If they had the choice between working on Issue 14 and doing more for the valentines day then I know what I would choose.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NorCal are the developers, a 'Choice' doesn't come into it.
If new event feature updates were planned ahead like they should be and time put aside they could do both.

In the words of the wise old green one "do or do not - there is no try".
  2. [ QUOTE ]
If they had done new stuff for Valanties, it would have had to be tested.

the test server has been frantically busy trying to clear the decks so issue 14 can be tested.

Having a valantine event would have pushed back the resolution of issue 13 issues (i.e. chat bug) and hence pushed back issue 14, and issue 15, which is tightly shedualed to co-inside with the 5th aniversary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I understand what you're saying Praf68, but as you know these things aren't dreamt up, built and tested in the fortnight before the event goes live. If you are going to run annual events and market them to your subscribers, Time should of been put aside a year ahead to concept, build and test said new feature alongside ongoing Issue updates.

There really is no excuse for it, and as a subscriber I hold them to a monthly fee of £8.99 for good events alongside Issue updates.
  3. See now that is very poor.

    [ QUOTE ]
We were not able to schedule in a live update to this event this year, so please plan accordingly with mains and alts to enjoy the event as you desire.

    Regards,

    [/ QUOTE ]

(With respect) Why was there no time to schedule a live update?, something different for the Valentines Event this year?, NorCal has had a whole year to come up with something new! .
...oh, and btw "We've been working on Issue updates is not going to cut it".

See I'm all for supporting CoX, (nigh on 48 Months on the most expensive tariff-plan on-purpose) and as such I hope I've earnt a little bit of Moan-Time™ when occasionally NorCal/NCsoft try to pull the wool over subscribers eyes. This Laissez-faire attitude taken again this year with running the same old event has got to stop or else we'll be losing subscribers to the shiney competition.

Are you kidding me?, In effect; "you haven't the event on your alts so it is not entirely old?" kinda attitude - did I just read that right?

[EDIT]: oh, and btw NCsoft, If you have nothing more to pad out event feature notes - may I suggest Its probably not the best time to try and flog the wedding pack. Its kind of insulting...not that was your intention of course.

I moan because I care™. Poor show guys,... Poor show.
  4. We should be able to get a fairly decent venue this time around for a mini-con, I know in years past NCsoft Europe has struggled to find the funds for player-events as It has been solely out of their pocket. I'm hoping with the formation of NC West* we can have a nice full weekend of events.

    [ QUOTE ]

    *NCsoft confirms NC West formation.

NCsoft has confirmed earlier reports by GamesIndustry.biz that it is to unify its operations outside of Korea under the tentative banner of NC West.

The new wholly-owned subsidiary will take responsibility for activities in the US and European regions and will be headed up by Chris Chung, who has been named as CEO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In short, Are we going to have any help from the parent company to ensure EU.players get a great Mini-Con?
  5. [ QUOTE ]
I really don't think that's the best idea. Let's face it - a bunch of geeks in costumes probably isn't the best way to entice new players to the game...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its works for Lucas' 501st Squadron at StarWars Events

    [ QUOTE ]
I believe the best way for NCsoft to pull in a few punters to the event would be to offer playable previews of upcoming games, like the 4 ton hype demon known as Aeon...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe thats what happened at OS last year, with try-outs of Tabula Rasa and Aion.
  6. Absolutely, I think I would spend little time playing CoX.
Maybe a little wishlist of what people would expect from a weekend event like this would be good...

    In-Venue:
#Quiz based on CoX (with great prizes).
    #TFs/Cossie contests.
    #Guest appearence/talks from Devs
#Films shown in the evening (like last year apparently).
#XBox 360 with Guitar Hero/Rockband and DC vs MK.
    #Big comfy Beanbags
#Miss Liberty Vs GhostWidow Mud Wrestling ring (whoops, how did this get in here)
#More competitions; CoX-themed cook-off (cook at home and bring in)/best cosplay outfit etc),
last year I think the Friday night was the cosplay disco night, maybe send an invite to Massively or some MMO-site to cover the whole event?, at least two of the reviewers are long-time subscribers.

Out of Venue: (Not Inclusive obviously)
    #Close to a great pub/bar
#A restaurant meal in the evening
    #A Pool table
    #A club in the evening
    #More good food and drink.

[EDIT:] Someone else bring Champagne also this time... and some cups. - probably better bring some Resolve™ also.
  7. A tentative Yay! \o/

Please may we have a longer period of notice this time around for organising time-off. Thanks.

