Is it possible that you actually have to be damaged by a villian to get the damage bonus, rather then by falling? The defiance bar will be a full, but the bar could just be a reflection of your low hps and not the actual damage boost.

The damage boost could be coded somewhat similar to Fury, where you have to constantly be attacked or make an attack to raise it.

In short, you have to recieve a massive damage strike droping you to near death in X amount of time to get the damage boost, rather then actually being at X of health to get Y amount damage boost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Nope.

The "Fun with Defiance" bit I reference - took my 50 elec/elec to Faultline. Jumped from tall building into canyon. Fired at COT who were staring at the crazy hero. 5000-some pts of damage done.

Just firing alone was... eh, don't remember the number, but significantly less. And the only thing that damaged me there was the ground.

again, the ending came too soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yeah... kinda felt that too.

    But still enjoyed it.

    that could be very anime-ish,

    [/ QUOTE ]

I misread this as "amish". Insomnia sucks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes! More Amish heroes! That's what we need!

I enjoyed the video and too wonder about the powers featured. MA was obvious, but were we getting a preview of forthcoming powersets? Pistol scrappers and shapeshifting (the "melting" woman)? Why did they all turn on each other at the end? Very cool video but so many questions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read the page that was referred to... Rose's mentor thought she'd been attacked, so went to attack... er, whatserface... so HER mentor jumped in to defend her.

Yeah, in the middle of a fight.

    Great timing.
  7. *pushes _Awry_ to the Cake or Death thread*

No! You dont' want to look in here...
  8. I've also got to argue against calling single and multi target immbos useless. Yes, Dom's are more melee-ish than Trollers - but sometimes you don't want to deal with that meleer *right now* and being able to stick him/them in place helps.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Personally, I would like to welcome our new pod person overlords.

    [/ QUOTE ]

*looks at back of States' head. Sees Apple logo.*

    OMG.

    They're not pod people.

    They're iPod people.

I don't want to know where the USB cable goes....

(All the same, woohoo! for all the good news.)
  10. Just want to find something out (in a break in the action online...) and if I've missed someone asking....

Will this affect *current* missions? I've had Giovanni and another Chimaera on my 50 for a while now, and my PB never seems to be able to get a team for the Envoy... I'd LOVE to be able to just wait a little longer and progress past them after a good fight.
  11. gah, yeah, didn't notice that... and too late to edit now :P

Didn't recall them being cone attacks - then again, everyone's usually in a mob around a tentacle.
  12. Memphis_Bill

    cape

The longest part about the cape mission is all the friggin' running you do first. You get to talk to three people - the last one of which is WAY out in a corner of IP.

The mission itself? Is one I prefer to solo. Duo at best. And if you have no mez protection - pick up a couple breakfrees. That's really about all you need.

On the villain side - not so bad, depending on which hero you get to fight. Had to deal with that *#$&# flying elec/elec with my Brute. Annoying...
  13. Lately, it seems, more people have gotten interested in Lusca again. It may be the influx of SWG folks, combined with interest in COV and, of course, the holidays - but Lusca's back to actually having people fight her again.

Problem is, I'm seeing people fight her with no plan of attack - therefore racking up a lot of debt. Lusca should be (reasonably) easy XP. So, in the interest of helping out - a quick guide to the Family Size Sushi in Independance Port.

    What is Lusca?
Lusca is a giant octopus that spawns in Independance Port. It's a giant monster (technically, nine, I suppose.) You can't miss it. It most often seems to spawn across the south edge of the zone, by the Brickstown entrance and west. Go see Vidiotmaps.com's Independance Port map for spawn points.

Lusca's a somewhat unique giant monster. It's one of the few that anyone participating gets a badge for. (By participating, either do damage or be on a team that does.) It's not the team that does the MOST damage, just a participating team.

She's also unique in that, as mentioned above, she's more like nine seperate monsters (eight tentacles and the head.)

Being a giant monster, being "higher level" doesn't help you. Conversely, being "too low" doesn't make you useless. The damage will scale - and she will damage you.

Why would I want to attack it?
    Well, a few reasons.
    1. Novelty. Hey, it's a giant monster. Why not?
    2. XP. Each tentacle gives XP, as does the head. Usually a fairly decent chunk of change too. And
    3. The Devilfish badge. Doesn't (as I recall) count toward any accolades, but it's a [i[badge,[/i] and we all like badges, right? (Ooh, shiny.)

