Great constructive post there Bro. I think you are confused as to who looks like the jerk (I'll give you a hint, try a mirror). Clearly you don't even PLAY an MM, or you would know that dismissing the pets does not fix the bug. It removes them from your pet window, but not the game. Even logging off and back on does not always fix it.

To fix it certainly I have found you HAVE TO DIE. How it that just 'an annoying' bug?

What was weird for me, though, is that this arc still found someone for us to serve. I was about to complain that my character is all buddy-buddy with Darryn and eager to please, but then I remembered I'd sold myself to the Marshal from the start, and it got me thinking...

Why do our villains constantly get roped into serving in someone's grand scheme? I know Darryn goes out of his way to say "You are an equal!" pretty much out of context, just so that I can't make that complaint. It's just the same way all the Freedom Phalanx in Maria Jenkins' missions say "This is your mission, I'm just here to help, you lead the way, I follow, you're the hero of this story, now stop whining about it on the forums, ya sissy!" But even so, it's his plan, his plot, his story. I'm just tagging along. WHY am I always tagging along with other villains?

For heroes, I get it. You want to do the right thing, other people know how you can do the right thing, you do what other people say. It makes sense. But for villains? I got a bad taste in my mouth being asked to kill Alexis (even though Tyler would offer without a second thougth, since he sees humans as vermin), but when that was done, I wanted to punch Darryn, too. I don't know if I'm playing a Chaotic Stupid character who just wants to screw over everybody of if the story just made me hate Darryn, but being all giddy to follow his plan just seems... Odd.

This is a recurring complaint of mine that dates as far back as 2005 - we're henchmen. When I say that we can still use the existing contact system and just claim that we're following our own plots, I mean for the NARRATIVE to say this. Because even though Darryn says "You're an equal..." I still followed his plan, I still followed his orders. We're equals... But it's still his plan and his story. It is, in essence, Dr. Graves all over again, minus the humiliation.

Honestly, I'm too tired to argue the same points every time, but I just feel compelled over and over again. If we're going to involve player villains in major storylines, they need to be involved as progenitors, not opportunistic side characters. You can give them all the limelight in the world, but if they're following orders, they're still second fiddle. Dean McArthur and Leonard did it right. Sure, it was railroading. Sure, I were still following contact instructions. But at the same time, both contacts were working for me and were helping me and, when push came to shove, this was still MY story. I didn't get to pick what it was, granted, but it was still ABOUT me.

Oddly enough, I wouldn't have minded if our villains were superfluous to the events in the SSAs. I got involved, I busted some heads, I made some waves, but it turns out a guy with an Easter Island head is weaving a grand tapestry. Not interested, so I turn around and leave. Yes, it would have wasted my time, but I'd still have liked it, because I'd sooner waste my time by my choice than devote it to someone else's cause.

It's 3 AM and I'm not making any sense, but here's the jist of it: I wanted an option to punch Darryn Wayde, but one didn't show up. I get why we can't kill him, but at least reminding him of the third option would have been fun.
I do actually agree with some of your points about plot and story telling..but..

In your very first line, you talk about the whole arc being weird, because YOUR character wants to wipe out all humans (or whatever). That is making the entire plot RP based. Is there anything wrong with that? Of course not! But how can you expect the devs to make every single bit in the game somehow 'fit' for every combination of hero/villain that players come up with??

It is a totally unrealistic desire. If your guy sold himself to the Marshall, as you say..WHY did he do that, when he wants to kill every human? Oh wait you say, I was doing that to further my villainous goals? Yet you can't further your goals helping Darrin now?

Why are vills always roped into someone else's scheme? Mmmm could it be because there is always a more powerful villain? Or, if not more powerful, one who has more contacts/skill/knowledge in whatever area?

Also..not to state the obvious, but you do realise this is an MMO? As in, multiplayer. So again, expecting every plot to revolve just around you isnt realistic. Not only that, even the IDEA that we can somehow log in and think 'Oh what shall I do today..I know..I'll go to zone X and attack mob type Y in order to annoy boss C, getting powerful weapon F into my grasp,' just is NEVER going to happen because, you guessed it..this is an MMO. Wanting, or every thinking the devs could somehow make it so we can do whatever we want, with no scripting, no limits, nothing, is just stupid. Games do not work like that. If they did, no RPG would EVER get finished, due to the amount of variables.

