It's been a hell of a ride for me, that's for sure.
Sherman, set the wayback machine for 1990 - I found MUDs. Played on them for years, joined what became my home MUD in '93, took it over in '97. Things were good until about 2001, when MMOs started to gain traction with online gamers, and MUDs lost it.
In 2004, my best friend introduced me to CoH while I was staying with him for the summer before starting my current job. I'd never been interested in the Fantasy MMOs, was burnt out on that genre from the MUD, but loved CoH instantly. Joined in August of 2004. It was a great way to still get to hang out and do stuff with friends downstate.
In early 2006, the bulk of the group left for WoW. I didn't. (Fantasy genre = ugh) Played with the remaining group members until they left for SWG. Tried that, no traction there either.
Played alone for many months. Thought about quitting. Then, I found PinnacleBadges. Mostly just watched, didn't talk much. Then I heard about w00t Radio. Started DJing with them, which forced me to talk.
Then I met Ancient Tree. We became friends. He introduced me to GP (now Flame Enchantress). We became friends too.
Simply put, Tree & GP changed my life, but since they were on Pinnacle, Pinnacle gets the credit. And through them I got to know and become friends with some truly cool folks like Evie, Dark Lu, Red Crow, Aldrazar, Jimmy, Gawdzilla, Sexy Sultan, Natures' Fury, and others.
Thanks to Pinnacle, I have a new group of friends, and I'm heading toward five straight years in CoH. They've even helped me get my wife started on playing (she's a sucker for being social, even if she's not really a video-gamer).
Ok, so I drink more than I used to before playing here, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's not like I have to drive home after a night of drunken ITF-ing with the Pinnacle on Tap crew! I have learned, however, not to drink and DJ. Major embarrassment ensues when I try that. -
Been here close to five years, never heard of 'em either.
Obviously a real bang-up organization. -

Absolutely. And if you wanted to use Skype to do a call-in show, that would be a possibility too.
The shows would have to be MMO-centric, tho. No political talk shows or sport-talk or stuff like that. We're gamer radio after all. -

Please tell me you've brought back "Theater of the Mind", it was my favorite show.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what runs from (approximately) 8am to 5pm every weekday. The request library is up to over 4800 tracks of just TV and Movie scores and soundtracks.

Wait, W00T is broadcasting again?
[/ QUOTE ]
We are. http://radio.w00tstudios.net/ is the direct link. We run an eclectic format generally, TV & Movie soundtracks during the day Mon-Fri, and I have my personal program on Friday nights from 7-11 p.m. eastern. All the rest of the shows are sort of "at will" which is why we're looking for new DJs, so we can get a stable schedule back in place. -

If I say no to all of that will you still like me?
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. Nice to see you, Ash. -
Greetings all, DJ Mindscythe here.
We're looking to expand our DJ roster, and we might be looking for you!
You may be wondering "DJ Mindscythe, could I be a w00t DJ?" Ask yourself the following questions:
<ul type="square">[*]Do you have a good amount of legally-obtained music in .mp3 format suitable for a T for Teen audience?[*]Do you currently play at least one MMO?[*]When you talk, do people listen to you and enjoy it?[*]Do you have a computer with Windows that you can DJ with?[*]Do you have a microphone and headphones/speakers on your computer (or a headset)?[/list]If you answered "Yes!" to all of these questions, you could be a w00t DJ!
To apply, send an e-mail to mindscythe@w00tstudios.net that contains your name, the MMO(s) you play, what types of music you'd be playing, and a short (1-2 minute) demo .mp3 file that lets us hear what you will sound like on-air. There's no need to put lots of music in the demo, we'll hear that soon enough, we want to get an idea of what you sound like.
We'll gladly take any genre of music (except Rap/R&B or Country). Please keep the language in the music/talksets appropriate to a T for Teen rating (think a PG-13 movie).
Any questions can also be sent to mindscythe@w00tstudios.net or posted on the w00t Studios forums at http://www.w00tstudios.net/index.php/forums.html in the "w00t DJs" thread.
w00t Radio is an equal opportunity station... any species that can play music and speak clearly is eligible for an on-air shift (this includes all talking animals). -
My cognitive development has just been set back 2.7 years. Officially. Dammit.

Very nice base showcase, very creative. There sure are a lot of bars in your base. Aren't your heroes to inebriated too beat up on bad guys.

Pfffft... we fight better tipsy than we do sober. We've proven that on several occasions. -
w00tstudios is back online, so you're able to get your Stan & Lou fix whenever you like.
-
w00t's host ISP is down for maintenance, an as such w00t is as well. Rest assured... as soon as they're back up, we'll be back up.
-
Once again, truly amazing work. After watching that video, I now want to actually attempt this on my home server.
-
By listener request, whenever I'm DJ-ing on w00t (usually weekends), all 29 current episodes of Stan & Lou are now requestable.
It's interesting to see what everyone's favorites are. So far, the Striga Isle one seems to be leading.

I stumbled across this gem while researching music for one of DJ Otto's vids... and it's creative commons too, so completely usable. It has much potential.
Hot Sexy Girls by Joe Sibol. -
In the words of C3-PO, "Thank the maker!"
I await the next installment with a worm on my tongue!
(beat)
Baited breath.
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week, tip your waitstaff, try the veal! -

That's coz we're the cool people. But don't let it get you down, I think we're kind of all feeling the effects of a negative surge right about now - seems to be happening to a lot of folks I know for absolutely no reason at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
It seems to hit with the first announcements of any new issue. We get the first of many previews, and a cadre of folks leap up and go "THAT'S IT?!?!? THAT SUXORS!!!" Excitable people, those folks are, but they introduce a huge negative vibe into the community, and squelch those who are nearer the middle on the excitement scale, like myself.
But I've shown several people Ash's video, and every single one of them has watched with eyes growing wider as it goes on. And I've talked to several folks on Pinnacle who are excited as hell to have an opportunity to compete for prizes with graphic art as opposed to video editing. We have some amazing artists out there (I know a couple on Protector too), and this will give them the ability to shine.
If the general forum folks aren't interested, their loss. If someone's going to rickroll in response on Champion, don't bother with them. If the art forum snobs want nothing to do with anything that "cheapens their art," that's their loss.
This contest is going to go over like gangbusters, and I predict the folks who are being kvetchy about it are going to be in the minority. But, as Dennis Miller used to say, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. -
Uhhhh... he just posted on the 27th of August here in this thread... I think he's very much still with us.
-
If you like, here's Otto Plair's democode. He doesn't "run around" however, he's never been outside of a bunker since he was 12, but if you want to use him as indoor decoration... I won't tell him.
