Actually this is not true, most of the TFs are in fact soloable, you just need to persuade people to help you start, but don't actually have to kill anything with them on the team.
  2. I did some research that is published in another thread on the solo drop rate, I was averaging 1 shard per 10 x5 no bosses (suited my toon at the time, psi bosses make a mess of a spines/fire while they're good at mowing down minions) borea missions.

I also had a period of doing this earning more than 200 V-merits while earning only one shard.

Some rough calculations indicated I was unlucky (worse than 1 in 10 chance), but things would be seriously helped by either of 2 things.

    1) Multiply the number of shards required to do stuff, and the drop rate by 5 or 10. This will make your shard earning more consistent.

    2) put a streakbreaker in, if you've killed way more shard drop eligible foes than you should have to, next kill drops a shard automatically.

My solo earning is about 1 per 2 hours, in that time I could do 2 kill most ITFs and have 15 shards and 2 components (4 shards worth each). Is it really intended that you earn them 23 times faster on a team ? And that was with me on a damage dealing toon.

Does the attack still miss too much? Replace some damage with accuracy. Your alpha slotting will bring that damage right back up again, but now you're more accurate.

Do you wish another power would recharge a bit more? Use less end? Stun longer? You now have the ability to tweak your powers by removing the damage and adding what is missing, knowing your alpha slotting is recovering the damage you're taking away.
That's kinda true atm, but with the very rare boost where 2/3 of the boost is outside of ED, you still lose out on significant damage. If you have end issues, slot the dam/endmod rare or very rare to work on stamina (and possibly PP).
  4. Default: I go for +recharge, there are very few toons that can't use more recharge.

I presume your attacks are already slotted up to the ED cap. You will notice the musculature boost far more when you get the rare/very rare as a higher proportion of the boost ignores ED.

The only toon I slotted with cardiac is my dark armor/stone melee tank, 2 of the heaviest end using sets in the game (and it's wonderful).
  5. My question to second measure is this:

As a Brit who plays mainly on a low population US server out of US peak, is there going to be a way for me to sensibly access the later incarnate content without doing massive team raid type stuff ? as accumulating 24 people on a weekday at anything other than 1am is going to be a nightmare (and I play mainly during the week).

    Anecdote: CoP:

I've done one, which is one more than most of my SG, I did it at 0930 my time in Aussie peak. We barely scraped up 24 people (pretty much everybody with a 50 on the server at the time), and had a very unsuitable mix of ATs with far too little buff/debuff. We couldn't dent the purple AV. Most people said they were never going to do this again, most of the problem was the lack of inspiration drops and the feeling that if you fail, you get absolutely nothing for an hour's completely wasted time killing some of the hardest mobs in the game.

On my server, I've never seen a CoP being formed before 1am my time in any of the 4 badge channels I frequent.
  6. Have read through most of this thread, although I may have failed to take in some of the points made.

I'm a Brit who both solos and teams a lot, although I'm finding that with I19, I'm soloing an awful lot less, as alpha slotting the 22 of my 57 50s that I've decided to do would take me many years solo, whereas by hammering the ITF and LGTF I've now got 18 uncommon slotted. I didn't transfer over to the European servers because at the time I had to make the decision, I already had far too many toons I actually cared about to fit on the number of available servers.

Shard drop rate could do with looking at solo, as one toon where I needed just a few shards to complete my uncommon alpha was averaging 1 drop per 10 cleared missions doing Boreas at +0x5 no bosses (the toon was spines/fire and the psi bosses or too many psi lieuts mess him up badly). I did a rough calculation from the available drop rates, and this suggested I was unlucky (less than 1 in 10 chance of it being that bad). I've suggested before that multiplying the number of shards needed to do stuff and the drop rate by 5 would smooth this experience significantly.

Raid content is horrible as far as I'm concerned. If you play in US peak, you're probably OK, but I have never seen for example a CoP advertised in the 4 Victory badge channels I frequent in UK peak time. I've done one on Justice (my morning, Aussie peak time), and the problem is that while you can assemble 24 bodies, you have to take what people want to play, meaning we had waaay too much melee and little chance of completing it with the team we had and the mobs dropping no insps (we got the purple guy at the end and couldn't dent him). I've never done this again, and most of my SG have never done one at all. If I want to do a mothership raid, odds are that I'll have to do it at 1am my time.

