Sure, and the standalone required the extra ATs, which we aren't getting with GR. I don't see how it follows that we only get 1 - 20 (which is a miniscule amount of content in the grand scheme of things) and 50+ content (which we should have had a while ago).

Quote:While technically true, this is bull **** if it's the excuse they're using to shortchange us on GR content.CoV was not an expansion, it was an "expanshalone". You could add CoV to your CoH account, but you could also have it stand alone as its own game (and only have access to CoV zones and ATs). Going Rogue is strictly an expansion; you must have CoH/V in order to make any use out of a GR code. GR is not a full game, unlike CoV was.

Quote:How much sense would it make to choose at side at 20 and then be banished to the Rogue Isles or Paragon City from 20 to 50? They have only talked specifically about the new "1 to 20 experience" but it's reasonable to assume there is a new path to 50 in Praetoria (or 40, if they save the 40-50 zone until Issue 18). The only previous expansion we've had (CoV) had a full 1 to 40 experience on launch. My assumption would be that the next expansion would have at least as much content... more, in fact, because CoV had 5 whole new ATs and lots of new sets, as opposed to GR's two new sets and possibly no ATs.From what I've read so far, there'll be level 50 content in Praetoria (possibly 45-50 or even 40-50), but for character starting in Praetoria at level 1, it seems you're forced to pick Loyalist or Resistance (determining Villain or Hero) by level 20. Of course, if the choice is made at 20, then the lowbie Praetoria content may extend up to 25 or 30, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Quote:I think this is an extreme minority position. Most people expect infinite progress in MMOs. UO, EQ, WoW, EQ2... games with longevity tend to always be adding content and increasing the level cap. CoX has bucked that trend, but it has cost them subscribers in the long run. I know people who left because there was no chance of advancement beyond lvl 50. If Paragon offers some new way to advance "finished" characters, they may retain more subscribers as well as add new ones.At level 50 currently, the game pretty much ends. You can stick around and play, and you can keep on collecting Inventions if you really wanted to, but the character is done. There aren't any more levels, there aren't any more levels by a different name, there aren't any more levels by another different name, and there aren't any more levels presented in such a way that it's not clear that they're just more levels. And there aren't any more levels, either. I'm not half-way towards getting that next major upgrade that has three more major upgrades behind it. I'm done. And I like being done, because I have around 30 other characters waiting in line.

You make a persuasive argument. As long as players can still solo and get the same uber end-game rewards, then I don't have an issue with UES (or whatever method the devs employ to give us more powah).
-
But power to what end? If it's to go back to the normal content and kick butt more easily, fine... but if the power becomes a requirement for doing new and end game content, then CoX will become just like every other High End Raid type game. No thank you!

Quote:We already have custom difficulty settings which mitigates the problem somewhat. And i'm not meaning this to be a complant. I like progresson. I like have goals to strive for. I'm looking forward too it... I'm just saying, i don't think the dev's can keep both camps happy in this respect, and wonder how they are going to handle it...
Ideally, the way the devs do this is by adding more creative gameplay that rewards skill more than uber builds. We'll see what Posi comes up with in his Secret Lab. I'm optimistic he can pull it off. -
Quote:What Chad said, and I'll go further and say any existing lvl 50 will be able to do the End Game content. You'll still be able to do any of the existing content the same way you always could.
This isn't WoW. Players don't need to "gear up" every time a new TF or zone comes out. End Game content just means interesting stuff for lvl 50s to do, it doesn't mean "ZOMG unless ur purpled out you can't even try End Game N00b Mish #1". -
Quote:I did reply to you, but I guess I wasn't really addressing your question.I'm not sure if your talking to me or others, but, I'm not really "complaning" about the end game, as much as I'm thinking... "oh crap... I've got 35 different guys I'd like to run through it... HOLY CRAP, I got 35 to "finish"!?!!?
I'll just say these are the kind of problems it's nice to have. -
You know you don't have to do End Game content, right?
There's no way I'll even run half of my 50s through End Game stuff, but I look forward to the opportunity to revisit my favorite characters and play in some type of new, challenging content that I haven't done before.
End Game content is an unqualified good. -
Quote:Absolutely untrue. I've brought this up before, but the cat was let out of the bag exactly one day early. There is ample evidence for this, but one piece I found compelling is the naming convention for the folder used to house the graphics (http://www.newzyouwant.com/NCsoft/20...es/header4.jpg, for example). 20090512... clear as crystal. The emails went out on 5/11/2009. One day early. We, that's us, the player base, the people typing on these forums, were not supposed to know about Going Rogue until Fourth Quarter 2009, with the big reveal probably having been planned for HeroCon 2009.

I'm certainly not expecting a true end game... I'm just looking for an excuse to dust off some 50s and play. I don't think we've had that... ever, really.

Gratz to WW and GF on the promotions, but one thing worries me: it sounds like Posi's End Game project will come out after GR is released. I thought GR was suposed to have some end game elements...

Quote:That's the fifth and sixth definitions, though. Most people would use the word for an anniversary celebration or any other kind of festivity, if they weren't talking about Cherries Jubilee.I always thought of Jubilee as a southern/hick word for a party. (Which, honestly, matches the character's power to produce fireworks...)
I looked it up just now, and apparently the word actually means a year for rest occurring every 50 years (from the Old Testament), or a holy year when you're supposed to make a pilgrimage to Rome (Roman Catholicism).
Jubilee works because she can create firework-like effects, which is something you might see at a Jubilee... the word isn't that obscure. -

w00t! I'm finally at the target level!

w00t! HBD, DC!
So what is it? 65? 66? -

No argument there, but we don't win on Sanchez's arm... we win with good D and the run. Should be a fun matchup!

I finally logged in to the STO Beta and rolled my first toon. I'd love it if the game were just space combat... running around on the ground and onboard ships with phasers that feel less effective than 9mm pistols isn't doing it for me.
