    Surprising!, but he can do psychotic very well. I'd say that this comment;
    Quote:
"What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."
means possibly a jekyll & hyde duality for the character, and seeing this is high school spidey i'm going with Marvel finally getting the Lizard out there.

The main thrust of my post will be directly contrary to the thread's stated goal, but I think fully in line with the spirit of your request. In short it boils down to the following:

    FOCUS ON GREENSPACES

Most of the parks and greenery (brownery in the Isles?) is basically unplanned and undesigned. Simply a matter of filling some dead space with curbstones, shrubs and trees and moving on to the next area. I won't even get into the ridiculous number of outcrops of rock leading to cave complexes (there's even one in Brickstown with a Parking area UNDER the boulder with a cave door).

Anyway, my point is, take some time to make some planned and designed green spaces that have people using and enjoying them.

Rooftop Gardens would be a cool way to green some urban areas without knocking down current buildings, but even then consider community gardens that are used in big cities to reclaim vacant lots and improve neighborhoods.

Change some big areas in Paragon into Sports Fields instead of rock gardens with weird concrete walls sticking out of them. You gave us Sports emotes, and there are only a couple tired, underused urban basketball courts scattered around Paragon to use them at.

You can even green up the Isles. If people aren't allowed gardens by Recluse, then just have an "exhibition area" with all the new and fun stuff Dr. Aeon has cooked up [Enter at your own Risk. Not responsible for lost pets at plant feeding times]
Thats because way back when Cryptic built these zones it was done on a grid system and it was limiting because of the tech they had to use.

Cities are not planned & built so generically (even after wartime reconstruction) - cities grow almost organically. Sure they can have a general blueprint and plan, but when they are overplanned and kept to that plan (real-world example: Canberra) the city loses something, it's character almost, it's history. A city reflects the story of the people that live in it.
By the time Mercy was constructed for CoV tech had moved on and had different levels height-wise and a more haphazard organic and thrown together urban plan makes the enviroment far more believable as lived-in enviroment. The 'x' factor of believability is not trying to hard to force a look of an enviroment and to throw in age progression, random elements and different cultural neighbourhoods as well such as Chinatowns and other such quarters.

Ambient audio that differs across the zone and different zones also helps massively for immersion.
  4. I would take a duplicate oil rig from Sirens and place it in deep water off off Talos Island.
I would alter it in 3Ds Max so that it is looks a bit more of a scientific research platform.
I would have at it's inner core a large pool with depth markers marking a tunnel plunging down into the dark depths, then via submersible or just plain ole' swimming I'd make this so that going down deep you see the City of the Coralax looming out of the depths.

I'd finish that darn launchpad and get us up to Space station Gagarin and Moonbase Armstrong.

I'd put a ruined Amphitheatre built into the hillside in the Hollows. It would be for all intensive purposes at lower level - just a RP enviroment if needed, but at higher level i would make it so that clicking on an enchanted pillar in the arena took you back in time to before the hollowing and to a time when the Arena was in its prime and you could fight various beasts of increasing difficulty in a tournament.

I'd use Ouroboros to do historical missions properly in the game. Use the lore that we read about in the books and in-game. I want to visit the Isle of Praxidae for the Incarnates TF, I want to visit Eastgate and witness the Hollowing, I want to visit Whitesands before The Rikti saucer crash, I want to see the launch of The Moraine and its ill-fated journey.

In short after 6 years of so of a City of Heroes, i think the franchise can allow itself to explore the wider global enviroments - It doesn't mean we stop being a City of Heroes.
Lets get Tokoyo, Egypt, Antarctica and the a Wakanda-style Jungle complex in there, lets have that zero-G space station, the underwater City of the Coralax, and an underground city at the earths core.

As gorgeous at The new GR zones are, it is more urban sprawl. I'd love to see Ultra-Mode applied to something entirely different.
See Frozen Fire's excellent post: #306 for some ground-breaking architectual examples that could be used for inspiration to populate said new zones.
  5. Yep, everyone knew it i think. The TNG crew should of called it a day after the excellent 'First Contact'.

On the plus side it was exactly what was needed for the revitalisation of the Trek franchise. What a great great movie it is!, what a steller cast they've managed!.
Star Trek XI is my favourite Blu-Ray title at the moment and one hell of a re-imaginning.
JJ.Abrams did an amazing job in my opinion and everything from set design to the great Ben Burtt's input on audio, to Mr Nimoy's participation and blessing has ensured the best possible future for Star Trek.

I just hope we get at least a trilogy from this great cast and personally I would love to see this cast carry a high quality TV series along the lines of the original series. They seem genuinely jazzed about carrying the torch forward, heres hoping!.
  6. My sympathies to those affected by the layoffs. I hope you find positions elsewhere as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I must admit to being slightly confused on the press-release spin though. How can you 'put greater focus on' and 'optimize the refocus' when its your only gig.
I can't see this as just possibly trimming the surplus after GR development because the loss of your senior animation lead doesn't make sense.

Quite frankly I'm suspicious of NCwest re: possible targets / interference and/or timescale demands for the product. Its that kinda thing that pushes otherwise enthusiastic and capable staff to breaking point.

