Freedom here..I cant really imagine trying to get one going on some of the other servers. Perhaps the 'easy' trails like BAFS...but a master UG etc?
I am sure its completly unrealistic..but it would be nice if maybe the LFG tool (not for a league that is formed by invites) somehow worked cross server, creating a temporary shard for the duration of the Trial itself. -
I can see it being skippable on some builds at 50, but the Defensive Sweep power is great for building MO. You have to do it somehow..so why not use a cone which gives MORE chances to hit something, and giving a defense boost?
-
Seems like a good time to air my thoughts on BR..
I got the set when it was new, and made a BR/EM blaster. Some points now..
It is my 3rd /em blaster. I am not sure if this has a bearing on teh following, but it could do.
I wanted to try building a Defencey type blasta...ranged and s/l, just for the hell of it.
I wanted fly ( ALL my other toons have ss/cj) just for a change, and cause Afterburner is pretty and goes Fhwooosh.
Onto beam itself...I like the set. I think. The toon is currently at 47. As an aside, when I make a toon, I will play it up to 50, almost exclusively, not counting random tfs on other toons. My beam blaster has stalled at 47, and I have got 3 other 50s since then..including a blaster.
Beam..the damage is nice. I wont deny it. But..you have basically 5? powers that look the SAME. One cone that has really odd graphics when used with boost range, and the cooool tier 9. That is my biggest issue with it..all the attacks 'feel' the same.
Another thing that really gets to me is that the sets 'plays' laggy. I do not know how else to describe it (maybe others can echo the feeling) but it constantly feels like my attacks are laggy, with damage coming right at the end, and mobs seeming to die after they should.
Mind you, I still can;t decide if it is lag, the set itself, or just me. Or maybe it is that I just am not a flight person and miss melee attacks. On paper at least, the damage the set can do is huge. Hope that helped.
Oh, just noticed your Dis question. It is a neat gimmick but..a lot of the time it seems to happen only as stuff dies. I also seem to notice teh cone (cutting beam) seeming to spread the Dis effect..even though it makes no mention of being able to. -
Not to be negative but..I will. Maybe YOUR stalker is useless, maybe it doesnt work in teams, maybe you hate having no AoEs.
Really..if you have SUCH a problem with the AT, WHY the hell are you playing one? Go play something else and let the people who enjoy stalkers..enjoy stalkers.
I like the sounds of the coming stalker tweaks, they might do really well. If not, I wont care a bit, since I think stalkers work fine. -
Quote:Damn..get over it. If they are such NEW players..why would they be trailing about the forums reading every lil thread? They would actually be IN the game. Its not like teh post was made just to annoy people with spoilers. You can easily know who the Midnighters are, while only having a vague idea about the Shadow Shard, because hints are sprinkled throughout some early missions. Enough to make it interesting, but mysterious. And its mystery is part of the intrigue. This seems to be flying over some peoples heads. Analogously, you're saying it's no big deal to blurt out some information from chapter 5 of a book, while I'm still reading chapter 3.
I'm not going to attempt to change anyone's mind here. I wouldn't be so foolish. But I guarantee you're going to irritate people by carrying this line of reasoning around with you.
Please keep spoilers out of thread titles. And by spoilers, I mean spoilers to new players. -
How? It is MEANT to be an aoe set? What is so crazy about expecting, or wishing, it had an aoe that was NOT the same as other sets? If you use that to justify everything, how the hell did we get 1000 cuts hitting 10 targets at a longer range..when no other melee cone does that? Or more to the point, please explain how Footstomp and Tremor are the same tier of powers, yet one takes 5 days to go off, one is super fast? Sets ARE different.
-
I tend to agree with most of what you said, expect for the bit about 6-8 man trials. I can understand why people would like this, less lag, less idiots, easier, but if we went that way, it would kill off the leagues. After going to all teh trouble of making te league system, I would think the devs wouldnt be in a hurry to do that.
