You may find this guide useful from the U.S Forums...
it has interesting thoughts and things to say really
The Harsh Reality of PvP
Chiefette
[/ QUOTE ]
that's a great thread.
[ QUOTE ]
In summary, PVP is not fair! You will be mezzed. You will be attacked by multiple opponents, simultaneously. You need to stick together with your teammates. Non-melee ATs (squishies) are targeted first. You will be attacked by opponents you cannot see. Never say anything to the opponents, ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
I like the part about PVP not being fair the best. The trick to PVP is making the unfair part not happen to you, but to your opponent.

[ QUOTE ]
I remeber seeing (this is quite a long time ago) someone saying that elec/ice was one the best archtypes you could have together on a blaster. I would like to know if it is really ?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's great if you like not having much damage. I think you got confused and switched around the primary and secondary. Ice/Elec is a much stronger combo than Elec/Ice -
[ QUOTE ]
The only technical innovation here (as far as i know) is the use of software-generated camera motions using spherical coordinates for a more "motion picture" feeling.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's the thing i noticed most about this. Your camera movements were so smooth and precise, totally unlike any other demo I've seen before. I figured you must have scripted it somehow. Very nicely done. -
because they have repel resistance. Otherwise I'd go for an Ice/Em/Body tank. At least equally as unkillable, but with added control from slows.
-
LOL, i'm actually surprised you managed something like that with artpad
. I usually just see people drawing dirty words and certain bodyparts with it
. Well done

You say that people calling tactics 'unfair' took the fun out of it for you. Did you ever consider that ganking a team without a kin or invul for 10 minutes using tp and force bub in the office map was not fun for them? Yes, I agree that the complaining was lame, and I certainly didn't complain myself, but relentlessy ganking for 10 minutes is not the spirit that the Union team ever played the event in. If we are ever comfortably winning we ease off and target the tanks/scrappers more to keep the match fun for both teams.
I don't want to fuel any more arguments. What I actually want is the level of attendance on monday nights to rise again. The last few weeks have produced 2 full teams which is almost pointless (I forgot this monday unfortunately) and decent PvP is becomming difficult to come by.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just for clarification here, for the people who don't know what Gatling is talking about, it wasn't the Defiant team that pulled the Office map/Force Bubble tactic, it was one of the French teams afaik. We just got a bit miffed when people started complaining about Bubblers in Broadcast/Arena. That's all.
As for the Monday night turnout, I guess it's been a mix of problems lately that prevented people from showing up. I'll be there in two weeks again, as I have to work evenings this week and next week. I'll cya then.
ps. If anyone prefers to not fight a bubbler, I can always field 2 different flavours of Blaster.(both have Hami-O's)

I know its a pvp zone but i didnt see many villains about last night being opportunistic looking to spoil peoples chances to get the AV badges, which is nice. I am a person behind my villain and i understand that there is a person behind a hero simply in the zone to get the AV badges and may have no interest in a PVPer looking to make their life hard and spoiling their fun sadly though imo there will be some looking for easy game to get their PVP rating up but for me whoever does that, has nothing to brag about.
[/ QUOTE ]
The new zone is now 1 day old. Can we please not start this discussion already. It's a PVP zone, kill whomever you want whenever you feel like it. Badges be damned. -
That is so cool.
Anyone want to have at one of my characters? I'd very much appreciate it.

I'm not gonna be there, as I have to work.
Also, team 8 is 3 scrappers. -

btw, How cool would it be if your character could age physically in an MMO? Kinda like in Fable, but a lot less fast.
[/ QUOTE ]
funny you should mention it in the new Warhammer MMO your character will age and obtain battle markings the higher lvl he is and the time he has spent in game... in the case of the ork the older they are the larger they grow

Sounds good. I'll keep my eye on that one. -

not really. A lot less people have repel resistance, compared to people who have mez protection. Anybody can get combat jumping and acrobatics to stop them from being immobbed and knocked down. Only 3-4 powersets in the entire game give resistance to repel.
[/ QUOTE ]
Has anyone tried Sonic Repulsion? I haven't bothered for PvE but am wondering whether it could work in PvP (even though it's ally-based).
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, if you like having no end. It has a tohit-check in it as well (at least, I was seeing lots of "Miss!" ticks when I was using it on people) which you can't slot for, so it's not really that great. The range is tiny as well, so you can't really drop it on someone and then move away from them as it'll switch right off again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sonic repulsion is like Repulsion Field from the ForceField Pool. The name is misleading as it doesn't do repel. It does knockdown. It was handy in Siren's as a way to interrupt AS, but in I7 that won't work anymore, as only damage attacks will interrupt it. -
[ QUOTE ]
However, I would argue that this is less of an advantage for a 'troller than a defender. In PvP or PvE it is fairly easy to stay out of melee most of the time (although in PvP you will need to be mobile/evasive) with holds/immobs/slows etc.

