Quote:I'm going to have to agree with you. I think it's a combination of this and an old argument tankers used to have about which was better for farms, Fire/Fire or SS/Fire.Me, I think that it's a holdout perception from before Brutes got Claws. The larger radius definitely helps for ease of use (i.e., you don't need to make sure that everything is packed in tight around you before using it), but I'm thinking that people still aren't thinking of Claws when it comes to Brutes, even though they've had it for a bit.

I've also seen SS/fire mentioned a lot over the years, but truth be told, very rarely have I seen an elec/fire.

Bill, I want to thank you for bringing the final say to the argument. While we don't have the numbers on Elec, I can say with reasonable certainty that if claws is so far ahead, elec will be too.

To the guy championing the cause of Elec/Fire, I was wrong, you were right.

 Good hunting.

Quote:You're making claims with no mathematical evidence, which makes them moot. Show us the numbers and we'll prove you wrong with math of our own.I would not assume anything. I have never played wow in my life. I could not tell you the first thing about the game.. why would you even say such a silly thing anyway. Its pretty clear from your tone that you don't know what you are talking about.

I think Elec fire is pretty good and I think it is the best in the game.

When you can take down 54's with FieryEmbrace/Burn/buildup/LR and the whole first wave is dead but for the bosses who need one more burn and thunderstrike I think that says enough. Thats about 30 seconds and LR is back up if needed. AND NO REDS NEEDED FOR THAT

Ya I see no reason to waste time with SS and rage crash.

Also, I've been hanging out on these boards a long time. I've seen many people, like yourself act belligerently and get sat down with simple fact and a side of proof. That's how this turn of events will inevitably die.

 Good hunting.

I was going to post some helpful information, but I don't want to be berated like the gentlemen above. Though I wish you luck with your toon, you can find your own way.
-
Quote:It's pretty clear from the tone of your post that you were once a WoW player who was active in the forum community. You are the last person anyone on this whole board should listen to when it comes to talking about farming. If anyone doubts that just find some of his builds he posted.

Recomended reading for how not to build a toon.

SS has the best AoE in the game, and the combination of foot stomp and rage (even more so with double rage) is devastating. Double raged it eclipses the damage of FSC IIRC with twice the range. The new (old) burn makes the combo even more incredible.

While Elec has one true AoE that isn't affected by fury, and several pseudo AoE's like chain induction, who's initial hit is affected by fury but none of the jumps are, and jacob's ladder which IIRC only affects 5 targets. Not to say Elec has no place, it's a fun set with a lot of multitarget abilities. None of them however are superior to foot stomp and rage, let alone double rage.

Matter of fact, isn't claws a better set for AoE than Elec? Simply based on the fact that it's T9 is affected by fury would be enough do choose it over the other for me.

 Good hunting.

My wife's computer occasionally goes into a broken glass type of screen while playing that appears to happen randomly and go away just as randomly. I desperately want to fix this so we can get back to enjoying the game together. Can anyone give me a hand?

Yeah, it's almost spammable too. Also bears mentioning that you can immobilize an AV with it. Maybe it's just me but I found that pretty impressive. Immobilizing an AV will add an enormous amount of damage as the napalm starts piling up.
-
It depends on your playstyle. I've played /dark extensively and it plays a lot like a controller. It has a nice aoe heal, a BAMF debuff in darkest night, a cone fear, a single target hold, and a pet who does all of those. If you like playing as a controller, you'll love /dark.

On the opposite side of the coin, /traps is easily defense cappable when paired with bots, making you incredibly difficult to kill, and also has a ton of good powers to tear the world a new butt hole as a walking force of unstoppable chaos and destruction. Acid mortar makes everything take more damage, poison gas trap halts regeneration, triage beacon is like a perma, though immobile, instant healing, seeker drones pick up alphas and debuff the mobs ability to hurt you, and trip mine is just too damn fun if you enjoy setting a boom line before you pull a boss. Also, /traps is really nice if you like to take AV's and hold them underwater until the bubbles stop. I find it helps morale to be laughing maniacally because there's not a damn thing they can do about it, too.

I can't say enough good things about either set. They're both so awesome. Although I will say that /traps can be a little boring in the early levels. It doesn't become active until about SO level. That is of course unless you're REALLY into immobing things.

Try slotting multiple procs into caltrops and tossing them on a group with your bots on passive. Watching things die from pain in their feet = maximum fun!

