Healing Flames isn't the only power that needs to be improved. Fire could use a boost in multiple areas.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. Burn could use a redesign, more for tankers than brutes, but it's not too useful for brutes either. Temperature Protection isn't useful. Still, for brutes the key powers are mostly good, and I don't want to take all the powers. I need to fit in some pool powers. If they get the key powers like Healing Flames working well, my brute is happy, although my tanker would still have some complaints.

    [ QUOTE ]
It is horrible...in PvP. I wasted 39 of my first CoV levels on a dark/fire brute.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL. Sorry, you have no sympathy from me there.

I have great fun with my Fire/Fire. Still my favorite villain combo.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
However, it chafes at others that their choices are so limited by the relative penalty they suffer for foregoing these pools. The resulting build involves 5 toggles, 3 pool and 2 FA(It takes approx 10 seconds to activate them all by the way, not a big deal until you fight end-draining enemies who force you to retoggle after every fight. Not counting Blazing Aura since it's an optional offensive toggle.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wimp that I am, I only use one pool power toggle in combat... Hover. And that activates almost immediately, So my overall activation time only involves the two armor toggles.

I'm looking forward to the Healing Flames fix. I wonder if there's any hope that it will arrive in time for I7? Hot Topic could definitely use it. A healing boost on top of that would be even better.

    "I got a rock"

    [ QUOTE ]
So does anyone still have a rock?

    Will the rocks return someday?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whoa, a thread back from the grave...

My character Kiriko still has a rock. The next Holloween event may provide some rocks, if we get to go trick-or-treating again.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
If you read the description on the character creation scree ( I didn't until the third time)

It expressly says no heal and no toxic resistance.

Which makes thsi set unique in 2 bad ways
    1) The only resistance based set with no heal power
    2) The only "armor" set without Toxic resistance or defense. Seriously EVERY SINGLE OTHER SET has some amount of toxic resistance.

That's bad form devs too many holes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't mind the lack of toxic resistance so much, since the set has good psionic resistance instead. It's just the lack of a self heal plus the status effect holes that bother me. But I agree that there are too many holes.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Lack of KB protection is -not-, I repeat NOT a major issue in a set with this much utility.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. The point I keep making is that it's lack of knockback protection AND lack of immobilization protection AND lack of a self heal. I can cover for any one of those easily enough.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Well, I'm going to offer up what is probably going to be a completely wacky idea: change power sink to have the same effects as Energy Absorption from the Ice Armor line. This would give it pretty much the same qualities it has now but with the added bonus of +Def. It wouldn't be much, but might help in large battles so that you get hit a bit less.

Sure, it's no self-heal, but it could help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't even factor Power Sink in to the set, since it doesn't become available until level 35. I'm not going to struggle and wait that long. I want the set to be fun right away. Fun for a brute secondary means I can take a beating in a fight, with what is for me a reasonable downtime between fights.

Sure, after 35 (probably after re-balancing everything with a respec) the set could probably do well. I could drop Stamina, making room for all the powers I want and need, and my incentive tray would have plenty of room for green pills. But I don't powerlevel, and I can't figure out any kind of build that would be reasonable to get me to 35.

After nearly two years playing, I only have three characters that have made it to 35. So for any characters I make now, the post-30 powers aren't even projected in my builds.

Leaping Pool and Medicine Pool ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like I said... which one pool? That's two.

Personally I have one leaper, and that's enough. I'll find something else to go with Electric Melee.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
With the ability to fix the weaknesses in the set with just one powerpool I'd say its a fairly good trade to the number 1 killer of all brutes. A complete lack of endurance.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which one power pool would that be?

