  2. I believe Positron alluded to the fact that the graphical updates will be optional as are the current graphical frosting under the menu>options>gfx tab.

This should help!, apologies but the linked images to the book covers have long been deleted, but the book titles and publishers are valid should you wish to google/pricecheck the titles.

    Happy Drawing Predatory! .o>
  4. Yeah, It was Positron I believe, alluding to the fact that the current engine is capable of more, but they had been holding back on showing just what it was capable of with respect to subscriber's Min/Max PC specs.
  5. [ QUOTE ]

PS: The Champions graphics are not so much better then what CoH allready has, they use the same engine for [censored] sake, an engine originaly created back in 2000.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually it isn't the same incarnation of engine.
Cryptic Engine [u]2.0[u] and the Cryptic Animation Rig are just two of the tools that were developed specifically for and used for the Champions-Online title, and the engine is capable of faster reactions and better graphics and animation. The good news is that with the sale of the CoH IP Cryptic licences NCsoft to use these engine technologies for all future products.

Thats good to hear, however, continued tweaking of architect (much like pvp) is not NCsoft's workload but the Dev's,... like I said, more time invested.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It almost seems like you're complaining a) that the Devs are continuing to undertake development work and b) that the Devs are continuing to support recently-released projects within the game.

You might not be massively fond of MA, but - objectively - wouldn't you be more concerned if they'd just decided to drop it on its [censored] and not invest resources to improving it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm, no, you're right features should be supported, but really its about an expanding wealth of features (and maintainance thereof) diffusing the focus of the product at this critical time.
'City of' has enough game reward systems now, enough QoL qizmos now, as handy and welcome as they are Its the bare bones of 'City of' that need updating now or else it is not going to hold its place in the market in 2-3 years time.

I'm not overly convinced that on the eve of the arrival of CoH's first major competitor in the market - that Paragon Studios is concentrating on the areas of the game that it should be to match the expectations of new subscribers, and new subscribers are lifeblood for any MMO.
New subscribers/Trial players don't care about PvP or Mission Architect, they'll be too busy experiencing the wealth of the game we all did several years ago... at least they would if they stayed around long enough to work through it all, and quite a lot aren't as I'm hearing comments like "You subscribe to this? LOL, the graphics are worse than Second-Life!". Unfortunately Shiny™ does matter an awful lot to the uninitiated

So back to your point, of-course newly-Introduced features need to be supported, but if those features need continual support and tweakage with every single patch and every single Issue (and I fully expect MA to join PvP as one of those systems thats going to need perpetual tweakage) then that has got to (by the very logical definition of only having so much time between Issues) take away time that could & should be going into PvE content, graphics/engine-revamps/refined Character-meshes/Costumes/Audio-redesign/ and global zone enviroments.

In-short, On the eve of the competition arriving, Paragon Studios should be doing everything to take points away from Champions-Online and introduce systems and features they hold to be unique about their product, that combined with revamping the visual look and sound of the game will ensure it stays ahead. Not listening to suggestions we've been asking for for years, or thinking the product has enough heritage to attract new subscribers without a shiney revamp will (I fear) ensure it doesnt.

I'd say that Mercy is way, way, way down the list of zones needing remakes - Cap Au Diable is the Villains' gathering zone (although, admittedly that's the Black Market truck's fault, rather than anything else).

I'd much rather they looked at Boomtown, Eden or, even better, Dark Astoria first.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed, you can't really complain about a zone that cites Mogadishu as its architectual/enviromental inspiration.
I think your complaint has more to do with the game-dynamic Predatory, aka: the amount of footwork you have to do lower-level, and with that I agree with you.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
And wgy not it can be ant worse than Mr Bush

    [/ QUOTE ]

4:38pm and you've been at the Birthday Punch already haven't you!
  9. I couldn't agree more. On the upside i like the look of the Mission Architect building interior, the holograms are all wibbly-wobbley and a pretty green colour similar to the apples in my kitchen.
  10. Happy Birthday TheMESS ! - Have a great day!
  11. [ QUOTE ]
So, what things are we expecting? New zones? New AT's? Power Proliferation? Raise the cap to 60? A massive return of old villains such as the 5th Column? (this one at least has been hinted at) Or maybe a whole new villain threat to shock us?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sounds good!, In my opinion CoH really does need to go global to compete with the enviromental diversification seen in Champions!: Moonbase Armstrong/Spacestation Gagarin, Rikti Homeworld, Jungle, Desert, Iceworld, Underwater Kingdom of the Coralax - STAT!
  12. [ QUOTE ]
All I know is that I15 is going to be a make or break issue for me. If it doesn't come through with lots of additional content AND modernizing the game to compete with CO & DCUO, then I think I'll be calling it a day, at least for a while.

