I didn't feel the need to for the same reasons I didn't go into detail about Safeguards, Mayhems, and the Arena maps. It is a specific location, not a "I'm in this zone" type of explore.

I could be wrong, only done the trial 2 or 3 times and not in the last year but I think because of the water there is no visible marker for it which is why I suggested this. The explore I hear asked about most often on the badge channels I frequent is egg hunter which is fiddly to find and might merit some directions even though it's just a standard badge.

No. Badges that you have to click the object (presents, bombs, heavy control panels, etc) only the person doing the clicking the object will get the badge credit. The only exceptions are the pillbox badges in RV.

My bad, pillboxes being an accomplishment badge I looked for the info in that section. I suspect this may not be an uncommon thing for people to do as they'll come to this guide with a specific problem and just go to the appropriate section rather than reading the whole guide. You might want to cross reference some of the stuff like that back to the general section or duplicate it in the relevant sections. I wrote some manuals in a previous life and know that in the mind of the users it's always your fault if the info's not where they expect to find it even if it is somewhere perfectly logical, and once they fail to find a couple of things, they stop using the guide/manual completely which would be a shame as there's lots of good stuff in there.

  2. A slight quibble with your descriptions of /loc. If you describe x as West-East , y should be South-North not North-South as the more positive you get the more West and South you go.

I was doing the 25-30 devouring earth arc hero side and the last two missions have pulsing crystals containing the will of the earth virus that spam heal the bad guys. When these spawned (ie when I got within a room or two of them, long before I could see them) framerate dropped to anywhere between 7 and 18.

  5. Three observations:

    1. Whatever rocket scientist decided to put carnies and malta on the same mission needs shooting, no end = no fun. Sappers are a particularly poor choice due to the modified aggro ranges.

    2. Skyway mayhem, 4 man team, I'm playing earth/rad. We go into police station, I use earthquake, quicksand and RI and everybody's frame rate goes through the floor. This isn't happening anywhere else in the game.

    3. I've done 2 non-solo SGs, and the only badge I've opened up is the signature villains one, despite the fact that one of these was the PI one, and the other Skyway, so I've done all the 7 available sides. I can understand the bombs working the same as the arson (both wrong IMHO, share the credit), but if the others are only credited to the toon that fires the last shot, there will be a lot of low damage types that will be really struggling to get them.

That is false, a /poison MM with Nox Gas with enough applications in melee range will drop both...BOTH rooted and granite just a lil FYI

    [/ QUOTE ]

While granite armor provides some status protection, I have had malta hold or stun me through it and many things knock me back while in it. It cannot however be toggle dropped by brawl etc in PvP.

The only thing that has taken my stone tank out one on one PvP is a rad/psi defender who is very well equipped to do so, and if we were using insps I could easily have lasted 10 mins for a draw. The issue PVP is that you're unlikely to kill anybody as they can just run/fly away from you and you have no mez prot that allows you to move quickly or get off the ground.

Also as said by other posters granite provides no protection against psionics. You have to wait till 38 for this uber protection as a brute, 32 as a tank. The -acc on granite was removed ages ago.

My brute has a pretty similar build to the one published here, but is more solo PvE focused so has gone AS/fly rather than taking TP and doesn't have taunt. My tank finds he needs every attack he can lay his hands on due to the -rchg in granite, hence that choice also. If you're going to PvP you need to have TP foe to have a chance of killing anything.

  10. Best comedy moment in CoH for me was the council/5th wars on the PI docks. I'm right up the far end playing my granite tank when a squad of 15 or so pops up all armed with their 'slow rifles'. Turning granite off would be instant suicide so I can't get over the lip on the edge of the docks. My powers aren't recharging at all so I decide to run at snail's pace down the docks. At this point I realise I have no greens, I've used earth's embrace and I'm going to die in the 10 minutes or so it's going to take me to get down the docks, even though theyre not doing much damage individually. Then an amused invisible blaster who'd been watching this unfold (they all had the stealth pool pre phase nerf) starts handing me greens, and I duly manage to escape after a total of about 15 minutes.

Being taken to Founders Falls for the first time (as a 20ish blaster) and helping an illusion controller (and his army of phantasms) sweep the area in the NW corner with all the behemoths, thinking wow these guys are good.

Trying to level an ice/storm controller pre containment in the late 20s when the most damage from anything I could do was about 25.

Thinking said ice/storm was finally competent at level 34 as her 3 jack frosts killed things, only to find they cut you to one when she was around level 36.

FWIW I don't believe you can comment on whether an AT is gimped or not until you've played one or played a lot with one up to about 46 or 47 and got well into the 45-50 content.

