    To make a cap work, they'd have to take the amount of influence you could trade back down to 1M to make 800M transactions too much of a pain in the backside to do, no thanks.

    What would happen if they did that is that the RMT crowd would move in and you'd buy the PVP IOs with one easy transaction.

    Actually not all of them, some pool As rose in "bidding patiently" price due to flipping as the real bargains only came available when the flippers filled their orders, which was never if the flippers put enough bids up and checked them frequently enough. No game change hit say harmonised healing pool As I9-I13, but the price you had to pay on an "I want it in a week or so" top level recipe seriously went up in that period, and the history would show no recipes available and 3 or 4 of the last 5 bids at a the same weird flipper type price in the 100-300K range, with lots of enhancements available at 2-3M. I used to be able to buy the recipes at 5-30K if I was patient.

    This may be the market finding its natural level, but it is stupid to argue that flippers by removing some of the bargains haven't raised the cost of some enhancements to some people.

    An anecdote, before the mass outbreak of flipping, a friend bought all 3 of the main healing uniques for a total of 18M, try doing that even immediately pre AE.

    Soft Cap?

    Short version:

    The soft cap is 45% defence.

    It is so called because of the way the to-hit formula works, in that part of it in the absence of buffs and debuffs is [50-defence] max 95% min 5% then multiplied by accuracy mods etc.

    This means 45% def and 145% are equivalent a large part of the time.

    With WP, you start with some typed defences, so to get up to the soft cap, you will want to add to those, possibly with some of weave, combat jumping, maneuvers etc

    Well you got more of the big 3 than I have on 100+ 35-39 rolls blue side, on which I got a total of 1. Apologies to Fulmens who bought some of those rolls (and not the good one).

    Red side, I've taken a total of 2 rolls, a miracle unique and a LOL sting of the manticore that somebody bought for 35M. The world is truly going mad

    Well you can farm anything really ... but usually when people say farm, speed is tantamount to being good at farming. Dark/SS isn't going to break any speed records at farming.

    That's all I meant. If levelling up another toon is daunting for the OP, then time to break out the high recharge builds

    Plenty of people farm on invul/SS and WP/SS, is dark/SS really any worse ? at least it has the damage aura. Sort your end use and should be OK, was suggesting mother Mayhem's mish for survivability.
  7. I've posted this idea several times before, but my suggestion for it was no premium, but a limit of 1 of this type of bid per toon to avoid flippers completely cornering several markets at the same time.

    Edit - to clarify - I suggested this should actually be coded into the game, offering it as a service would be cool.

  9. Worst mistake, lag induced, paid 5M each instead of 500K on a stack of 10 rare salvage, cost me 40M.

    Have had the 5-8M for a crafted common IO enough times to virtually get that back.

    29/30-30/31 Citadel TF (rugged difficulty)

    30/31-31/32 Speeding through last two arcs in Croatoa

    31/32-32/33 Manticore TF

    32/33-35 a few Katie Hannon TF

    35-36 (37 if really lucky and high enough difficulty) Numina TF

    36/37-50 ITF (you can throw in a Kahn and/or LGTF lvl 45+ if you want).

    There I just got merits from lvl 10+, get at least 1 really great IO one would want (and if you want can sell if IOs arent your thing, but want the influence for gen IOs/SOs/costume fees)...

    I can do all that in less than 10 days with the right team. OH how I loved that 2hour Posi and 1:14 (kill all) Citadel.

    Stone/WP

    I love my SM/WP.

    Stone fist, stone mallet, brawl and boxing allows rapid low level fury building. QR and stamina gives me enough end to SMASH without expensive IOs, although if you're prepared to splash out on miracle, numinas and performance shifter specials, you can probably get by on QR.

    Fault and later tremor are great mitigation. Mine is a really cheap build with frankenslotted attacks and is very effective, but I would imagine if you throw cash at it, it could be obscenely good.
  13. The other key point is turnover, if you can make 20M on an IO but it might sit there for a week, you might be better off crafting something for 1M, selling for 7M and shifting 3 a night if you have the spare auction house slots.

    I have 3 niches, craft for 1.2, sell for 7, craft for 8, sell for 20, both usually sell in a couple of days, and craft for 25, sell for 50 or so but might sit around for a bit.
  14. You can also slot a melee power with 3 pounding slugfest and 3 pulverizing fisticuffs for a total of 2.5% to energy/negative.

