    For teh future

Consider getting on the Titan forums and saying what you want from the successor before it gets too set in stone. They're reorganising the forums atm, and better places may crop up but this thread http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index....ic,5057.0.html is not a bad one to post in.

Just like how they sold off Dungeon Runners, Auto Assault, and Tabula Rasa?

    Oh, wait...
Selling off AA and TR would have been fairly pointless as they were flops. CoH is a bit different in that it is making money, so they might have got a meaningful sum for it. I suspect the cultural difference and loss of face if something they flog off succeeds is dooming CoH. They will never develop CoH2, as they know the people who played CoH will not trust them, are unlikely to buy it and are likely to point out what happened to CoH to prospective customers of CoH2 if they develop it.

  4. No votes for Becky

I vote for any of the cimeroran ladies, particularly the sibyls. "Our secrets are not for men to know" particularly how they stay in those dresses.
  5. Having met Gangrel recently IRL, I can assure you he doesn't work for NCSoft.

If they cared, they'd refund all points left over (I have about 6K) regardless of when they were purchased, but they clearly don't.

And how was said query sent? If it actually was a serious attempt to reach out, it would be very ironic if it got sent to one of the electronic or physical addresses people were busy spamming.

Generally stuff like this happens between people who already know each other on some level. Or an intermediary makes an introduction.
Anybody can send an enquiry, I would expect at least a form email saying "Thanks but no thanks" back, but this smacks of just binning any enquiries because they're not interested.

I agree that most often stuff happens between people who already know each other. Negociations clearly continued for some time, I'd be very interested to know what the insurmountable obstacle was.

Did I say he made an offer, he made an enquiry and didn't even get a reply, they never found out whether it was sensible or not. Hence my questioning their claims to have exhausted all avenues.

Either they are flat out lying, or the guy that runs a small studio and said he didn't get a reply to his enquiry is (can't remember which set of boards I saw this on atm, if I find it, will link it).

Sorry NCSoft, I'm not buying GW2 or Wildstar, never another penny of my money is going to a company with your horrible ethics (the Garriott case and closing down a profitable game with only a 3 month sunset having had a goodly amount of money off me for paragon points relatively recently which I haven't yet spent, looks like 6000+ will go to waste).
  9. It's strange, only because of having lost my mother 10 years ago, I recognise all the same symptoms of bereavement in me that I had then (lack of enthusiasm for almost everything among others), and I'm having to make very sure I handle it better than I did that time.

There are a few friends for whom like me CoH has been a huge part of their lives for 8 years who I suspect will feel it more on December 1 than they do now and it may be like that for me too.
  10. Midnight Pacific, OK, so I'm playing till 8am here
  11. Could be worse, some idiot from the water company decided to put a mechanical digger through my cable in a main road a couple of years back, took them 6 weeks to get that fixed.

Couldn't exemp down and run with lowbies, 'cause that gave no xp.)
My first 50 ran out of missions at 38. They then introduced the difficulty slider AFTER he'd run out of missions so it didn't help him.
  13. I think much of the upset is caused by the way the closure was handled. If NCSoft had come out and said "Guys, the game is losing money, we have to shut it down, we'll wind it down over 6 months" sure there'd have been sadness but a lot less anger. To sack all the devs with no notice and only give a 3 month sunset while the game seems to be still profitable is what caused the anger.

I am upset in that the game was improving and getting updated over the last few issues and I was looking forward to the upcoming issues. I wasn't playing as much as I have in the past but still often enough to justify the sub.

The OP was suffering some of the classic Freedom problems, a change of server would have fixed them.

And yes, the staggering number of character builds (not to mention which powers to pick in any given set combination) is one of many things that no game comes close to competing with CoH on.
Remember to take the mace patron power for more redraw, I played this combo as Captain redraw in one of the betas.

I also did this on my second account with the intention of going FTP with access to what I needed on that account while still paying for my main one. I never actually stopped paying and have about 5K points still on it.

My main account was paid 6 monthly (I lose about a month's paid time) and the second one monthly so no huge loss to me, but I'm still angry with the way NCSoft is handling this. If CoH dies, I want nothing to do with NCSoft, certainly not a sub to one of their games where I can invest time and energy to then have it closed down on a corporate whim when it's not doing badly.
  16. Around 80, the first 72 of which had no PLing at all, and all bar 2 or 3 on one account (which till I moved a couple of toons to defiant/union for the EU player event at the weekend had no unused slots on any of the american servers and 48 in use on Victory).

15 tanks and a load of brutes and scrappers make up most of them, I have every AT covered, but only one PB, WS and MM.
  17. Have fun, would have liked to do this, but am on holiday for a week and out of range of a computer.
  18. Had a fine time, big thanks to Kallandra and Gangrel for organising.

Good to put some names to faces.

Exactly, this is what finally decided me not to buy the game.

It would have been difficult to persuade me to buy any more NCSoft products anyway given the way they treated the devs. Had they announced the closure of CoH, explained why, given a run off long enough that people could play out their subs and feel they got value from recently spent points, I'd have felt sad but not borne any ongoing animosity.

  21. Btw, for those playing late Saturday night, these events http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...88#post4381588 will be going on at 10pm/11pm which people might want to support.
  22. While we do have reason to be thankful to NCSoft in the past, what they have just done (more to the staff than to us, although taking subs money then closing the servers down before the subs run out without a true emergency is morally fraud in my book) is so far beyond the pale and lacking any class that it is difficult to react with anything other than anger.

I agree that we have to try to deal with them in order to try to get our game back, and while I very much hope that happens, it doesn't mean I have to like them or buy any of their other games.
  23. Walter Padilla aka veil one or macron

Again no screenshots, but he was fairly well known at the time
  24. My first 50 (of 70-80). Mr Minotaur, a big bearded guy with horns, an artificial arm and an axe plus granite armor (my avatar). I joined July 04, played a few lowbies, and he was my first serious toon, back before aggro caps and on SOs he could do things we considered ridiculous at the time (although still not climb a kerb before I respeced TP in).

TheoPWildebeest, an energy/energy blaster slotted out with a load of dam/rng HOs in every power meaning that combined with boost range, he could snipe somebody in Paragon from the UK without using a computer. The toon was a homage to Theophilus P Wildebeest the horniest man in the world, creation of comic Lenny Henry.

Toxic Texan DM/regen scrapper, red white and blue cowboy outfit with a large dubya on his chest. Retired when IH became a clicky, still has 6 slot health and stamina and 1acc 5dam slotted attacks. Bio "Brain the size of a peanut, no should that be planet ? heck I don't know".

These 3 were 3 of my early 50s, and were the ones I did the missions and TFs with for the first time, made my mistakes "what you mean there are shops where you can buy enhancements, you don't have to drop them" for example.

    Fusionette.

I distinctly remember in the MA beta, a bug report that started something to the effect of:

"While I was testing my Feed Fusionette to the hydra arc"

It seemed that at that point, everybody wanted their own back for all the KB.
