Don't be fooled by the big numbers on the regen set bonuses. At +86% you don't have anything like "good regen". And without a reasonably large HP total in the first place, +regen isn't going to do much to keep you alive.
Fast Healing for Scrappers for instance (the very least +regen in that set) grants +135% regen when slotted. You need to get into that order of +regen for it to be readily noticeable. For comparison, Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon, both widely considered skippable powers in their sets, each grant 290% +regen slotted.
Some other specific points:- You can still use Arctic Air as a damage source. Slot it with Abys-Dam%, ImpSwft-Dam%, Mlais-Dam%(9), 3 x EndReduc IO (or 2 if you slot L50 common IOs). Seriously, if you don't slot this for max endurance reduction, you're going to have endurance issues. And any slotting for +recovery or EndReduc elsewhere is better spent right here.
- If you're not going to slot endurance reduction into your most endurance hungry powers, of course you're not going to be able to take Hasten. So slot endurance reduction. Besides, the crash won't hurt you as much as using all those faster recharging powers
But guess what else is faster recharging ... Domination. And that refills your endurance bar.
-
Some comments on that build:
- Arctic Air is endurance hungry. I'd put maximum endurance reduction in the power as you will run with it on more often than not. In fact, you'd get more bang for your buck out of putting a couple more slots of endurance reduction here than most of the places you currently put endurance reduction.
- You need Hasten. Hasten gives you several multipiers of recharge reduction from what you currently have out of set bonuses. Hasten is near mandatory for Doms. When your survival relies on both stacking single-target Holds and long recharging AoE powers, anything that makes that stuff come back faster is a good thing.
- You're not getting much out of the extra 2 slots of Basilisk's Gaze in Block of Ice and Glacier. As those are expensive sets, I expect you'll both make a saving and be more effective if you use the last 2 slots for frankenslotting.
- If you must take Air Superiority, 5 slots of Crushing Impact is better than your current slotting and gives you +5% recharge. Similarly for Ice Slash, you need to add that extra slot.
- Your Stamina slotting is bad. You'd get as good a performance out of 2 common IOs of EndMod + proc or 3 SOs + proc. The Efficiency Adaptor set isn't doing much for you, and you can use the extra slots elsewhere (hint: AA).
- Why the extra slot in Jack Frost? I'm assuming the use of Call to Arms is because Expedient Reinforcement is expensive?
- Your Health slotting is odd too. Slotting for +recovery set bonuses, particularly these tiny ones, doesn't do much for you. You could get away with 1-3 slots of straight Heal enhancments.

Just in case anyone missed it, the servers are going down at 10pm AEST and 12am KiwiTime. That's an hour early.
Announcement is here. -
Indeed. Both the current teams are good, but the current Australian team is a big step down from Ponting + Gilchrist + Warne + McGrath + 7 better than average international players.

Quote:I'm in agreement with this. I've been levelling a Mind Dom since the changes (I've never really got one past L20 or so before) and I find I'm missing the pet for dealing with PToD EBs, and an Immob even more so.I will agree that you get some late control with grav/nrgy, but if you are going to be soloing alot anyway you still get enough control to play well. The mind set is nice, but i think is much more team oriented. My personal feelings when playing my mind dom is that i miss the pet when solo. Now most argue that with the confuses the enemies become your pets, but it just feels like i have to over control with that set, and then miss the damage from the pets. Maybe cause its a mind/psi i dont know, it just feels that i want a pet when i play him.

Quote:Incinerate is a good power, but it's skippable for Plant/Fire. Plant has no need to be in melee and Fiery Assault can get along fine at range. On a team Incinerate rarely does its full payload of damage.Incinerate - how useful do people consider this? Does it make a big difference soloing EBs? Currently I find myself with little reason to get close enough to use it though that may change after I get Combustion.
Quote:Fly Trap - while I'm familiar with it from my controller I'm wondering how much impact it would have for a dominator. I found its main use on my plant/rad to be helping with ST damage for tough enemies but I'm not sure how necessary that is here. Still, it's a pet, and I generally assume they're a gimme. Thought it was worth asking though.
Quote:Power pools - I'm pretty sure I'll have enough space in the build for either Tough or Aid Self. My instinct is to say the first if I take a resistance toggle from my PPP or the second otherwise. Any thoughts on these?
Quote:PPP - speaking of which, is there an obvious pick for PPP? If I were to maintain enough interest in the character to invest heavily in IOs I'm assuming recharge is the clear way to go, and for that reason I thought Mace might be ideal for the LotG options it provides. How do the various pets compare, and how useful is the power assuming a heavy recharge build? -
The best ways to use DS that I'm aware of:
- If you don't slot it with accuracy it can be a good way to split a large spawn
- It's an excellent panic button that's nearly always up
- Griefing your own team - well, sometimes they're going to deserve it

True. Thorns has good AoE. Personally, I exclude it because of the redraw and the effect on your costume, but others may not have the same distaste for these relatively cosmetic effects.
If you don't mind those issues, Thorns can bring the -def as well. Not quite in the same category as Earth, but the effect is quite noticeable when playing with a Thorns Dom on the team. -
Given the choice of Earth and Plant, I'd go Earth. Seeds is very, very good, but Earth gets at least three tricks to Plant's one and a far superior pet as well.
Additionally, Earth gets tonnes of -def which works really well with the Vet reward attacks, which you should have plenty of with your history blueside.
As for secondary, Fire will do more damage than Psi, but Drain Psyche really does make up the difference. Psi also has some nice secondary effects with its -recharge and even Telekinetic Thrust is a good power these days. -
I've been with CoV since day one, and I was around as well. I do not recall any damage scaling with team size ever making it to live. Ever. About the only damage scaling I'm aware of is the faster building of Domination while on a team, enabling you to have the Domination damage boost for longer.
So you can throw "reprehensible" and you can throw "outrageous", but quite frankly I'm seeing a heavy dose of crazy eyes here. -
Ditzy, this attitude is pretty much classic elitism. It's exclusionary.

