for slotting. Could you fellow Rads tell me about slotting a Regen Tissue in Radiant Aura? What about a Miracle? Is this going to effect myself and the party??
  20. I think you need to take Crushing Field as early as possible. Why not switch out Swift, and use 16-18-20 for swift / health / stamina. I think you will get FAR more use out of crushing field at 8 than you will at 18.
  21. This is interesting, I had thought a proc would only activate if it was in a power that was turned on, with the exception being Auto powers which are always on. Is this incorrect?

The proc will "re-roll" the 'chance for' every 10 seconds when in form?!? That is not so bad at all!
  22. Thank you for the replies!

Theft of Essence! What a great idea for Dark Regen! I have had some luck in the markets and could possibly pick up a unique or two. Not sure of the availability of the low level uniques, they are probably a bit rare on the market. I will probably have to work on getting merits to purchase a couple.

I am feeling much more confident about my build. I think I will take hasten/superspeed, and hunt for a lvl15 stealth proc, I should be able to use the ss + stealth to do any 'solo-able' parts of a TF. I thought I would take recall friend at lvl24, as I can not think of a good way to sub this in pre-level 15, and not take the teleport movement power (which I am not such a fan of). Any ideas?? Can I swap Parry (8) for Recall Friend (24) or will I hate myself on pre-lvl24 TFs?

I really appreciate the posts, thanks for replying! If you want to have a look at my build, slotted only up to level 20. I put in 3 nice uniques that are a bit critical (Theft of Essence, Miracle, and Celerity).

I am going to have a look at your guide Desmodos, thanks for pointing it out.
  23. I dont know why anyone would NOT take Nova form!? I was recently on a Positron TF, we had 2 defenders and a tank, but no blaster. Someone on the team commented "We dont need a blaster we have a PB with Nova" That sums up how great that power is. Considering that it is only a single power why would you NOT take it?
  24. Hi I have recently made a Broad Sword / Dark Armor scrapper. I am pretty new to the game and not familiar with either powerset. I took Slash, but that attack seems a bit weak. I did NOT take Slice, but after a closer look it appears to be a nice multiple foe attack. I took Parry as I felt I needed another attack, and the def bonus looks impressive, but damage is not great.

I had wanted to use recall friend combined with stealth for use in TFs and missions, but CoD is lvl20, which means no stamina at 20. Maybe I can deal with this if I can use merits to pick up a Miracle proc for heath, or perhaps take stamina, and use the merits for a stealth proc? Teleport or Sprint maybe?

At level 15 I have Hack, Slash and Parry as my attacks. Slash and Parry do not seem to do much damage but I do have 3 attacks!

Is there a common attack chain for Broad Sword?
  25. I would like an invite to this new channel! I love going on TFs and joining teams! I won't swear either!

    Thanks in advance!