I agree that Dean and Leo's arcs are a bit more of a step into..'Our' Missions, but still. Who are you to say that everyone wants to fight Ajax? Maybe I wanted to join up with him and take over Sharkhead. What, I can't do that!? Oh yeah, cause it is a game, with a scripted plot!

Again..I really DO get what you are saying, and I agree with it up to a point. That point is when I remember it is an MMO and has to cater to everyone, and no RPG has the limitless options you are after.

    Just play the darn game??
  3. Oh I agree Spad. Im not trying to say Ice is the only set that does it, and nor do I expect no duplicate powers. But it is still sad

    Biggest AS hit

    Not sure about AS but...

On an ITF awhile back, my brute hit Rom (nictus version) for 5200 with Energy transfer.
On a LAM I hit marauder with Crushing Uppercut for 4200 (crit + normal).

    That was fun to see

Villains continue to get extra information and a major reveal while the heroes are denied the whole picture. In other words, you don't really lose out on anything from only playing the villain arc, but heroes are denied parts of the story in their arc.

And while villains don't get an exclusive cool temp power this time, heroes don't either when they should; to balance against getting nothing cool from the first two arcs.

Oh wait, heroes do get something this time. They get FORCED TO FAIL. Warburg is still full of Rogue Arachnos. A hero is dead, pointlessly.

    Villains execute a beloved hero.
    Heroes get to lose.
Devs get to stuff another woman into the refrigerator.

Must be getting crowded in there with the bodies of Seer Katie, Vanessa DeVore and War Witch.

    .
I do agree with you about the temp powers but..you are moaning that a hero we NEVER see or get to interact with..is dead? This concerns us how?? Also, it is rather amusing seeing people moan about villains 'getting stuff' for once..when it is usually (with good reason) the other way around.

My biggest issue with the new part? It is THREE missions, with the plot being said person dying. Yet, in the pretty load screen..it GIVES AWAY THE ENDING! Awesome job..dont even need a spoiler..you know it is going to happen right away.

That way, they could balance skills independently, retaining the same skill, but tailoring its effectiveness based upon PvP or PvE. In the OP's case, the devs could have just implemented the phase period for Hibernate when used in PvP zones while leaving Hibernate alone without the phase period when used in PvE zones. Wish CoH would have implemented something like that. It would have allowed the devs to nerf/buff powersets for being over/under-powered in PvP without touching their functionality in PvE.
This Sir..is the logical and smart solution. See the accro nerf..due to pvp. Nerfing teh stun mag on Total Focus in pvp and pve..yet npcs still have mag 4. 'Fixing ET'..because it was a lil overpowered in pvp, yet not bothering to adjust the set in other ways (besides barrage).
  7. I totally agree with this. I have an ice tanker, that I have not played in ages, with NO hiber. Pretty much cause I regard it as a useless power for a tank..who is designed to hold aggro.

But I don't want to get into an argument about the power itself.

My tank also didnt have hiber because on the utterly stupid no hiber timer. No other set has a tier 9 that gets penalised in pve, because of something to do with pvp. I freely admit, I hated fighting ice tanks in pvp, and having them hiber..but at least it was worth taking.

The way that the devs just handed out the power in the epics/patron pools is so lazy and pathetic. Every AT but brutes, heats and veats (I think?) gets it..a tier 9 in a PRIMARY set. I haven't tried the new stalker tier 9..but it sounds almost EXACTLY like the thing that was missing from my ice tanker.

Cue convo between an excited just lvl 50 ice tank, and a newish player, aka, noob.