Quote:A situational power is not a bad power. It's a power that requires more thought than non-situational powers simply because one must know what situations to use it for and one must be able to recognize when those situations occur.Quote:If someone remains whiffing at a shifted foe(s)... it probably wasn't used right.
If a teammate is waiting for the effect to wear off more than about 5 secs ... it probably wasn't used right.
If a team bind wasn't attached and spammed at the beginning and/or end of it's duration... it probably wasn't used right
If the situation it's casts in doesn't require AT LEAST 30 seconds... it probably wasn't used right.
If teammates remain enegaged and have to try to distinguish which foes are shifted from those that are not... it probably wasn't used right.
Given the list in that second quote, I reckon that Dimension Shift cleared "situational" and pushed far enough into "bad" that it's threatening to head into "Transformers 2".
Simply put, a situational power that is too narrow is indeed bad. Look at the old Temperature Protection in Fiery Aura for instance. -
Quote:Actually, I think you could make an argument that Gravity could use a big hand in the Control stakes, in which case, having a long duration Sleep would be a good bone to throw. For Dim Shift, the drawback of the 15 second phase at the beginning would make a total of 40 seconds of sleep, enhanced, not seem terribly unreasonable. Sure, you could use it to solo spawns safely... one... enemy... at... a time...
I still think the power is so universally reviled that you could just dump the Cottage Rule on this one though and deal with the fallout from the half dozen or so players that actually like it. -
Unfortunately, that ship has sailed.
While Justice does appear to have the highest concentration of Oceanics, they're everywhere because there's very little anywhere that directs people to Justice.
We do try and actively get people on the Australia channel to come check out the community on Justice though, with some success. I can understand why people are reluctant to leave their characters on other servers though. -
I said 15/20 because I figured the Sleep duration would be enhancable, and 15/40 when fully enhanced seemed not unrasonable. But even a 20 second sleep is long by the standards of the current AoE Sleeps.
Besides, it's just an example I was throwing up to show how you could modify Dimension Shift in a logical manner and not break the Cottage Rule. -
Brutes could farm a lot faster than Doms before the buffs and a lot more safely. The situation hasn't really changed.
-
Quote:Ignore Southern Comfort, he has no idea what he's talking about. It is still quite possible to farm with a Dominator; especially with a Fire/Psi. I'm not sure that a Dom is as good as a Brute for farming in general though, but that was still the case before the changes.hi,
i was wondering, i have a fire/psi lvl 50 and i was wondering does anyone know of any non AE missions to farm? like the old liberate the tv mission. iv been told you carnt farm that ay more is this true and does anyone know of any other that work?
The Liberate TV mission still works, it just doesn't provide quite as much XP as it once did since Family XP was reduced. The Black Scorpion Nemesis platform mission still works as well, but that's not a good farming choice for any sort of Dominator. Eventually the Nem vengeance just stacks too much and your controls stop hitting.
I would recommend you wait until I16 - with the new mission difficulty settings, pretty much any mission can be a farm. -
Quote:Of course it does. A 1 second intangible would not be perceptible and might as well not be there.Okay, we'll play, Min.
How's this for a Modified Dim Shift:
1 sec intangible followed by 20 sec sleep/stun/confuse or whatever.
Didn't break the 'cottage rule' now did it?
OTOH, a 20 second Sleep effect where the targets are intangible for the first 15 seconds and the Sleep duration is enhanceable might do the trick. It's not a fundamental change to the power and it adds some actual utility to it. (Although I still wouldn't take it, Intangibility still sucks as an AoE game mechanic). -
According to the MMORPG article Earth Assault looks like this:
1 Stone Spears
2 Stone Mallet
4 Tremor
10 Hurl Boulder
16 Power Boost
20 Heavy mallet
28 Seismic Smash
35 Mud Pots
38 Fissure -
I should also clarify that I'm totally for replacing Dimension Shift with something better; in fact, to break the Cottage Rule completely.
What I dispute is that the Energize/Conserve Power thing has anything to do with the Cottage Rule. -
The Cottage Rule is simple: a power that does one thing shouldn't be replaced with a power that now does something completely different. (In the original example, summoning a small cottage, hence the name).
In the case of Energize and Conserve Power, Energize *doesn't do something completely different*. Energize is simply a reduced-power version of Conserve Power that also provides a self heal and a regen buff.
It's like replacing Coke with Diet Coke. The Cottage Rule covers replacing Coke with a rump steak. That hasn't happened here. -
I've been levelling one of these recently (L39 and still having fun).
I would agree with Terrify + Static Discharge as an opening combo, but it's more often Build Up + Terrify + Static Discharge.
And I'll go the other way on Mesmerize vs Levitate. The whole point of Mesmerize is that it only needs one application to mez a Boss. So if you're encountering a purple Boss that you really don't want to have more than one shot at you, Dominate + Mesmerize + Dominate is the way to go. -
These are a lot of fun, but can get very hectic, particularly with the 2 or 3 odd teams we often get cycling through a single mayhem. (It's usually done by having someone join the mayhem team, enter the mission, get recalled onto the badge and then kicked ... rinse and repeat).
Also, be prompt if you want the early badges as it's not usually possible to run mayhems twice and keep the event moving along. -
That's ok, we can include South Africa. I've heard the New Zealand accent described as South African, but less evil. I suspect they'll fit in well.
