It also leaves us in the hitherto unusual position of needing to get help *during* a mission, since we have no way of knowing beforehand whether or not there's going to be a boss in there. That will be awkward in timed missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, if a boss will appear in a mission, the mission briefing mentions it. Check the text.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually that is quite incorrect - I did a rescue mission with my blaster against Sky Raiders last night, upon entering the mission it became Rescue & Clear with a JumpBot Boss at the end.
It was this way before I-3 & it is still this way. Undocumented bosses in missions are a fact.
Sorry Statesman, maybe try playing the game a little before making these sweeping statements. -

I've got it working, but when I push and hold the a,w,d, etc it does not enter fly mode it stays in hover mode. Not sure what is wrong?
thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm having the same problem, I've found a couple of ways around it, but it still ends up that you're toggling between fly and hover instead of having it done for you.
So, has anyone gotten a working SoD-type binds after issue 3.
[/ QUOTE ]
OK - I tested my SoD last night in I-3 (for the first time) & I didn't have any of the problems you are having.
Two things: 1)Are you using Gnarly's Speed on Demand? If not, that would be my suggestion. & 2) There is a known issue (that has never been solved), but if you "Zone" while in SoD movement (running or flying), the binds get messed up when you arrive in the new zone (you will need to reset using your reset key (I think the default is control-r)). My SoD keys are set to the arrows, so when I zone, I use the "w" key (set to std movement) to move forward to the next zone.
I hope this helps. -
Great set of binds, I'll test it out tonight with my TPing Defender (this may mean I won't respec out of TP!
)

The toggleon/toggleoff is better then I expected!
Not only will it allow you to make one key for all your toggle activations, but you can make a true "toggle" key! Try this one out:
/bind w "+forward$$powexec_toggleon Sprint$$powexec_toggleoff Sprint"
this will result in you running forward with Sprinit turning on... when you release the key, sprint turns off!
Jumpers and superspeeders now have an equivilant to
"+forward$$powexec_name Fly$$powexec_name Hover"
[/ QUOTE ]
This may work, but you might have a problem if you hit 2 movement keys at the same time (1st hit will turn you on, the 2nd off & the release back on again) - Try out Gnarly's Speed on Demand Binds for that functionality: http://www.jim.cavanaugh.net/sod.htm
[ QUOTE ]
I think it might be worth trying this as I forget Sprint on when I want to save Endurance during combat...that stinks.
I, however, use the UP key for moving forward. Is there a way to do this with the UP key? Would I say /bind UP ...instead of /bind w ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes UP is the up arrow key, DOWN is the down arrow key, LEFT is left arrow & RIGHT is right arrow. (Note that you do not need to change the binds for left & right as they are set for turns not movement). -

ok I am an admitted dummy. Im just not getting this.
I dont have a bind folder, just a keybind text file. I created 5 bind texts and the game says I have 4 arguments and need only one. I dont want to drive my teammates nuts, but it seems they enjoy my quips, and when the chips are down, it seems to help the moral.
Anyway my binds look like this:
numbpad3 "Local Stand still so I can HIT YOU!!$$powexec_name Build UP$$bind_load_file D:\Program Files\City of Heroes\build2.txt"
The guys screams, does build up, then starts swinging. However the game doesnt like it, and then he won't go to the next file.
Now, am I supposed to create the bind in the keybind text file or make it up seperately? Currently they are seperate files, but the game seems to find them...
Help?
thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi - the bind files don't like spaces in the directories - Most everyone (myself included) have created a separate bind folder on the hard drive. Mine is c:\cohbinds (notice no spaces or long names).
If you change your directory, your binds should work properly. -
No problem - I thought it was part of Issue 3, but after the posts, I thought maybe they added it in somewhere without me noticing.
Thanks for the quick response. -
Volt - are the new toggleon/toggleoff binds "live" now or after issue 3?
-
[ QUOTE ]
Is there a way to basically have two sets of Speed on Demand and have them tied to my mouse buttons?
[/ QUOTE ]
This shouldn't be too hard - 1st you need to run the bind program twice (use different directories for each set) 1 for superspeed & 1 for sprint (or name your prestige power here).
Keep everything else the same except for the reset keys (you will need 2 (1 for each set to load))
If you look back through the posts, I think Gnarly had a more complete step-by-step description of this.
I hope this helps. -
Hmmm - I wish I would have read this before last night - I did the aura mission, but not the other 2 - I could have cleaned them out as well. Thanks for the info.
I'll have to remember this for Energy Arc -