Wow, she's big. How many people do we need?
A single team of 8 - if it's a decent team - can do this carefully. Typically, though, I see at least 1 1/2 to 2 full teams. If nothing else, it makes the tentacles go down faster, gives you more people to debuff/buff/do some damage mitigation. It's a party. Bring wasabi.

    The Octopus Strikes!
Each tentacle packs a pretty good wallop. On top of that, Lusca's head has an ink attack which does some damage over time and has a -fly component to it. And yes, like other ranged attacks, the ink will follow you on shore, in the air - if it werent' so annoying, it'd be funny. There's not much you can do about the ink. The tentacles, however, can be beaten with a little forethought.

    Your plan of attack
Lusca looks daunting when you first see her. A wall of tentacles around a giant head. If you have Flight - or swim carefully around - you'll notice something. There's usually one tentacle sitting somewhere all by its lonesome, away from the others.

Guess what. This is where you begin.

If you do what I've seen too many teams do lately - charge headlong into the wall of tentacles - you will die. Fast. If you hit the lone tentacle - it'll whap you, sure. But it'll be the only one. And it's much easier to counter the damage from one tentacle than all of them.

When one tentacle is defeated, Lusca will sink. Get out of the water, or away from where that was. She will resurface, but normally not in the same spot. Often she'll show up on the other side of a dock, or 100 yards or so away. She has, however, shown up in the same spot, or very close, with players within her "group" of tentacles. This leads to debt. So get out of the water for a moment.

This will also let you search for the next "lone" tentacle when she does surface. Rinse, repeat.

When she's down to four tentacles, I personally haven't seen them spread out. They've normally been in a row. Just work at one end and make your way down the line. Remember, you want as few tentacles able to attack you as possible.

Eventually - you're down to just the head. Go ahead, rush it. I've brawled it with my blasters and defenders just for the heck of it. Other than its ink, it really can't attack, and the ink doesn't come all that fast.

After that - congrats! It's down, and now all you have to do is endure sushi and calamari jokes for the next minute or so from the others who were there.

Is any AT "better" at this than the others?
Nope. You want, after all, better than a full team, so you're going to have a mix of ATs. Damage, aggro management, damage management, buffs, debuffs, and holds are all greatly appreciated. I've never seen a specific "mix" do better than any other.

Now go forth and kill Lusca. And remember, Khelds are squids, Lusca's an octopus.
  14. Hey, Lil_Miss... Slight change to rent.

You don't pay, they lock you out of the base. So you *can't* go for 3 mo. (for instance) without paying rent and still *get in.*

    How do I know this?

Over on Freedom, my "SG" is me and one other person, both with alt-itis. Well, we have one room. No IoP. No power-anything. As I'm running my poor emp trying to get the Firebase defenses down for the Shivan Shard, I see a blue message pop up - "Your supergroup's rent is late. You can now not enter the base." Eh, wha?

Grab the shard, get the shivan, and hot-foot it to the portal... Yep. "You cannot enter. Rent is due."

So nice of them to tell us this ahead of time, hmmmm? Checked for an update in the patch notes - nothing. Checked the manual - "You can visit your base, but all equipment (including defenses) is shut down until Upkeep is paid." (Page 85.)

i'm annoyed enough that, even though it's a pittance, I'm not paying. Just pretending we don't have a base at all.
  15. Feliney Assault stood there on the bridge, facing Timothy, the wind slowly tugging at her cape, the water lapping silently against the supports.

It didn't give her any comfort. She'd delivered the Crey woman's warning to him, her stomach sinking. At least she hadn't asked her to silence him... yet.

Timothy simply nodded, agreeing to stay out of Crey's business. Then he asked her the question she'd been asking herself since being sent here.

"How can you work for them?"

She stood there, facing away. "You're partially right. I am - a villain. And taking these jobs for the money, not to mention working my way up. Arachnos busted me and how many others out of the Zig, and told me to prove I was worth it."

She looked out over the water. "I've seen the bodies of the ones that failed - but that's life here. I put several down myself. I can't say I don't have blood on my hands."

