To be fair, MoG is a Scrapper/Stalker power, so we should compare it to similar sets, not gimp Defender sets like Force Fields.

    [/ QUOTE ]
40% def with close to 5% more from maneuvers is ... not particularly gimp under def scaling. And that's a big chunk of my point; some sets perform decently while having poor / mediocre 9th (and, in the case of FF, 7th, 8th, and 9th) tier powers.

As for my post comparing MoG to force bubble, I believe the comparison was valid since the guy I was replying to said ... "defensive sets" ... and FF is all bout the def. Had he said "melee sets," well, that'd be different.

But I notice you didn't exactly jump on my comparison to RotP

    [/ QUOTE ]

As someone stated before, when I heard "Defensive" I didn't think "Defense", I thought Scrapper/Stalker/Brute secondaries and Tank Primaries.

40% Defense comes from just 3 powers, however, so I feel safe in calling FF gimp. The number of useful powers in the set is apalling, especially considering the recent mega-nerf to FF's toggle dropping abilities.

And yeah, a Tier 9 self rez is pretty crappy, but that only makes MoG the second worst Tier nine melee defense power.

Just compare MoG to other Tier 9 defensive powers!

    I think it sucks.

Yup, some tier 9s are good. And some are bad.

Just fix MoG while you're at it... I'm sure the consolidated MoG thread is a good place to start.

lol harder setup, any team you take in there its hard with, there is not an easy way of doing it... but thanks for the info.. now run back to your server pls.. #

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't think this is strictly true. You can't tell me a team of Dominators would have as easy a time as a team of Corruptors.

More debuff powers (-regen especially) make the SF easier. This is a truism, especially with the insane 1100% regen.

Gratz to anyone who did it Old Skool. It will be much easier when the new patch goes live.

Yes. It's coming. Safeguard missions. Being worked on right now (outside my office, in fact).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um. 'Safeguard'? As in..A giant escort mission? *random conclusion-leaping commences*

    [/ QUOTE ]

My guess is: big Mayhem map... bad guys are all over the place trying to do bad stuff, you try to stop them. If you stop enough baddies, they call for reinforcements! Obviously side quests (re-capture the Villain, etc. ) will increase your time limit.

    Something like that...

So does the new box expansion mean the end of free issues? Or will there continue to be free issues between the boxes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I assume things will continue as normal, with free Issues coming out regularly, and the occasional Retail CoX-Box (I wonder if anyone at Cryptic is beginning to regret the "City of" name ).
  8. [ QUOTE ]
And it cracks me up reading how some of the posters act like they know what's up with the EATs. Corrallax will be released in I-9, Avilians will be good guys, blah blah blah. It's speculation only.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course I was speculating. No one has any idea what the new EATs will be. However, I based my "I9" answer on this paragraph from Poz:

    [ QUOTE ]
Beyond that, we are looking to release another Issue building up the story towards our next retail box, due in 2007. This will include going back and revamping some of the zones from City of Heroes, using everything we've learned from making City of Villains and Issue 7, plus a bunch of other cool stuff including new powersets and an epic archetype. Of course for the retail box we will be creating all-new zones and content based on the results of the forum poll we posted last month. The retail box will be an expansion to both City of Heroes and City of Villains.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The previous two paragraphs dealt with Issues 7 and 8, so I assume "another Issue, building up the story" would be I9. I9 is described as a revamp of CoH content, along with new powersets and a new EAT. The only EATs they have talked about are the ones I mentioned. Do we know which EATs will be heroic or villainous? No. We do know that Villains can't make Kheldians, and there has been no word that they will be able to once they can reach 50. So, I guessed Coralax as the next EAT for villains, because they seem to be evil and we see them a lot in CoV.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Happy cheers for the second anniversary and hope Avians...not avilans :P.... are a faster flier than normal...the others.... cross fingers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty sure States said Avilans. This was from the highlights of a Stractics chat back in early 2005:

    [ QUOTE ]
Two upcoming archetypes that had been mentioned previously were given slightly more hints. "Coralax - think underwater - Avilan - think wings"

Cool cant wait for those!! Trying to save my slots for them hehe. Whats been the thought as to when they will be available? I8 than?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sounds like I9.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought that sounded more like "Brand new" ones all together for both CoV/CoH....not including the first Epic AT for CoV

    [/ QUOTE ]

I doubt they will release more than one Epic AT at a time. I'm guessing we'll see Coralax in I9 (since we pretty much know what they are, and the art is already done), and then maybe a CoH/CoV Epic for the expansion.

  12. [ QUOTE ]
WOOT!! So any idea what the epic ATs will be for CoV?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, the Epic ATs that have been alluded to are:

    Incarnate
    Avilan
    Coralax
    Blood of the Black Stream

Coralax and Blood both sound like they would be CoV Epic ATs, while Incarnate (what Statesman and Recluse are) might be both, and Avilans (winged people) sounds like good guys.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Gah, and I hope I just misread it, but does that mean we only have I7 and I8 to look forward to this year?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, before the retail box we'll get I7, I8, and I9. Since the box will be released in 2007, I9 could come out early that year... but it might also come out in 2006.

