Muramasa rules, and there are no good MMOs on the horizon. The genre is dead, long live CoX!

Quote:I'll defend GP's honor here. He certainly kept me buffed this week (and the Cold Corr as well)... my 44% resists were including the shields.Think I have had em once in 3 hours from any sonic on the team and that was just for one night. It's blatantly obvious there are "no sonics" when you have your defense and resist numbers up and see nothing but goose eggs for resistance values. I came to the conclusion that most of the sonic players didn't focus on the sonic defense set and instead focused on their primary/secondary or travel pools...

Quote:In all honestly, I'm underwhelmed with what we heard out of Hero Con, too. Ultra graphics mode? If I wanted pretty graphics I'd be playing CO (yeah, I went there). New sets? We've known about these for ages, and it's only two Primaries. Side switching? Again, they're just putting some details to gameplay we've known about forever. New Enemy Groups? Intriguing for sure... but I was hoping for more than what we saw.I get more enjoyment reading your posts and imagining your eyes getting all glazed over and Doe-like with excitement from new things like this and other Issue updates.
My hopes for GR are pinned on all the new content that'll be in there, and that content is really hard to evaluate until you try it in Closed Beta. In a completely uncharacteristic move, I'm withholding judgement on GR until I actually play with it for a bit. -
Quote:I don't think you understand. Praetoria is a whole new City's worth of content. You can be a Hero or Villain, go there and do lots of stuff and never change sides. Hell, you can roll a new Praetorian toon and not even deal with side-switching... you just pick your allegiance (Loyalist or Resistance) and (I think..) that determines whether you can visit Paragon (and become a Hero) or the Isles (and become a Villain).Unless there is content strictly for either side *on top of* the rogue/vigilante stuff, there isn't really "content" that interests me. Side switching, since being announced 1+ year ago, hasn't really appealed to me.
You don't need to touch the side-switching mechanic to enjoy the vast majority of the new Praetorian content. -

Quote:Devices doesn't work well with Dual Pistols? All this talk of the blaster primary....no new secondary? I'm at a loss thematically and mechanically of which Blaster secondary would "work well" with a dual weapon set. If every click-type power was putting away the guns, I wouldn't make it out of the tutorial with the character out of sheer annoyance alone. "Not using" a Secondary is assinine IMO. That's kind of why I was hoping it'd be a Scrapper set so the secondary could be more toggle-based than click.
Is it being ported to Defenders and/or Corruptors? Quite a few more primary/secondary sets there that I could make work than I could for Blasters.
And to answer your question, Defenders and Corruptors are also getting Dual Pistols. -

Aw, no need to apologize, GP. I'm not very well slotted out, so even with everyone buffing me my resists were around 44%, and with no self heal that's a recipe for disaster taking the alphas. In terms of my survivability it was Danaan->Caps->Cabal. Those witches tore me to piece with energy damage and end drain...
I need to do some cheating to catch up with you guys. -

Quote:That's how I understood it as well, which makes staying V/R even more appealing.that's odd.... Thought he said that R/Vs were still flagged as their initial type (hero/villain) and could use only the markets of that side, but could still travel to the zone of the other.
edit: I think the "They cannot use the markets while they are there however" is what I'm saying. They can only use the market of the side they were initially on.
As far as the "smuggler" scenario, it sounds like it will take a decent amount of effort to go from Full Hero to Full Villain, so I don't think many people will do it specifically for profiting from the opposite-side market. -
Posi's recent clarifying comments make it pretty clear that the only downside to playing a Vigilante/Rogue is not being able to use the market:
Quote:- A Vigilante (Rogue) can travel to the Rogue Isles (Paragon City), and can team up with the Villains (Heroes) there. They can not use the markets while they are there however. They must be a full Villain (Hero) to use the markets.

