Quote:I found dark/dark to be underwhelming...so underwhelming that I deleted the character and re-rolled, mainly due to the fact that /dark is a blapper set and I hate blapping. So, based on what I'm reading, I should expect great things from my Dark/Dark blaster I created last night?
I rerolled the character as dark/energy...and am *much* happierI have both Aim *and* Build Up, now...you think either one of those is good? try firing off a sniper attack with them stacked!

Quote:Can you recommend a particular shiny in the current market? the tried and true LOtG was down around 50 mil last time I looked (at work so I can't look) Admittedly I'm a horrible marketeer, but I'm willing to learnAll you guys: you know the standard ways to make a quick 50 or 100 million or 200 million inf, right? (for instance, running 10 tips plus an alignment tip, then "Who Will Die 1" twice back to back, gets you two Alignment Merits. Turn those in for one or two shinies, craft the shiny, sell it on the market. I don't know what the current shinies are. Then buy another AM with the fifty RMs you got for running the tips.)

A team I was on recently was plagued with this issue. Now, I have no idea if this ist he right answer, but one of the folks suggested it was triggered by using a terminal after PO has already reached 500. when we all got back in and re-tried, explicit instructions were given to leave the terminals alone once we hit 500 - lo and behold, we completed the trial without a hitch.
As I said before I have *NO* idea if this is the trigger or not - but it's one theory currently circulating around our server. Hope it helps! -
This is true - I have yet to have the pleasure of dealing with the trials and tribulations of youngsters...sadly this will likely make my comment slightly less humorous that I originally believed it to be. oh well. I'll just have to sharpen my wit on another thread...I'll see you there!

Well...
As an acknowledged base-building newb myself, I would be delighted and deeply honored to assist you in your honorable quest to destroy as much Inf as humanly possible...look me up, we'll do lunch -

I originally posted this in the Beta Forums in response to a suggestion on how to increase the availability of Catalysts - I decided re-posting here would also make sense, and generate useful discussion:
Quote:I think I understand the heart of this issue, and may have a viable workaround for it, provided the devs are open to such things.
The issue lies with the fact that the only simple way to force Catalysts to be an Incarnate-only drop was to code them as Incarnate Salvage, which is character-bound and not-tradeable or mail-able for previously established "good reasons" (which I'm sure have been justified elsewhere, so I'm not going to go into them here)
The work-around is to do the same thing with these as was done with Threads and Empyrean Merits - enable the purchase of a voucher redeemable for 1 Catalyst on any character for 40 (or whatever price they like) Empyreans - (Hmm...isn't that the form they come in already from Super Packs?) - this should be some extremely low-hanging fruit, should our Devs be open to solving this problem.
So, there it is - Please, discuss -
Quote:Ahh, so that sounds like a plan then. Shields would definitely make them less squishy, and with a healer I could certainly help keep them up. Wouldn't really handle the agro well though. Any thoughts on that? They both have holds but their problem seems to be when they get ganked, which happens quite often.
They really aren't very good with blasters... LOL ...Still, they don't wanna give them up cause they're so close to 50.
So I'm leaning more towards a Healer/Protector classed character I guess. I'm so used to being a tank or blaster.
So...used to playing a blaster, but wants to play a healer...
*ponders*
I know...Play a Corruptor - they're a decent hybridization of the two, and should give you what you need
as for powersets, that gets a little dicey, but I'm partial to /Therm myself...it's a decent hybridization itself of buff/heals, and pairs nicely with Fire for some thematic roastiness

Obligatory Wiki Link
That page is somewhat out of date, but you should get everything listed under the Versions section for the Complete Collection, except the 2 free character slots - sadly those went away with the launch of Freedom
EDIT - see Snow Globe's far more detailed list above -

excellent spreadsheet, but you may want to correct the listings for Purples and PvP recipes - specifically, you've got their Empyrean Merit prices listed in the Astral Merit column

Quote:It does not.If you're using Stealth from the Concealment Pool (I can't remember if that can activate with Mask Presence)...
the only source of additional stealth that *will* work with mask presence is a Stealth IO...like the Celerity I have in Sprint that when stacked with Mask Presence lets me stand right next to the bad guys and make raspberries at them with impunity -
Quote:this is it in a nutshell...with a minor tweakMask Presence, as an invis power loses half it's defense value when stealth suppresses. Works just like Invisibility, Superiority Invisibility and so forth......
If you look at the detailed description of the Mask presence power, you'll see 2 values for each defense Value - on mine these are 3.75% and 7.5% - the former is always on, the latter is only valid when stealthed - it's not half of the value that drops when you enter combat - it's that second value, which you obviously have enhanced up closer to 8% than mine -
From what I've seen anecdotally thusfar, it appars these drop like purples...except unlike purples, you can *only* get them in Incarnate Content

