If the first attack hits, you're debuffed, doesn't matter what the second attack does. For you not to be debuffed it requires the first attack to miss.

    The actual probabilities are:

    Not debuffed
    miss + miss = 40%

    Once debuffed
    miss + hit = 0.632 x 0.368 = 23.25%
    hit + miss = 0.368 x 0.5669=20.86%
    Total = 44%

    Twice debuffed
    hit + hit = 0.368 x 0.4331=16%
  2. Actually your stats are wrong (mathematician/statistician by training here). If they have a 36.8% chance of hitting you, they have a 63.2% chance of missing, so the chance they miss you twice is 0.632x0.632 ie 40%, so there's only a 60% chance that your defence is lowered by their first two shots.

Fire has no extra mitigation, and of course hellions resist it so you're in a bad place, but MA has a major long duration stun available that will keep the badguy stunned more than half the time unslotted for stun or rech.
  3. Miladys, the explanation that you're not using vet attacks makes a significant difference. I normally do and make short work of them, I was also thinking minion rather than lieut. Also your assertion that you get hit twice 1/5 of the time is off, you have some def debuff res and you're hit say 37% and 44% ? of the time by the attacks which is between 1 in 6 and 1 in 7 (and of course if you're DM as the one I'm playing atm is, then you're debuffing their to-hit as they debuff your def).

Have run it sub 90 mins with 2,3,4 on the team and my toon only has 2 IOs. I run this for fun/merits on a fairly regular basis on my fire/EM (perma 17 with a full set of 20 SOs). Try doing a Dr Q in that time ...
  5. My WP/SS tank hit 50 yesterday, and I have 50 SS/fire and SM/WP brutes, so I have some idea about how to build this

    Question, what's your budget ?

Stamina - you probably need it unless you have a decent number of cash and/or merits
    Hurl/handclap - I have neither

Endurance I handled tank side by taking QR, slotting a miracle unique and a performance shifter chance of +end, then taking epic conserve power.

I went for softcapped exotic defence, and upping my S/L defence, which would be much more difficult on brute numbers. Kinetic combats are fairly expensive, but should be your priority for smash/lethal def. I actually use the kin combat proc (knockdown) for extra mitigation in the attacks that don't already do it.

The rage crash is not a big deal, particularly as the -def goes away as soon as you reactivate it. To that end I slot 2 force feedback chance of +rech (one in footstomp, one in my epic energy torrent), and this tends to get rage back before it drops if you're fighting large groups without spending a fortune on +recharge. Never having taken handclap, I'm not sure what sets it takes, but if you do take it and it takes KB sets, then the 5 non proc stupefies and a force feedback proc would seem to be the right slotting.

I prefer powers dedicated to keep my life up when i dive into big spawns and i can't see Ela doing that even with the new crappy heal.

The only thing it has going for it is the 20% recharge bonus, and the damage aura. The tier 9 is a big no like the invuln one, with scrapper resist caps it's not only not worth it for resistance, but the crash makes it unusable for farming purpose or in any decent team.

The recharge would be nice in a build focused on that, but i can't see that happening or the survivability will be very low. So you'll probably need to invest on some + def bonuses, which means less recharge, and less overall damage, while /dark or /fire can increse their survivability while increasing their dps at the same time, thanks to the heal getting benefit from + recharge.
Be interested to know what planet you're on. Spines/DA unless you spend a LOT of cash on your blue bar is a bit of a nightmare. My 9 toggle effort was borderline unplayable till I IOd. Elec will be much easier on a cheap build.

Fire can indeed improve their survivability with recharge, meaning they spend an ever increasing fraction of their time clicking healing flames. At least Elec's tier 9 is vaguely useful while you're alive. I don't know why you think elec's heal is crappy, it appears to be pretty good to me (although not the "all your hits" that DA gets). Also elec gets good mitigation in a farm type scenario as it's difficult to attack when you have no endurance, and mobs will have none pretty fast.
  7. Miladys, your numbers are correct, but your conclusions aren't. For example yes the hellion gunner can double stack his attack, but not if he's dead before he gets to shoot it for the second time, you take him out first. Also he only hits you 1/3 of the time so the chance of him double stacking it is small.

