    WIR? (Spoilers)

My honest opinion is that people are looking for a problem to get riled up about. Stuff happens to characters, other characters react to said stuff, and whether or not any of them are female should really be more of an afterthought, if it's even considered at all.

Furthermore, that WIR list is fairly pointless in my book. You can't trot out a highly selective list and say "look at how bad this is" without giving any sort of contrast.
  2. Probably my main problem with the Heroside arc (besides the fact that Paragon Studios needs a new proofreader and spellchecker, by the way my rates are very reasonable) is the setup. Marshall Blitz calls for a ceasefire for no discernible reason, and wants a specific civilian to negotiate said ceasefire on his turf under his terms? I mean there's optimism, and then there's "heroic stupidity", but that one is just....wow.

Unless there's more to it than I gathered, I don't see how anyone could possibly be stupid enough to walk into a situation like that.
  3. Well prices are in, and as usual things seem uncomfortably high.

120 for the Autumnal path aura vs 80 for regular auras. See my previous post for my opinion on pricing of path auras vs regular, I still disagree with these costing more.

Mako's Bite set is 450 on 50% sale, meaning 900 at other times. At that price, I'm not sure I have an issue with it anymore, since it's so crazy that only the really desperate and/or loaded people will buy them. It does make me wonder about the AT specific IO sets, if they're sold in the store what kind of insane price are they going to go for? Already, 900 is $11.25, which is getting awfully close to the cost of a month's subscription at full month-by-month price. I shudder to think about where we go from here.

To be honest, the costume creator really needs a better way to display path auras. It's something I've thought before I saw this new Autumn path aura, but nothing quite highlights it as badly as this does. That aura is just so....busy....that it's impossible to get a feel for how it would look in game with actual movement.

I'm not necessarily saying it looks bad, I'm saying I have no idea how it looks because, well...everything obscures everything else and all I see is a knee high pile of leaf-like objects.
  5. My feedback on the items in question from a VIP perspective:

Like our previous enhancement offerings, these Rare IOs cannot be boosted, are account bound and attuned and they will level with you, within their level ranges. We're going to be watching these items closely as they represent another convenience vs. time offering and we're interested in their reception. We'll let you know about pricing tomorrow, however this initial offering will be at 50% off of their normal price, both individually for those of you who like to mix and match for your builds and as a bundled set.
Dubious about the precedent it's going to set. As for store bought IOs in general, I'm not sure that "non-boostable" is much of a drawback, considering that boosting costs extra and has a miniscule effect on performance. The exemplar bonus as detailed by Liquid already outweighs the non-boostable penalty, IMHO, and I'm concerned that store bought IOs will actually be the superior choice for a majority of game content.

I don't understand the rationale behind charging more for a path aura when they are mutually exclusive with regular auras and not really any different in terms of overall aesthetics. This also goes for the auras available on the Incarnate vendors. They might be more work from a technical standpoint (although I don't know, just guessing), but if so I don't think that translates well into in-game impact, and I don't really think it should be a consideration for price points. To me it seems like they're just arbitrarily more expensive.
  6. So I guess what I want to know is, has anyone actually bought inspirations from the store? I don't mean getting them via veteran rewards, I mean looking at the store itself and saying "yes, 120 seconds of slightly-better-ness is worth that price".

You can use terms like "learning curve" if you like, but this is the kind of thing you really shouldn't need a live market experiment to learn.
  7. Seeing as the developers are apparently receptive to a few tweaks for the UGT I thought I might bump this old thread in the hopes that it can get some attention. It seems that #3 has already been covered in the last patch, giving a reward table after the Lichen Infested War Walker, but #1 and #2 are still IMHO very legitimate concerns.

I really want to stress #2, the Confuse makes for an incredibly frustrating fight. Every league I've been on with UGT has either been able to stack enough Clarion/Tactics to render it basically meaningless, or they've been completely destroyed by the confusion and haven't even come close to finishing the trial.
  8. As I said in the previous thread when some costume powers went "on sale", I'd maybe spend 50 cents on one of those, possibly up to a dollar for the rare/exclusive ones if I desperately wanted them for a concept, but that's about all they're worth to me. $6 is better than $10 but they're still going to have to try harder.

