Quote:LMAO
One of my friends saw me playing CoH and asked "so does your superspeed ever run out?". Ha.
I'm very glad our Sprint isn't a click power that only lasts ten seconds and locks out all our other powers while it's active. And which then takes 30 seconds to recharge. That would, uh, make me dismayed. Hypothetically of course.

Woohoo!
Thanks!
Yay! /clapclap
And Gratz to CoW, too.

Quote:Damn straight (though i think there are loads of people as loyal as me here)! The WAR forumgoers were saying 'If you like PvE then I suggest you try Champions Online'. They couldn't seem to understand that I don't need any replacement for CoH. I'll be here till I'm forcibly DCed when the game ends, or i die, whichever comes first. So unlike other players you are and will be loyal to this game. Right?

Quote:Well Mercy's never empty. And if the high-levels are hanging out in the starter zones, then any actual new players are going to see a game that has an apparently high population, not to mention snazzy animations and - gasp - FLYING - etcAtlas is a bit different, though, as it's the place where everyone hangs out, even before AE. Mercy is a more typical starter zone.
. I think an MMO design team should be wanting their high-level players still showing themselves in the starter zones. When i was a new player, I remember seeing someone with a singularity out, and thinking 'what's that? I want one of those!'.
Come to think of it, I still haven't got a toon high enough to get one lol.

Quote:This, in spades. "Just stick with it, and it gets really good at lvl X" is a refrain that i have heard too often, and which i find absolutely mind-boggling, tbh. Someone in WAR (a very pleasant chap who was actually trying to help) said "It's a common thing in MMOs, the starter zones are always empty unless you've got a constant influx of new players", and I was like 'wha-?", thinking of Atlas on any given sunday, packed with alts doing sewers (and now AE stuff). Lol, we've got loads of instanced content, and our starter zones are STILL fairly visibly busy. But really what keeps me with CoX is it doesn't seem to require the time sink to be fun. The other games I've tried seem to involve this massive time sink before the game is even remotely fun.

Here's as good a place as any to mention sth which i've thought about in the last few days. The reason why i tried WAR is because i had a hankering for some sword n sorcery type action. I still do in fact. Not as a replacement for CoH, but as a supplement.
But maybe there's room in CoH for some dwarf on orc action too. Marvel has the Savage Land, doesn't it? A new zone with more fantasy content would sate my hunger for some gandalfing, i reckon, and tgen i wouldn't stray into the arms of some skanky pretender to my MMO love

I shall keep my reasons for not subbing to WAR in the WAR forums where they belong. I dont wish Mythic any ill, hopefully my criticism will be consyructive.
CoH is like a mamber of my family now though. It keeps on surprising me with how good it is. Even as i came here today to say this, i noticed tge tgread with the news about the map for instances showing the last 10% of mobs on cleR alls. Its like the devs start every team meeting with 'how can we make our players happier today?'
all i need now to make my CoH perfect is a gf who i can play it with

I've been playing Warhammer Online recently - my first 'free' month. I was looking forward to it as i love the background and lore.
My experience has been utterly dismaying in too many ways to list, but suffice to say, CoH does everything so well i believe I'm ruined for other MMOs. I wasn't considering stopping or even reducing my CoH time, 5 yrs on i still love it, but seeing what a disaster WAR is in conparison to what i want from an MMO, i fear i'll not find anything as good.
CoH is just fantastic, isn't it?

Im afraid I wont be able to make it either - Tonight my friends and i are going clubbing - a rarity, these days, believe me

One more response, to your point about the Big Bad's 'plan' to amplify the sound of the Big Bang for destructive purposes. It is indeed ridiculous and scientifically implausible, but no more so than any number of plot elements in countless arcs in this game. I personally think it actually fits the 'ludicrous crazy' act the Big Bad is putting on, would not be out of place in, say, a Von grun arc, the tone of which the comedy in this arc is aiming for, somewhat, it also mirrors the actual Reveal.
You didn't comment on my custom group the Crey Librarians at all. I'm quite proud of them, well, their look, mostly.