Could you explain that in "I have binding issues"?
[/ QUOTE ]
There are many problems with this "original Fly/Hover Bind" Particularly if you hit 2 keys at the same time - I would suggest using Gnarly's Speed on Demand binds - this has worked for me without any major problems. Here is the link http://www.jim.cavanaugh.net/sod.htm - you may want to look back through this thread (I know it goes on forever) to see some of the problems/solutions for this set of binds. -

ok perhaps i did something wrong... but i can't turn right... this is irritating, really irritating. e gives me 'using sprit instead of sprint' where i would like to be able to use my usual turning right... any suggestions since i am not greatly computer endowed
[/ QUOTE ]
When you installed the binds, you confused move Right(which by default is the D key) with turntright (which by default is the E key) - You will need to reinstall SoD Binds (leave move left & move right as their defaults) & when you start the game type /bind e "turnright" & /bind q "turnleft" - that should straighten you out. -

Lastly, I'm here to say goodbye. I'm quitting the game

We'll miss you Gnarly - Thanks for a great set of binds. -

Quick question.
I want to use the down arrow to go down instead of the X. I changed the script for it by changing the X after SET to down arrow and it tells me when i push it in game Uknown Command Arrow.
I used Down Arrow since that is what the bind said that key is called. I know im editing properly since I have changed a few other keys to suit my needs.
If i change it to down arrow in game then it makes me go down at hover speed rather than at fly speed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure if I completely understand you, but what I think you mean is that you use the arrow keys for movement (like me). And you bound Down to the Down Arrow & when you move down, you are still in hover mode (not fly).
That is because the Down Arrow (it's actual name is just down) no longer activates SoD, by overwriting the bind you disabled Sod on that key.
I bound Down to Numpad0 - keeping the Down Arrow to Backward.
I don't know if this answers your question correctly, but I hope I helped. -
[ QUOTE ]
Similarly for Super Jumpers, I'd suggest adding this bind:
lshift+space "++up"
This allows you to press shift and the space bar (which I normally use for jump) so I will autojump without holding down the spacebar. If you're in autorun (SoD or otherwise), then you'll bounch your way across Paragon city even if you go get a snack.
[/ QUOTE ]
hehe - I was going to post about this question yesterday, but you had already answered it (you must have been working the old crystal balll!)
One note on this: Press your movement key 1st then hit the auto jump key (doing it in reverse order cancels out the auto jump as does releasing your movement key).
Very nice add on to an already great set of binds.
Thanks -

Hi Gnarly
What would happen if I use your program for a character that does NOT have flight? (To use for the ground SoD only.)
Your ground binds do not break nearly as often as the binds I am currently using for my Non-Flying characters. I have one with SJ & the other I am going for TP.
Also - I am traveling this weekend, so I will be playing on my laptop from the road. Will I need to re-run the program on my laptop or can I just copy the bind files to the laptop (of course using the same pathing as on my main computer)?
Thanks for the input & the great program.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a similar question, albeit perhaps more newbish, but does SoD work for setting up different bindings for different characters? Something I never understood too well about saving and loading bindings, but are they kept seperate by character?
[/ QUOTE ]
Your best bet for this it to choose a different path for each character - as in my case I use c:\cohbinds\ea - the ea sub-directory holds all binds for Energy Arc & I use c:\cohbinds\mre for Mr E-Man - you get the idea. Gnarly's program let's you specify which directory & adjusts the binds accordingly. A very nice program & easy to use.
I hope that helps. -

Reset and Mode Toggle keys - These are configurable just this latest version. You can put them anywhere, but for your setup, I would NOT use any cord keys with them, either shift or Control, as those would probably interfere with your Run and Fly keys. A previous poster had problems like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I downloaded & installed last night - I didn't have any problems using your default reset & mode chords (lcontrol+r or m). I had my previous reset bound to lcontrol+r already, so I didn't think it would be a problem.
I love the way the binds self correct when you get knocked out of the air (whether it's caused by a bad key combination or some villainous attack) just by pressing a directional key.
I also appreciate the amount of customization you put into the program. I control movement & alt powers (I have the alt power tray bound to the numpad {except numpad0}) with my right hand & I control main powers & strafing with my left hand. I hardly ever use the mouse (just to select items).
Thanks again for all of the work you put into this. -
Thanks Gnarly - I will download & run tonight.
I appreciate your help with this - I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any type of conflict with my normal (odd? it seems based on most of the posts from this thread) gaming style.
Thanks again -
Hi Gnarly,
I've been following this post (and can honestly say that I read 95% of what was written), but I have a question that I don't think was asked.
Am I able to use your SoD progam using the Directional Arrow Keys?
I currently use a modified version of one of the earlier versions.
My set-up is:
rcontrol - hover/with fly on demand
rshift - ground speed on demand (prestige power dash)
directional arrows - forward/backward (with SoD)/turnright/turnleft
a & d - strafe left/right (with Sod)
numpad0 - down for flight
also I use the tilde key to target nearest enemy
This layout seems easiest for me. Will my setup work with your program?
Thanks for the help.
