Voo, I have a different interpretation of the comment regarding Faultline. I think the main thrust of the argument was that in other MMOs, the environment changes as you level up, giving you a sense of accomplishment as well as keeping things fresh. I don't think the point was to eschew instanced content in favor of zone content; I think the point was that revamped Faultline is pretty cool looking, and wouldn't it be great to have the same attention to detail and effort put in to instance maps.
There are so many things that could be done with maps to make the game more interesting. The suggestion in the article of a steam-powered Nemesis base is a great idea... how come we don't have that in the game already? I would love to see more varied environments, more environmental gimmicks (traps, etc.), more faction specific tilesets... just more stuff! GR is a perfect excuse to add this to the game.
CoX will always be a heavily instanced game; that's a large part of its appeal. In an interview about CO Jack said that CoX was "too" instanced, but all I think he meant by that was that if you're going to go that route, you better have a metric ****-ton of maps to start with, because before too long someone like DC will come around and memorizes everything. Not to mention the average player who will get burned out on the monotony before long. -
Quote:That article is obvious, yet spot on. War Witch should give it a read when making plans for GR and beyond.Interesting article from Massively

This was my operating assumption since GR was announced. Recently, I have begun to question this assumption. I hope you (and my naive, earlier self) are right.

I wasn't clear. I didn't mean regular Closed Beta that lots of people will have access to because of Loyalty Incentives and whatnot, I made Super Secret Friends & Family Beta. I hope that that at least has started by now.

Quote:Ironically enough, the idea that "content is the focus" after GR is what initially sent me into a doom spiral. It implies that there isn't much content in GR, and that it's really about the side-switching and setting up a new City that will one day have content in it...MG, I made a joke. And used a smilie. That's what GG does all the time, so that post should have worked.
Right now, the Devs should listen to Perfect Pain and release some information. For all we know the GR closed Beta has already started. -
Content is good. Content being released over a year from when we last got content (not including GR) is Bad™.

Scootz... the current consensus seems to be that the Issue that will correspond to GR will be 17. Initially I thought it was going to be 18, but I was shot down.
I think the "free" part of I17 will be the new power sets, and maybe some Primal Earth content that ties into the GR story. Access to Praetoria (and thus side-switching) will be limited to those who buy the box.
In summation: no new content for a year, and we're all dhoomed. -

Seriously, though... I'll be happy to be surprised by some news (whenever we get it) indicating that GR has CoV-like levels of content... it's just looking less and less likely.
Also, look around! Long time players are burning out... if Scooter's right and we won't see GR go live until 9/2010, then I predict a significant dip in the player population that won't reverse itself until late 2010. -
Quote:That would be a full year without an Issue. That being said. beta doesn't start until late Q1 which according to them could be as late as mid April, two and half months away. I seriously doubt that beta will take less then 3 months. My prediction GR won't hit the shelves until September. I am not holding my breath this.
Man, I thought I was the Doomer in this thread... you guys put me to shame. -

I don't think Vigilantes/Rogues will get their own SG... Vs will go with Heroes and Rs will get with Villains.
The same goes for PvP... Vigilantes are Heroes and Rogues will be Villains.
This is speculation on my part, but as cool as actually creating a third side would be, I don't think the Devs will do it. -

First Voo, now Kong... these truly are the End Times.

Honestly? I'll say it's because the game has had a casual friendly focus for so long. In the beginning we didn't have PVP or phat lewtz, so people played the game because they wanted to play a fast-paced, fun, superhero game with their friends.
Five years down the road, they've added PvP, a little bit of lewt, and some "elite" content, but the casual feel of the game remains, and I think that discourages the sort of people who make other games so unpleasant. -