Have you never 4 slotted DOs or 15 common IOs to perma active defence, and respeced at 22 ?

I had no trouble soloing my DOd/15 common IOd SD scrapper and brute on rugged until I put it up to unyielding at 22.
  8. If you build for melee defence, you can do something stupid like this, runs at 44% melee defence and could be capped in several ways, the PvP IO being the only one that wouldn't require undue sacrifices other than a lot of cash.

    --Dave
Are you doing this because you feel you want to slot level 50 IOs ? I've got 3 50 /SRs, 2 scrappers, one brute and all 3 were softcapped by about level 43 with most of the IOs slotted at level 32 (ie most of the enhancements 30-35). It is also much cheaper buying recipes at that sort of level rather than 50s. You will absolutely hate going through the late 30s with SOs, many of the IOs you want are in sets that cap at 40 or lower, and it can be useful not to be completely screwed when you exemp.
  10. Miladys, your comments just don't ring true, I played an SOd fire/shield scrapper in the beta and had no survival issues late on (barring non positional psi) although I did have end issues with maps set for 2 on unyielding so effectively set for 3 solo.

I have a not very expensive near soft capped BS/shield build which is perfectly acceptable. It's not quite as survivable as my kat/SR, but puts out more damage.
  11. If you're looking to play on SOs, I would not play this combo. /SR benefits hugely from IOs, /WP would be much better both for end and survivability on an SO build.

    Thoughts?
Take it when levelling up, respec it out when you softcap. If you're not going the expensive route with HOs in active defence and enough recharge to keep it double stacked so that you have huge defence debuff resists then you might want to keep it.

Defence above 45% is useless 90%+ of the time, so at reasonable level, you would only need to have a single application at any time, and could concentrate on higher DPS attacks.

    Thanks Smurphy

Another vote for the great job the in-game GMs do, they have always been efficient except for the very odd occasion they log a villain on in a hero mish and have the flag set to not receive tells from the other side

My experiences with the offline GMs has been much more variable from the excellent:

I rolled a couple of gold tickets, they included a LotG 7.5, and 30 seconds later I DCd. Logged back in, recipes gone, tickets back, rerolled them, utter rubbish. Complained, got the form reply, complained again, senior GM looked on the logs, found the transaction and restored the recipes.

    To the less than excellent:

I've been fooled twice with the in-game documentation being utterly wrong and causing me to waste inf or a respec or both. Granite armor stated it was incompatible with SJ, fly, hover, superspeed so I took CJ, a completely wasted pick. That text was eventually corrected, but they refused to grant me a respec to get rid of it so I had to wait for the next issue.

The other one was where I took the stupefy chance of KD at face value and crafted 5 of them only to find they did KB which was a disaster on a melee toon, so I had to overwrite them as I was short of respecs and they made the toon unplayable. Again no restitution for the 70% of my inf I'd just completely wasted because the documentation in-game was rubbish.
  14. Yes it is possible, it will be expensive, purples don't help you softcap.

There should be plenty of shield guides around as to how to do it.

    HOORAY!
Only one commonly used word in Australia didnt get through.
True story, I used to play regularly about 4 years ago with an Aussie. His language was fairly ripe and I decided to see if I could make any sense of it with the profanity filter on. It was pretty tough and I soon turned the filter off again. There appeared to be only two or three commonly used words and they were all caught by the filter ...
  16. Minotaur

    Who did it?!

This is not infrequent, one went for 760M a week or two back.
  17. I only truly fell foul of the cultural differences once, I've had a few toons genericed, but the funniest was my fire tank. He's a very short young teenager in red/yellow camo gear with hair swept upwards called "The pocket rocket".

In the UK, this is a nickname used by several sportsmen in the past indicating somebody small fast and dynamic (boxer Wayne McCullough is the last one that comes to mind). In the US, it seems to be an american lady's second favourite piece of plastic after a credit card. In both places, pocket rockets are a pair of aces at texas hold 'em.

The toon got genericed, I asked why, they wouldn't tell me assuming it was obvious. I googled it, pointed out that as a 40ish man from the UK, I was somewhat unlikely to know the american usage, and that this was a perfectly normal phrase in the UK. I got the name back.

The US also seems to be much more phobic about drug references than we are in Europe and almost anything of that sort will get genericed.