In my eyes they're pretty much equivalent to a single costume piece, and when bundles of costume pieces clock in at 400 points, I just can't justify the asking price.
  9. Tangent on the history of "FREEEM"...the first time I came across it was the CoH April Fools joke with the "visual sounds", but the other day when the servers were down I tried a certain competing super-hero MMO for the first time. During the finale of the tutorial there is a part where you team up with one of their signature heroes to take down a villain, and I noticed a "FREEEM" bubble above his head when he was charging up some sort of big beam move.

I don't know much about the game in question so I don't know how widespread that is, but I was wondering which came first? Or perhaps neither of them came first and they were both pilfered from a third source which I haven't come across yet?

    Helpful URL

As for something on topic, I think there might need to be some overhauls in the process for logging bug fixes and patch notes, because since Freedom launched there have been a lot of discrepancies between what is reported as fixed and what is actually fixed.

How fast can the devs release sets at a time to make everyone happy? The answer is, "not fast enough"
I just want to say I'm not complaining, I'm not being overly dramatic and saying "devs hate non-melee", I'm not calling doom or anything like that. I'm a fairly universal player, and I play melee characters too - in fact the only powersets I have no characters for are certain Blaster and Dominator secondaries. I bought Street Justice on day one, and I'm still looking forward to both of the upcoming melee sets.

It's just an odd situation in my eyes when we've had information about five new powersets (Time, Beam, Street Justice, Titan Weapons, Staff Melee) and over half of them fall into the same category. You might say it's illegitimate to look for a trend in only five powersets, but when I consider that Going Rogue had four brand new powersets then nothing for a year, five powersets seems a lot more significant to me.

All I'm really asking is whether I missed any information, or whether they're focusing more on the melee ATs. It does make business sense to focus on the most popular ATs, and the point that melee sets reach more ATs than any other type (besides their defense counterparts) is legitimate. If you have limited resources it's clearly the easiest option to make the most people happy. It's just that you can't assume that X new powersets will make everyone happy regardless of their type.
  12. For the most part, Desdemona doesn't require so much babysitting as to leave her out of the fights entirely. As long as people stick together you should have no trouble keeping her alive through the fights.

Also, Self Destruct functions beautifully as Desdemona repellant if you happen to be so inclined.
  13. I suppose one thing I neglected to mention is that Staff Melee was never "officially" announced. The video was leaked, and otherwise all I've heard about it was before BAB left, when he mentioned that it would take a lot of work (ie. neither confirming nor denying).

I guess there's a possibility there are other unnanounced sets in the Staff Melee timeframe that they've been able to keep under wraps. The main reason I posted the thread in the first place is that melee already has a ton of options, which makes the choices some ATs have look pretty slim by comparison, and the only information we have is about more melee.
  14. Just wondering because as far as I can tell we haven't heard of anything besides Titan Weapons and Staff Melee, both of which look very nice (and I'll probably make use of them) but it's showering attention on a few ATs and leaving the rest out in the cold. Dominators in particular, but also Masterminds and Controllers haven't even had a whiff of a new primary since Going Rogue launched over a year ago.

All I've heard is "something in the future for Dominators", which is vague and to be honest probably shouldn't need to be said - in a subscription game it doesn't really change the baseline expectation. There was also someone on Exalted help channel talking about a "Gunslinger" single pistol powerset that would be launched alongside the costume pieces, they seemed fairly convinced but I haven't heard anything about it elsewhere so assume it was just wishing/speculation.

