    .
This is true, of all the MMOs I've played (which is not a huge list but probably high single figures), this is the one where I've come across most "one MMO only" or "first MMO" players.

Some of these people spend ages patching, realise the first character they log in (their favourite with all the IOs) is unplayable, log out/uninstall and give up, and we only find out months later IRL by chance that they ever came back, and meanwhile they've spread a load of bad publicity about the F2P offering. They never find out about the cheap license.

Many people playing free are doing so because they don't want to commit any cash to the game for a while (I've had a couple of unemployed friends who did so and resubbed when they got another job). They knew that they might be resubbing, so were not going to ruin IO builds just so they could play them in the interim. If you lose their interest by making the toons they want to play unplayable, maybe they never come back.

Also burning one of their say 4 or 5 character unlocks on a toon that's unplayable is not good.

What's to be lost by making IOd toons playable at SO levels ? which is what the content is balanced around.

Edit: also most of my friends are european subscribers to the US servers. If you're short of cash hence buying points in small quantities, you can get hit with a flat currency exchange charge each time you buy points which with the European currency weakness makes the license cheap but not as cheap for us as you think.

Really? Seriously? No "slap in the face"? Surely you can come up with more absurd hyperbole than "completely unusable"?

As an alternative I offer the following which would be an actually true statement:

"...who have logged in as premiums and realised that they had slotted IOs in all their powers so now they had unenhanced powers and insuffiecient influence to get SOs for all their powers and found their gameplay completely unsatisfactory."

And yes, that does stink. But when you guys fly off the handle with absurd hyperbole you end up dealing with people pointing out how ridiculous it sounds instead of working towards resolving the real problem.
Except that some of them had 2 builds full of IOs on their favourite toon, so they would have to junk a load of IOs to get a usable toon. They'd also used one of their few unlocks on a character they can't use.

That being said, as has been mentioned, the licenses are a mere 180 Paragon Points/Month. Also, I'm not sure when you left the game, but did you know that you can use an alternate build to play with as well? Visit any trainer and you can switch your active build to another one. Many of our returning players keep a SO/HO based build in that slot, in case they decide to revert to premium status from VIP.

Rest assured, all content available for Free/Premium players is balanced around Single Origin enhancements being used. Thanks to the adjusted difficulty option, our VIP/Premium players who have access to IO's can enjoy the same content at a higher difficulty, if they so choose.

Again, welcome back, and I will be sure to convey your sentiment along.
Zwillinger, I'm VIP so this doesn't affect me, but I know several people who have logged in as premiums, realised their toons are completely unusable and given up.

Is it possible to find out why the decision was taken as it was to render IOs useless, rather than allowing them to give their enhancement bonuses (scaled down a bit if you want) but no set bonuses, thus leaving the toons playable.
  7. Looking at Nemu's build, this gives me something to work with.

It appears: I've lost assault (no big deal), charged armor (massive deal, if I get hit by non ranged stuff it will hurt a lot more), mind probe which I quite like but is not essential and EM pulse (no big deal). I've also swapped a slow hold that does decent damage for a faster one that doesn't which is fine, and lost quite a bit of recharge out of drain psyche, aim and concentration, with stamina down to the bare bones which I don't like.

If I'm not going to slot a set in blizzard, I can save a slot by slotting the 6th (pure dam) ragnarok and a damage. So that allows me to either put a recharge into DP or another endmod into stamina, or add some more resist to SoP (or charged armor if I replace it with that).

Might try to give this a go and see how it actually plays.

A set of AT IOs is 3.125% ranged def, so that's another option.

    Oops

I made a more expensive mistake in percentage terms, but much less in monetary terms. A load of digits were retained that weren't displayed in the bid window, meaning when I tried to bid 1001 for something really cheap, I actually bid 1001001.
  9. OK, so I got to permahasten levels of recharge without getting much defence, can you improve on this please:

But then I play against +3/4s that don't insta die quite a lot, if you're facerolling 0/+1s, not an issue, nothing left to shoot back.

This is fine provided what you're doing isn't getting squishies killed, if it is, expect to be told or kicked. Depending on what form you're in, can be very easy to get squishies killed with radial KB.

Follow the tank is a good default to avoid wipes, unless the tank is being an idiot and going over his aggro cap all the time, but for many toons and teams is unnecessary.
  13. Without going through my 200 ish toons, I must be around the B-C borderline, it tends to matter whether I've just purpled out a toon or am saving up.

I did a new startup on a fresh server a while ago with a level 1 with absolutely nothing other than my vet rewards (pre freedom, so no excessive prebought storage, and no AE ticket abuse to inflate the cash). Without doing anything risky (like buying anything for more than 10M), I finished up about 6 weeks later with a well IOd out level 50, field crafter and 3BN in the bank having operated in SG mode throughout and built a fully functional base. I did level a few alts to 6 or 10 to sell stuff. Making inf on the market is easy.

