The alcohol options are as wide and varied as the inebriated players on Pinnacle. I, personally, am a hard cider person and a rum person, but as long as it's alcohol, it's welcome on Pinnacle.

  3. Anything by E. S. Posthumus works really well (I use him for background music a lot in my games).

Just search on YouTube for E S Posthumus and you'll find a ton of his music (he's done a lot). The first time I heard him was as the music used behind the trailer for the original Spiderman movie. Now I hear his stuff used all the time.
  4. I ended up having to move away from both of my gaming groups for work several years ago, so I've been PnP-ing about twice a year (once in the Summer and once at New Years) until recently. We have a group of 5, three of us here, the other two 2 1/2 hours south, and we game using ooVoo and Coccinella (Jabber chat client w/a shared whiteboard) every two weeks.

    Currently Running:
D&D 3.0 - We have three GMs in our group, so we're doing four-session story arcs, and trading off who runs every session. That way, the person who starts the arc gets to finish it, but then gets a two-session break in the middle. The only problem is remembering to leave the story threads for the next guy.

    Currently Playing:
D&D 3.0 - We're playing in Forgotten Realms, a custom campaign set out of Arabel, called "The Order of the Emerald Rose" which is a name based on the last New Year's Eve game we ran (and where we figured out the logistics of the current campaign).

    Owned:
Dungeons & Dragons, 1st Ed through 4th Ed, mainly Forgotten Realms-focused, but still have some DarkSun, Krynn, Planescape, and Spelljammer stuff laying around too.

White Wolf (Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Wraith).

    Space 1889

    Wheel of Time

Villains & Vigilantes (an old stand-by we haul out from time-to-time).
  5. I had so hoped to see him on the new Dr. Who... *sigh* At least he was able to make an appearance on the Sarah Jane Adventures, so some of the new Dr. Who fans will know who he was.

Favorite Brigadier episode: The Three Doctors. Watching him try to wrap his head around his first doctor coming back (#2) while his second doctor (#3) was still there as well was priceless.
  6. Mine would be an origin story, and only Hugo Weaving (looking like he did in the Wolfman) could play Mindscythe. The voice is perfect, and since he's proven he can act through a static mask (V for Vendetta), he could handle the "in-costume" stuff too. He is Mindscythe.

    Well, he could be, anyway.

You just do what any smart commuter would: Hop on the train to Brickstown, exit back into IP, and whalah: You're significantly closer in a faction of the time. Or, if it's the other way around, exit to Bricks, take the train back to IP, and boom: You're a few hundred yards away from Statesman.
  8. Like WW, this is my latest list.

I'm grateful for Red Crow's ability to puncture any pompousness (including mine when it rears its ugly head) which keeps us all grounded and eventually chuckling at our own occasional stupidity. Oh, and also for suggesting that our channel needs its own website and events calender, which we now have.

I'm grateful for Dark Lu, who is the most faithful fan of this game I know, and who continually bats away the ennui that threatens us all from time to time.

I'm grateful for Aldrazar, who serves as an example of how someone can balance being a worker, a father, and a gamer, and not let any of the three suffer.

And finally (for now), I'm grateful for Natures Fury, who keeps us laughing and continues to lead the Pinnacle lifestyle for the rest of us who can't as often as we'd like.

This core crew of people is a large part of why I keep coming back.

    Hamidon Raid

    9pm eastern, I take it?

  10. I have to ask... is that a marshmallow gun in the bottom left-hand corner of the picture? My vision of what it's like to work in that office just took a sharp left turn into awesomness...
  11. You could use the Radio in Port Oakes and do a "Top 7 at 7" type countdown, and have it be the seven greatest hero missteps (or mistakes), and highlight the "oops" moments from the last seven years...

I'm willing to voice the radio for you if you like. Been a while, but I'm sure I could re-create it again.
  12. Even though a lot of people look at me funny when I say I've been playing the same MMO for six years (well, to be honest, first they say "What's an MMO?" and then I get the look), I've never once been tempted to depart these shores, not once, not yet. So I'm grateful for so many things having to do with CoX...

