  1. The purpose of the experiment was to see if /Energy had improved.

Well, it has. I can now categorically state that I love Power Push. It's just every other power that gets a resounding meh.

I went in wanting to like Energy Assault (it certainly looks cool now with I16), but it still feels very underpowered compared to the other secondaries.

So I hit the delete button and rolled an SS/Elec Brute to detox.

    Google failed?

My children have never not had google. Damn, I'm old.

As a result, they increased the recharge and damage of many of the asault set powers which also required an increase in end cost (the exception was electric assault where they reduced the recharge, damage and end cost of the melee powers a little). As a result the DPE of most sets stayed the same but the DPA, overall DPS and EPS went up.
It's a minor point, but I suspect Electric Assault was a testbed for the I15 changes, rather than the Devs noticing its popularity.
  4. It's hard to characterise whats wrong without seeing a build or at least power choices.

I'll throw some general points though; they may be of some use:
    • Stamina will help with endurance (obviously), but the big improvement will come with better enhancements and more slots to put them in. That starts at 22, but your slot issues won't resolve until later.
    • Hot Feet is hellishly expensive. Running it all the time with less than 3 EndReduc SOs (or equivalent) in it will cause endurance issues. Many people skip this power until L22 (and personally, I don't even turn it on until L23 when I can stick some slots in it).
    • Also spamming Fire Cages will cause you issues. This is very tempting to do as it is flashy and has a nice quick recharge. However there are several reasons why you shouldn't, including the fact that it is quite end-expensive and you really don't get much bang for your buck. Use it by all means - it works well after Flashfires. But stop yourself from constantly reapplying it.
    • Flashfires isn't a great soft control, but realistically, it's what you have to live with. You'll need to 6-slot it ASAP and get some mix of enhancements that maximises Accuracy, Recharge and Stun duration. Cinders is panic button only stuff - you shouldn't be using it for real control purposes.
    Hope that helps!
  5. There's actually a couple of these already running on Justice in our timezone. As the teams hit 50 they tend to do another group with most of the same players, but they're usually after more just through natural attrition. The current groups are:

Blueside: The Extraordinary Eight (2nd time around for this lot) - Light roleplay, Tuesday nights, primarily MA missions created for the group.

Redside: D.U.N.C.E - Heavy roleplay, Monday nights.
  6. Welcome Garr.

Lots of good advice here already, and if you're looking for a VG in your timezone I would recommend you look at Sinister. Our website is here and we have some fairly active forums here. Fire a tell at any of the leaders (@Lili, @Min Min, @Redoubt) and we can hook you up with an invite. Thursday nights are usually good, as we've been running event nights for a while.

It's probably also worth checkout the Oceanic Lounge on these boards.

  8. Mud Pots does not have an Immob component.
  9. No, not really. Investment in a -kb IO won't go to waste, but Acrobatics is overkill given that the worst cases (some Bosses and EBs) you'll probably keep Domination for anyway. And with more and more recharge (Doms always want to slot for more recharge, and Hasten is just about mandatory), Domination will be up for a greater percentage of the time anyway.
  10. Gravity is always a challenging set because it doesn't get a decent AoE Control until you get to Wormhole, and even then what you get is a bit fiddly compared to the straightforward workhorses that all the other primaries get much, much earlier.

Psi used to be seriously underperforming which is probably where the perception of poor performance comes in. Two late blooming sets together is a recipe for trouble. However, I15 gave Psi a significant buff and I think Grav/Psi becomes quite doable because you can lean heavily on your secondary to make up for the poor performance of the primary.
  11. Min Min is a name I've used for a couple of heroes, including my first one.

The name comes from the Australian version of the "Ghost Lights" myth. My family has lived in several parts of far western Queensland which most people would associate with the Outback* and the Min Min were irregular night-time sightings throughout my childhood. Seriously spooky when you see them, particularly if you're driving at the time, as they will keep up with you and occasionally disappear and reappear.

The phenomena is pretty much explained now: it's a particularly cool representative of temperature inversion. Basically over-the-horizon reflections of light source off air layers with different temperatures, much like a mirage. Outback Australia is one of the few places in the world that have the right conditions: enough light sources, extremely large temperature variations (40c or more during the day, close to freezing at night) and large amounts of flat land with a mostly unimpeded view of the horizon.

The name has been recognised a few times by fellow aussies in game, but I've been surprised how many other aussies have never of heard the myth.

