On many 35+ characters, particularly on servers where Mothership Raids are common, Vanguard Merits accumulate like snow in a blizzard. Once you've bought all of the Vanguard costume pieces, and whichever temp powers you may or may not have an affinity for, what do you do with the merits that are left in your inventory? Sure, you could just sit on them and do nothing, but you'll continue to earn them no matter what as long as you're fighting Rikti. Why not make them useful in other areas of the game?
My suggestion is this: make it so that you can buy 1 regular merit from the Vanguard base for every 100 Vanguard merits you acquire. 1,000 Vanguard merits would then equal 10 regular merits. It's not enough of a difference to be game-changing, and it makes those more-or-less useless Vanguard merits really mean something, which could lead to more servers hosting more Mothership Raids, which would lead to a greater sense of community.

I'm interested, Kulty, but I don't know if I can find an 8-man team willing to run the same toons for four different TFs. All my friends (and I) are altaholics.

It might seem like your scrappers are very very squishy at first, but so is EVERYTHING. Try /willpower (Katana/Willpower if you want extra defense bonuses) and actually level it up. Even slotted with just SOs or basic invention IOs...it can be a pretty amazing thing.

Blasters can be difficult depending on your playstyle, but it's hard to really bork any character in CoH. I have an archery/ice blaster I love, and actually, archery/anything blasters are a lot of fun. Assault rifle/devices blasters have been pretty popular in the past, and devices offers a lot of fun toys.
As other players have already said, try everything until you find something you love! And ask for help if you need it! And don't worry about getting to 50, this game is all in the journey!

A member of the KJSR.net staff acted out in an unprofessional manner and that has been, and will continue to be, addressed. I am disappointed in the way the entire situation was handled-yes, it should have remained private, and yes, it should have involved no one outside of the persons involved. I would like to apologize on behalf of the KJSR.net staff and crew, as well as personally, for letting things get out of control. Because Protector takes all the little things the other servers have that make them great, puts them in a blender, and makes margaritas out of them.
No, seriously, I think the only gamer crowd not represented on this server is PVP. -

I was going to mention the Teamsters, but apparently my job has been done for me, so I'll just say that if you're looking for a supergroup (we are primarily blueside players, although we do have some villains) that likes to add a little roleplay to their butt-kicking, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have and get you an invite to the family.

You may want to head for the tech forums and ask there, too. The tech people usually have a lot of great insight into problems like this. Also, do a forums search and see if anyone else has had a similar problem and see what answers they got.
You might also want to run basic maintenance on your system-check for viruses, defrag, and reboot. -
I think it'll be neat to see what happens, either way...you can never have too many options!