Anyway, thankyou for all your hard work. Good luck Chris and the rest of the recently liberated. Heres hoping opportunties arise for you all asap.
  7. How did i know you were going to say that! >.<

Actually, re: the OP and considering the appeal of StarWars is multi-generational now, I'd go with George sitting in the Emperor's garb stroking his beard and saying to the next generation of blu-ray/3d/hologram consumers ; "It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. You, like your father, are now mine".
  8. Yes theres the Blu-Ray editions coming with addition of Luke sitting in his cave fiddling with his lightsaber bit. You can bet there will also be the Blu-Ray 3D versions released as well following their theatrics.

....then the live action series in blu-ray and blu-ray 3D.

....then the next 3 films following ROTJ in both formats, then the KotoR film in both formats,

...and in the near future when the Japanese have got the 'middle of the room' 3d hologram tech working and commercially priced (yes thats right: hologram broadcast - some student has already developed a test rig demo'ing the tech) - you can bet we'll have the saga unfolding on the very medium R2-D2 demonstrates when playing the 'help me Obi-Wan' message - hows that for eerie.

then the smelli-vision (so real you'll swear you can smell the bantha-poodoo™) tech, then the holodeck tech (would you shoot Greedo first ?™) - In short, be prepared to keep seeing this saga refreshed everytime new technology is released.

I've had enough. I'm perfectly happy with my boxset.
And considering the age of the original trilogy, even though they have been restored, they were not filmed in high def so are not going to be as crystal clear as if they were filmed with todays camera-tech. I've read several reviews that said the Blu-Ray Superman film is barely worth it over the normal remastered dvd re: picture quality.

So yes, sorry George, enoughs enough for this 1080i upscaled luddite. I can catagorically say i won't be replacing any of my StarWars films unnecessarily.

    This is Krypton!

Loving both 300 and Watchmen I'm ok with Zach having a stab at the Superman franchise.
I'll be brutally honest though and say that I am far more comfortable knowing that it is Chris Nolan who ok'd him as director and will be godfathering the project.

Seems to me we get the best of Snyders imaginative work tempered by the masterful slant of Nolans approach. Colour me interested.

  10. I really like the retro-prototype I version (they've got that iron man mk I feel) with that bulky actuator on the back and windy-cranking noises.

The Prototype 2.0s are a good improvement though. I think its really interesting to see the actual inventor's workshop and bench in this video.

Plenty of hoverboard videos (both real and fake) on youtube. The only ones capable of carrying any substantial weight though are not skateboard size but essentially mini-hovercrafts. Theoretically you could do it with superconductors and magnets like the maglev trains, but then again you would have to have magnets imbedded in the ground and be comfortable riding a liquid nitrogen-cooled deathtrap.

I love the fact that she took this on and made it real though!, I don't know if Nike has approached her or not, i mean they are not short of cash and could help by donating a % of sales towards arthritis research.

The ones in the movie are quite a bit faster though aren't they, i mean in lacing tight in an instant. I've always thought it would be quite funny if you got your fingers caught in the laces if you tried to put both feet in at once as you'd keel over with your fingers caught in the shoes. I also thought the lacing up would start near the toes, i mean who ties their ankles tight before securing their feet?.... still, authentic to the movie and all that.

Isn't it the 30th anniversary of BTTF this year?, maybe Nike will have these Nike McFlys in production for the 40th.

    Let me in

I know of people whom after watching the crappy 'Clash of the Titans' remake specifically went out, rented, watched and then bought on Blu-Ray the original 1982 masterpiece in preference.

    Its much better.

    Let me in

I'd say the Authors participation in this redux saves it from being filed under the typical 'lazy Hollywood' remakes catagory. Sounds authentic in tone and vision, and if he the Author is happy who am i to argue.

I'll draw the line at Bollywood's musical interpretation 'Let the right naan in' though.

Lol ! - thats truely terrible ! - I sincerely hope advertising never gets so rampantly out of control like that so looking up at the moon smacks of branding. Urrgh!.

I still think Britain should of got to the moon first though and left little woollen Clangers to confuse you Americans, maybe furnished little footsteps leading back to a crater, some brass wreckage and a recording of Clanger song.
  14. Seeing as though we are talking about CGI in the context of superheroes i'll point out this sneaky little cross-forum link (because theres no way i'm reposting all these links. ) - Zbrush is incredible (and you don't need to rig the model with a skeleton to pose or animate).

Nuff' said, see post #69 and the links highlighted throughout for case studies of superhero competition goodness..

If they are going with the Smallville type of tv show then they could still allude to it with amazon mythology, maybe an amazonian artefact or something or herald that could speak of royalty being dispatched to help Mankind.... that kinda thing.

I don't think anything like that is planned for season 10 though. that said they could juryrig something together to link to it, i mean, DC is following Marvels lead re: a continuity and shared universe in its portfolio of characters.

Again, from the point of view of people on Earth it would take 22 years. But only six for the people on the ship.