I don't play high level doms myself, my highest is only 18, but I do have 3 50 controllers (so I understand the primaries) and 2 of my most regular team mates with my 50 brute are doms (ice/ice and plant/thorns, and the ice/ice guy has 2 other doms in the 40s), in both small and large teams. What I hear is that they loved their doms up to 40, thought they sucked a bit 40-45 and a lot more after 45. The reason - lots of purple triangles, end drain and stuns in the high level missions. It's not fun to know that solo, one miss on the wrong malta minion and you're dead unless you have a BF or they miss you. At least the equivalent controller could have some mez protection with the right EPP.

My perception is that in most teams they pull their weight, until you come up against purple triangles, at which point any other AT is better unless you need the immobs to stop them running away.

Also 3 MMs or 3 corruptors in a team of 8 are great, 3 doms not good, you'd be better with any non stalker (and even that's debatable) instead of the 3rd one for normal play.

My preferred solution to make doms more useful in the purple triangle zone and PvP (it's been suggested before) is to have more of the holds etc have a lingering effect if they don't actually manage to hold the target. Like the slow that some of the ice holds have, maybe fire could have an ongoing smoke effect for -acc and/or -per for example.

My AOE hold is up almost every 2 minutes and holds for almost 30 seconds, that must really suck! (and thats without powerboost or domination).
oh and low damage sure, lessee blaze is up almost every 5 seconds and does 180 damge per pop to a white con minion. 250 with fiery embrace, nearly 300 with domination and fiery embrace.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes the person you're trying to shred was right, low damage and poor hold availability. If you're on a difficulty where you hold things for 30 seconds, then the rest of the team killed them in less than 10.

I'm not sure what the hold duration of the ice AoE hold is (the power lasts 30s base, but some of that is the debuff after the hold has worn off), but the fire one lasts 10s (just under 20 when 3 slotted v even cons). Against the sort of difficulty most good large teams play at, you might get 12-15s of hold and you wish it was more as +2s and +3s can outlast that particularly when bosses are involved.

Last time I played on a team of 5 at even level (on a SF which was why we didn't up the diff) I was playing a corruptor, and by the time I'd fired off tar patch, rain of fire and fireball and looked up, there was rarely anything left (possibly a boss, but not all mobs had one and usually the stalker plus AoEs sorted him out anyway). 30 seconds of hold would not have been desperately useful.

Again 300 damage may sound impressive, but against even cons (which I almost never fight) with my brutes I'm pushing 1000. My 41 EM/invul brute can do 800+ to yellows with a 600+ follow up, (an EM/fire could do even more) so 300 really is fairly puny, I suspect it's about what my third best attack does with a bit above half fury.

My fire/fire dom feels totally useless in the team in which he plays, not because doms suck, but because of the plant dom in the team who has seeds of confusion which seems to recharge every fight, so do I use flashfires or cinders ? hell no, just stops the mobs shooting each other, so I'm downgraded to being a bad corruptor/blaster till I get imps. Basically I do nothing an ice corruptor couldn't do better unless we screw up and aggro multiple mobs.

Disclaimer, figures quoted from hero builder, don't flame me if they're wrong.

My dominators have never been "crappy." Maybe you are just crappy as a dominator?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry to say I don't agree with this. One of my regular team mates plays doms almost exclusively and plays them well. He has ice/ice, grav/en, fire/en melee type and plant/thorns so a fair sample. He thoroughly enjoyed playing up to 40 and then found they started to suck with all the malta/carnie mezzing and end draining that turned up, and purple triangle AV/hero downgraded to EBs, even more so after 45.

If he as a devoted dominator player tells me they suck in the high level game, I'm inclined to agree with him.

I suspect some doms may hold domination back as a get out of jail, which may not improve their enjoyment but will improve their survivability a touch. A buff while dom is not up would help more, I certainly already feel uber while dom is running.

As an aside, playing mainly brutes myself I have been very disappointed with the high level (45+ particularly, but 40-45 too) game's reliance on end drain and EB/AVs with tier 9 god mode powers. Malta, carnies and longbow appear in far too high a proportion of the late game missions, and drain the fun out of play about as fast as the end for both solo doms and brutes. Plus a series of EBs you can't hold most of the time, and can't hit for several minutes at a time is not my idea of fun.

  18. Again I echo that the point is being missed by playing a plant dom, seeds of confusion is one of the best powers in the game and plant doms overpower all other dom primaries in the low to mid level game because of it.

As an aside, our SG has a team in which we all started the same toons at level 1, and only play these toons together one evening a week (currently level 17). Among the team of 8 are 3 doms, one mind, one fire and one plant. As the fire dom there is very little point in me taking any control powers, as all they do is incapacitate mobs that are shooting each other, and SoC seems to be up every fight.

Also Posi's only got to 37, so probably not solod that many Hero/AV cut down EBs. Most ATs can solo these, doms really struggle as their raison d'etre (control) just doesn't work because of the triangles. Also we tried a RSF with 2 doms, and really wished we had 2 more corruptors instead once we got to the last mish.