ITF is definitely soloable, but I think most people who do this use a different exploit to the aggro cap one to avoid the nictus aiding Romulus.

The one they described as an exploit was using defence debuff HOs where the power took defence buffs, as they function as defence buffs, but work on the 33% scale rather than the 20%.

I'm a 78 month vet with several billions in the bank, but that toon was skint, so I took the inf and a note of his global.

A couple of days later I emailed him 10M and said he was welcome to it, or if his conscience wouldn't let him keep it to make 10 lowbies happy.

Yeah, but you can freely slot say LotG def, def/7.5 (or def/end), Aegis res, res/end, common res common def to cap both.
    Quote:
3/ That's a rather silly statement, LoTGs are the most efficient way to get recharge. 1 slot, 7,5% recharge, nothing else comes close. The money bit can't even be an excuse now that absolutely anyone over level 20 can get a LoTG every 4 days.
but why not slot 5 red fortunes (and a LotG if you have the cash which I got the impression the OP didn't)

4/ Replacing every imp armor with 2 aegis when possible in his build, you end up with an additonal 1.4mph, going from 19.4 to 20.8 in granite. Hardly a significant increase.
Trust me the extra movement is noticeable. I actually got 21.5 because I stick a res/rech and res/end/rech in EE.
    Quote:

5/ Maneuvers is a good and easy way to get 3.5% def to all for yourself and your whole team, if you slot more efficiently, you won't have endurance problems with it.
Have you tried it, my brute has a lot more +end than this build and a lot of end reduction slotted (much more in mud pots for example) and can run maneuvers but only just. Also the waste of slots in stone skin means you're only going to be able to 5 slot the attacks so end reduction there may not be great.

6/ Energy Torrent is great indeed.

7/ A tanker with minerals would be indeed with psi clocks and crazed. No "etc.", because those are more or less the only mob factions where you find yourself against heavy psi damage but not a whole lot of exotic, and you only find those factions if you play old story arcs. Hell, I don't think I would have ever seen psi clocks and crazed for the past 2 years if I didn't run Tina and Maria for accolades.
Try tanking a LGTF then, not just old arcs. I'm not sure if you fight barracuda blue side, but it was certainly useful to be able to drop into psi mode for her.
    Quote:
8/ Even when defdebuffed, a granite can handle cimerorans just fine thanks to 90% S/L res plus eventually EE and Rooted. A granite tanker going for 55% def to all would have to make tremendous sacrifices heavily reducing his performance in other areas.
Actually my brute certainly couldn't, and I see invul tanks with 90% resist (but not way over 45% def) die all the time on ITFs, but mine has sacrificed almost nothing to get to what (on tank numbers) would be 70% def to S/L other than a lot of inf.
    Quote:
"Horrible"? Bit of an overstatement, it looks like a valid way to build (one I wouldn't follow personally, but I can see the reasoning). Based on your nitpicks that are either misinformed or flatout wrong, I'd say the only horrible thing in this topic is your advice.

Adding to that, the build you posted isn't endurance efficient, has a 220s recharge on Hasten and a 214s recharge on EE while Hasten is active, lacks tohit and underslots accuracy in attacks (you don't even have enough to hit +3s 95% of the time!), severely underslots Health.
It's a budget build, it has to suffer in some places, slotting kinetic combats instead of smashing haymakers would allow the slotting of some attack sets with +acc for example. The owner of said build is certainly very happy with it.

My brute slots 4 GotA including the run speed in rock/minerals/weave with a LotG 7.5 for lots of end, run speed and rech. It also has nearly 54% S/L specifically for the ITF as I was finding 45% was insufficient. I only have 84.5% S/L res.

And to syntax, psychic clocks and crazed are 40+ mobs. They appear in the late game PI arcs plus the LGTF. I haven't checked out the new maria arc, but mother mayhem's minions and malaise (possibly with his minions, can't remember) are also heavy psi.