Also, I suggest maybe MoM be locked behind a system similar to Apex/Tin. Baf and Lam are super easy to jump on after just hitting 50m no alpha slot or incarnate powers at all. UG gives a ton of xp, and you can still help to some degree. But MoM, with 16 players max, and +2 AVs all over..just how much can a lvl 50 really help?
Of course, this creates another lockout system, but the one in the Incarnate TFs didnt cause a big deal. -
The title says it all really. I have a toon with every melee set we have, so naturally I got TW and decided on a tw/ea brute.
Now, I am going to list a few points here, good and bad..just looking to see if any agrees, or perhaps I am being overly critical.
The weapons are only useable with it point Left (I think?). Why can't we have them pointing the other way?
It is all Smash damage, with a few lethal dots...when you have a BIG sword, that doesnt make a huge deal of sense. Would have been nice to see the smashy type weapons do smash with lethal dot, and the blade types do lethal with smash dot..
The cones with the extra range are really good..fits with the big weapon theme, but they are all 5 targets max! Kinda dumb if your huge sword can only someone, stupidly hit 5 people. Compare with the dual blades tier 9, that has 10 targets and extended range.
The AoE. I was sure I read somewhere in the Beta forums, the aoe had a larger radius than other aoes. Maybe I didn't....the point is..it SHOULD have a 20 ft, at least, radius. Especially when you are limited to using it when you have MO. In comparison to Footstomp, it does less damage..and even has a DoT portion. Am I expecting it to be the new FS? Do I want it to be? No idea. I LOVE the animation for this power, to bad the radiusand damage seem lacking for how cool it looks.
The animations themselves. Ok, I get it..weapons as big as players, they IS going to be clipping issues. But pretty much every attack, if you queue it up and you are not facing the target, your avatar does some weird insta spin and ends up waving the weapon in weird directions.
NPC reactions. I think the Street Justice set has totally spoiled my here, but TW just isnt cutting it. Quite a few StJ powers, namely the aoe, cause baddies to stagger and move back, under the impact of the hits. Ok..so, a kick to the head makes people stagger, but hitting them with a 10foot pole, they just grit their teeth and take it on the chin?
Again, maybe I am just being picky. I like the set, I really do. But.. -
Like this idea a lot..also a chain/whip/roan/laser lash type assault set for doms, maybe blasters?
Tension is such a cool name (and your animation idea) for build up..I wish they would make all the aims/bu's unique. -
If I had been asking this before Dual Pistols came out..the answer would have been a big NO. However, after playing DP myself..looking totally awesome AND kicking *** is simply better.
Even moreso with Street Justice..seriously, the person who did those animations rocks, I would play that set if it had defender damage. And on another note..the TW animations seem a bit..lacking. Especially in the way baddies react to being hit with a 10ft whatever. -
There is a lil more to it than..single target attacks and pouncing.
I have failed about..5? MoMs, usually at the penny fight. It seems to help to do a rough explanation of what is needed BEFORE going into the room (obvious I know, but people are generally stupid) or everyone gets in, sees bad guys, starts attacks and taking damage..and it soon becomes chaos.
Most runs I have done, assign tanks/brutes to taunt the voids over, while the team huddles at penny. Pet peeve here..idiotic tanks without taunt..who argue flat out they can NOT taunt things...when they have taunt auras and Gauntlet. Fools. Anyway, this can work fairly well.
However, for the Perfect Storm badge, I would suggest the tactic I convinced my team to try just now. That of huddling up inside the small room (where you zone into), while one taunter pulls Penny back just inside the doorway, facing away from the league. Then, that taunter or others, can go out into the main room, taunt, run back in breaking LOS (I am seriously gobsmacked how many melees flat out swear they can taunt stuff better standing in the middle of a room) and killing voids as needed.
To quote our league..Doorway pulls all the way. -
As cool as the random Nightmare AVs are...I really dont like the vast vast inbalances in their power levels. Have been on runs that got AVs like..deathsurge, eochai, adamastor..ones who are laughable. Then you get Crystal Titan with unresitable damage (might be fixed, dont know), Avatar of Hami who uses that mile radius aoe and just one shots everyone..Rudulaak the Strong, with his thunderstrike type that does 5000 damage to melees..
