Okay, so maybe it won't be an NCsoft organised event, but why in the world would that stop us, the Players? I assume everyone who went last year plans to go next year, so why don't we just all pile up there and make it a player-run event instead? We've been shown the way by the Community Team, it should be easy enough to follow in their footsteps as that very community.

    What say you all?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well said that man!, If NCwest don't step up to the plate in supporting the EU community in at least the same capacity come April....I'm in.

NCSoft don't have the marketing budget to push the game as far as it deserves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NCsoft do have the marketing budget to push the game as far as it deserves, but they have to:

A)Realise CoH is one of the mainstay 'jewels in the crown', not that they were not completely oblivious to it, - just that they were concentrating on diversifying (with Exteel, Auto-Assault, Dungeon runners, Tabula Rasa and Aion) and now with their statement that they are going to concentrate on their 'triple A titles', I get the impression that with economic recession obviously affecting the company both sides of the Atlantic It has retreated its corporate borders and ambition a little and taken a good long hard look at just what we are subscribing to.
As has been previously mentioned, 'on-the-ground' support for a game on foreign soil is hideously expensive. I also think any studio is lucky to have one title nowadays that has lasted as long as Lineage II, GuildWars or City of Heroes/Villains has nevermind expecting all the current MMO diversication previously mentioned to take off as well.

I appreciate the school of thought that says if you are not constantly expanding your portfolio then you are just treading water in the marketplace, but there is an equally valid argument for spreading yourself too thin.
Yes it is good a company is trying to introduce us to new products but I get the impression with the old NCsoft plan it really was too much and too many products targeted to subscribers that weren't really interested.

I can't put my finger on why for example exactly Tabula Rasa is in trouble, other than my own experiences as a Sci-Fi fan and it not really grabbing my attention at all, and that really was not to do with the advertising or marketing rather I just saw it as too plain a generic Sci_fi MMO with features that really didn't grab my attention despite all the targeted advertising I received.
Its dodgy launching an MMO on a new licence, one whose IP has not already proved to have captured an audiences imagination for example: An MMO on the Star Trek Online franchise was a bit of a no-brainer for Cryptic, I can see why they pounced on it, It is not a matter of if but when that MMO (along with Bioware's KoTOR MMO) is going to be a potential WoW-slayer in my opinon .
With GuildWars and City of Heroes they have been around so long they have kind of generated their own solid fanbase independant from TV/Movie IP.

    b) After this corporate reshuffle and reflection on what these Triple-A titles are in the portfolio maybe there will be more emphasis on developing these titles for the future, whether that means new engine transplants, full blown sequels or an exponential increase in content... we'll have to wait and see. - The titles that have endured and survived have done so for a reason and that is because they have captured the audiences/subscribers imagination in a massive way, a way any company is lucky to have done once yet alone three times.

    Nothing in there about NorCal?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considering the funds pumped into setting up NorCal I would be very surprised if they are affected in the slightest. As far as I can see this is all about the supporting/publishing structures around the Dev team and shifting to support a reconsidered portfolio of MMOs.

  7. I think this is great, verywell done LeighB!

If this was set in the past it could be like 'Gotham by Gaslight' - maybe entitled Paragon by Paraffin-Lamp.
An ElseWorld where a traumatized Stephan runs away to The Rogue Isles, grows up and starts Arachnos.

    Ragdoll Physics

They are ingame as PvE, and not necessarily just on the killing blow either. Having it added to Knockback in pvp would be quite funny.

EVE is the ONLY game I've played where I've decided 'bugger this for a game of trousers!' before managing to complete the tutorial.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LMFAO - I did exactly that, I was stuck trying to destroy some stupid asteroid with a minigun when I uninstalled it

    [/ QUOTE ]

Comparing Eve experiences, I tried a free trial pre-graphical redux, and found it fiddly, a weird GUI and when I did set a warp-speed wormhole gate heading I made for Eden Prime.
I was just taking in the scenery and listening to the broadcast (which was rather an unhelpful dialogue between newbies and Veterans) to his credit a Veteran did try to help me re:some questions I had - but on overall initial impression found it nowhere near the helpful community in CoX.

So there I was belting along in my basic ship heading for Eden Prime when nearing my destination I started to get a little bored, so I took a pot-shot at a craft that was clearly looking at me funny, anyway.. It turned out to be a Police NPC craft and proceeded to blow my ship to pieces.
I was still about 12 systems away from my destination so had to limp the rest of the way there in my escape pod, winding up passing ships by broadcasting my captains log as I went, what I was seeing out my escape-pod window and how I had the most deadly uber-pod out there and how they should phear teh pod.™

45 minutes later I arrived at my destination. Eden Prime was rubbish, so I turned around and limped back.

CoX is definately head and shoulders above the rest

  11. Don't be sad Days, *hugs - Don't look on it as you haven't been able to find another MMO the same quality as CoX, rather congratulate yourself you struck gold first time around!.

P.s: Twas my first MMO as well.
  12. Congratulations Pirates you bunch of Lightweights.
  13. Thats one fine piece of rump!,
Very well done Federico!, beautiful work!.

Its early days, I PM'd and emailed GhostRaptor when the race was announced. He is a very busy young man.
  20. I 've seen the Halo re-used somewhere else in the game, I'm sure of it, but I cannot for the life of me remember where.
The flaming crown of thorns is very nice though, expect to see a fair few Hellboy homages when that hits.

Both v.welcome as goodies for the winter event.

Darn it! I quite like the Resident Evil series,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well the Res.Evil:Extiction is certificate 15 so you'll just have to aim to come third! , either that or get your parents to give me the ok Midnight.

And a big and continued thankyou to all who have volunteered both here and on PMs to marshall the event.
This event was deliberately started early so we could discuss and finesse the route, get screenshots of the route up on the forums and finalise details before the event on Halloween. Obviously activity will increase on this thread the nearer we get to that date.

Hmm... if we're villains shouldn't we be cheating anyway? (Just as long as we don't get caught).

No, because to quote such a saying there is such a thing as 'honour among thieves'.

Once again thankyou to all who are volunteering.

I'm asking why there isn't the same sort of competition / reward system for the most helpful / well written guide or site every once in a while

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess its because a guide on how to do something is subjective, Yes i know art is subjective too - but in a different way.
With art its just somebodys interpretation of CoX which is personal to them and cannot be unaccurate in a defined sense.
With a guide, take for example the Statesman TaskForce: Someone could work up a great guide on how to do it a certain way, but that is just it, there is no one true and correct way to do it, but many variations. Plus I suppose if the guide is 98% accurate to doing it a certain way and has a small error or omission - would that negate the entry as a 'correct' guide?, you can't keep on submitting edited versions for consideration month after month.

Like I said, somewhat problematic!. - there are some great guides out there though aren't there!.

    Forum Titles...

    [ QUOTE ]
Actually how come titles are given out for stories, piccies etc but never for things like guides, sites or apps (with the exception of Mids builder, and there was a lot of moaning when that was, quite rightly, awarded by Bridger)?

I love reading the stories and the like but to a lot of the player base a good guide or site can be more helpful in helping them develop their toons.

I think the US have Guide titles?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Problematic in that the creative posts obviously have to go in 'creative' whereas the guides are going to go in 'guides'.... but theoretically, a great guide is worthy in my opinion.