Remember, we're not just talking about a lack of knockback protection here. We're talking about a lock of knockback protection AND a lack of immobilization protection AND a lack of a self heal. That's a tricky combination of weaknesses to counter, and I don't see one pool that will do it.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Why does it have to have knockback resistance? WHy does it have to have immobilize resistance? Shouldn't the set have inherent weaknesses that you could choose to cover with pools or ignore and play to the sets strength?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like we've said many times before, it's not the existence of holes that is really the problem here, it's the number of big holes. You have no knockback protection AND no immobilization protection AND no self heal. (I'm more than willing to overlook the lack of toxic resistance due to the psionic resistance.) I don't mind the lack of knockback protection with my Fire/Fire. I can compensate for one or two big holes.

The combination of several big holes can be tough to overcome. If I load up on pool powers to compensate, I have fewer primary and secondary powers to work with.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
lol, Invincibility IS the set sorry, having the -5% defense from Unyielding and needing tough hide to even come out even. Properly slotted it has always been the backbone of the set. Now with the scaling of defense it makes it that much more important.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh I don't think so. Unyielding is the backbone, even with its defense debuff. You need the status effect protection. Then for me comes Temporary Invulnerability, then Dull Pain. Invincibility is WAY low in priority. I face an average of two enemies at a time, and the tiny defense I'd get from Invincibility isn't worth the endurance cost.

Actually, I'm not interested in Invulnerability for brutes. The defense isn't worth it playing solo, and the resistances are weak to everything except smashing and lethal. It's really a team oriented set. With a team, Invincibility becomes fairly useful. But I'd still take Invulnerability over Electric, just because I'd have solid status effect protection and a good hit point boost/heal.

Electric would be exciting, I'll give it that, but I just don't see any build with it that I'd like to play.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I play a lot of Brutes and I want to play an /elec Brute too.

But if /Elec had a "Dull Pain", why play /Inv?
    /Elec would = /Inv + Quickness + Slow/EndDrain/TP-resist + Hold-after-"Unstoppable"-crash

(*including leaping pool to close other gaps)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not exactly. Invuln has invincibility. There have been many long posts analysing why the defense from invincibility is like 70% of the set's survivability. Adding Dull Pain would still leave Elect armour as an entirely resist set. *shrug* Whatever.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, must have missed those long analyses of Invincibility. I can't see Invincibility taking on 10% of the survivability for my builds and play style. On the other hand, Invulnerability gets protection to immobilization and knockback, as well as repel. It lacks resistance to psionic but has resistance to toxic available.

I don't think a self heal would make Electric like Invulnerability. And I don't think a hit point boost is really needed for Electric, but a simple self heal would be good. I don't mind the lack of knockdown protection in Fire and Dark, but those have self heals in them.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
The +1 enemies were/are a bug? Huh. Considering that difficulty levels 2 and 4 take the higher level spawns into account, I guess that bug has turned into a feature. -_o

    [/ QUOTE ]

The bug back then (which was fixed) wasn't that there were +1 enemies in missions... it was that there were too many +1 enemies in missions. All the bosses were +1. And keep in mind that in those days there was no mission difficulty slider and bosses weren't downgraded to lieutenants. It could make things pretty difficult at low levels!

Statesman's comment was a prelude to boosting the hit points and damage of all enemies past level 22 in Issue 3... on test. That never made it live. First it got downgraded so just bosses and AVs were boosted, then downgraded again so it was just AVs that were boosted when Issue 3 went live.
  13. [ QUOTE ]

CoV just doesn't have enough content yet (especially in the higher levels) to warrent having any contacts as being secret

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's my concern. It feels as if we're expected to do the unlockable contents to fill in the gaps. But most players aren't going to have the information on unlockable contacts, and may never realize they even exist. These contacts should be an interesting alternative to existing content, but the existing content is lacking in places.
  14. Hmm, the OP did say Hasten was needed too. I disagree on that. It's easy to fill up on attack powers. The only real reason to have Hasten is to get Consume to recycle more often, which is only important if you're blowing through endurance quickly. Personally I don't have a problem managing endurance, but then I don't have Blazing Aura.
  15. Personally I think Blazing Aura is way overrated. I didn't take it. The AoE damage is offset by the high endurance cost. It's nice to have if you want to go heavy on AoE damage, but I prefer a single target approach (which is quite possible given the five single target attacks).

