Unfortunately, the boots were enormous and didn't look right on her at all (and Valerie is an Amazonian-type warrior, too). I don't know if they had the men's boots accidently for the female builds or what, but they just didn't look right at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can choose a different kind of boots, like stilettos, then choose the Valkyrie skin and then the Valkyrie pattern (if that makes sense). Essentially under boots you would see Stiletto - Valkyrie - Valkyrie. This will give you some boots that match the rest of the outfit, but without being so oddly bulky. I think the gloves might work the same way.

    Like this.

If there weren't people who were interested in getting the pack right when it came out, you might not have that 2 week peroid to buy the thing. It's the people that buy it when it comes out that are those same people that give those reviews that let you make your decision in that 2 week span.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A lot of people bought it right away just because of all the pictures of the male costume pieces. They knew at least that they'd be getting those. If I wanted those items, I'd be buying the pack without waiting for reviews too. Thanks to the reviews, I know that there are additional items that I want, so I'll be buying the pack.

Well I have no broadsword toons. I bought for the teleporter that is practically useless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Next time don't be so quick with the credit card. Wait to find out what the limitations are. Personally, I didn't expect the mission teleporter to be all that useful most of the time, just handy every long once in a while, and that's fine by me. Of course, I typically play at least a few different characters each play session, so the mission teleporter should work out pretty well for me.

Having been reassured by the recent screenshots of female characters in valkyrie gear, I'll probably be buying the set before long.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Maybe it's that I'm cheap, but hey you guys, if you buy the 19.99 verson now, you also get 30 days. Well, you pay 15/mo anyways, so you're getting what you pay for + the goodies for only an additional $5 bucks.

    Why wait til it's $9.99? 15+10=25.

    You're welcome.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm waiting and hoping to see what the costumes look like. What I've seen so far doesn't look very valkyrie-like.

That's why I said "almost entirely". That's the only picture of a female valkyrie outfit I've seen. If that's all there is to the female set, I'm not really interested.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what i've been told , the set has all the features shown for all three body types. Like the cyborg set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speaking of which, I haven't seen any good pictures of the female version of the cyborg set either. I didn't get that set. I like to know what I'm getting before I pull out the credit card.

I'd just like to be reassured that there are female versions of the costume items, and that they look good. Considering that a valkyrie is traditionally female, it's odd that the pictures have focused almost entirely on male characters.

But the mission teleporter is tempting, even with the two hour recharge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here is a link to the city scoop article I did on the pack a few weeks back. There is a screenshot of the female Valkyrie set

OMG, the Mission Teleporter works ACROSS zones. I just TP'd from the St. Martial Facemaker to the Fab in Grandville.

There's a mission at the Fab?
    (I've never done one there.)

After playing some more, my conclusion is still the same: no point in even worrying about merits, as I'll never earn enough to get anything I actually want.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same here. Under the old system, the only way to get the rare recipes was to either grind task forces or play the market. Under the new system, since the Merit drops for storyarcs are so small, you still have to grind TFs or play the market. Only it takes longer thanks to diminishing returns.

This doesn't really impact me, since I was never getting the Super Shineys anyway. But I do kind of resent having this promise of Merits dangled in front of me, only to find out that it hasn't really changed anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never expected merits to change anything for me. They were originally advertised as something new for TFs and trials, and I don't do those. Later I found out that they also replace the table awards for story arcs.

If I just use the merits to buy enhancements, that seems to average out to the same rewards as before, so I'm not losing anything. That works for me. Plus, instead of buying enhancements, I now have the option of saving up the merits to someday eventually maybe be able to buy a useful recipe. I'm not sure if that will ever really be useful, but it's an option that I didn't have before.

Since they didn't go in as advertised, replacing the TF/trial reward tables instead of adding to them, I don't see merits as a very useful addition. But I do see them as an extremely minor improvement over what I had before.
  10. Favorite:

    - More Real Numbers! I'm not a min/max type, but I do like to see what I'm buying.

    Runner-ups:

    - Hollows revamp. I'm actually making good use of the zone now. I used to avoid it like the plague in the lower levels.