I have never messed around with IO's or the market, really. I played from beta through issue 5 and then came back for about a month or so here and there since then. I have a LOT of catching up to do. Can IO's be bought from contacts or do you always have to caft them yourself? (aside from buying them on the AH) When is a good time to start slotting common IO's in favor of TOs, DOs, and SOs? I heard 35, is that right? I understand the idea behind IO's, both common and sets, I'm just not sure how I should go about getting them into my toons.
-
Quote:Might be some defense debuffs in there. There's a ton of videos of scrappers with /SR taking down AV's, and they have less hp than brutes.Hey there, my Dark/SR Brute just hit 50 and I tried to solo AVs, after pushing him to softcap with about 50% def against all positions, but i did not manage to take down Indigo on lvl 52.
She just hit through my def like a hot knife through butter.
So here´s my question: Is it managable to take down AVs with /SR?
Or is it just just this one with the incredible dmgoutput that laughs at me?

Quote:My point was that it will take a lot to "god mode" a /FA set compared to other sets. Can you? That depends on how well you are built.
As far as the above post is concerned, FA's out of the box holes are largely irrelevant when talking about the high end of the game and farming specifically. I would assume at the very least that anyone at lvl 50 has the KB protection covered.
I wouldn't say that FA has "a lot" of holes, either. The main issue is kb, but that is easily covered with or without IOs.
-
/fire is a fairly squishy defensive set unfortunately. It has a lot of holes, lacking KB protection, no immob protection (unless you take burn), and the resistance numbers are a little low. On the flip side you get a strong heal and a good end recovery power. With that many nem on you though, I don't think the heal will matter very much. I would say it'll be an expensive build to IO to come up to the performance level of /WP vs the nem farm map.

Im on the opposite side of the fence. I LOVE claws. Today I made my first one I intend to level. He's 29 now, and having an aoe and ranged attack early have been such a boon.
-
Patrons are pretty unnecessary for claws/elec. They dont give you anything worth having IMO, if I were to fit tough in, it'd be there.

Edit: Also, what I plan to do with my claws/elec is take stamina at 22, and respec out of it at 36 when I get power sink slotted. It's something like a 30 second recharge when 3 slotted, and I can go 30 seconds without whiffing I think. That frees up a lot of powers. Also taking SS frees two over other travel powers for hasten is reccomended.

Quote:That's what I did. Started him around 3 pm today. Just dinged 17. <3 double xp.Reading this thread made me sad that I've been planning on leveling my SS/WP all this weekend.

 Oh well.

-
DAMNIT! I spent 12 hours last night getting my ss/wp brute from 25 to 33 so I could get foot stomp. I should have rolled a claws. Ok that'll be my project tomorrow with my buddy then. What secondary should I be looking at? Is elec going to be the way to go for this guy due to the lower recharge of claws synergizing great with the +recharge of elec?

Edit: And Bill, according to your thread on the scrapper forums, doesn't Brute Claws out dps brute SS by a large margin?
-
I'm thinking of making a brute this weekend, and claws looks like a lot of fun. How does it compare after SS gets footstomp? Is the single target damage close? Also, what secondary goes well? I was thinking /SR or /elec, or would willpower be better? I'm looking forward to responses
-
I don't know about your math, but I believe the reason AV's don't run out of your burn patch is because Burn's terrorize mag isn't high enough to overcome their resistances to it.

 I'm pretty sure, anyway.
-
Ar/fire blaster. Talk about useless >.>

Quote:Also bear in mind this was when GM's had a level. Powers then could be 6 slotted for damage, and the general balance of the game hadn't come around yet, so power's base damage was far higher than it is today.Actually, a lot of work has gone into the analysis on this, and there are no Scrapper builds that can obtain the DPS levels needed to overcome a Giant Monster's regen levels. The absolute best DPS builds out there are /Shield Scrappers with saturated AAO, and it's not high enough when paired with the best DPS primaries, like Dark Melee or Fire Melee.

The major contributor to soloing such entities is large -Regen debuffs. The ones of 500% and larger, even when resisted by level 50 GM resistances, are such as to contribute such a large effective DPS that ATs with much lower inherent raw DPS capabilities can be built to overcome what's left.

Of course back then we didn't have all the tools to track the results like we do now, so I may be completely wrong on this. But given the nerf and renerf of the scrapper sets, I'd say it's pretty close.

Remember, I didn't see him kill it, or keep track of inspiration use. I got bored after 10 minutes and went back to playing.
-
I've watched a ton of videos where MM's solo Deathsurge and scrapyard. A few of them were already posted here so I won't go to the trouble of finding them.

On the opposite side of the coin, I have watched a scrapper solo a GM. Granted, it was back in I2 when regen was god and damage on the sets was through the roof. When I5 and 6 hit I'm pretty damn sure it was undoable. With the invention system, I wouldn't put it past some builds.

At any rate, I stuck around for about 10 minutes to watch. I couldn't believe how wicked this guy looked. I was playing my ill/storm back then, and didn't understand how to play controllers. Plus it was precontainment, so our damage was really low. I later realized I was doing it wrong and that we were gods among the other AT's with multiple phantasms and an entourage of 25 fire imps following us around. I wish I had known how strong I was, I'd have given it a shot.
-
I know that much. But thanks But thanks