And being a little bit of a rebel, I went with Fly instead of Super Jump, with Hover used for knockback protection instead of Acrobatics. Hover isn't quite as good for that as Acrobatics, but it's available earlier, and I much prefer to fly.
  16. Some people just want a travel power that does everything. Fast and versatile. Fly and Hover have a lot of advantages, which is offset by slower speed and a high endurance cost for Fly. If you make Fly faster, why take Super Jump or Super Speed?

I've noticed a big drop in the number of super speeders, although I still see them here and there. They used to be very much FotM. People liked the speed and the stealth and kept complaining about obstacles. Oddly, I don't remember seeing too many complaints about Super Jump.

I'm not wild about the suppression in Fly, but I don't think it's any worse than the big accuracy penalty it replaced. I can live with the top speed, especially since it's a good speed to zip around inside door missions. Hover is meant to be very slow, and gives me a good ranged firing platform. The endurance cost of Fly isn't really a problem if you slap an endurance reduction enhancemnt or two in it, since it's not meant as a power to be used in combat (switch to Hover or land).

I currently have 23 characters with Fly and another who will be picking it up next level.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I'd feel alot better if in all the posts prior to the actual issue 7 announcement they had stated that they were giving new power sets for villains only rather than just new power sets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it would have been nice if they had said that Issue 7 content in general would be focused on CoV. Still, they gave no hint on any new content for CoH, so I wasn't expecting anything. I was hoping they might have slipped in some useful content for CoH, but oh well. Maybe next time.

    [ QUOTE ]
All I want for CoH is villain costumes and newspaper missions. They just get those in, I'll be fine....

I reeeealllllllllllly hope they got brokers in. >_<

    [/ QUOTE ]

How the heck would brokers fit into CoH?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Police chiefs and a police scanner.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah.. buit the whole CoV contact system is based on brokers, CoH is not. Other then an occational hero version of a heist, what would be the point?

    [/ QUOTE ]

To let me get to level 40 in CoH! (In a way that's fun for me.)

    Sigh.
  19. I am most grateful.

    In other words:

    YES!!!
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
We also need to add more Contacts from levels 35-40.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not to be rude, but... Aren't you still working on this _same_exact_issue_ in CoH...that has been out a year and a half?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's what I was thinking.

I don't know whether to be encouraged or discouraged. Well, at least he knows about the problem.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
If you're out of Supergroup mode, Bling isn't really much of an accomplishment, it's an inevitability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But just barely. I got Bling at level 30 (no super group), just on the verge of outleveling Doc Buzzsaw.
  22. Well, if I ever get another villain up to that level, and I have a lot of time to spare, I might look into it.

Or not. I really wish they had done it more like they did with Henri Dumont. By the time you find Henri, you'll probably already have the badge by doing missions from the other contacts; and if not, Scrapyarders are easy enough to find in Sharkhead.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
[Also if you solo a lot you may run out of other content before you get to level 35 so unless you want to run Newspaper missions for a level or possibly more then having an extra contact can be handy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well that's just it. I ran out of useful content during level 33. I used newspaper missions to get to 35. I'd prefer doing missions from a contact.

But for all I know the Slot Machine sends me up against an AV the first mission. Or only has six missions to offer. I don't know. I decided that the newspaper missions beat grinding for hours to get a badge for a contact that might not have much useful content, or any useful content for me at all.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
That really doesn't tell me anything useful...

Not much more to say without spoilers. All I can tell you is I thought it was worth the effort.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shrug. All I can tell is that you think it has some amusing dialogue. I'm not going to waste my time chasing down bosses for hours on end for that.

Perhaps a Wailer (all, not just bosses) badge would be more appropriate, since the Wailers are a relevant threat in the zone and have a story tied to the pyramid.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Since I don't know whether the missions from this contact are even worth doing, I didn't bother trying to get the badge.

The Slot Machine is hilarious...worth the effort.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That really doesn't tell me anything useful...