    You are sort of missing something:

    There are two defensive schemes, you can have defence by type, smashing, fire etc or you can have defence by position, melee, ranged, AoE.

    All powersets specialise in one and not the other, stone is a typed defence set, and buffs (apart from a few NPC ones) affect both.

    90%+ of attacks have both a positional and a typed qualifier which indicates what they go up against, fireball is an example which is fire and AoE. Note that even though it does some smashing damage, smashing defence doesn't help. You use whichever is better of your fire and AoE defence against it.

    A few attacks go through some defences, pure toxic has no typed defence, and the mind control and illusion control sets are psionic only with no positional qualifier.

    What you need to up your defence are the sets that up typed defence, kinetic combat being the most obvious melee set which gives you smashing/lethal defence for 4 of them.

    Upping your positional defence will only help where typed defences don't apply, (toxic attacks, and psionic attacks other than the ones listed above when you're in granite) as you will not get them higher than your typed defences for anything else.

    Yes but:

    A granite tank can relatively easily cap defence to all but psi (and have capped psi defence out of granite) combined with capped S/L resists and 80%+ to the rest except psi, but pays the price with the penalties.

    If you want to add 30%+ to defence of a given type with IOs to a build, that uses most of your IO slots, so while you could take your fire tank up to nearly 40% def, that would leave you not very many slots to up your resists.

    Unless you start with very decent amounts of both defence and resist, you're not going to be anywhere near capping both, particularly if most sets give def OR res rather than both.

    In normal missions, I just arrange to tank alternate mobs with the other tank, so that there's always a nice tight group for the damage to blow away.

    Scrapper /shield

    I don't PvP, this is my PvE build and is a relatively cheap (the HOs are frosting as is the regen tissue unique which I happened to have lying around), replace with common IOs.

    Also as a 60 month vet, hasten is now actually superspeed, so I have full PvE invis if I need it for stealthing missions. Can't remember what I did with the spare slot.

    This is extremely functional, but could do with a bit of work as parry is not really needed any more, but I like it for debuff situations.

    Depends how much cash you're prepared to throw at the project. Stun stacking is very necessary for survival unless you're going to do something like build for ridiculous amounts of melee defence.

    That means EM, WM or SM and a large investment in extra recovery.

    My tank is dark/axe, a friend made dark/EM and EM just seems to work better.
  21. SR is late blooming with MA, it's awesomely early blooming with the sword sets (near softcapped melee defence at 17 with only one parry).

    I don't think you're looking hard enough for /SRs although there may be less low level ones due to the newness and sexiness of shields. My SRs are spines and dark on freedumb, 2xkatana elsewhere for scrappers and mace and ElM for brutes, so I love the set.

    It's not stupid to take tough/weave.

    Weave means with the way I've slotted mine, I'm softcapped for defence as well as having huge resists, and if I face psionic foes, weave + minerals caps psi def and tough is useful against the smashing/lethal damage that often goes along with it.

    Stone melee IS a huge end hog, stone armor is not, granite/weave/mudpots (no need to run tough in granite) is similar in end to most armor sets with a damage aura.

    eg
    dark armor, 3 basic toggles + damage aura = 3x0.21 + 0.52 = 1.15 EPS
    ice armor, 3x0.26 + 0.52 = 1.3 EPS
    fire armor, 2x0.26 + 0.52 = 1.04 EPS
    granite + weave + mudpots = 0.26 + 0.33 + 0.78 = 1.37

    So with weave, granite becomes marginally the most expensive, without it, it's joint cheapest, but a lot of fire/dark/ice tanks will run tough which granite doesn't need, and some will run weave as well. Granite/mudpots/rooted is firmly in the middle of the end cost league.

    The problem with stone is that if you have to run minerals + rock + brimstone + crystal + rooted + mudpots (carnies I believe do all the damage types) you are on a blue bar disaster.

    Make sure the sets you choose either have large +recovery bonuses, or have a lot of inbuilt end reduction for the attacks given how heavy stone melee is on end.

    I normally only run stone melee with a set that has an end management tool, my stone meleers are 2 ice/stone tanks and a SM/WP brute. I also have stone/axe and stone/DB tanks and a DM/stone brute.

    It's easy but expensive.

    Points that may not be obvious:

    In granite, only rarely do you need to run rooted, and granite's movement penalty is less than rooted's.

    Take and 3 slot swift for run speed.

    Most granites use teleport for movement.
  25. Of course if you do sell all 10 in one go, that's at least 18BN inf destroyed, a fitting end to the project.