Others I've had genericed that I don't think were necessary:

Debbie does Talos - In the UK the movie inspiring this is almost treated as a joke/generic blue movie.

Because I won't get a second account at the same price as the first for inferior benefits (I'm closing in on 63 months of vet rewards), so they won't get any more of my money without allowing me to create more toons on the one I have, or they may lose me altogether once I end up with 30+ lvl 50s on Victory and nothing to play (I have 17 50s and only 2 below level 30, one of which plays with XP off).

Welcome to Defiant Server, one of the friendliest of the EU servers allowing you to play with your European friends.

Ah... wait... until we get equal access you're gonna have a problem. But think yourself lucky. In the EU we get a choice of a max of 4 servers but realistically only 2 unless you're bilingual.

If Paragon Studios do decide to open access to all servers (which seems likely given they have merged the forums) then you'd be welcome to join us on Defiant or at a push Union
I looked at moving to the EU but I already had 72 toons when the EU servers started, I have 150 now across the US servers. Rest assured I would be on defiant and union like a shot if I had access. I have played on French speaking teams on the US servers, but find it hard work.

As I said, while I don't mind shelling out another $40 for slots, I can't afford the $ per month for a second account, also it would be painful going through the low levels without all the vet rewards I'm used to. I did it before vet rewards existed and it wasn't fun.

As to never being allowed a second account that kept the vet rewards, I always assumed the objection was people selling them, that was why I specified that it could never be separated from the original account and could have no independent existence.

    Need more slots

I've run up against the 36 slots per server limit on my main server, and was thinking about what could be done by NCsoft to help me give them more money and allow me to create more toons on the server on which I want to create them.

I play now almost exclusively on Victory as I play outside of US peak times and have found a SG/VG of European based players who play when I do.

    My current options:

Delete some toons - I play all of them
Move some to another server - might as well delete them, wouldn't play them there
Make a second account - can't really afford it and would start with no vet rewards

I would like to float some suggestions as to how to get round this:

1: Up the maximum number of slots per server to 48 or 60.

2: Create the option to make an "add-on" account. How I would see this working is that this was an account that attached to an existing account and had no possibility of independent existence. It granted one slot per server and extras could be purchased, but at a very small monthly fee. Veteran rewards would be transferred over from the main account.
  21. My favourite brushes with the bleeper were when somebody asked what level the badguys were, so I typed 45s where the filter read the 4 as an A and the 5 as an S.

Also Virgin are one of the largest ISPs in the UK and that got bleeped ingame in a discussion on outages. Not sure if it still is, PMd ex about it ages ago.
  22. I'm Minotaur, I play everything and I play a lot (150 toons on one account, 38 50s with no real PLing or farming).

I enjoy scrappers as they are my favourite AT to solo, but as I tend to play a toon to 50 then move on, my builds are not purpled out monstrosities. My area of expertise is constructing good but not godly builds without spending a fortune.

My main scrappers are Kat/SR (2 on different servers). I enjoy playing with the numbers, but can't really be bothered with the fiddly calculations like the effect of the achilles heal proc on DPS.

    Spider 41-44
    Plant/kin 42-45
    Fire/kin troll 41-43
    WP/SS 38-41
  24. A couple of really simple things, Makos provides positional defence and much less typed.

Obliteration has some of the same objections as makos.

Addition of a perf shifter +end should make dark consumption almost obsolete. You might consider recycling some of the slots.

End reduction is important to slot in EA, so I've made some slight adjustments there.

Try this, if your budget expands, replace the non makos in shadow punch with purple ADR and proc.

    Elec/EA Build

The heal on energy drain is pretty small, 45 per target unenhanced at level 50, but enhanced with 10 targets round you it adds up.

My experience is actually with a stalker rather than a brute, and the build is fairly similar without the purples. You could replace the two purples with makos ADER and AER without losing much. What I actually did was to have chain induction slotted as havoc punch is slotted here, and havoc punch with 4 kin combats including the proc for added mitigation then frankenslotted for acc/dam/rech etc. I did the same in boxing and assassin strike, and the extra mitigation on a stalker was useful.

I created my build by tinkering with the original build, I'm not sure it's exactly how I'd have done it otherwise, but I suspect it will work.