    - Powerset Proliferation. I'm enjoying Storm Summoning for masterminds and Earth Control for dominators, among other things.
  11. Objective: The Winter's Gift IO set is pretty expensive at 130 candy canes. At a rate of one candy cane per several presents, or 5 per Baby New Year mission, it's really hard to avoid grinding to get them.

Subjective: I would like to see a more fun way to obtain the Winter's Gift enhancements. Something to think about for next year.
Also, I think that the required times for the Bobsled medals are too low. I haven't been able to get a silver without a jumping power, and I can just forget about getting a gold. It seems that jumping powers are factored into the times, and the high level jumping limit is factored into the gold. Other than that, it's a fun and very well designed course.
  12. Much of what the Candy Cane guy offers can be acquired by beating on Snaptooth. And some of it is pretty cheap. Only 10 candy canes for the Frosty badge and Santa boots! I can get 10 candy canes fairly quickly.

Holiday events should be Focused on FUN, in a game like this where many of us have BUNCHES of characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is fun for players like me who have BUNCHES of characters. Your problem is that you're equating the event with collecting everything for any given character.

I look and see a new bobsled course and say "Cool! That's a nifty ride!" I zip down, and with a little practice I pick up a badge. I don't need all three badges. One is nice. Maybe later I might figure out how to boost my time, but I'm not concerned about that.

I do the Baby New Year mission and pick up a badge that my Ice/Axe tanker didn't have. Well, okay, I do it one more time and get another appropriate badge. Snaptooth is resistant to lethal damage, and I've used up my good inspirations, so I won't bother to do the mission for that character any more this year. Maybe next year.

I plan to cycle through all my characters, and pick up a few things for each of them. That's fun. No grinding for me.

I might even get Toy Collector for a few of my characters who have already accumulated significant progress on the badge from previous years.

    5. Some day job locations count for two rewards at once. Examples include standing in one particular spot between the Talos base teleporter and train station, and some of the villains' Black Helicopter locations. You only accrue time for one job, but it's not clear which, and it's too confusing to have overlapping job zones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I'm pretty sure you get time for both.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I noticed that some of my characters have been accumulating time towards three day job badges while parked at the Talos base portal: Monitor Duty, Commuter, and Patroller.

We get Patroller anywhere, but it's interesting that we're able to get that many jobs at once.
  16. Thanks to the cheaper prices, I was able to expand my two multiplayer bases significantly. They didn't have rent to pay before, but they do now. Since I have several characters in each group and I play them regularly, paying the cheap rent for those two bases is no big deal.

I love the change to object pathing in the bases. I can now put teleporter beacons right next to the teleporters, rather than finding other walls to put them on. I can merge objects together, creating some nifty effects. For example, just today I buried a couple torches in a floor dome, leaving just the flames emerging out of the dome.

On the downside, there is a rent problem, despite the cheap values. If I want storage racks or empowerment stations in my small, single character bases, I need to go pay rent. It's not that much of an effort to travel to Atlas Park or Port Oakes to pay the rent a few times a month... but doing that 39 times a month would be very annoying. Most players don't have anywhere near that many bases, so I probably shouldn't expect my personal issues to infuence things. It does reduce the functionality of many of my bases, though, since I need to have most of my bases remain rent free.

    Issue 13: BUGS

Server: Liberty, Triumph, Protector, Guardian, Pinnacle
    Zone: Sharkhead
    Character name: multiple characters
    Time: 4 Dec - 5 Dec
    Location: Sharkhead base portal
    Mission: N/A
    Mission Contact: N/A
Bug Description: No day job credit at the Sharkhead base portal. I've had a number of characters logged out there, but they've gained no progress for the badge even though the day job buff icon shows up. I have made progress for base portal locations in numerous other zones.

Perhaps accolades and badges should also be available at the merit store.

I'm not greedy. I just want some of those TF costume items to be available.

    Poster: TheWeaver
Q: What impact are you expecting the merit system to have on those of us who (for one reason or another) tend not to run TF/SF's?

A: The intention of the system was to also give players who don’t tend to run Task Forces and Strike Forces the chance at earning the same high end rewards as players normally running Task Forces, however at a diminished rate. This gives player an opportunity to earn rewards they normally would not have had access to outside of the Black Market/Wentworth’s.

