That may be the case, but personally I believe that WoW would not have the almost parody-worthy Infamous reputation as a time-consuming grindfest if it was just gamers that dipped their toes in it metophorically-speaking, levelling up to Lv15 before quitting to slag it off ad-infinitum.
For me personally, having read that you need to put considerable time into it to remain relevent in PvP and maintain a guild, The time involved on-top of the look of the visual-style of the thing, I'll happily admit I'm not interested. I don't need to try it to assertain whether I'd enjoy it or not.
Still, If you do, If anyone does, has the time and likes what they see in-game... great! - enjoy!. -

Hey guys guys this game is [censored] but I've not tried it okay!
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't tried a P00 sandwich either, but something tells me I wouldn't like it.
I am more than happy to take the advice of millions of gamers who advise others WoW is a grindfest that takes up way too much of your time to do anything else. That (on top of the visual-look of the game) discounts it for me more than anything.
I said I haven't tried it Extremus, not that I hadn't read about it extensively and a lot of the critical reviews on the MMO, Slight difference. Besides... no smoke without fire 'n' all that. -
Thats great if the stories are easily selectable, flagged and uploaded as active and able to be deselected to inactive without losing the story.
We'll have to set up some request thread for highly rated arcs to be made active on a rotating or request basis as I'm sure creative players will come up with more than a couple of great ones. -
Yeah that dual- errr... 'specs' patch has been known about for a fair few months and was highlighted on the MMO sites. Mind you they charge for it!
I'm continued to be astounded with gamers addiction to WoW, I've never tried it personally as the visual style of it doesn't exactly ring my bell. The mere mention of the acronym makes me smirk.

Anyone heard if these job positions are new or existing?, this an expansion of the team or are our powers designer and character artist off?
Linky -
No, because NCsoft europe were telling the truth as they knew it and reiterating the company line at the time.
Its NCwest which turned around and did a two-stage cull of our Brighton offices and continues to set policy as it sees fit for the Ameri... err I mean Western MMO market, It was nothing to do with NCsoft Europe. -

Until a friend of mine actually plopped the CoH Good vs Evil box in front of me a couple of years ago, I'd never heard of it..
[/ QUOTE ]
Ditto, I too discovered it quite by accident.
NCsoft's continued predisposal to virtual MMO-site advertising and marketing would of made no difference to me whatsoever if the scenario was run again today and a 'me' from three or so years ago may still not have heard of this superhero MMORPG. I wasn't as active on the Internet as I am these days but I was still massively into SuperHeroes and product on the shelf and advertised would of grabbed me (as fortunately and coincidentally as it did back then when I happened upon it on exchanging a game in my local Gamestation).
Don't even get me started on how the company fails to promote a product as effectively as Blizzard does when in this time in cinema culture when there is a massive resurgence in the SuperHero genre and fantasy is running second re:film output.
We've had the first age of that (post Spiderman 2002) up till now and there will be a 2nd resurgence of the genre with all of the Marvel (and DC) films coming when The Avengers films are strung together in 2010. If NCsoft/NCwest fails to capitalise on that resurgence in the genres popularity then with the number One SuperHero MMO (with 5 years backstory and history) and a relatively weak Champions product and newly launched DCUO then I absolutely despair.
/em,sarcasm on
... still, Its not all doom and gloom, at least Jeff Strain has got himself a nice new apartment and hobby blogging about it.
/em,sarcasm off -
I understand the frustration but closing the thread because people are arguing their corner isn't going to help. Just keep things civil and respect others right to hold a different opinion.
Closing the thread will just be like lopping the head off a Hydra, the debate is clearly raw and justified and If it is locked another thread on the same topic will spring up before long. -

Given that WoW rakes in several thousand times as much as CoH, they could spend 1% of thier income on marketing and still spend more than the entire income of NCwest.

You must spend money to make money.
...hard philosophy to follow in the wake of a Global downturn, still... NCwest have done absolutely b£$ger all for Europe since their formation. I know Its a cliche' of the American business mentality that the World stops at their shores but they really aren't doing anything to disprove that cliche'. -
Don't worry Virtue, Its not you - Its us. We moan because we care.
Ps: Welcome to the forums.
The forums (and company) is in a transitional stage right now and a lot of us are rather anxious hence the phenomenon you are witnessing known as DOOMPOSTS. -