It has everything a Stone Armor Tanker needs for staying in Granite all the time. It isn't finished because I wanted others to be able to adapt it to whatever power sets they want. However, it has soft capped defenses and decent movement speed. In my opinion, it has the essentials for Granite tanking and the psionic defense ensures you don't have to leave Granite. Just pop a purple and you'll be about as tough as if you were running Minerals for psionic defense. If you want to exemplar below Granite, make another build. We get 3 now.
To give a bit of background, my first 50 in Jan 05 was a stone/axe tank, and I have a stone/DB tank and mace/stone and DM/stone brutes at 50 in addition. Most are cheaply IOd, but the mace/stone brute I spent some serious inf on.

    1. Granite is below the ED softcap for def and significantly below for res.

    2. Stamina is underslotted for end mod (although you have spare slots to fix that, but prob not enough, when I rounded the build out with slots, I found I didn't have enough).

    3. You depend on LotG +rech for extra recharge, there are plenty of places to get it more cheaply (or in addition if you have the cash).

    4. For movement I'd suggest it's more important to slot 2 aegis than 3 imp armors.

    5. Maneuvers is a big end drain that you don't need (on a tank, I do on my brute) if you slot your sets more carefully, you can easily softcap without it.

    6. If you're going with your choice of epic pool, energy torrent is a great attack (the tank version does knockdown not knockback) and will take the force feedback chance of +rech which can really help a stoner.

    7. For mobs like psi clocks, crazed etc, you have no capability of coming out of granite to go into softcapped to psi/S/L mode.

    8. On a tank, because your DDR is not great, you want to be a fair bit over 45% def so the first debuff doesn't uncap you. I know my build isn't, but that's because it's a cheap one, but if I built a tank with the same build as my brute, it would have 55% or so def to all, which is extremely useful on for example an ITF to avoid cascading failure.

I've done mothership raids on my granite brute taking as much aggro as I can in granite and not died with no particular extra psi def. There is actually not that much psi, what kills people are the rikti mages' stuns. I do click various purples and oranges at that point if I happen to have them and also use some greens.

Is a variation on a stone/fire I did for a friend who had some spare A-merits, but not too much cash.

Syntax's template is horrible in lots of ways, he's gone for psi defence which is unnecessary. Most of the time where you meet occasional psi, just stay in granite, for heavy psi, minerals, tough, weave, rock armor, rooted.

The build features soft capped defence to all but psi in granite, and softcapped to psi and smash/lethal out of it.
  15. There is a recurrent bug that does this that surfaces from time to time, it gets fixed fairly fast, it shouldn't work like that and most of the time it doesn't.
  16. Yeah, there was a classic piece of stupidity I spied, forget the actual set, but it was one with an expensive IO in it, but this wasn't it.

    last 5:

    120M
    56K
    56K
    5M
    5M

Oops, somebody bid on the wrong IO.

Agreed, but DM/SR can also have the regular heal and is much less vulnerable to defence debuffs.

From personal experience, I find my invuls (claws scrap/EM brute) are the most squishy of my scrappers/brutes of the sets we're talking about, however I've spent rather more on my /shields. My /SRs of which I have many are way more survivable on a cheap IO build.

If you're going to spend billions, I think /invul may well be the best from a pure self defence point of view, although my ElM/shield is a lot more fun to play than my invuls, and if I'm reaching for a scrapper purely to play for fun, it's always that or my somewhat squishy spines/fire.

  19. The issue with psi is this:

Invul is troubled by all psi damage

/SR is troubled by the non positional psi attacks which are the ones from the mind and illusion control sets. It works normally against the psi blast sets.

Hence master illusionists really mess up /SRs, psi clocks rather less.

For the SR i don't know, i never played this set.
This is completely and hopelessly wrong.

Toxic attacks are either ranged, melee or AoE, and defences work against them on this basis so /SR and /shield are fine. The sets that have issues are ice armor and energy aura, because there is no such thing as toxic defence, and these are the typed defence sets.

It sounds like you don't like tier 9s with their big crashes.

Without IOs, for survivability /SR>> invul and shield.

With mega IOs, invul is probably best, but all 3 are perfectly fine.

I like katana/SR (you level very smoothly using divine avalanche to softcap melee def at very low level, then respec it out when you no longer need it, and make a second build for exemping), elec/SD, katana/WP for very survivable scrappers.
