FAQ states:
Q: Does the free month that was included with my game purchase count towards my reward time?
A: Yes.

But Ex Libris drives home the fundamental point here:

The four year live Anniversary of the game is April 28th, folks that have seen this badge prior to this date are encountering something that is not intended.

Ah, had not seen this post from Ex Libris, thanks.
In light of this, I propose a new position for NC Soft - The Continuity Coordinator. This person will keep a player from getting caught between a FAQ and a hard case. I feel retconned - minus the ret. -

FAQ states:
Q: Does the free month that was included with my game purchase count towards my reward time?
A: Yes.
I've purchased and have active on my account:
Retail Apr 29, 2004
DVD Nov 12, 2004
Preorder Oct 26, 2005
Collector Nov 1, 2005
City of Heroes® Good Versus Evil Special In-Game Item Pack Oct 5, 2006
City of Heroes® Wedding Pack Feb 14, 2008
Now I'm pretty sure one of those came with one month of game time, so shouldn't my reward be coming March 29th? If not, what 'game purchase' came with a free month?
(Note: There's a separate issue with some of the purchase dates that I know to be incorrect, but assuming the dates never change...)
[/ QUOTE ]
You're incorrect. If you purchased and activated a code on April 29th 2004, your first billing date was not until May 29th, 2004.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Collector purchase on Oct 1, 2005 comes with a free month. I pay 6 or 12 months at a time and have since I started playing. According to the FAQ, that month of free time is credited toward rewards and according to PlayNC the free time is tacked onto the end, not the beginning (since I've already paid). I couldn't honestly tell you if I paid my first sub before or after my initial 30 free days in April, but that still leaves the Collector's edition 30 days unaccounted for as far as vet rewards go.
I'm thinking the FAQ Q&A is just worded poorly, but it reads as though that free month should count toward my reward time. -

Q: What is power customization?

<SNIP A LOT OF BAD NEWS>

Q: What about the hammer from Stone Melee, or the swords for Ice Melee and Fire Melee? Could those be made into custom weapons too?
[/ QUOTE ]
A: Technically, yes...they could. Still, I think we'd prefer to hold off on these particular powers until we can deal with being able to customize the whole powerset. Otherwise we could paint ourselves into a corner by making the elemental weapons customizeable and then not being able to make the rest of the power FX customizeable because of that.

Being an industrial nation with the closest proximity to the current super power in the world means that our culture is heavly impacted by yours. This movie (read:ad) is about "fixing" some of the generalizations about Canada that we see every day in the tv/radio/print that we get from your country.
And the point about us speaking English and French is not to point out we are bilingual (Im not) but more to point out the idiocy of calling English "American"
[/ QUOTE ]
There's something wholly ironic about a Canadian refuting stereotypes Americans may hold and then add one about Americans themselves.
Please note, anyone saying they speak "American" is a dolt. It's generally a joke Americans use when referring to the worst parts of our population, such as the international phenomena known as "Ugly Americans." For some reason "Ugly Americans" are more traveled yet far less intelligent than your average American.
Now, being from Michigan I can tell you my stereotype of Canadians is a bunch of nitwits who speed, swerve, and break all the traffic laws because they simply drive home and ignore it when we send them tickets. Also, Canadians in Windsor and Sarnia *do* say a-boot. The Canadians in Montreal also say things but I don't listen because it's all in French.
Also, being from Michigan, we know for a fact Canada is NOT number one in hockey (and hasn't been since 1993). The Red Wings are. This means a primarily foreign team based in Detroit pwnz joo. This could definitely be used as a model for most U.S. relations - import a bunch of good things, craft them together into a single GREAT thing, and unleash it upon the world whether they like it or not, usually to increase our level of win.

Yay for the Prima binder... that they dropped after the issue 7 update. After it was released for issue 6.
To this we can now add the end of the second publisher's comic run!
[/ QUOTE ]
They discontinued the binders?! I bought both, just figured they were slow with them. Glad they were professional enough to let the customers know we'd wasted our money on the "updatable" game guide.
Wow. Very few companies make me feel like a sucker. If this is true and the binders have been cancelled, rather than Cryptic just being their typically slow as hell selves, then I can save myself some time and stop participating in this community.
What would be the point? The reason I never went back to SOE is because their people lacked the spirit of the gamer. Cryptic always seemed to be a company of gamers. If that's changed, which cancelling supposedly continuous products without announcment would indicate, then they just lost not only my support, but my respect as well.
Those Prima binders weren't cheap. Updated content was the promise. How else can you regard people who don't keep their promises? -
[ QUOTE ]
I won't miss it per se. But I'll be a [censored] about things anyways.
I frankly don't feel that the two "support of quality player initiatives" features or more contests are in any way compensation for the lack of something that was billed as a feature of the game that'd be part of our subscription.
More Staff-sponsored in-game events and heavier focus on new in-game content is on the other hand something I can get behind.
That said?
We have a great many fledgling (and not so fledgling) artists here, some of which I'm sure would love a wider audience than the art forums. Why not toss in an offer to publish people's actual comics as downloadable PDFs through the main website as part of an 'official' anthology? As a derivative work of COH, it should be nicely covered by the EULA's 'non-exclusive rights' clause. That way you could at least claim there'd still be a COH comic.