Quote:It was in this thread.MG, that was hilarious. Oh, and I'm still wondering how you know it's going to be 70/30 for the damage. I also wonder if the regular ammo Dual Pistols will get a slight damage buff to
Here's the relevant bit:
Quote:Four types of bullets that change 30% of the damage dealt and the secondary effect:
Regular (100% Lethal dmg)
Incendiary (70% Lethal dmg/30% Fire dmg + DoT)
Cryo (70% Lethal dmg/30% Cold dmg + Speed debuff)
Chemica (70% Lethal dmg/30% Toxic dmg + Debuff of some sort(TBC)) -
I'm going to make a Duel Pistols Corruptor based on the ghost of Aaron Burr.
I'll probably make a Dual Pistols character as well. -
Also, the damage split for the exotic ammo is 70% lethal, 30% special (fire, toxic, cold)
-
Quote:There Pol goes again, getting Hor in trouble...And seriously, Horatus, if someone obviously doesn't want to be ribbed, let it go. Viv obviously jokes around most of the time, but we all have days where we can't take it so well.
Quote:Anyway, back on with my OP. Not sure what to do with the ammo for the dual pistols... we'll have to see what the secondary does. It might be as simple as fire doing more ticks of damage, ice slowing, toxic lowering resists, and lethal lowering defense, but who knows, it might be more complex. Might go with ice for the look, but we'll see. -
I would assume V/Rs can use all contacts, join all TFs/SFs, probably enter bases. I'm not sure about O-zone, but I would assume they can use the O-zone on the side they're on. To switch sides I think they're going to make you go through Praetoria.
If there are restrictions on actual content when you're V/R, then it becomes pointless. If there are no restrictions (aside from the market), then I see no reason (again, except RP reasons) why one wouldn't want to stay V/R forever. -
Quote:Thanks for the update, Sarrate. I watched the video but I didn't get that switching sides went further than Vigilante/Rogue. However, if Vigilantes and Rogues get access to both sides with the only restriction that they can't use the opposite-Market, I don't know why (absent RP reasons) everyone wouldn't want to walk the line all the time. We still haven't heard about the benefits of staying true to your initial moral compass, but I don't see how it could compete with all the extra content you get from straddling both sides.A Rogue or Vigilante is an intermediate step between being a Hero or Villain. So while a Rogue cannot access WW, a Rogue who becomes a full fledged Hero can. Posi also said that a character can go from Hero to Vigilante to Villain, use the BM, then back to Hero and use WW and vice versa). Of course, this will take effort (how much isn't stated) and time.
Iirc, the intermediate roles cannot trade with the opposing faction, which would eliminate the work/time requirement mentioned above. (Posi mentioned trading insps, but I'm not sure if that only applies to intermediates, or if pure Heroes and Villains can trade with one another during coops.) -
Quote:The Devs keep saying "several zones". Do the Doomers imagine these zones will be devoid of contacts and missions?Once I know what all is in there, if there isn't much added to missions, etc., I'll complain. But for now, this is a great peak, and enough to get sane people excited.
What we've heard so far is really the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. The meat of GR is the new zones, contacts, arcs, etc. -
Quote:I don't even understand how this will work. Do Vigilantes and Rogues have access to both sides, or only the opposite side they started on? If it's the former, do they need to return to their side of origin to do business? If it's the latter, do they get access to the Wentworth's market through Black Market sites, and vice versa? Or maybe this is handled by having both Wentworth's and the Black Market in Praetoria, where everyone can go? What about Neutrals that start out in Praetoria? Is there a P-side market?Sounds like the side switching equals being able to go to the other side of the game, but you still have to use the market you started with (I hope this is incorrect, but it was tweeted/posted). I do not understand why the devs think it is better to keep things all separated, but whatever... they keep giving us different currencies, too.
Also, will Vigilantes and Rogues be able to trade with regular Heroes and Villains? If so, they might create a thriving market of Vigilantes dealing loot easier obtained Blue side to the Villains (and Rogues).
So many questions because of that one statement. I don't know why the devs insist on keeping the market separate once side switching is in play. -