Tank: Man..this set is SO cool! Get it..cool?!
Noob: Yeah..it looks great! I mean..well, can you turn the ice down? That costume you spent 5 hours on..I can't see it at all!
Tank: I..cant. But oh well..I dont play for costumes! It is all about my powers!
Noob: Right! Only 5 hours wasted..tell me about this set!
    Tank: Well..I get..Ice armour..and Glacial armour!
Noob: Suuuper cool! Aren't those the same powers that that cold fender/corr/troller over there has??
Tank: Um...yeah..I guess. BUT mine are higher values! And I get chilling embrace!
Noob: Sounds fun..blasters and doms get that too right?
Tank: Well..mine is better isnt it! I can take the aggro! I also get this sharp looking damage aura!
Noob: Yeah! Nice! But..Now I cant see you at all..I am sure it totally does great damage though..lethal, not even cold?
Tank: Ok..Hoarfrost then! Super cool heal and + hp!
Noob: That blasters, MM's and doms get? That sounds pretty rare! Well..rarer than your armours..
Tank: Energy absorption then! I LOVE it!
Noob: Ooo pretty..didn't EA just get that? You know..what was seen as the worst Defensive set in the game? Just saying..
Tank: Oh come on..my tier 9 is the best! I mean..I cant even DIE!! How good is that?!
Noob: Woah, that is nice, unkillable. But, you know those other guys on our team?
    Tank: Yeah..?
Noob: They ALL just died, cause the mob forgot about you.
Tank: Oh darn! *drops hiber and spams taunt*
Noob: I can totally see how being unkillable helps though. Like when you are soloing single baddies. Tanks are REAL good at that right?
    Tank: Umm..yeah...
Noob: And I just noticed..every AT but brutes, heats and veats gets hiber too? Just with a longer rech..which doesnt matter with the timer..but I can really see how it is a great power!
Tank: Mmm I have ALWAYS wanted to try Invul....!

Ok, I exaggerate a bit, and ice is hardly the only set to share powers and pools with others, but you get the idea. Especially about hiber!!
  8. 1) What exactly does power boost boost besides the controls? I know it effects heals (Aid Self) but what other powers? Def Powers? Resistance? At level 50 its a 97% boost so that means it double the effectiveness approximately? Does it effect Carrion Creepers? I am mostly just curious what it effects that Dominators get access to? (Stamina? Health? Etc)

There is quite a few posts of what power boost does. Basically, any stat with a resist in it..will not be touched. Like a resist toggle. All you mez type effects except KB will be boosted, healing, defence from things like cj, the hold prot in acco, slows, end drains. -to hit in say..earth quake, -def in the same. Think that is about it.

    2) Would anyone care to summarize the pets in the various primaries? IE, Fire Imps are known to do the most damage, how significant is it to the number 2 damage pet? (Whatever that may be) How survival is the pet (Meaning any of the pets) in the late game? IE, I'd make a choice on a more survivable pet over damage if the damage pet is usually a corpse.

Imps are great damage, also fairly survivable..cause theres 3. They can be very insane though. Gremlins are pretty nice..they have a chaining kb that helps. But also have a damage aura that gets them dead. Singy is awesome for more control, and can protect you very well. Jack..I hear can be pretty good, with extra slows. Stoney is a very good tank, and his attacks have a taunt. And when slotted with the +res procs, he can almost cap his resists. Flytrap is nice with some aoes and def debuffs.

    3) What about summarizing the various control of the primaries?
Um...not really a simple question. They all share the basic stuff (apart from mind). ST hold, st immob, aoe immob, aoe hold, aoe stun/sleep/confuse. The sets usually have a secondary effect to them.
    Fire - dot damage
Grav - movement and jump slows
Ice - movement and rech slows
    Elec - end drain
    Earth - def debuffs
    Mind - general awesomeness
    Plant - um...you get a bush?

    4) Finally, could someone summarize the various secondaries? Basically, overall damage with a range / melee mix, damage with going pure range, and damage with melee.

Again..not a simple question. They all have teh secondary effetcs (to the secondary powers..sec squared!)
Elec - end drain + a pet. Good st damage, ok aoe. Mix of melee and range
Energy - kb and stuns, great st damage, maybe a bit slow, average aoe. Mix of melee and range
Fire - damage, damage, and more damage. end recovery power, great damage, decent aoe. Mix of melee and range
Ice - slows. And..crap damage. Totally crap. I find anyway. Did have a great aoe..not so much now. Mix of melee and range. Slot brawl instead.
Psi - rech debuffs and some utility. Good aoe, was great. Late coming. Mix of melee and range
Earth - kb and stuns. Good damage, end heavy, only 2 ranged blasts. Lot of melee
Throny - def debuff and tox dot. Great mix of cones, aoes and st damage. And..spikey!

    Hope that helps

Yes, temp powers are totally not right. They are only in the game to cover people with ****** builds.

Or how about giving any toon basically infinite recovery, or a stack or regen?