I teamed with Blumyst on a DarkDark Defender last night. It only took one near-team wipe to figure out we were the veterans of the group. We had a blaster who was unfortunately very accustomed to aggro dragging.
No one was silly enough to call for Heelz, though-- just disorganized in not letting the Tanker pick the target.

I teamed with Blumyst this weekend, too. Dr. Mighty and Blumyst were the only ones that made it back out the mission door, too. -

You do realize I've done this so far with Stone Armor/Super Strength (Tanker) and Fire/Fire Brute? Next is probably going to be a Corruptor. If they start nerfing, they may as well do another global nerf cause I can do this with any character.
Or they could buff AV's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or we could reduce the effectiveness of a suite of Temp Powers. Shivans and the Nuke's are pretty dang good.
And before more people jump on Optimus, we've known those powers were over the top since they were created.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I read that correctly ... They'll be nerfed before I ever get one ...
AGAIN ...

Well, if they do make sure you save this thread. Nice to point out that development is poorly done if the team releases something they know to be overpowered thinking it's ok to nerf it later.

Adam,
Thanks for taking the time to write this and contribute. Although the rest of the post is longer, this first line is the most important one
I understand, but don't necessarily agree with, some of your points.
The main one is why people complain about the lack of content compared to other games. While CoH has interesting story lines, once you've played through them, you've seen them all. The best you can hope for is that you accidentally outlevel a contact so you can try and not outlevel them on your alt's way up to 50.
Other games have different paths you can take, hidden contacts, and a variety of mission types to include riddles, puzzles, exploration, collection, and 'thinking' missions to get around the "punch to the end" CoH paradigm.
I think you know I'm not a rush to 50 guy and I'm a certified altaholic with 24 toons on Champion alone, but the people who 'cry' for content aren't doing so because they PLed to the end and don't know what to do now. It's because there's a straight line path to the end and you're done. Roll an alt and follow the same straight line path to the end with the exception of the first few levels based on origin.
The addition of the Kheldians and their storyline is great. They are improving with the addition of the Hollows, Striga, and Croatoa. Faultline will be a good addition if it has it's own storylines, too. But they need to get out of the mindset where contact A sends you to contact B who sends you to contact C and all three contacts tell you to go to a door, punch everything inside, and then come back.
In all honesty, I see that EQ was lumped into the "worse than CoH on content" games. However, EQ II (realizing it's not EQ) has over 3000+ quests each with its own special aspects and almost impossible to find them all. Perhaps EQ has already implemented lessons CoH should seriously consider (like friggin player apartments). On top of that, you can go back and finish a lot of the lower level quests just to read the storylines! If someone's rushing to the end of EQ II and skipping the incredibly rich tapestry of fiction and background, they're doing themselves a great disservice.
Where EQ II (continuing to use the example) has immersive, exhaustive content on the way up, it also has things to do when you get there. CoH just has the ride up. And with games like EQ II acknowledging the success CoH had with altaholics and expanding their character slots per server, CoH has got to bring their game more in-line with games offering a complex array of things to do.
CoH did a LOT of things right. Content isn't one of them. -

I find this shocking. I thought the single most requested item would be new content followed by, specifically, post-50 content.

You'd be surprised how many people haven't hit 50.
You probably wouldn't be surprised at how many people have rolled alts and had to come up with costumes for them.

I think you missed the first half of the point and went straight into the second part.
FYI - I have 2 accounts with 24 characters on Champion alone. I'm bored to death with the content in the early levels. No variation.
Nothing in the above response addresses the argument the post poses: content in general. -

Let's turn to the idea of an architect. We foresaw that some people would feel alienated if they weren't the architect. That's why some things (Personal Items) can be "crafted" by individuals and placed in the base. But even if there's an architect: many super groups have a member who designed a single costume which all then use. In other words, they're more than willing to accept someone else's opinion in the group identity for their avatar appearance. Again, the primary difference is cost (I think).
[/ QUOTE ]
A player has several costume slots to express themselves and many have no problem dedicating ONE of them to an SG uniform.
This doesn't translate to bases. You have 1 base. The architect in many cases is the same person who will craft items and place them. Why would the architect want to stop half way through, hope someone is on to build a teleporter, wait for them to do so, then move it themselves anyway to where he wanted it in the first place?
This parallel would make much more sense if players already had "apartments" where they could do their own thing and then had the SG base where it was an expression of teamwork.
Then you would have personal and team creative expression in costumes and bases. Right now, you have it in costumes only. The base system is highly exclusionary in that you have up to 75 people earning points (to the detriment of their characters influence totals) so one person can go play with them.