Really like the random idea, it is very cool and fun..but when the difficulty of that phase basically boils down to whatever the RNG rolls up for the team..poor show. -
Are people really thinking about the impact of this..aside from the obvious 'convert junky Gamblers/Numi and get something good.'
Most sets on the marker, even the good ones, have bits that are cheap, compared to the rest of that set. Thus you know you can get a posi blast dam/ran cheap, because they are common and not as desirable as the other bits.
Don't get me wrong, I think it will be handy. I also think it will see an increase in rarity and price on just about everything on the market. Everything people actually use that is. Who is gonna sell the less good recipes, when you can convert them into something better? I have already heard about people stockpiling the cheap purple sets, just so they can convert then into something better. Same goes for pvp IOs like the pbaoe set.
And you can be sure that the ones doing this..are mostly the ones who can afford to lash out 10 billion without a thought. I think they should cost more..and require more to do teh conversions. -
Quote:That is just total crap. The first time I used Beta, back when dual blades hit, I copied the files over, because I didnt want to have to download it all again. It worked fine, but when I logged on, I didnt see ANY big notice about doing proper testing and reporting back to the devs. There was no big handy in game survey to fill out. Maybe there is now, I dont know.Maybe if people who go on the Beta server actually did beta testing and left forum feedback & bug notes instead of just looking at the shinies and then never logging on again, well, then maybe we wouldn't have so many bugs make it Live.
Just a thought, y'know.
The reason I don't know? Somehow, the Beta install on my comp broke the Live version..so I had to download it all again. So I said stuff it. Oh you you know another reason why I, and I dare say quite a lot of other people, do not go onto Test and report back?
THE DEVS DONT FIX STUFF.
Yes, that is right! Case in point, the guy who reported the villain base bug, last patch, in Beta. It still went LIVE! SO how does this hold up by your logic, or lack of it? He found the bug, reported it, they did..oh wait, nothing. Now, granted, maybe it was super hard to fix, totally justifying them taking..3? weeks. But seriously, they couldnt just disable base defences, which serve no purpose anyway? wtf?
Or what about the old snake farm bug back in mercy? I saw a thread by a guy who found and reported that, months before..yet again..pushed Live.
If the devs are really using Beta as a way to catch bugs that their testing department misses, big obvious ones like the bases, then I think their testing guys need to wake up and get to actual testing.
Also, in case you havent realised, not everyone has the time to spend hours and hours on Test, playing with the new stuff, which then has to be done AGAIN when it goes Live. I am sure some people enjoy that, just as I bet a lot don't.
Claiming that more bugs would be fixed if more people found and reported them is just silly. Especially in the face of recent evidence. We are not employees of NC, we are not qualified testers, we are PLAYERS, who often have hugely differing ideas on what is even a bug in the first place.
Beta is, and should be, a place where people can look at the current new stuff, fiddle with it a bit, then give some sort of feedback. It should not be somewhere we go, unpaid, unthanked, to TEST a product we pay (sort of) for. -
Update...just was on a 3x failing league of 24 people. Then we cut it back to 16.
This REALLY helped for the telepath part outside, and we got teh MO badge for that too. It did seem to shrink teh inside mobs, but not a huge deal -
I agree with you Darth. Basically nothing in TPN is a 'challenge.' It just becomes a series of damage fests on single mobs, dispersed with an AV. Of course..you can say this to a degree about anything in the game, but to have to do the clear terminals/click terminal part five or six times..is just plain lazy writing I think. Surely we could get some other tasks? Maybe blow up some portable IDF generators or something?
Did the trial 4 times today, failing each time, and on the 5th we finished very easily. Note what I said..it was easy AFTER we all knew what to do. Which again, can be said about the other trials. The difference is the others dont required the same thing over and over. Think of a BAF where after killing siege and nightstar as a pair..the objectives suddenly changed to have to stop another 5 mins of escapees.