In the trails, Destiny powers are not OP..most leagues need them to do well. In normal content? They are very very powerful. Maybe not quite OP, but hardly as un-gamechanging as you make out.

I was talking about a similar thing with a friend..I know ONE person who picked a Destiny power to help the team...one person! Everyone else, me included, picks the one best suited to that toon. Which, since Destiny is an aoe team buff...is just wrong.

Can totally see the argument against judgements..it isnt fun popping build up, going in to AS (or whatever) a boss, and see 2 judgements just melt it. Giving them a 2 min recharge, shorter than some other Nuke powers, was just an idiotic idea.

I don't know about this. To me, the whole point of confusion, it to STOP the target being able to damage you..in any way. The fact that they are killing their mates is just a nice bonus. But don't forget, it also means a bit less xp..and that upsets some people.

PLant/time is awesome fun. Mine just recently hit 50..and I love it. I also don't really like playing trollers, but the combo has more than enough to make me feel busy.

Make the dom if you want better hard control (domination on seeds, immobs, and holds) and better single target damage. Make the troller if you want aoe mayhem and more supportish. Both with be fun.
  12. Bring a 50 doesnt mean you MUST bring one. He is saying that to the vip players, so they have a chance to net lvl 50 pvp drops. That and they are more likely to have a ready 50 there.

That is an outrage, how dare the leader of a TF be looking for certain sets or ATs. Sorry, that was overly sarcastic. I do get what you are saying, but it all depends what the task, and how the people frame the adverts.

If it is a +4 MO stf for instance, and the team already has 2 blasters and a tank, s it really unfair that the leader wants to know if people are support type sets?

I totally agree with some of the posts here about builds. Purple and ultimate bonuses do not make the toon. Especially on Freedom, I see a LOT of builds stacked with purples and pvp IOs, that I would not consider for any TF (obviously trials you have to be less picky). Most of the time they are pvp builds, who skip buffs and debuffs powers.

Also, do not forget..all the purple sets in game will not suddenly make a toon called
    xXx UbersterNublet xXx cool.

Sir, you cannot say that you do not care about the use/damage/power itself if you are sitting here wanting the power rearrangement. Either adapt to the sharks/stalkers or pick up your head in pride and try another zone where you would 'have a better chance(?).'

    And with that,

    -FLING FLING FLING FLING-
Each AT does need a specialty..and you know what..a ranged patron pool power attack, on a Melee AT, isn't it. Agree with Ares, it should be shifted down the order. Agree with Katalyst, nerf sharks and ranged damage for the AT, buff AS.

Cry me a river. While I do see how it can be annoying, villains HAD to do those arcs for how ever many years, just to get epics, and then could not even switch patrons. Just a thought. I just dont see why as a hero i need to go to villain to get a power set and as a villain i have access to them all.
Villains don't have access to them all. Only ones you can pick as a vill right away are the hero epics..the patrons still require the arcs to be 1/3 done.

If heroes got patrons, like the freedom phalanx, then vills would need to get another lot of generic pools, to even it out. 10+ pools of 5 powers each? I doubt it.

How can you say that Paragon does NOT quickly fix the good bugs, and delayed the 'bad' ones? It happens, like every issue! Do you actually play this game? DO you want me to list examples of this??

Regardless, I guess Brill was right saying the rewards were not a bug, just an oversight. I can see that. But it still does not mean that everyone checks the patch notes, or that the issue should have been stopped even going to Beta, or that the wording of the patch notes actually makes sense.

If they take accountability for being at fault for what they don't know because of it, fine. It's the ones who come here pitching a s***fit because of willful ignorance ( Which is exactly what choosing not to read the patch notes is. Note that "ignorance" is not an insult before you go off on that. Simply means lack of knowledge ) that are stupid.
How could they not know? Um, quite easily. Because, again, try listening here..NOT EVERYONE reads the patch notes. Have you got it yet? Is it a hard concept? Let's try something else. Does everyone who buys a computer game read the manual? No, they do not. People just like to get down to it.

I also like you accusing me of willful ignorance, when I DID say..I already knew about the change, prior to running the arc. Try to keep up smart guy. Again, I figured that since I did 33 missions, to change my alignment from vill to hero, and got the shiny Hero ONLY temp power..that I was in fact a Hero. But no.

