Quote:Quite possible.Apparently you and I are talking about two different things.
I used this. It was the first thing in a Google search. -
Quote:I tried it on my VM, and it worked...Have you tried the TightVNC Viewer app to see if it will work?
It wasn't pretty. During installation (GNU version, if that matters) about five "Access Denied (Error code 5)" windows popped up, so something isn't working right.
But it did install, and I was able to use it to connect to one of my Linux boxes.
Haven't checked the reverse, or on anything with serious security. -
If your rig can actually run CoH (I am doubtful, but here's to hoping), I bet it isn't running at minimum graphics.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any way to change graphics settings without getting into the game first.
So... What I would suggest is try booting the game into Safe Mode:
Start Launcher > Right Click "City of Heroes" > Properties > check the box at the bottom of the new window "launch in safe mode." (Follow the same instructions, but uncheck the box to stop launching into safe mode.) Press "Okay."
Once you are in the game, assuming this works, make one of your first stops:
Menu > Options > Graphics and Audio tab, and reduce graphics to minimum. -
Since the deed is looking to be done later today, odds are this suggestion won't help much.
But another alternative is something like this to give you IDE compatibility (plus a bit more). -
I forget which one doesn't work right for pet emotes with other actions... Either macros or binds...
Ideally, if it works it would be:
/macro <Macroname> "petsay_all <em dance9>$$ em dance9"
I am also not sure of the timing.
If that doesn't work, you might need to make a keybind instead. -
Thank you for posting this.
It doesn't do me a bit of good directly, but every helpful post to keep the game running a smooth as possible is appreciated. -
First, you are using an ATI card. Some of the recent past drivers weren't playing nice with CoH.
What drivers set are you using? If it is between 11.5 and 11.8, I'd strongly recommend trying the 11.9 released just yesterday. -
Nothing helpful in this post, sorry.
It seems this is becoming the nVidia problem the crashes were for AMD/ATI... :-S -
Just to add another data point:
Firefox 6.0.2 works fine. -
Belief doesn't even play into it.
If this suggestion was implemented it would stop... No. Wait. That is wrong. It would curb the series of questions and / or support tickets along the lines of "I should be a Premium account, and yet my Master Account says it is only Free. What is up with that?"
Or "I bought $X in points, how can I tell if I am actually Premium?"
Also, if this suggestion was implemented, and a Premium player checked their Master Account and it said "Free," they would know something isn't registering correctly and can try to get it rectified. -

If you mean just finding the main window?
At character selection, at the top, off center to the left, there is a"Reward Token" icon. Click on that.
In game, click on Menu > Paragon Rewards.
If you mean actually using them in that window?
Click on the spot you want to spend the token. -
There have been quite a few people confused as to what their account should be, versus what they are "seeing" it as.
This will resolve itself some what as players get familiar with how each account behaves, and as kinks get worked out.
But adding a "Premium" account type will help in verifying how things are working even after that. -
That is disheartening. :-S
Seeing as how the issue of difficulty of determining what status your account is has been brought up many times before (mostly in-game), I would think this would be a relatively simple (as opposed to redesigning the game UI) solution...
Off to the Suggestion forum for me. -
Just trying a different tact
Quote:If none of the "common solutions" have cured your problems, I would suggest posting your Hijack This logs. Also, your CoH Helper results would be good too, since the odds of you running the same system as Stonewall Jackson are slimI have the same problem, it either sticks at the loading stripe but more often than not the loading strip disappears and the game doesn't load.
I have tried all the suggestions on this page but still have the issue although it always loads from safe mode.
My Nvidia drivers are up to date.
In the meantime, some things you can try:
- If you are the kind of person that does not shut down their computer every night (no judgements, there are pros and cons either way), you might try a cold boot. Shutdown your computer. After it has completely powered down, give it a good 10 seconds (at least) and power it back up.
- If you are running any anti-virus/anti-malware programs, you can try updating them and scanning your computer.
- If you aren't running any anti-virus/anti-malware programs, I would highly recommend you do so. Even if you don't use their "live" or "active" settings, just having them to run every once in a while is a good thing.

I don't have a premium account to verify, but wouldn't the Account Type: section of her master account say?
It says Free for my free account, and VIP for my VIP account. I would hope it says Premium for premium accounts. (And if it doesn't, I post that as a suggestion.) -
All of my suggestions are being pulled pulled from this thread.
- Make sure there isn't a instance of the launcher already running (In the Task Manager make sure there isn't a copy of NCSoftLauncher in the Applications tab, or NCLauncher in the processes tab).
- If your Launcher is set to automatically start up with Windows, try unchecking that option. (File > Settings and uncheck "Automatically run the Launcher at Windows startup.")
- Set your launcher to close after launching the game (File > Settings > In the drop down under "After launching a game" select "exit launcher."
- Delete the "addcache.xml" file in your CoH directory.
- The most likely solution: "I would like to have the graphic shader files rebuilt on your system. To do so, please delete the "CoX" folder located, by default, at "C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\NCSoft" and try launching City of Heroes again. If you are unable to see this folder, you may have "Show hidden files and folders" disabled." (Sent to the poster having trouble in that thread from support.)
Any one of those has helped others that have had trouble with the launcher stopping at the "Loading" bar. -
Quote:If you are happy with the way the game plays now (with the 10.2ish drivers), I would say don't bother updating.I'm still using something like 10.2. Anything newer than that just broke the game, permanently. Would you/folks advise rolling all the way forward to 11.9? I'm kind of afraid to try it, because it took so long to get things fixed the last time...
I do believe it would work for you... But if you are comfortable where you are at, no need to risk it.
If you aren't particularly happy with where your gaming is at now, I do recommend trying the update. -
UPDATE:
I've just passed the two hour mark with the 11.9 drivers with Vertical Sync turned on without any crashes. (In other words, my graphics are as they were before the driver troubles started with 11.5)
I would feel confident recommending these to any who were having troubles before.
Frame rate can get a little sluggish with V Sync on in an outdoor map (sub 30 fps with hovering between 18ish and 24ish being common) but that is nothing new to me from before 11.5. -
Quote:Just a quick request: Does this stand for Reward Tokens as well? I suspect so, but checking for clarity. As existing VIP subscribers, when the City of Heroes Freedom™ Head Start began, your game accounts automatically received credit for being active in September, as your first month of having VIP status. Paragon Points were awarded on the date Head Start began, instead of on your monthly billing date.
Going forward from October you will receive your Paragon Points on your game account's billing date as long as you maintain VIP status. -
Quote:No. I am claiming restricting free accounts from /tell for the sole purpose of preventing RMTers isn't effective - for preventing RMTers. You claimed having one /tell spam in a year shows that the restrictions weren't effective?
Yes, it keeps most players private messages clear. But it doesn't prevent RMTers.
Now, if free accounts are restricted from /tell to keep other players private messages section clear, then it is working as intended.
If it was done just to prevent RMters, it isn't working as intended. -
Quote:In reverse order:And yet the fact remains that /tell spam has been eliminated by the restrictions. So while you can believe whatever you like the truth is the restrictions work and won't be removed.
I wasn't asking for them to be removed.
/tell spam hasn't been eliminated due to the restrictions, reduced sure, nearly eliminated, okay. I have received one (admittedly only one) /tell spam in my game time here. Then I started using the hide from searches command.
If you want to believe it fixed everything, go right ahead. I'm not going to try and stop you.
Sure. They do not have to buy their own accounts here. (Hacked/forged credit cards to get direct game time, or to buy time cards.)
