there's understanding and then there's missing the point

I must have missed something then, I know there was a scheduled 4 hour maintenance this past Saturday, which ended up being 3 hours, but that was a stability hotfix and not physically moving the servers.

unforeseen circumstances aren't announced the day before

or the issue that was released on a Friday...oh the shenanigans!

I wont knock him for trying what looks like a fun movie.

My only reasoning is that their schedule is very tight w/ Freedom/i21 as we're only really in the head start/live beta testing phase.
NOBODY wants to do that amount of work on the weekend, and they're actually work for this guy...

it's the typical occurrence before a new issue is released and after it's released, it's technically true from that stand point.

Quote:I'd see this differently if it was a unexpected downtime, but it's not. They said 12 hours and it ended up being 9, yes it's still a long time, but was up sooner than expected. For all the bad things World of Warcraft does, they do compensate downtime. This is a perfectly reasonable request... they can extend the account time by 2-5 days, or simply add paragon points with their new system, and in turn probably get us to purchase more points.
PS: Please don't turn this into a conversation about World of Warcraft. I'm just saying that other MMORPGs absolutely compensate for unreasonable downtime. It isn't 'opening pandora's box' or some forbidden thing no one does.
I'm not going to be upset if they don't, but it is annoying. I get up early in the morning so when the game is down so much I'm hit by the majority of it. This isn't much fun.
I will say that the notice was short compared to others, I'd say a 2 day notice would have been ideal, not 13 hours (I may be off a hour or two, terrible w/ time zones). -
@Giant
You're fooling yourself if you honestly think those are the only answers. They have to work based on a schedule. They had to wait for the new servers before announcing the mandatory server update. I don't know about you, but I'm sure they'd rather spend their time actually working on the game instead of being up in the dead of night, possibly spending 20+ hours working on the servers during Thursday and Friday. Could they have waited till Monday? if their schedule allowed it, sure. In this case, it more than likely didn't and couldn't afford to wait past the weekend when the official release is near.
Don't think that it's just you guys being affected, when it's people on all sides. -
Quote:I'd expect someone to review their post when accusing someone of malice or stupidity. Don't expect courtesy when you accuse anyone of ill content or insulting their intelligence. The only form of compensation they need to offer is to stop screwing over Oceanic players.
Yes maintenance has to happen and is isn't actionable.
However, the Devs are doing at a time which is either done with malice or done with extreme stupidity.
This is the second week in a row Friday night has been out for Oceanics, Friday night is as prime as primetime gets. How about instead of Thursday morning, the Devs do their thing Wednesday morning, or Tuesday morning, or Monday morning, or any morning that doesn't equate to the prime of all prime times. It isn't unreasonable to expect courtesy.
They are a business, they are going to do what's good for business and effects the least people. Sorry if you expected a MMO to be exempt from reality. -
I was hoping for YMCA
Also, White Hot Flash made a good post w/out sounding like a troll stuck in a infinite loop. -

Quote:I wonder where those established set of rules, which are subject to change, come from. And no they aren't responsible for it except when people plan around an already established set of rules and they continually change those parameters egregiously for a solid month. Please don't quote the lame EULA 'we can shut down whenever we want' thing either.
The only ones who are turning this into drama are those who can't keep there emotions in check. Just to make it clear, so somebody doesn't try to twist my words. I'm talking about both NA and EU players. -
There's two different things going on here...
frustrated that you can't play
frustrated that you can't play and wanting something out of it and are not entitled to <- misplaced feelings -
I understand the frustration of being unable to play, because I'm practically in the same boat, but misplaced feelings do not compare.