Another complaint I have with it (similar to keyes pre update) is that I ran it on an MM, and found it very unfriendly. At the start, defeating mobs around the outside, I basically couldnt use ANY powers but my heal, for fear of tagging a camera. Then later on, when you have to run between the buildings tagging terminals over and over...I had to kill and resummon pets each time, because they were getting aggro in the buildings, that every else, including me, just ran through.
After people get badges for this..wondering how often we will see it done. UG gives a stack more xp, even failing. Baf and Lam are obviously better. Keyes is easier.
Seems to have so many areas where a league can fail just due to a few people being new/clueless/flat out dumb. I just dont see how a more challenging trial just comes down to..harder to co-ordinate with 23 people over the net.
Oh and the door to the TPN visual building thingy is WAY to obscure. How about a sign? -
One of the best things about the Veats is that you can make them 3 different ways, with a load of options after that. A lot of other ATs and builds have pretty obvious powers to get, stay away from, and pool powers to look for.
I have a Soldier with crab/bane builds, and it is great for switching out in incarnate trials. One thing that does annoy me is that the toon began as a bane, I made the crab secondary build, and got stuck with the legs. -
Quote:I am going to try speak really slowly, since you clearly do not understand what I am trying to say.You are *whining* about support class and toons with a self heal being able to use it more often, while still having the huge amount of TS that comes with spamming your aura. What incandescence does is removes the massive cruch that is heal decay, a mechanic put into place so bad / unorganized players could hope to get kills in zones.
If you could manage to control yourself from foaming out the mouth the second someone mentions "i13" you'll noticed I only mentioned it out of the irony that comes from the statement "Totally invalidates a core pvp mechanic" Because that is exactly what heal decay did. So now the dev's put something in that invalidates what had invalidated something else a few years earlier, you are the one crying this time around.
Please tell me who you are that you can safely say what we are and are not meant to do? Seriously now. For years a (much larger) community got by just fine without heal decay. In arena pvp teams still get by just fine without it as well. So what are you basing your opinion on, that this incarnate power breaks pvp? This is why I pointed out what other destiny powers can do, yet you were all to quick to dismiss them because one can only guess you got beat a few times by a new power and decided to come on the boards and whine about it. Re read your post, because that is exactly what it comes off like, you had your crutch kicked out from under you and now you are upset.
Its statements like this that probably cause me to pass a condescending tone towards people.
"Please show me where these powers are in those AT sets" we are talking about incarnates and how they have influenced PvP. You go so far as to call rebirth incarnates a staple in PvP, yet ignore the way they have reshaped playing a Dom or Blaster. In one breath you can say "Its okay if a character with no self heal gets a 1000 point heal and massive regen bonus) and in another say "But characters with a self heal shouldn't be allowed to use it at full strength all the time."
In the future, please stop a moment and think out your statements before talking circles around yourself.
Glad to see you ended on a strong note, really I am.
You aren't crying for a nerf, really?
Let me help you out here, if something were "Busted" or broken you would say "While hibernated, a player is flagged as *Only affecting self* yet, Incandescence ignores this flag and stuns you anway." Is it intended? A bug, or the WAI now? We don't know, but it would appear to be a bug given the way "Only affecting self" powers have acted in the past.
"OMG ITS TOO GOOD EMPS ARE BEATING EARTH FIRES NOW WITH ONLY 2 ATTACKS" Your argument/statement is a nerf cry.
To finish things off, your personal attack about "using the 800 point heal at a smarter time" so hibes don't get broken doesn't really apply here as a majority of my characters run phase shift and don't have to worry about that. It was definitely the strong finish I hoped for after what was a very well thought out post.
My argument is that being able to remove heal decay is broken. Nothing on either side of the 'is heal decay good/bad' argument. Also, I never mentioned travel suppression, but well done for bringing it up, and making it sound like I was relating the issue to TS..when I didnt. TS has NOTHING to do with being able to bypass heal decay..nothing! If you think it does, I suggest some more time pvping (again, just to clarify, since you seem to love twisting my words, I am NOT saying spamming a heal wouldnt cause TS, I know it would..but thats an entirely different point).