Incidentally, could you possibly post the data chunk for that build? I mean, I commented on your explanation of it, but I honestly can't read the build itself off text. It's possible I might feel differently if I knew what all of that stuff was, but I just don't know enough about Set Inventions to be able to extrapolate from the short form.
You can actually highlight/copy the build without the data chunk and import it into mids, I did so with Arcanaville's post, occasionally it will leave the odd power unslotted but it's not difficult to fill it out when only one or two powers are missed.

    Botched ritual.

If you make certain choices in the Valentines mission from Ms Lib, you can get a "botched ritual" debuff. A bit like the crey narcotic or Vahz plague ones you can pick up.

I don't think I got the debuff (or didn't notice I had it), so either it's avoidable if you read the mission description or it's not that severe.
  16. Another thought, how veteran are you ? 2 slotting some passives with common 50 IOs and using enhancement boosters should be a viable option for getting very close to 3 SO value.

I'm not quite sure what that "something" might be, but I strongly suspect the sets themselves might choose for me. Foot Stomp uses PBAoE sets, of which a LOT more go to 50, but having looked at them, not many grab my eye.

My choices are Cleaving Blow, Multi-Strike, Scirocco's Dervis and Obliteration. I looked at both Scirocco's Dervish and Obliteration, but they contain a lot of rare and undoubtedly pricey stuff, including a proc, which I don't want. Maybe another time. Between Cleaving Blow and Multi-Strike, the choice seems simple on the face of it, as Cleaving Blow only has four enhancements to its name, and I have six slots in Foot Stomp. As one of Crash's signature moves, I want to make good use of those. I suppose I could stick four Cleaving Blow enhancements in there and finish remaining slots with either Multi-Strike or basic Commons, but I like the look of Multi-Strike for the moment. Its set bonuses ARE mostly defence, after all, and all of its enhancements are Uncommon, which means the salvage for them is dirt cheap. In fact, I'm not sure there's any point to building this from drops, since I can't rely on drops for the enhancements and it's more trouble to look for Common Salvage drops when they sell for so little on the Market.

I'm still working out how many of which enhancement aspect I want, but I found it's simpler to look at the set's effects not as a package, but rather to add up the total number of effects the set provides and extrapolate from there. It won't be exactly simple math, but I suspect I'll develop a head for the numbers once I play with them. I didn't see a meaningful increase in damage between the A/E/D/D/D/R Common slotting Knockout Blow had before it got Crushing Impact, but all of the other aspects increased in scale, so that's a gain. I'm not sure by how much yet, but I'm working on it.

Honestly, if I can stick to all Uncommon sets, I'd be happy with it.

I suppose the next question is what I'm going to do with all my OTHER powers that DON'T have six slots in them I suppose matching their current slotting should be a priority before I try moving slots around.
Footstomp I would add a wrinkle. 5 multistrikes and the force feedback chance of +rech would be my cheapo slotting. The FF proc costs next to nothing but takes one piece of rare salvage to make, and I find it dead useful in footstomp for recharging footstomp fast (it has a chance of procing off every foe you hit).

Edit - also beware of cleaving blow, an uncommon set, but some of them use rare salvage to make.
  18. I would like to attend this year. I'm a US subscriber without my own computer, does it need a different installation ?

I've expressed interest in previous years, but having to do the trip Norwich->Birmingham on one of the neighbouring weekends for an OU revision thing has got in the way. Having graduated now, I'm free to attend.

I can create or transfer characters across to union/defiant/exalted as required.

One piece of advice I put in previous threads, if you're coming by train, try breaking your journey down into bits, it can be much cheaper. eg singles Norwich to Peterborough and Peterborough to Birmingham and vice versa can be a lot cheaper than a return Norwich-Birmingham if you prebook.
  19. I haven't read the whole thread, so not sure if this has been said already, but one thing you can do is to make a second build, and start slotting it out while you're using your SO build to actually play. This allows you to store the necessary IOs. When the build is complete enough, switch over, if you ever go F2P, you have an SO build to use.

Frankenslotting will make you a build that is better than SOs, but not as good as an IO build. It basically allows you to save some slots, as you can do in 4-5 IOs what takes 6 SOs. I have one frankenslotted character which I use pretty much exclusively for exemping (so no set bonuses to lose) and works very well.

What you should be asking for is new tech that allows toggles and passives to remain on when activating the hoverboard if the toggles are already on, but not to be activated if they're off. That would prevent people from using animations while on the board, but would still allow toggles and passives to remain on.
That's exactly what's being asked for, activating a power to turn a toggle on should deactivate the rocket board first and thus not need a new animation, but stuff that is pre-existing should stay up.

  23. Another vote for suppression, the code already exists for this IIRC from one of the buildings in praetoria. Your toggles don't work or animate while on the rocket board, but are still there when you get off.

This was actually how I thought it was going to work, I wouldn't have bought the hover board had I realised.
