    a lack of imagination

    *chuckles*

said the critic to the author...

Other than the two I gave, Can you think of any other reasons old animations have ended up part of the paid-for magic pack? - happy to hear them if you can think of any.

I don't understand the ease at which old animations have come anywhere near being considered for these new emotes?, especially as it is a paid-for micro transaction set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It cost us £6. It gives us emotes where there wasn't any before. It's given us a shiny new power.

All of those things look very pretty.

It's had some problems, but it's working fine and looking great now.

For such a small sum of money, I think they did a good, nay a great job.

I think you're expecting to much from them, to be honest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And thats great! - If those customers of the Magic-Pack are happy with the purchase price and content therein.
The cossies are great and I've given credit where credit's due to Jay on the Intricate detailing on the costumes, but Personally with regard to the emotes.. any re-hashed/re-used content (to me anyway) says there must of been.. a): a lack of imagination or b): a shortcut taken where one need not of been (especially considering the dev-time taken since the success of the Cyborg Pack).

What really annoys me is that the devs put an enormous amount of effort into this, when that effort should have been put to better use.

The resources could have been used to create new contacts, missions, mob types, zones etc that are part of the CoX canon.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Youve got to be kidding me.

Personally I appreciate the effort put in by devs to create something out-of-the-ordinary, but I havent tested the architect long enough to have an opinion yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Long term players have been asking for new zones, mobs etc for a long time now. All the devs have done is to allow players to do the work themselves, and to have these arcs/missions be playable in a virtual setting within the game.

With the best will in the world all of these player generated arcs/missions do not form any part of the CoX Universe. They are not part of the game canon and can never be treated as such.

When the novelty value of MA wears off, all we'll be left with is a lot of MA farming arcs and a multitude of arcs of varying competence.

I would have rather had the devs put their resources into new zones, arcs/ missions, mobs etc that are actually part of the game. The graphics and power customisation are an issue as well. The game needs an upgrade and very soon.

Now, it may be that they have been and that MA simply came first. If so then that's good. If not, it's a problem for this game. It faces stiff competition with the impending release of Champions Online.

I know that plenty of people in my SG are going to have a go at CO. A look at the CO forums quite clearly shows that there are a sizeable number of current CoX players who are waiting to play CO.

As it stands the i14 content is nowhere near enough. Here's hoping that i15 is a lot stronger.

So .. If you are asking am I Kidding you?

    Not really.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A strong and valid point. Having limited time, personally I prefer to pay for and get official MMO content - not be given the tools to do it myself and told "There you go - unlimited playability!" - because its not the same thing!.

Now, with Paragon Studios seemingly signing themselves up to a lifetime contract of policing and checking reported arcs, there are going to have less time to concentrate on your previous suggestions that subscribers have been consistently and specifically asking for.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
and i'm loving the costume change emotes

    [/ QUOTE ]

Forgive me, but aren't those the Clear Mind, Whirlwind, Moment of Glory, Regen Aura and Bonfire animations?

I was hoping for some new animations but they appear (and please do correct me If I have this wrong), but they appear to be existing animations with alternate GFX over the top.

The best of them is the Tarot-card animation but to be honest I was hoping for totally new animations and not in any way shape or form re-hashed as seems to be the habit lately with Paragon Studios.

    Some suggestions:
#Wonderwoman twirl with arms outstretched and expanding flash-effect and sfx.

#phonebox slides-up out out of the ground, toon runs in/flash-effect/ toon re-appears

#Toon draws portal circle in the air in-front of himself, jumps through portal/flash effect/land on other side in full-spandex.

New animations have been done before, (wedding-pack, cyborg-pack) - I don't understand the ease at which old animations have come anywhere near being considered for these new emotes?, especially as it is a paid-for micro transaction set.

But I'm only going on the game now and then when there's nothing to do, and tend to log off after about 5 minutes

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats an awful shame Wuffley, give us a call when you're next on-duty, we'll have to team.

Wishing you all the best with your revised costume competitions.
  6. I too feel the need to click on said new shiny costume pack, but I think I'll wait until next Issue and see if we still get costumes for our standard subscription before I even think about buying anymore micro-transaction packs.