And although liquefy is pretty rubbish, its not so rubbish when its cast on an area already plagues by an earthquake or ice slick.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but why would you stack it on Earthquake? Both do exactly the same thing. At least you can almost perma Earthquake. -

Looking at hero planner 3 slotted with damage it does 80% of the damage as a 3 slotted energy punch, means you can spam it more without losing much DPS.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hero Planner has incorrect Brawl Index values for both Energy Punch and Bone Smasher. The database is messed up, giving you the values for the Tank version of the powers instead. That, or someone hase been screwing with it.
Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch from the Electric set have more accurate values, and are only slightly higher than the values for both Energy Punch and Bone Smasher. Check those values if you want an accurate guess towards the damage of Energy Punch and Bone Smasher. -

Don't slot Power Thrust with damage, 2 accuracy's is all you need..
[/ QUOTE ]
Got to disagree.
I highly recommend slotting power thrust for damage. It doesn't do that much less than energy punch. Slot it and see.
[/ QUOTE ]
I did. Energy Punch does more than twice the damage of Power Thrust. Power Thrust does less damage than Shriek. You shouldn't slot a melee attack that does so little damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not when i use it it doesn't.
As for shouldn't. That's highly debatable. The more damage the better as a blaster, blapper, blaptroller, blaptrank etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
You must have a special version of Power Thrust that nobody but you has then.
I was just doing a mission, removed all the damage slots from Energy Punch and hit even level mobs for more that twice the damage than Powerthrust, which has no damage on it. So if one Power not slotted for damage does more than twice the damage than another power not slotted for damage, I'd say that the first power defenitely does a lot more damage then.
And about not slotting Powerthrust for damage, you really should not. It's called effecient slotting. You're wasting slots if you slot powers that give so little extra benefit. Slot other more effective powers first, before you start wasting slots on things like Powerthrust. Don't slot defbuffs on things like Hover or Combat Jumping, and don't slot Powerthrust for damage. It's a waste.
Powerthrust is a good power, one of the best lv 1 powers, but not for the damage it does. It's handy as a semi control power, with the knockback(don't slot it for knockback though). -

I dont think you and I are going to agree on this at all... sorry
As far as I can see, the relative lowering of /sonic from defender --> troller is exactly the same as /forcefield.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you go by that reasoning, then there would be no difference between Sonic or FF. FF has Force Bubble though, which is just so much better than the lv 38 Sonic Power, it's not even funny. Force Bubble is just very very good in PVP, which gives Forcefield a big advantage. For example, I don't even have the single target buffs on my /FF controller. I would never ever roll a /Sonic troller and not get those buffs. That's how good Force Bubble is.
That's not to say that Sonic isn't good though. It's a different type of good. I wouldn't mind seeing Sonic buffed Fire Imps with the debuff toggle on them. That should be pretty decent damage. You'll be a lot more open to attack though. You have no self heal and no other way to protect yourself. -

I agree that Sonic is lacking in AoE damage, but I don't agree that it's a Blasters job to do said AoE damage. A Blaster should do damage, be it single target or AoE, but not exclusive to on type or another. Both my Blasters are almost strictly single target damage dealers. I take care of the nasty bosses while my team mops up the minions.
Probably a lot of Blaster sets will be lacking if you focus on AoE damage, I think. -