Compared to controllers, doms actually do way less damage because of containment, compare a fire/fire dom to a fire/kin troller. OK, both kick off with cinders then ? The dom uses his attacks for a reasonable amount of damage, the controller uses fulcrum shift, fireball (epic) etc with containment for mega damage.

Also not to be forgotten, many types of controller can buff their pets unlike doms which makes a huge difference.

  20. I had an issue with the PI mayhem mission jailbreak. Went down the elevator at which point there was a short delay where I could be damaged by the badguys, but couldn't activate any powers or take insps myself. This got me killed, suggest moving the badguys a little further from the vator.

Woke up in the cell, broke out, killed the transcendent, started breaking the villain out, and another transcendent turned up and killed me. Thought '£%& this' logged out and back in, bought new insps, reentered mission, powered up, came down the vator, no transcendent and no prisoner.

Also, I know transcendents' damage is being fixed, but the overlapping accuracy buffs need looking at. I normally have no probs with them, but with a lieut and 2 minions with him, the transcendent hit me 9 times in a row through 4 small purples, normally they are 1 in 10 or worse through that many.

My 50 ice/storm has snowstorm (largely for the -fly to solo paragon protectors) but not arctic air or shiver. The mass sleep is broken by ice slick so useless to me. I have superjump as my movement power so I can buy acrobatics for knockback protection. One thing you might wish to consider is choice of epic pools. My build is very defensive and so I chose psionics for some mez prot, but fire would be the offensive choice (out of the question for me for RP reasons). My standard routine is ice slick, freezing rain, move so that lightning storm will knock stuff onto the ice slick not off it and then cast it, all the while spamming the single target hold. I run the psi armor, steamy mist and acrobatics all the time. If I have somebody else to take aggro, I'll use the mass immob to give me containment for psionic tornado, otherwise I'll use glacier (or the mass disorient followed by mass immob) first.

I find the swirling hurricane graphics make me feel sick if I run them for longer than a few seconds, but I do find it useful to punt stuff onto the ice slick.

Scrappers out damage blasters in melee. Blasters AT mod is 1, while scrappers is 1.125. Scrappers also get unresistable criticals of 2x damage 5% of the time, which can be compared to Blasters 33% unresistable damage.

Energy Melee's Stuns coupled with toggle dropping pretty much make the damage a secondary effect. While the blasters (who have little or no mez protections) are used to functioning with break frees active, most scrappers are not, as they rely on their inherent protection powers to keep them safe.

The brute does less than 600 to an even level minion with full fury and whichever of aim/BU he gets, the blaster gets both aim and BU, and does about 750 - some secondary effect.

And while we're on the subject of Wardens...

What's up with the PBAoE damage toggle (Quills?) of Spines Wardens continuing to run after their held/disoriented/etc.?

That "bug" or whatever you want to call it, cost me a chunk of debt a few nights ago. The debt isn't really what made me mad about the situation though. I had been fighting that [bleep] [bleep]ing [bleep] for five to ten minutes tring to wittle his health down without dying. I hit and run fought that jerk through the entire mission map.

Finally I had him down to where I thought I could push back and take him down. I was at full health. He was at about 50% HP. Hit him with Total Focus, disoriented him, kept pounding away. Hit him with TF every time it came up. I burned three respites. I burned four reds. I burned every blue pill I was carrying (and since I rarely need them, that's a lot of blues).

Every time he woke up he blasted straight through my EA shields with his attacks. The guy did not miss. Ever! And the [bleep]ing quills wouldn't stop. There was no where for me to go except out the door, so I stayed a fought him (it was an honor thing at that point).

If he had 10% of his HP left, I'd be amazed. Wack, TF him again. Eight to ten seconds later I drop from the freaking quills.

I was EM/EA, he was a red con boss. I have no idea what his defense set was, but he wasn't taking much damage from my attacks, even when I was built up to 50%-75% fury.

This needs fixed. Its an annoyance with disoriented foes rcoket away from you at light speed, but when their damage auras keep running? That just isn't right.

Oh, and before I forget... There was a level 32 Spines Warden (verrrry purple) waiting for me when I exited the mission! Fortunately one of my buddies happened by as Warden #2 decided to pound me into the ground.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this is an issue with quills not just wardens. I fought the (downgraded from AV to EB) version of silver mantis the same level as me. She was pretty much auto hitting me with quills through 3 small purples. I was an EM/invul brute with unyielding (minus) and combat jumping (plus) as things that might modify my defence. I went back a level later (24-25 so I had the extra inspirations I needed) so she was -1 to me and she hit me about 1/3 of the time with quills through 3 purples which is still way above what you'd expect. My suspicion is that the monster version of quills has a huge accuracy bonus. And yes, stunning her didn't stop the quills.