Oh boy, this ole chestnut - The marketing of CoX ...don't get me started.

I was rather surprised in my local large AppleMac store to see no box artwork, no label placeholder presence advertising CoX was available for the AppleMac as a digital download. Many games were available, CoX was not one of them,... not even a mention anywhere.

This is where the marketing for this game falls down, you can talk the talk, but unless you walk the walk and get the product onto the shop floor - whats the point. I asked the assistant whether he had heard of 'City of Heroes' and he hadn't - nor had he any clue it was available as a digital download!.
#Why, I was so Infuriated I threw my milkshake in his face and frantically started pulling the gameboxes off the wall-peggs. I hazily remember shaking and tearing the WoW box to shreds with my bared teeth in a feral fury.

    (#actual reality may of differed.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hooray!, Its listed stateside! - Now to get It over here on the EU.site and get those placeholder artwork labels/cards up at local stores advertising this title as a digital download.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Yup, was great . We Aussies don't get to see this sort of thing very often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    #Note for GR:

    *Fluffy 'snow' snowballs are fun.
*Icey (hard compacted snowballs) hurt. (a bit like cricketballs).
    *Avoid the Yellow Snowballs.
  10. /em, Hmmm,
    I dunno... I quite like number 8.

Seriously though, number 7's great - I love the addition of kitchen whisk in there!

  12. Ok, change of plans as I'm far too warm (and lazy) to go back out in all that snow after clearing the pathway, Its starting to snow again and theres a lovely hot cuppa brewing so I think I'll leave it until tomorrow before attempting a snow sculpture thingy If the countrys still ground to a halt.
  13. Hehe, thats great - love the detailing on the ghost
  14. Yes, not the best placement I must agree - still, at least its in stock.
  15. How low can you go though? - The collectors edition is being sold for £9.99 at PlayNC.com.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
What is it about snow that makes our country collapse so?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well thats obvious!, Its the Wrong Type of Snow™ that clearly our infrastructure was not designed to handle.
The rest of the snowbound world must be in fits of laughter at fragile little Blighty grinding to a halt over a couple of inches of snow.

It is rather nice snow though, I've just cleared the pathways (for what its worth) and rather impressed with this Russian brand, - really dense and great to build with!.
Its even hanging off the sides of my car in great slabs!, the sides!!! ... thats not even possible is it?, Its vertical!, Its non-porous!, Its defying the laws of physics Capt.!, Its not just not right .

On the European front, Lots of places get weather far more extreme that our little flurry - Geneva was hit by an Ice-Storm on Wednesday,... Unlucky for this guy who parked next to Lake Geneva: Good Luck defrosting that mate.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    Thank'ee one and all!

And it is turning out to be a rather good cake day; only two of us made it into the office through the snow, and one large chocolate cake to take care of!

    [/ QUOTE ]

That really is too good an opportunity to pass up!, I recommend a deskchair speedway course or an Impromptu song and dance number on the bosses desk.... unless of course the 'other' is the Boss.

    Happy Birthday Standoff!
  18. Well, I did plan to do a nice Carnie Illusionist snow sculpture but I can't find any chickenwire in the shed to support the arms and dress bustle - I guess I'm going to have to put my Ray Mears survival skills to the test by building an Arachnos themed Igloo instead.

    I - may - be - sometime.
(disappears into the white-out like Scott of the Antarctic)

So the topic title says it all, when will the closed beta start?

I personally think that the "Official" teaser pages will be up this week or next with the Closed Beta starting on the 17th.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Back Alley Brawler is online - ask him.
  20. ...or NCsoft Europe / PlayNC? - they practically give them away at Comic-Cons the price is so low.

Whoah! - 4-5cm!, thats at least enough for a half-size scale Sprocket or Rubble.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but you're off your rocker if you think I'm going on in it... It's freezing out there!

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't have too FFM, thats what minions are for.
  22. Whoah! - 4-5cm!, thats at least enough for a half-size scale Sprocket or Rubble.
  23. With temperatures set to plunge and some weather coming across from Russia we are supposed to be getting anything up to 20cm of snowfall tonight here in the UK. How about whenever it falls for you we have a snowman competition.

Anything CoH/V-related, Snow or Ice sculpted. Maybe some MMO websites will be interested in showcasing any entries.
  24. Nobody should feel to blame for tonight, we did well and It was nobodys fault the server couldn't cope with 200 people in Kings Row. A fair few Titans spanked - A fair few Merits gained - Thankyou Tsu and Stryke.