And there is your high horse argument about i13 pvp again. Just in case you didnt notice, i13 pvp HAPPENED. It realllly truly ruly did! So your argument that my statement about no heal decay being not broken..doesnt work, you know why? Because in the current pvp..we HAVE heal decay. Stop living in your dream i13 world, please. Making the point that something is not broken, because the very thing it breaks was added (for right or wrong) to pvp EIGHT full issues ago? Way to cling to the past. Does that mean you wont be using your rebirth anymore either, because we sure didnt have that in i13...opps, theres another thing thats broken! Better let everyone else know.
You reaaally need to read what people actually say. Yes, I called rebirth a pvp stable..because IT IS! Do I anywhere mention agreeing, or not, with the fact it is?? I can just accept teh fact it is a staple, and move on. You know why? Because it has zero to do with the point I was making..about the destiny being broken. Or what, you think that since people have rebirth, that means another, unrelated power, doing something that previously was NOT possible, is suddenly fine?
Another thing, I already said this, but maybe just maybe..you will get it. I used the emp beating the fire blaster as..(wait for it, brace yourself, get a dictionary) an EXAMPLE. I never said..nerf the power because an emp can beat a blaster. I said FIX the clearly broken power. A fix..you know? Not a nerf.
In regard to a strong finish..I dont think I actually needed one..since all you are doing is relating something NOW, to i13 pvp, and how because you think it is not broken..there is NO way it actually could be. Ok, opinions are fine..mine is, that it is broken. Totally ok that you dont agree..but could you try to find a better argument than 'no heal decay is fine, just cause there was none in i13.'
Oh and a phasenub huh? I just KNOW your own of the people who stacks different phase types..because I guess to you that isnt a bug either. Obviously since you could do it in i13, its all good! -
Quote:lol, I LOVE you pvp trolls. So upset about the changes to pvp that you guys did not agree with, that you feel you have the moral high ground in any discussion. Please, direct me to the part in my post, where I somehow claimed that the destiny stopped heal decay somehow totally makes the pvp changes ok. Because I am pretty sure I didnt say anything of the sort. In face, I specifically said..'I dont agree with all the pvp changes.'Considering the core PvP mechanic completely invalidated what made support AT's good for several years before it was implemented, you don't really have that strong of a case.
Additionally, every blaster/dom out there has a 800-1000 point heal that follows up with a massive regen spike. Countless melee types run around with a MoG style power, that at its peak makes them all but invulnerable and in its down time still provides a buff that boosts their survivablity. I have to laugh at someone crying out for a nerf to support toons in zone, after they were already pretty much made obsolete for the past few years.
Heaven forbid we move back to a direction where facing at team with support might mean needing to do more than just randomly damage spam a target a little longer until they die or phase.
The only things broken with this power is the stun not flagged for PvP and the fact that it can break hibernate.
Claiming that the destiny breaks a core pvp mechanic, in the CURRENT pvp (not your lil wet dream i13 pvp where you could kite like a bunny on crack)...needs no case at all. Because, it doesnt require a case to be made. The way it removes heal decay DOES break the heal decay mechanic. Please, tell me how it doesnt?
Oh and don't bother saying that me can remove heal decay in teh zones..so somehow it isnt broken. In zones, where we are meant to have heal decay..the destiny can remove it, totally. But yeah, it isnt broken at all. Not.
Also love your comment about every dom or blaster having a 800 point heal. Please, show me where these powers are in those AT sets? Clearly you mean rebirth incarnates, which are a staple in pvp. Yet, this has nothing at all to do with the fact the destiny is broken.
Saying the power is busted and wanting it balance is hardly crying for a nerf to all support toons either. I simply made the example of the emp besting a fire blaster to illustrate my point..thats its broken! It is just as broken on a regen scrapper with rebirth and a tray of greens as it is on an emp with healing aura every 3 seconds.
I find it amusing you mention the hiber bit being broken...maybe you need to use YOUR 800 point heal at a smarter time..so you dont need hiber? -
In regard to the devs wanting to update the TFs but not having the time..