Quote:I have a set of 5 Attuned LOTG +Rech enhancements I bought when they were on sale, which I keep in my mailbox. Once I've decided that a new character is worth levelling to 50, those come out and get slotted at lvl 22, to assist with the levelling process...once the character reaches 50 and is respecced into their permanent build, the attuned enhancements come out and go back in the mailbox, to be replaced with the real thing, and become available for the next character. Thanks for that distinction; at least they keep the set bonuses down to their minimum level less three -- which is the part I find critical.
Do many people actually buy them at minimum level, and level up with them? I've never bothered with them until the character was level 50 and I was confident I was going to keep it. On the way up, I tend to Frankenslot whatever I find or get cheaply. For me, attuned enhancements are much more valuable due to their exemping down better than a max level normal set IO, and not because they level up with me.
Totally not relevant to the discussion I know, but I felt the need to answer this question, as I personally find the strategy extremely useful in making levelling easier, as well as ensuring I'm only levelling one alt at a time, hehe -
The root of this issue (which has been discussed since time immemorial, but I'm bringing up here for the benefit of our newer players) is that the game was originally designed without any PvP at all.
Yes, you heard correctly. An MMO completely built from the ground up with only PvE as the intended mode of play. I won't go into the long and storied discussions of the reasons for this, but suffice it to say it was the brainchild of a certain notorious developer who shall remain nameless and whose in-game namesake is no longer with us (RIP).
PvP was added after-the-fact, based on rather vocal requests for it from the playerbase. But, as a result of it never having been meant to be included in the game's engine in the first place, and patched in as an afterthought, it has NEVER worked as intended...EVER.
Sure, there are some who enjoy PvP in this game, and more power to them...but for the vast majority, the system is and always has been horribly broken in one way or another - despite the bandaid, on top of bandaid, on top of bandaid, ad nauseam - that we've had to try to make it work.
So there you have it. I'm certain some of my rather strong opinions expressed above may draw fire from certain quarters...but before engaging the flamethrowers please bear in mind that all of the above is my opinion only (with the exception of the documented facts) - as always, "Your Mileage May Vary™" -
I ended up slotting the set of this on my Night Widow in place of Obliteration in Spin. So far the results have been extremely positive, and I haven't even used any catalysts yet! The set bonuses are nothing to sneeze at, and the proc does a wonderful job at both damage mitigation and keeping the mobs next to me for continued destruction. So far I give it two thumbs up!

Catalysis, noun - the process of speeding up or causing a reaction, accent on second syllable
Say no to: Catalytizing, catalystizing, catalyzation, and catalytization. They are not the right forms.
Catalyst, noun - the thing causing the reaction, accent on first syllable
Catalyze (catalyzing, catalyzed), verb - to cause catalysis to happen, accent on first syllable
Catalytic, adj. - pertaining to catalysis, accent on first syllable.

Quote:Admittedly it's a bit of a pain, but you can easily mail the ATO's from your other characters (on the same account) to said Blaster, Catalyze them, then mail them back. In theory you can just get catalysts for all your characters on that one blasterblah blah blah... after my blaster gets all 6 ATOs upgraded, any future catalyst drops he receives will be literally useless, until / unless future ATO sets are released...blah blah blah...
EDIT: corrected spelling to satisfy the Grammar Police, and to concede that yes, this is incorrect information -
Quote:The recharge bonus for un-catalyzed DoA, 5-pieces, is 8.75% - which as far as I know is unique and as such will totally avoid the Rule of 5. However the catalyzed set has bonuses equivalent to a purple set (10% Rech, etc.) - meaning possible Rule of 5 issues if you have a lot of Purples already.Based on other threads that have discussed it, I don't think there is huge enthusiasm for it. The effects of the proc seem pretty modest. Some people will want it just to squeeze a few extra percentage points out of every power. A lot of people seem to be eyeing the set as a replacement for Positron's Blast. Crabs in particular can easily bump into the Rule of Five (for 6.25% Recharge bonuses) if they have a few ranged AoE attacks and some pets.
Quote:I'm debating if i will get rid of one of my 5 Purple sets i have, namely Absolute Amazement in my Omega Maneuver. (C'mon, don't say i'm the only one who thought of that.)
The only thing that's really stopping me are the fact that even when i get the SATO, i'll loose 4% Rec (Currently 3.5%/Sec), and 2.52% Fire/Cold resist (Currently 54.35%), while I'll gain 32HP (Currently 1522HP/ 2139HP w/Serum ) and 4% Damage (Currently 44.5%/ 94.5%w/Aim). Recharge time (100%) and Accuracy (1.83x, 105%ToHit) will stay the same.
I use my Omega mostly on big mobs, it stuns them for a good 17 seconds, giving me time to kill some, and injure most. If i place a damaging set in there, i might cause more damage with the blast, but they'll also get stun for a shorter amount of time, meaning i could get a bigger angry mob attacking me.
Anyone wanna pitch in their two cents?
However if you don't catalyze, and replace a non-purple set, then it's a win, as I believe the bonuess are unique to the set and won't violate the Rule of 5 no matter what else you slot in your build. -
The short answer is that there is nothing currently in-game that is "like" the DFB Trial. The trial was brand new for Issue 21, and is the first of its type.
A new trial called "Drowning in Blood" is slated for Issue 22 that will be similar in that it is accessed through the Team-Up Teleporter for characters level 15+
Until then, I agree with DreadShinobi in that Task/Strike Forces are an excellent way to go -
Quote:Interesting...stealth-buff to the power on Beta, perhaps? I wouldn't complain, as the lolsauce -150hp is one of my biggest complaints about an otherwise stellar power...I'll have to go do some testing...Are we basing this on live numbers? I was testing this on Beta a few nights ago since its easy to get the T4 powers there. I tested on Pylons, PI giant monsters, and AVs in custom arcs. I Was monitoring the numbers very closely and I was seeing procs of -900 to -1000 hp. At the 4 stack it was up to -4000 hp. I'm assuming it's % based because when I was fighting minions and bosses the proc was only about 20-40 hp, which makes sense.