    [/ QUOTE ] (emphasis added)

Unbelievable. This game has now officially become City Of TFs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Pool C and D recipes weren't previously available to players who didn't do TFs and trials, except through consignment houses. Did that mean that the game was City of TFs before? Those recipes are now available to players who don't do TFs and trials.

The diminished rate now is better than the no rate I had previously.

People who didn't do TFs and trials before are probably going to be even less interested in doing them now. I know that's the case for me.

If you are in the population that never does tfs hates the markets and solos story arcs its a plus.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is there some reason you think these three things go together?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Must me talking about me.
(Well, I don't hate the market, but I don't use it much.)

Yes, the new merit system is a plus for me. I see the current incarnation as an overall nerf for players, but for me it will give me access to a number of recipes that are currently beyond me. It will take me a long time to accumulate enough merits to buy anything, but I'll get there some day.

So... sorry, folks, but I can't really complain about the new merit system.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Two questions. One, why do people see merits as a replacement rather than an option? If you want the random roll option, you can use the random roll option. The only difference is that you have to go to a merit vendor to do it rather then rolling on the spot. Okay, and that some TF's will give you less than one random roll (while others will give you more.) But it is still an option. It hasn't disappeared.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because on average you'd get a lot more random recipe drops through the old system. I was including the random rolls through the vendor in my assessment.

    [ QUOTE ]
Two, why not buy the -KB IO with inf instead? You don't have to rely on merits to get it. Did I miss something and something is going to happen to Pool A drops? If not, the supply will be more or less the same.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My two characters who received the knockback protection recipe drops didn't have a use for them, and aren't on the same servers as the characters who could really use them. The characters who could really use them don't have the inf necessary to purchase them.

But that doesn't really matter, because I'll be able to get knockback protection using the dual builds come I13. It's a little awkward, but I can mix some roleplaying into it.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
The one thing that bothered me about Synapse's response to my queries was that while the issue with Steadfast Protection vs. Karma KB protection drops is going to be addressed, it's being addressed (IMO) in the wrong way.

Neither recipe is unique, which is the only slotting restriction that exists that modifies prices consistently in the merit window. Both of them are going to cost 50% more than every other non-unique uncommon recipe in Pool A.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, this bothers me too. I was hoping to get the knockback protection IOs through merits for a couple of my characters... someday. It would take me a very long time to get 50 merits. For 75, I might as well forget about it, and make use of dual builds to gat Acrobatics. But that's no real loss, since I don't have the knockback protection IOs now. It's just a minor disappointment.

Any way I look at it, merits are a nerf to the existing system. If they had been an option instead of a replacement, they could have allowed some to save for something good, while others could grab the random recipes. This will significantly slow down players' ability to get a large number of recipes. If I cared about the rare recipes or the market, I might be concerned about that. Fortunately this doesn't affect me much. I do understand the problems other players will be having though.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Goodluck everyone trying to slot out your toon's 2nd build done when you can't get merits and anything you find that gives merits faster than they like will get nerfed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I think I can come up with enough funding to fill up the second build with SOs eventually.

Who knows, I might even toss some common IOs in there...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
1 Numina's Unique is 250 Merits...That's 5 Posi runs on 1 guy. How casual of a gamer can you be and still have time to do that and nothing else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How casual a gamer can you be and want a Numana's Unique?

My characters get maybe a few pool A recipe sets during their careers. Four or five if I'm feeling ambitious. The build you posted is alien to me. I seriously doubt there are very many casual gamers who would attempt such a thing now, let alone after I13 goes live.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
If we *have* to have rent for some reason, please make it more convenient. Either have an auto-pay option, or add a payment option to the base access screen, or make any trainer accept payments. Put a base registrar in Pocket D. Put a credit card slot in the city information terminals. Any of the above will make the fact that I'm going to have to start paying rent on my bases much less irritating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. If I were to add a salvage storage rack to each of my bases, I would have to run off to Atlas Park and Port Oakes 38 times a month to pay rent. Because I have 38 bases. That's a lot travel time.

Currently, I am paying rent on NONE of my bases. So this is a big change for me.

As it is, I'll have to seriously limit the functionality of most of my bases so that I'll only have to pay rent on a few of my bases.