Let us consult all powerful google.

    re·in·force/ˌrē-inˈfôrs/
    Verb:

Strengthen or support, esp. with additional personnel or material.
Strengthen (an existing feeling, idea, or habit).

Oh, look at that smart guy. With additional material! You know, like the TEMP power I got for going from rogue to hero? Wow, isn't that funny. Strengthen? Well..surely if we look as 100% hero or villain as full strength Ideals, then going from rogue, a hallway ideal (50%), to the full power Hero one..counts as, you guessed it...Strengthening it!

So in fact, if people did read the patch notes, which you still believe everyone does, its right up there with going to church every sunday for you right, anyone who was not sure of the wording, and checked the definition of Reinforce..would come to the SAME conclusion as me.

The way the system is now, you have to repeat, or do an additional morality (or a first time one) in order to qualify. Does it mention repeating? In those magical, stone engraved patch notes? What, it doesn't?? No! Surely not.

And lastly, I am not going to bother trying to making insults sound non-insulting with apparently cunning word play. You. Are. Stupid.

Anyone who didn't fully expect this to be changed was stupid. Period. Anyone who CHOSE NOT TO READ THE PATCH NOTES where this was EXPLICITLY STATED can't complain that they weren't informed: The notice was there. The patcher said a patch was applied and a link on the patcher leads you to the patch notes. If you don't at least skim them, then it's your fault if you don't know the changes that were made.
Players are stupid huh? For not checking the patch notes religiously? How about all the people who don't even KNOW there are notes detailing every patch? The people who got home after a hard day, updated while they made coffee, then sat down just wanting to PLAY, not read notes?

If you are assuming everyone who doesn't read them is stupid, I bet that is a large portion of players. But clearly, not everyone is as smart as you, right? It all leads back to my point about no in game text....so they can add two lines in the patch notes, that is almost certainly NOT going to be read by everyone...OR...they could add two lines into the contact info, in big red text..that would certainly be seen by everyone doing the arc.

Tell me again, who is stupid here?

    A ranged Cone

Certainly there are other sets like Axe that could use a pass, but the structure and power order of Katana and BS are nearly identical. But the devs did not ensure that BSs damage made up for its much slower animations. Comparing the DPA of an AoE focused set to BS is irrelevant. It's comparing apples and oranges.

But I must thank you for your arguments, for they have keep the discussion lively.
Do you ever read your own posts Geko? You just said..

'Comparing the DPA of an AoE focused set to BS is irrelevant. It's comparing apples and oranges.'

yet look up about 5 lines...

'All the things Spines has that BS doesn't:', and go onto list exactly how, in every way possible, Spines doesnt compare to BS. Oh wait, you forgot to add it also doesnt compare because the power names are different. There, now it is all covered.

Look back to your first post. You say there...

'While the structure of Katana and Broadsword are identical, Katana gets better DPA on 5 of 7 attacks and is only worse on one attack. This situation is no longer reasonable.'

The is your CORE argument Geko. The one you are basing this whole idea on! (Note, I am not saying you are not correct in the lower DPA's) So then, when I join the discussion, and go and list sets with WORSE dpa than broadsword, suddenly that is silly and you quickly pile in with listing all the unqiue things that Spines can do, and tell me I should not compare an aoe set to a single target set.

If you would note, I did not do that. I compared the DPA of the sets attacks, regardless of what kind they were. Because..again, your first post talks about DPA. So it seems that you are totally validated in comparing one of the best aoe sets, to a single target one, in order to make YOUR point, but I cant compare the very stat that you base your argument on. Logic!

But hey, you want to list all the shiny bits of spines, compared to BS? (despite the comparison being, as you point out, useless)
BS: All attacks doing -7.5% def, enhanceable
130 degree melee cone (ripper being 90deg)
    A + melee/lethal def attack, stackable
A mag 0.67 KD atatck, with an arc and ability to hit more targets
    A mag 4 KU attack
A High damage attack, able to be picked FIRST
Ability to slot one more set type of damage proc in attacks.

So there ya go Geko..a list of things BS has THAT spines can't do. And you know what, it is JUST as worthless as your list of things spines has that BS doesnt..since they arent the same sets. But hey..I only compared the DPAs...now..what was the thread started based on the DPA on broadsword...oh yeah! This one.