*The Outback - if you're from the city the Outback starts pretty much as soon as you stop seeing farmland and move into the drier grazing parts of the bush. If you're actually from the bush, then the Outback is more commonly thought of as areas where you can't see a tree. Anywhere. There's lots of Outback in Australia.

  13. It's not a bug; it's a feature.

Knockbock protection fouls up several useful knock* powers, like Ice Slick, Earthquake and Freezing Rain.

Having at least one control set where you can Immob and not interfere with those powers is a good thing.
  14. That's a fairly challenging combo, although not as much as it used to be.

Must haves: Gravity Distortion, Wormhole, Singularity, Mind Probe, TK Thrust, Psychic Scream, Drain Psyche, Psychic Shockwave

All the rest is negotiable, but I am partial to Psionic Lance and Subdue.
  15. I've been tossing around a few concepts as well:
    • Rogue Legacy Chain Tellus
    • Fire/Earth or Earth/Earth for a Magma Elemental
    • Mind/Earth with the crystal theme for /Earth ... new ager gone bad
Your Ice/Ice concept is pretty cool. I need to try out that colour combo and see if it works. The crystal colours I was able to come up with were a tad on the dim side.
  16. I confess I'm leaning towards Fire over Mind for a few reasons:
    • I want to take as much of /Energy as I can and so much of Fire is skippable
    • Fire gives me Immobs if I find I need to tone down the knockback from the ranged attacks
    • On a purely personal note, my current Dom is Mind/Elec, and I'm not so enamored of the primary that I want to do another 40 odd levels of it straight away
That being said, soft-capped ranged def + permadom is very nice. Do you find that the defense comes into play much?
  17. I'm going to roll a /Energy Dom with I16 to check out the I15 changes to /Energy and have a good base to play with the I16 customisations.

The issue I have is that I'm a bit ambivalent when it comes to the primary. The only primary I haven't taken to 32 is Gravity, but I'm a bit reluctant to do that one as I want this Dom to be useful for something after all that work and Gravity seems to have mediocre written all over it.

So, I'm looking for synergies I haven't thought of and suggestions of where to take this Dom. Just looking at it on paper, I'm thinking either Mind or Fire, but I'd be interested to see if anyone wants to argue the case for the other primaries.

I'm not sure that you can still say that about Psi and Icy. With the changes I think Icy lags Psi somewhat in damage, mainly because it lacks a good analogue to Psi's early hitters (Mind Probe, TK Thrust). You're also completely forgetting Drain Psyche. It's the only -regen that Doms get, and it's massive.
  19. I've long been critical of Dominator snipes, but the I15 overhaul has essentially changed my mind about them. They now do a significant amount of damage and they make excellent finishing moves against targets that have survived your initial control + AoE assault.

That being said, I've not spent a lot of time enhancing recharge on my current Dom, and I can see a point where my heavy hitting single target attacks will recharge quickly enough that I can just cycle those continuously. Ironically, I'll probably go a fair way towards doing that by 5-slotting my snipe with Sting of the Manticore

To be specific, a Dominator specced for ridiculous amounts of +recharge and using a fast-animating ST Hold can permahold a PToD AV. The PToD issue is worthwhile having a look at if you're not familiar with it, as it's the main thing you are trying to overcome here.

The problem comes with maintaining the level of hold magnitude to do so, given that over the reasonably long time that it would take to actually defeat an AV while solo or in a small team, your chances of getting two or three misses in a row is quite real. For this purpose having a backup strategy (usually a high mag quick cast Sleep) is important.

Mind Control gives both key requisites: Dominate animates in 1.1 secs and it has both Mezmerize and Mass Hypnosis for Sleep purposes.

From the cast time perspective Fire Control has an edge as well because Char has a cast time of 1.07 secs, but each of the other Control sets single target holds have cast times approaching 2 seconds (and over 2 seconds in the case of Plant). While that doesn't make things impossible, Mind and Fire do have the edge.

Finally, if you're after proof that it can be done, Liliaceae did some videos of his Mind/Fire permadom soloing a couple of PToD AVs on this thread here.

    Oh, yes.

    There will be clowns.

Bobo thinks Thursday will be HOT. So far 100% of survivors think that Cirque du Sinistre performances are terrific!

  24. So ... a nice cheap build then.

In all seriousness, do you have a lot of that stuff lying around? Because with a back of the envelope calculation I reckon you've got a few billion worth of purples there.