And note that six years of constant 1 G acceleration is far beyond anything our technology is capable of, right now. Just because the trip is possible doesn't mean we can start today.
Science is also hard at work on extending human lifespans and also our latent talent for hibernation that all humans (except students ) have evolved out of and forgotten. It lays dorment within us and may hold the key to longer space-travel.

Whats also interesting is who decides who gets what?, i mean.... The Chinese are emerging as the next superpower and have plans for a manned moon mission far in advance of NASA.
How is this going to work?, first there to stake a claim a'la ole' pioneer ways in the new world (America)?, - because this time it really will be the new world.

Whats stopping nations grabbing land that is the most strategically placed landmasses for defence?, or has the most resources? - or will we be so spoilt for worlds that each Nation (if we are still using the seperate nations model) or religious denominations that will have their own world(s) in their own system?.

I think if we went to the stars in our present state with everything we let divide us today, it would just be a case of a matter of time before distant cousins of humanity found an excuse to pick a fight. Sadly.

We're just too wasteful, too proud, too.... human.

Its going to be your points 2,3 and 4 that finally gets us to the point that means we eventually have to get our ship together. Maybe that lazy 20th century infinite resources attitude will change over the next hundred years, if we don't get off our homeworld - its got too really.

All the projections point to our planet being able to comfortably support 5-6 billion, possibly a tad more if we were better organised and the enviroment doesn't change drastically. 9 billion or heaven forbid 12 billion as some of these 2050 projections forecast would be the global crashpoint.
Oils got a couple of (very pricey) decades left, before we are disregarding treatys & r@ping Antarctica for all she's worth. If that happens all bets are off because the oil won't disperse if we screw up at that latitude.

I fully expect we are living in the last two-to-three generations where things are going to be remotely recognisable. You read those sci-fi writers who paint the future 200 years from now as that type of scavenging sci-fi western scene with animals pullling vehicle chassis as everyday transport and communities are highly mobile. I can see that.

I can also see (i hope anyway) us having the foresight to master green technologies and buy us a little time to establish basic colonies on the Moon and Mars.
If we can stop fighting one another long enough to do that and get to the point where we can mine from the asteroid belt then our troubles would be eased because why r@pe Earth for minerals when there are asteroids out there with enough ore in them for anything we could ever want, literally... everest-sized chunks of titanium, gold and iron all floating around just beyond our reach enough for building entire colonies and fleets of ships.

I'd love to see into the future to see what is achieved. I'm sure It would either be absolutely heartbreaking or make you very proud and relieved.
  18. Seeing as though the 21st Century is set to be the age of Biotechnology, some experts have said it would possibly be easier to adapt Man to the destination's enviroment rather than the other way around.

Thus in the future we could have different varieties and cousins of the original Human species colonizing space. Those strange hard-skinned tri-eyelid humans from windswept dustworld, the gilled and web-fingered waterworld Humans from the marine planet, the hulking muscular humans from dense gravity world all round a stretcher talking to the thin and delicate ambassador from light gravity gasworld - all together having a party, an anniversary-bash and commonwealth of humans.

Be one hell of a party!. I imagine racism would be dead by then.... or maybe not knowing our track record. *rolls eyes*
  19. I'd love to see an homage to the funk-tastic 70's themetune in a tv series. Maybe Diana in trailing a suspect to a nightclub where its 70's night and the tune is playing with dancers spinning round with their arms outstetched.

Kinda like how the old Spidey tune was paid homage to in Raimi's Spiderman 2 with the Chinese female busker plucking away on the violin to the 70's spiderman tv theme and Peter Parker looking at her with a bemused expression.
  20. My advice to anyone who wanted to learn 3DS Max or Maya would be to get the reduced price Autodesk Education Suite ($199 i think) which has full versions of 3DS Max, Maya, Mudbox and Softimage in it (amongst other stuff) available from the Autodesk site.
You can use it to learn the software in conjunction with those sites i mentioned.

You have to be registered as on a college course for a certain amount of hours per week to qualify (part-time & evening classes qualify too). Other than that the commercial full price of both Max ($3,495) & Maya ($4,995) are ridiculously expensive.

Shame Blender isn't used more in industry, but like i said... once industry standards are set in stone for a good long while (like Max for games & architectectual visualisation & Maya for Animation) and artists have spent years learning the software, it takes an enormous amount of innovation and price penetration to get them out of their entrenched positions as far as those being the industry standards.

As far as expectations go; from scratch and knowing nothing about 3ds Max you could probably get to about this capable in an academic year. Makes Blur Studio's 3ds max work on the 'Decieved' and 'Hope' sw:tor trailers seem a long way off doesn't it. =D
  21. Yes, but the difference was it was not her job that was on the line.... it was all about pleasing Steve because she wuved him and genuinely fretted about letting him down.

I want to see something more akin to the build-up of the Kingdom Come Diana. A proper Amazonian princess with a clear mission.

I'm not laying the blame soley on the male writers, the blame is at the feet of Seventies culture that was regressed enough to have a mighty Amazon warrior princess reduced to a character who was often found fretting over whether she could juggle her heroic duties and pleasing steve back at the office in her cover identity - it was quite pathetic to behold at times.
A new shows got to move on from all that cliche' nonsense.