How about having a Dev sponsored AE contest..Make Signature TF X. Have a special story slot in ae, to provide more than the usual amount of story arc space, give us some rough guidelines like mob type, overarching story, goals etc, and let us (or the creative among us) go to it.
Then narrow it down, with the eventual winner becoming a sanctioned way to run that TF, and get the badge. If criteria were given, it would stop people submitting easily exploitable alternatives to get the badges.
That said...aside from posi, I see all of the sig tfs as something I only ever do for the badge and accolade, never for fun. Synaspe is waaay to long as painful, Numi has a slew of utterly pointless missions, and running at +1, still only gives about one bar of xp. -
It is actually WORSE than just the long stun, or the fact it breaks hibernate (interestingly, I heard it didnt break hiber for an ice tank).
The power also has teh -resistance to healing. ie, you get higher healing values when a heal power is applied to you. In fact, the value in the T4 is so high..that it completely REMOVES heal decay. Thats right..one of the main 'features' of zone pvp balance (according to the devs, not saying I like it). You can pop it on an emp, and happily go around healing yourself for 500 every 3 seconds. I have heard of pvp emps, with 2 attacks, winning duels against fire blasters and earth/fire doms..simply because they couldnt do enough damage.
Somehow, I really doubt the power was intended to totally invalidate a core pvp mechanic. -
Ok..so..your play style has evolved? Yet when not in granite, stone armour needs MORE work than other sets, to shore up what is a pretty ordinary set , without granite?
And even without Granite, stone has..3? 4? powers that ruin your costume. Minerals, rock armour, cystal armour and rooted. 4 powers you NEED to have on without granite. I will ask again..if the costume was such a consideration, in not running granite..how do all these powers get included too?
Willpower, ice, dark, fire, invul, sr..all these armours can be made awesome..without needing ONE power..there tier 9s. Stone, is mediocre at best, without its tier 9. Because the set is basically balanced on the fact you will be in granite.
I just dont see how skipping the best power in the set is evolution..when the other powers offer nothing the other sets cant do much better. -
Quote:Again..not trying to be argumentative here..BUT..if you are making your stone tank so that you do NOT have to constantly run about in granite..why even bother playing stone? Granite is the be all and end all for tanking. Simple as that. Sure, you can make other tanks about as tough, but granite is the best out of teh box.Scientist has it. The other part of it is that a lot of attacks that are mainly other types, like energy or fire, also have a smashing or lethal component--and the highest defense that is applicable to the attack is the one that is applied against it. So if I have a 45% smashing/lethal and a 30% energy, I get 45%, not 30%, defense to energy smashing attacks. So by capping smashing and lethal defense, I'm actually capped against most of the attacks in the game of whatever type.
This means that I can do most of my tanking without having to lurch around in slow motion unable to see my costume design.
If costume design and the slow mo on stone is such a big turn off, again..WHY even bother having stone? You could make an Invul tank, with pretty similar performance, add in the same IOs you are building for, and be without the slow motion..and able to see your costume.
I understand wanting to make the tank better..but if you are doing that just so you can not run the best power in the set, for visual reasons, well...pants on head? -
In case no one has asked..WHY do you need to cap a stone tanker to s/l? When you can cap your resistance to it anyway?
Surely a slotted stoner in granite is tough enough? Getting recharge would be priority I thought. If you are dying so much that you want/need teh capped s/l def..something is very wrong. -
Is all this really that big of a deal? It is a super hero game. Whop generally writes super hero stuff like comic and movies. Guys. Who are they mostly (if someone can quote a stat saying teenage girls LOVE comics and not Twilight, I am willing to change the statement) aimed at? Guys.
What do guys like seeing? Scantily dressed women. Does it really matter it Sister Psy, or that female toon over there is sexy? They can still kick ***. If anything, I find states codpiece and lycra more offensive than a sexy female suit.
And you know that no one is making the female toons dress sexy. Sure, the packs do have sexy bits..but no one is FORCED to dress like that. Sounds to me like the female players who have a very skimpy costume, then proceed to blow up and get all offended if you say they look nice.