Damn principles getting in the way again.

Never experienced the like personally. Most odd.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Get rid of the ones with absolute minimal imagination/effort that are just done to be ill-considered ego-boosting 'this is the origin of me aren't I uber' arcs (but we can leave the well written entertaining ones) and we have about 40% left.

Now remove all the ones where the publisher* shows a complete lack of imagination and can't even be bothered to make it look like they care and I guess we'd be down to about 10% left.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I appreciate the sentiment, the sheer quantity and scale of quality is overwhelming, The problem is (if you pardon the analogy) One man's "Juggs Weekly" is another Man's "War and Peace". NCsoft have a fine line to tread regarding subscribers freedom to publish within the EULA and actual offending content. Its very possible the MA authors you despise have tried their best bless em, they could be 9 years old for all you know.

What can I say, the cream will naturally raise to the top and the rating system is your friend re: searching for new content.
  12. Happy Birthday Cynic!

It certainly looks very nice, and includes some things we've been asking for for a very long time, such as a proper cloak and especially costume change emotes.

But I have a question. Are we moving over to ONLY getting new costume pieces and emotes via paid-for addon packs? Seeing as we didn't get any free ones in this issue, which is pretty unusual...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Twas sorta inevitable once they started down the microtransactions route with the Wedding Pack really Why give things for free when you just know lots of people will pay for them?

Not really too surprising, the IP is old, there is a semi-fanatical fanbase who will buy most things. May as well milk it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Both FFMs comment and the above quotage does have a point.
We are paying for subscription content that is supposed to include cossie additions, emotes and PvE content. If however, content traditionally subscribed to is going to be stealth-migrated into micro-transactions then I would rather It be made policy upfront.
The scope of how much value all these micro-transaction packs are will come into sharp contrast as each of the character-creation systems from the competition are experienced by subscribers, and whether people will continue to buy themed-costume packs if they available for free in other MMOs.

Upside, the Magic pack looks great, Jay has clearly listened to what the community wanted when drawing up his list of what to add, even if he did go off on a bit of a detour along the female bat-panties theme.
The Capes look great and I love the padded quilting effect texture akin to Victorian smoking jackets, the collars and hoods on the capes and exquisite detail shown will ensure Paragon tastes strange... Dr.Strange for a good couple of months.
I'm intrigued by the costume change emotes and cannot wait to see how they work.

As a subscriber I'm looking keenly at what will be added for standard subscriptions re: additional costumes, emotes, substantial PvE-content (outside of the Mission Architect) and what needs to be revamped in the existing game (ie: character-meshes, zones, PvP, the seemingly abandoned Hamidon event and lesser used Shards).
I doubt I'll be swayed if Issue:15 The Coming Storm is just the Rikti invasion code in Nazi uniforms.

Good!, I hope you ride him to within an inch of his life, whipping him with a riding crop, stopping at intervals to scan the horizon with an old pair of binoculars. I would ask if he smells worse on the inside but that clearly be inappropriate.

...not that I have a tauntaun fetish or anything

    I'll pretend I didn't read the Jar-Jar comment.

  19. So tag said arcs as 'trial' and to delete after 14 days?

Anyway, cut 'n'pasted from Announcements because I can't be bothered to type it all again:

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

    Trial Account Restrictions:

Players using Trial Accounts may not access Mission Architect terminals. Trial Account users can be invited to teams that are using the Mission Architect Missions, but cannot create, rate or start any published Mission Architect Missions until they “upgrade” their account with either:

    * an online serial code purchased from the online NCsoft store,
    * an NCsoft Game Card (purchased from a participating retailer) or
    * a serial code from a City of Heroes / Villains boxed retail product.

    [/ QUOTE ]

more restrictions on trial accounts I'm beginning to wonder if they would be quicker just releasing video demos of other people playing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've gotta say I find this a little odd. All the time spent advertising the Mission Architect, getting potential subscribers interested and starting trial accounts to try it out, finding they cannot and are barred from the very content they want to try out? - sorry but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see thats just plain ridiculous.

A better option would be tagging arcs by Trial players to last only as long as their trial subscription. Surely?.