    I no particular order...
    * Providing me with the stress relief I desperately needed over the last four 1/2 years so I could actually finish my Ph.D.
    * Allowing me to continue hanging out with old friends I had to move away from.
    * Introducing me to amazing new friends (Goddess of Poison/Flame Enchantress, Sexy Sultan, Ancient Tree, Gawdzilla, Natures Fury, Red Crow, Dark Lu, Aldrazar, 103, Jimmy Amp) that have made such a difference in my life.
    * I'm grateful for whoever wrote the Radio arc... I remember laughing all the way through the on-air dialogue the first time I did it, and falling in love with it so much that I just _had_ to voice it so everyone else could hear what it sounded like in my head!
    * Discovering w00t Radio (it was Cuppa Joe's going-away party that first got me to listen, and then join as a DJ) which gave me years of radio fun, both as a listener and as a host.
    * Introducing me to DJ Jester. w00t Radio may be gone, but we're still friends, and I'm really glad of that.
    * A truly understanding wife of 11 years who just smiles and nods when I say "No, I can't watch TV with you right now, Lu and I are getting our butts kicked in this Tin Mage TF!"
    * Meeting Sexy Sultan at the Pinnacle M&G in Ohio a few years back, and shooting footage that's ended up in a documentary about MMO gamers (also where I met many of the aforementioned people).
    * The ability to still feel like I'm part of a group, even though every other member of my group is a state/many states/a country away. I'm grateful for your friendship, more than I can really say.
    * Finally, I'm very, very, very grateful to the wonderful folks who make this game I love so much, that provides me with so much, including the opportunity to meet such wonderful people. Having played countless MMOs, I can say without a shadow of doubt that the Dev staff here are the best dev staff working. No question about it. THANK YOU!

Like WW, I could list more, but I'll stop there.
  13. I laughed so hard, my wife came downstairs to see if I was just reading or watching something that funny or I'd finally gone completely 'round the bend.

    Bravo, Steelclaw, bravo.
  14. Pinnacle's been yellow practically every night since 19 hit. That's never happened before, not for this long anyway. First-hand, I've run more TF's since 19 hit than I have during issues 1-18.

I'd say it's had a very positive effect on the 'ol drunken server. We're going to have to increase the drinking proportionally, however.
  15. Doh! The site seems to be down, I'm getting MySQL error messages when I try to connect to any part of it.
  16. Thanks for posting this! What a fascinating read... I started watching Dr. Who in the 80s, thanks to my local PBS station re-running all of the Pertwee/Baker/Davison/Baker/McCoy episodes, and have since seen nearly every episode still available at this point.

*runs off to post this link on his FB page for the largely un-enlightened masses*
  17. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays (got to be inclusive you know) to my favorite server. Six years and still here because of all the cool folks!

We here at City of Heroes have what I consider the best on line community of any MMORPG out there. Our players have more heart. Our development team listens and responds. The general public should know about this.

This is a game of Heroes. Maybe it's time WE emulate the characters we play on line.

    Sincerely,

    Steelclaw
Agreed, agreed, and agreed. And signed. And agreed. And signed again, just in case. And signed in different colored ink. And agreed one more time. This is a VERY good idea.

    I apologize for doubting you.
  20. You've more than done your duty to king and country, Castle. Gods speed you to whatever your next step is, and best of luck!

    I'll buy one. Promise.
I've yet to read of any other MMO doing something like this. Such a creation/action, even if the Devs only donated half the money to charity, would generate tremendous good PR, as well as elevating the social status of gamers a bit more (something I'm highly in favor of).

Bravo, Steelclaw! You've managed to combine brilliance and ingenuity with practicality. I'm jealous as all get-out.
  22. I agree the drop rate between teamed-on-TF vs. solo is disproportionate, but I'm not sure what the solution is. Unless there's some sort of internal evaluation going on (i.e. separate drop rates for teamed-on-TF, non-TF team, and solo), upping the solo drop rate would likely result in an increase in the other two as well.

Perhaps separate evaluative drop rates are what's needed to even out the speed at which incarnate shards are awarded. How about, for solo and non-TF teaming, a chance to get a shard as a mission completion bonus? Even if it's only 10%, that's still one-in-ten chance that could be counted on.
  23. I heard someplace that the original text of the statement was "And the geek shall inherit the earth..." but I don't know if that's true or not.
  24. Mindscythe

    Thor trailer

    Damn. And.... just.... damn. Awesome.

Not wild about the 3D, but it won't stop me from seeing it.
  25. Mindscythe is planning his next voice-over project: He'll be pre-recording all the announcements made by the dev staff for the next three issues.