Sonic also has phase power, ally rings, and PBAoE mez protection. I'd say sonic for team PvP, FF for solo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, the sonic set isn't worth it on a Controller. FF offers the same bonuses (PbAoE mez protection, single target phase) as well as some brilliant powers like Force Bubble and Repulsion Bomb. The values for /sonic are way too low, and Liquefy just doesn't compare to Force Bubble at all.
Yeah, they have clarity but if you're on a team you should have an empath with Clear Mind anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
IM sorry I dont get this at all. /sonic valules decriment at exactly the same values as /force field for controllers, so this make no sense at all to me?
Have you actually tried a /sonic controller? When I solo in PvE There is a small but significant speed increase with /sonic vs /forcefield. This in on my grav troller who I rerolled at level 16 from grav/ff to grav/sonic. Bearing in mind with solo I have suficient lock-down to not need much defence, the extra resistance-debuff speeds me up.
And come level 32 I will have even more resistance debuff when using disruption field on my singularity.
Sorry, dont get it. If anyone else has personal experience of /sonic and /forcefield on the same set, please correct me.
The only thing i miss from /forcefield is pff, but I havent died once soloing my grav/sonic since level 22.
Oh, and you should have an empath on the team? what nonsense is that. Empaths, IMHO become progressively less useful on large teams and higher level teams. Past mid 30's about the only thing I DO want an empath for is clear mind. Id far rather have a sonic controller maxing out the tanks resistances, providing us all with AoE and toggle mez protection, and using sonic disruption around the tank so we all have a massive damage bonus.
[/ QUOTE ]
We're talking about PVP though. Different rules apply. -
Don't slot Power Thrust with damage, 2 accuracy's is all you need. Don't get Total Focus, get Bone Smasher instead. The animation is much quicker, and it recharges much faster. Never ever pick Total Focus over Bone Smasher as it's overrated.
also, could you explain this?
[ QUOTE ]
but I do like some of the buffs from the energy set for making my ranged hits hurt just that little bit more.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming you're reffering to Power Boost here? As far as I know it does NOT effect the secondary effect of Sonic Blast. Don't ask me why, as I don't know. Just Cryptic being Cryptic I guess.
Now that we've got that out of the way, I don't see a reason for you to pick */nrg secondary above most other sets, as you clearly do not take full advantage of the set. You could've easily gone with Electric, Ice or even Fire secondary. Personally I would've gone with Electric Secondary for the added control. -

I should start thinking about my 4th cossie, just in case I ever level this toon to lv 40. -
Don't bother drawing me in anymore, as I'll be working evenings the next two weeks sadly. I'll bring one of my blasters to sub after that, if it's still going.
-
Go for Sonic if you want to play support and do some damage. I doesn't offer much protection, but it can boost your damage output a nice bit, by using debuffs.
Force Field will give you good protection in PVP and you can play it offensively by seperating enemy teams. It won't help your damage output much though, but you'll be damn annoying to fight.
I'd say both are viable toons, they just lend themselves to different playstyles. You'd be more unique as a Fire/Sonic as well.
-
I can't really comment much on Gravity, as i know absolutely nothing about it. So, I'll just stick to the FF powers.
I'd put at least 3 slots on Force Bolt. 2 acc and one recharge. This will be for spamming knockdown on someone. In I7, Forcebolt's toggleknock ability will be near non existent, so let's just hope you find someone without Acrobatics in a fight.
Dispersion Bubble I'd slot with 3 endreducs instead as it's quite heavy on the end drain. Only slot Defbuffs if you don't have anything better to slot.
Detention field should have 5-6 slots if you plan on using it regularly. The recharge is about 25 seconds, but the actual duration in PVP is much shorter than in PVE. I'd say it's about 15 seconds duration. So 3 recharges + 2 acc would be minimum slotting.
Repulsion Field. Why are you getting this?? You're getting Force Bubble.
Force Bubble. 2 end reducs are enough.
Now for some comments on the Powerpools.
Hover. Don't slot this with defbuffs, it's defense value is pitifully low, not worth boosting at all. I'd say don't slot this at all, except maybe with flyspeed.
Fly. Put at least one end reduc on this, even if you're planning to switch between hover and fly in a fight.
Health. Drop this and get Hurdle, so you can jump around a bit when you get -fly on you.
Boxing and Tough. I wouldn't get this at all. It's unlikely you'll be soloing much on this build. I'd probably get Deflection Shield and Insulation Shield and buff those with Powerboost before you use them.
One note about slotting holds. Make sure you slot them with at least 2 acc and 2 recharge, so you can stack it. Recommended is 2 acc, 1 hold 3 recharge.
One more thing. Not sure if it's in there, but get your single target immobilize and slot it heavily with recharge. It's something that you can easily spam on someone for getting through mez protection and getting containment damage in PVP.