Hi all,
Unfortunately there are currently no plans to release this in Europe as an actual box. Producing a box run is an expensive process, and there are other factors involved that will become clear in time (no, not server mergers or anything like that).
It will, however, be available via the PlayNC store.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi GhostRaptor,
With respect, what has the price got to do with anything?, It is NCwest which is supposed to be overseeing the product in the Western world and last thing I heard Europe was still classified as 'The West'.
NCwest is not short of a pretty penny - or is NCsoft Europe still being told they have to run their end of the business on and from their own seperate budget? as they were with funding the playermeets in years past and getting no support whatsoever from the parent company.
[ QUOTE ]
NCsoft has confirmed earlier reports by GamesIndustry.biz that it is to unify its operations outside of Korea under the tentative banner of NC West.
The new wholly-owned subsidiary will take responsibility for activities in the US and European regions and will be headed up by Chris Chung, who has been named as CEO.
Jeff Strain will become president of product development for the new company, with David Reid as president of publishing and Patrick Wyatt as CTO, with a new headquarters set to be established in Seattle by the end of this year.
No announcements have yet been made regarding the positions of European executives such as Geoff Heath, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that the previously-planned product development in the Brighton office has been halted, with as many as 70 staff made redundant today.
The statement made by the company with respect to the formation of NC West made no specific mention of whether or not NC Austin's future was secure, or which jobs would be based in Seattle, amid earlier reports that some positions would be axed.
"We are confident that by combining our subsidiaries into a unified global organisation under Chris Chung's leadership, NC West will become a more powerful force to be reckoned with in the western MMO market," said NCsoft CEO TJ Kim. "Chris has become a guiding force within our company and has been extremely successful at every position he has held with us. His detailed first-hand knowledge of all aspects of our business is invaluable and will help establish NC West as a global leader."
[/ QUOTE ]
NCwest are saying one thing and doing another. Have they got the company chequebook out and done one single positive thing for Europe yet?, past decimating/streamlining the UK office for profit (profitable for them that is).
If they are serious about the future of this MMO in Europe they will include Europe in the distribution of the new box.
Sorry but this has really 'got my goat', chalk this up as the 2nd thread I'll be pushing Avatea for re:answers from the States on the EU.side business of this MMO. -
[ QUOTE ]
more importantly, any exclusive items from buying said new pack?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well seeing as though it includes the Mac client, I take it the Valkyrie goodies are included as per the Mac only edition?, I would of thought so, at least... I hope so.
But yes a box update was necessary, you can't really push a product for people to find they need to update by a further seven Issue updates on connecting.
...and heres hoping its not the final box art.
We may not like the MMO product but WoW does have nice shelf presence with its colourful fold-out boxes. It really looks like they have made an effort with the shelf product.
In an age of digital downloads and manuals on PDF file, it is nice sometimes to have a lovingly crafted shelf package you can pick up and hold in your hands. -

Certainly not! - put your pants back on and behave yourself FFM !.

Yes, that box art right there is ...awful, just awful.
There is not one new art asset there, every figure is pulled from existing CoX art assets that are years old.
Not only that but the whole artstyle is swinging away from the Good Vs Evil branding that has predominantly defined CoX up until now.
I hope the European Box set is more creative, either give it to us via another art competition or (If NC soft are short on ideas and planning to do a version of that for the EU.market) chuck it my way and by hell's teeth I'll gladly do a better cover.
Sorry just my professional opinion, The branding for 'Good Vs Evil' is sound and recognised, The Mission architect logo is also great and could be used as a reveal under a box-jacket slip or inside (or even as a Steelbook.com cover) - this new box art uses neither of CoX's best Imagery/branding and just comes across as a lazy port of the similar art on the website.
Don't get me wrong, The content for Issue 14 sounds revolutionary, but I certainly wouldn't package it like that. -
Captain Dynamic wants you to "Touch his Awesome button".

How big is your list of story arcs to make at the moment FFM? I know mine is 7 fully planed out, around 20 half planned arcs and god only knows how many more ideas.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, not that many... 2, maybe 3.. hundred.

Just noticed this:
[ QUOTE ]
Each account can have up to 3 published story arcs.
A story arc can be made of up to 5 missions.
Up to 25 objectives in each missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm, choose wisely then. I hope thats meant to be 3 active story arcs. -
Bother, still can't find that Audio file;

We've got both a shiny collection of screens and a nice juicy hour-long audio file of Joe Morrissey discussing the various (and numerous) ins and outs of this hugely anticipated feature. Of course, we've also distilled the most pertinent information into an easily skimmed list, which you can find after the break along with the audio.

From Massively.com's feature
Mission Architect's key features
System for creating missions is built into the game. A company called "Architect Entertainment" offers a virtual world experience for heroes and villains. You enter this company, create your adventure via a Holodeck-like interface and share it with the world.
XP and influence rewards for player-created missions are exactly the same as any other mission rewards.
You can level a character from level 1 to level 50 solely through Architect Entertainment at an equivalent rate to leveling elsewhere.
Missions can be shared with anyone regardless of what server or side someone plays on.
The mission browser is for people who just want to play the user created content. You can sort these stories by name, highest rated, length and recently added.
You can rate a mission from 1-5 stars after completing it.
Depending on how well the mission is rated, its creator will get in-game benefits and could even enter a Hall of Fame. Incentives!
Missions of high regard could become Dev Choice, where even more rewards lie in wait.
A mysterious third tier exists, but more on that later...
Inappropriate content
Language filters check for unwanted words and won't allow publishing them until they're removed.
Players can flag content for inappropriateness.
All users and flags are tracked for any potential vote griefing.
Enemies
Every enemy group that's been in the game since launch is available.
Conversely, you can create custom enemies and enemy groups.
Pick from minions, lieutenants, bosses.
Give enemies any powers you want.
Miscellaneous
Local stories are on your actual harddrive, and you can have as many as you can store.
These local stories can be tested by you or your party, but they are not considered published yet.
While playing local stories, you gain no rewards as this is meant for testing.
There's a separate section for creating your own custom characters for missions.
Architect Entertainment buildings are in 19 different zones.
Each account can have up to 3 published story arcs.
A story arc can be made of up to 5 missions.
Up to 25 objectives in each missions.
[EDIT]: I can't seem to find the hour long audio file (Interview) mentioned... anyone? -
I believe its the converse FFM, The uniform lighting in Atlas (like most city zones) and little architectual diversity means this new building sticks out like a sore thumb, but thats good. I'm all for more architectual diversity to make the city appear more realistic, More buildings need to be wildly different to shake things up a bit design-wise, If more different styles are added then they will start to blend in the un-uniform way a modern cityscape does. Personally though If I were a Dev on the Design team I'd tinker with the lighting diversity/intensity on the city zones a lot more.
[EDIT]: Oh, and /em,cower at hordes of lv54 Malta. >.< -