Thanks for the review, Aisynia. It's a shame you didn't like the humour, but I was really pleased with this sentence especially:
"As mentioned above, the way the last mission is set up, in its allowance of excellent character development for the Big Bad is really, really damned good. I was wary of that mission at first, but quickly found myself rushing from objective to objective just to hear more. Well done."
It's all a build up to that last monologue, and if you were rushing thru 16 chained Freak boss fights (!) because the dialogue was hooking you, then I guess what I did worked.

Phew, it feels like I;ve been away for ages! RL and stuff been busy lately.
Thnaks v much for the vote, Coulomb!
/rubs hands together in anticipation of some groovy arc-playing.
This really was an excellent idea, Bubba.

Quote:But we have something better, don't we? 'they' and 'their'. Getting it approved by society at large comes in many forms, advocation in internet forums, for example.Sam's just using the language we have. Unless you can come up with something better and get it approved by society at large
Once upon a time, 'negro' was deemed an acceptable term of reference for a certain type of human by 'society at large'. In 50 years, maybe some scholar will look back at us using 'he' in a gender-nuetral way, and they'll shake their head and wonder at the 'innocent' prejudice of their ancestors.
But we don't need to wait till then to start the ball rolling!
Embrace progressivism! Free the language from the shackles of outmoded patriarchy! Make 'he' go back where it belongs!

PS I view this as an interesting topic for friendly social discussion.
EDIT: I think that, with respect, Sam, sometimes you're too concerned with 'perfect' grammar when it comes to English. In my view, English grammar isn't a fixed thing, unchangeable and inviolate, so their can never be perfect grammar. Grammar that's 'correct' for the moment, maybe. One day, maybe, 'themself' will be an acceptable solution to the problem you posit. If so, who are you to say that someone using it now is wrong? -
Quote:Gonna have to disagree with you (a rarity) on this one Sam. Your stuff about spending "years trying to write around it" strikes me as protesting too much, when 'they' is only 2 letters more than 'he', and 'their' is one one more than 'his. I don't think you're justified in thinking that too onerous.Lacking a proper, grammatically correct and non-cumbersome way to say this, I would still choose to say "he" over "they" or "he/she." I've spent years trying to write around it, but I inevitably keep writing myself into corners and ending up having to reword entire sentences for no reason other than because enforced gender neutrality is unnatural and forced, purely from a language standpoint.
That, and I'm getting more than a little tired of this endless drive towards complete and utter correctness, in that every word I utter, regardless of context or intent, has to be mindful of everyone else's sensitivities. It doesn't have to be, nor would I WANT it to be. It's cumbersome, it's obstructive, it's restrictive, and it's downright unnecessary. Unless you, or anyone else, assumed I meant that I would show this courtesy to a team-mate if and only if he were a man, but would decidedly NOT show this same courtesy if he were a woman, I don't see why it has to be a problem. And, at least to me, that's not how my statement came off.
Seriously, this is getting to ridiculous levels, like people deciding not to wish each other Merry Christmas because not everyone celebrates Christmans and people who don't might feel "left out." Let's not reduce everything to absolutes, please. Not everything is a sign of segregation.

Nothing. I accomplished nothing.

I guess that's either a 'no' or a 'don't know' lol?
I'm trying to terst it out, I'll report back if i get anything concrete proven either way.

Also, hostess cupcakes and twinkies have a long and noble connection with superhero comics.

If i set a glowie to disappear once clicked, and then later i set another glowie to spawn in the same location, is it possible to have the same spawn poont used?
I guess im asking if spawn points are only useable once per mission.

Welcome. I hope you'll be voting in the 2009 MA players Awards (as featured in Bubba's thread in the MA Storiesxand Lore forum) to show your devotion to the cause
as for tweaks i'd like to see, here's a simple one: can you increase the character count for text fields please?

I'm sometimes dismayed by the fact that although it should be fairly clear to players who have PUGd even a little that yes, there are different ways of playing adopted by different players, its rare that i see any 'so, 'rules' for this PUG?' discussions when I PUG. I dont expect anything very long, but 'follow the tank/leader', follow the left/right wall', clear/stealth to boss', 'pull/herd', glowies for everyone/just mission holder' are things which could for example avoid the common comment mid mission of 'we're split' and 'boss here' - 'and here'.
I'd like to see a standard of Mission Holders Choice, personally. That way, everyone gets to play their way.