So did I miss something, or do we really have no solid information for the ones among us who prefer the non-melee ATs?
  15. The new Vampire face for females is quite possibly the ugliest thing I've ever seen in the character creator. If that's what they were going for then grats, you nailed it, but that doesn't make it any less ugly.
  16. Frilled Ascot seems horribly broken, it's under Detail 2 for head (ie. neck) but it appears up in the air behind your head. Also mildly disappointed that there are "Fish Monster" head, hands and feet pieces but no body or legs to go along with them. I'm sure I can make do, just...mildly disappointed.
  17. Well there's two new categories in heads available right now, "Think Tank" (aka brain-in-a-jar) and "Piranha". Not sure if there's anything else new, that was all I spotted
  18. Thanks for the build, I'll play around with it and see if I can come up with something workable for Elec Melee.
  19. So I've been messing around with various Elec/Elec brute builds, but to be honest I'm not very familiar with Brute IO builds in general, or Elec specifically. I have an Elec/Elec brute in SOs/generic IOs who does fairly well but as he nears 50 I'm a little lost as to what I should be building towards. Specifically:

    1. How close to softcap defense is "enough" for a brute? I'm looking for a build that leans more towards offense (ie. recharge), but is capable of tanking most things in the game with support. Being able to step up to tank at least BAF/Lambda with a full (competent) league is kind of the benchmark I want.
    2. I know Energize can be perma with enough recharge but I'm wondering if it's worth it? I'm thinking not, but the most similar character I have is a Fire/Fire tanker so I get a bit concerned when I don't have a heal that comes up quickly.
    3. Assuming I go for a high recharge build, which attacks are skippable? I was looking at Jacob's Ladder and Thunder Strike as potential skips, but I'm not sure if that would leave me with holes in my attack chain. Thunder Strike in particular is a big question mark, since I've always hated the long animation but I don't know if I would have enough AoE without it.

As far as budget goes, assume that anything short of PvP IOs is fair game, but my out-of-game budget isn't the best so I would prefer not to do anything that required Boosters to meet a goal.
  20. Is there any official or in-game backstory to Lady Grey? I've read most of the RWZ arcs, and the little information gleaned from Ramiel's arc, but there really doesn't seem to be anything there. She's made out to be "Kind of a Big Deal" but official information is sparse, so in the end she's just kind of mysterious for the sake of being mysterious. And if there's one thing I hate it's people being needlessly mysterious.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. For anyone else having the same issue, the above seemed to work for me - via Ouroboros you can't directly go to Lt. Harris, but duoing with a non-VEAT and having them flashback to Kuzmin's arc gave my VEAT credit for finishing it, and I was able to personally start Dr Weber (or I assume Fire Wire) and eventually get to Harris and the badge.
  22. So my Fortunata has been my dedicated main since the inclusion of the Incarnate content, currently running as a Rogue. Just recently I've been going for Flashbacks to get the new badges, I managed to get all of Dr. Graves' badges without incident, but Freedom Cracker (for completing Lt. Harris' arc) is giving me issues.

    1. Lt. Harris shows up in the Ouroboros list, but attempting to start his arc gives the following message:
    Quote:
You and everyone on your team must not have Lt.Harris's story arc as an active arc, must have completed Dr. Weber or Fire Wire's arc, and be over level 7 to begin his flashback.
    2. Dr. Weber and Fire Wire generate a similar error message, directing you to Operative Kuzmin.
    3. Operative Kuzmin says:
    Quote:
Speak with Alan Desslock first. You are dismissed!
    4. Alan Desslock does not appear in the Ouroboros list at all, and if I talk to him in person he tells me we've got nothing more to do with one another, since I finished all the VEAT arcs ages ago.
    5. Possibly unrelated, but the only VEAT arcs that show up in Ouro are Brick Johnson's, in the 45-50 range, both showing as completed.

So yeah, any ideas? It's not a huge deal either way, since I'm mostly just a casual badge hunter and if I can't get this badge then I'm not too concerned, I just thought I'd ask in case there was a known workaround.

So while I like them, and that they are in the store, I am still going to save my points.
Same with me pretty much...I'm not saying they're not quality pieces, but in my eyes they're so niche that I really can't think of a use for them.
  24. There is not. It's fairly high on my wishlist too, actually.

There is a "Gunslinger" set coming Soon(tm) but I don't know if it includes a poncho.
  25. /bugged it in game but I thought I should post here too in case one of them gets missed. With a Female or Huge character using the Celestial Rifle, the AR shots generate from the air beside you instead of the gun barrel. This also applies to the personal blasts from the Mercenaries primary for MMs.

Male body types appear to be unaffected.