I'm not really playing at the moment, I'm barely even logging in and my posting in the forums has reduced a LOT in recent weeks. Effectively I'm taking a break as I'm just burned out on CoH and am waiting to see what NC come up with for the 5th anniversary event (if anything) and I15.

If they don't come through, then there's nothing to stay for, really.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My feelings in a nutshell, (with the addition of a nasty aftertaste from the Austin legal dept) means that for the last couple of months my online activity has dropped right off with regards to CoH. Partly principles, partly boredom, partly a sad sense of resignation that my time is drawing to a close in Paragon and in an MMO I have loved for the last five years.
I'm not even sure story-canon is going to keep me intrigued for long this time around, the game really does need a healthy revitalisation in all the areas we have been asking for in graphics, an audio-revamp, character meshes, and Zonal revamps.

The game is in an awkward position right now, one the Dev-team is perhaps unaware of because they are too-close to the project. You see, Trial-Players coming to this game afresh have years of exciting content and fantastic stories ahead of them, but they have little interest in staying around long enough to experience that, because they are put-off by the ageing graphics, limiting engine, and ageing sound-effects/music. I would love to hear a soundtrack that soared much like the orchestral movements of your favourite superhero film, not the looped titbits of unrelated neighbourhood jingles as you traverse Steel Canyon for example. Compare the music in AoC to CoH and you are talking a quantum-leap in game-immersion.

Paragon will always have a special place in my heart, but I'm no longer convinced about the direction of the game (pvp, seemingly abandoned Hamidon event, static Giant Monster events etc) and the rehashes of content I am picking up on, and that saddens me somewhat.

I'm sure Paragon does have a bright future ahead of it and I'm sure the dev team is working hard on exciting new content, but I fear unless they start addressing what we have been asking them to address...and soon, I'm not sure there will be many veterans around to celebrate the next couple of Anniversarys when there are three other superhero MMOs on the horizon.

I wanted... I want to stay with CoH, I really do... but I'm not going to let that enthusiasm and sense of endearment blind me to the competition if Paragon Studios continues making questionable changes to both the game-content that the community doesn't like and drags its feet on features we've been asking for for years.

Earlier this week, Korea-based NCsoft filed an unpposed motion to transfer the case from Texas to California. Yesterday the judge signed off on the order. It may be significant as outsiders have observed that the Texas district is known for juries that lean towards American plaintiffs.

Either that or the Austen legal team wants to get some surfing in. If so may I recommend the Solana and Avila beaches.

    [ QUOTE ]
    I would disagree.

Nothing in MA is game canon - except inside the writers head.

The fact that is set within a virtual reality environment surely precludes anything in MA from being game canon?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Canon says that anything that happens inside MA is in a Virtual Reality, therefore it never really happened.

If it never really happened, it can never contradict canon.

If it can't contradict canon, it must be canon.

Ergo eveything in the MA is canon.

Right now the witch boots are just god awful hideous cause they give females stupidly large and flat feet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not quite the Arch-Nemesis you were expecting?
  16. [ QUOTE ]
That's a flawed piece of logic. Paragon Studios does game development. Monitoring of the games is done by NCsoft, using people employed specifically as CS staff. Architect doesn't change any of that. They're still developers, and they'll continue developing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats good to hear, however, continued tweaking of architect (much like pvp) is not NCsoft's workload but the Dev's,... like I said, more time invested.

Out of interest... Is it NCsoft Europe or NCsoft stateside that is doing the policing?, or are you working together on it. I just wondered considering the shared EU/US global server for the arcs.

if not isnt that obtaining money by false pretences? otherwise known as fraud?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, Fraud would be a system designed to cheat you out of your money, whereas this is clearly a case of the current system being inadequate and not refined enough to handle all of your transactions with accuracy.

I don't see a case for not getting your money back personally, I wouldn't worry too much. Afterall, NCsoft wants your satisfaction and continued subscription.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Oh please. That's a lame excuse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, personal opinion. Some subscribers do like official PvE content and a continuation of the 'City of' Story over farming missions and Ego-boost arcs. I'm not saying this is 100% of MA, just an awful lot of it at the mo.

But as Avatea has now stated Paragon Studios have no intention of letting up on the official PvE story and Arc-maintanance/policing will be carried out by NCsoft - I can rest assured.
  19. Well, I don't know what emote you are thinking of, but I was talking about the standing one where your character casually dips a teabag in a cuppa handheld by saucer.

Having limited time, personally I prefer to pay for and get official MMO content - not be given the tools to do it myself and told "There you go - unlimited playability!" - because its not the same thing!.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, if only they allowed us to play missions other people created. Instead oh woe is us, we're forced to make missions and play nothing but our own.

You suck Nor Cal. You really should have thought things through.

Emphasis on the word 'official' - usually it means they take small things like story canon into account.