    Gratz on the ding, Poz!

All of this stuff sounds really exciting... I'm going to go out on a limb and say we're heading for a Space type expansion, almost certainly involving the Rikti Homeworld.

The problem is that I think side-changing will be abusable and seriously break things....

    [/ QUOTE ]

in what way? I have a hard time thinking up ways to break the game this way....

    [/ QUOTE ]

As was mentioned earlier, it's an issue with ATs. Why *ever* make a Dominator or Corruptor when you can just have an evil Controller or Defender? Why *ever* make a Tank when you can have a goody-goody Brute?

The ATs were balanced by "side"... when you can cross the line at will, some ATs will just get less love and play, in general.

Imagine the PvP implications! A team of 5 Brutes and 3 Empaths? A team of Controllers and Stalkers? There are a lot of things that will come out of this change, and I'm pretty sure no one has considered all of the ramifications.

I'm not even against this change, per se, but it raises a lot of issues that need to be carefully thought out by the devs.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
So does this basically mean that yes, heroes and villains will be able to change sides?

My Dominator isn't looking forward to being even less wanted on teams due to the sudden availability of Controllers at whatever level range. I love Controllers, but please, the Dominator's role so far would be completely replaced by a controller, and then some.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How do you think the Corruptors will feel when an honest-to-goodness healzorz goes bad?

I think if switching sides ends up causing too many problems they may ditch the idea, but it's firmly on the drawing board, and a lot of players want it.
  17. I'd be shocked if it was in Issue #7. I'm almost positive it's not.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Something I'm wondering though is why they don't utilize the cops or Longbow more often then they do. It'd go a long way to feeling more villainous if, instead of kidnapping some idiot from the Mooks for the 8th time, you were smacking around the cops to get to them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And aren't the cops on Recluse's payroll? That's a valid reason right there to not have them in the early missions.

Also, don't forget about the countless Rent-A-Cops you mow down in the heist missions!
  19. [ QUOTE ]
So, does this mean you're doing the same thing to the Hollows and Striga? Being forced to go there is just as not fun as being forced into any other zone you have no interest in going to. If we now have a real choice about entering Warburg can we please have the same consideration for the Hollows and Striga?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not sure I understand this. What if I don't like KR... I can still get a contact there... how would they know I don't like KR? The Hollows, Striga, and now Croatoa are setpiece zones that players should be exposed to; you *always* had the option to not take missions from the contact once you got there.

PvP is different: some people feel very strongly about it, and while I think it's enough that contacts in PvP zones are in "safe" areas, some people don't even want to go there.

Bottom line is if to this point heroes all looked like the Superman, Shazzam and the Flash a lot more people would feel “Villainous” when playing CoV with big ol’ devil horns and monstorous legs.

Bottom line is if the heroes all looked like Superman, Shazam, and the Flash, a lot fewer people would be playing City of Heroes.

Exactly. I want heroes to look like Midnighter, Jenny Sparks, The Engineer, The Carrier and Swift. Unpossible!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wait, you want your Hero to look like a 60 mile long interdimensional space ship?! I don't think the extra options are going to help you. Did you mean to say The Doctor?

My 2 cents? More options are good, but it's also nice to be able to tell the good from the bad at a glance. Yes, there are "evil looking" heroes in the literature, but if you open the floodgates, you might as well change the name of the game to City of Skull-Headed Demons (Be They Heroes OR Villains).

Incidently, I think you could do all of The Authority under the current CoH costume options.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What about the chick with the wings?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You got me there; Swift is currently impossible, but if they add the Avilan Epic AT then you could do it. And note you would not need CoV options... her oufits are pretty simple.

  22. Ok, I know this thread is supposed to be about the Mancusan bug, but since others have felt free to go off on wild tangents I'll take this opportunity to vent about my pet peeve.

Notice how the OP says "Nice rounded team?" Oh, well of *course* it's a nice team, it has a */Polarity Soma!

Soma is my favorite camp, and I have like 4 different toons, but you will *never* see me take the Polarity secondary Matrix. So many players out there come from other games where a Polarity type character is an absolute requirement. I can't tell you how many "r u p01?" /tells I've gotten. It makes me sick! Everyone thinks that Clade Reconstruction is the only way to protect the team... I've tried to tell them that it's just a small part of what Somas do, but no one wants to hear it! Hell, 3 whole Matrices (Plasmophage, Golom, and Truth) don't even have access to Autosomal Clustering!

Seriously, the other sets can do a much better job of Clade Drift mitigation if anyone would give them a chance. Why reconstruct when you get prevent the Drift in the first place?

Well, I just wanted to get that off my chest. If anyone wants to team, my main is a Coherence/Plasmophage Soma on the Gurdnik server. What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment!
  23. Blood of the Black Stream reminds me too much of The Black Goat with a Thousand Young from Lovecrafian lore. I'm thinking it's some kind of Cthulhoid thing.