Turning, she forced herself to look at Timothy. "But - you called me a friend. You're only the second person to do that. The first - well, she busted me out of the lab where they - they changed me. Torture in the name of science, the name of a better soldier, a better weapon. I don't know where she is now - alive, dead. I don't know if I'll have to fight her sometime in the future or not."

She turned once more, watching the sun set over the water. "I figured if you had to be told, I'd rather do it than some Crey goon squad. I figured you'd listen to me, hear me out, and I wouldn't come back to hear it had been beaten into you."

Timothy stared for a moment. "So Feliney Assault: concerned?" He looked out on the water as well. "I didn't think villain: possible: to have compassion."

"Yeah, well, don't get any ideas." She leaned on the railing. "Look, kid - if I make it high enough, you won't be forgotten. Maybe it's the hard luck story making me a softy here, I don't know, but I'll try to look out for you. Maybe get'cha out of here. No promises, though - I might be named the next big threat and end up floating down the river tomorrow." She put out a paw. "So, we cool?"

Timothy took her paw and shook it. "Feliney Assault: still friend. Thank you."

"Yeah, well... I gotta jet and let the lady know. You should be in good shape. Take care'a you."

Timothy watched as she bounded off to finish her errand, then turned and walked away.
  16. Just working through an arc where I revisit a prior contact (timothy Raymond) to threaten him.... got me thinking, what do you *wish* you could say to them in-game?

Figured it'd fit here best, actually... and I don't mean things like "Get out of the way you stupid NPC or I'll shoot you instead!"

If you're out of Supergroup mode, Bling isn't really much of an accomplishment, it's an inevitability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But just barely. I got Bling at level 30 (no super group), just on the verge of outleveling Doc Buzzsaw.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same here. Got it at about 29 3/4. Hit 30 during that mish. Hit buzzsaw right away.

(FWIW, I liked the missions from the Slot Machine. Just a little weirdness to keep things going. But the hunt... oy.)
  18. [ QUOTE ]

    Absorb Pain
Another single target heal. This power heals a ton! Only bad thing about it is it leaves you with little health and an inability to recover health for a short period of time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, no. It doesn't make that big of a hit on your health - it's not a 1:1 exchange of hitpoints (or even 1:2.)

HOWEVER, yes, it is risky to use on occasion. I have AP'd myself to death when the team's gotten hit with unexpected aggro (pets or some such aggroing another group, plus a patrol showing up.) I've hit it, then gotten hit with an attack from an AV leaving me at a sliver of life for - believe it's 30 seconds.

Use it, but not as a primary heal. I tend to think of it as an "Oh *censored!*" heal, if someone's taken a good bit of damage suddenly in that moment where HO isn't up.

    [ QUOTE ]

    Zapp
Single target blast. This is the snipe of Electricity blasting. Long-range attack, heavy damage, moderate recharge time. Very accurate long-range attack. Good for pulling enemies to your group without aggro'ing the whole mob. Optional power to have. I have it and recommend three slotting it with Damage enhancers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe it's the Blaster in me (my 50's an elec/elec blaster,) but bypassing a snipe? Just to have it handy soloing, and in those oddball moments where nobody else *has* one - I always take the snipe. Don't forget the Acc.
    [ QUOTE ]

    Tesla Cage
Single target hold. This power will hold an enemy inside a fence of electricity. Decent power to have. Drains little endurance, does very minor damage, moderate recharge time, and holds affected foe for a short period. Optional power. I don't have it but if taken I would recommend four slotting it with one Accuracy and three Hold Durations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, blaster side - acc, definitely. More than one. Same with hold duration. Get that Sorc to stay put, not buff, not heal.

    [ QUOTE ]

    Voltaic Sentinel
The "Pet" of electricity. A little ball of electricity that follows you around until it does ten blasts then fades away. This power when taken by a defender is the closest power to actually doing Blaster damage. Like most pets, however, it is uncontrollable and will shoot at anything within range. Drawing aggro to the caster and not the pet. Nice to have around when you happen to get held. The pet will blast away while you wait to get free, sometimes killing the enemy in the process. Optional power. If taken four slot it with one Accuracy and three damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll have to look again, I could swear it was time-based, not number-of-blast based.
  19. Name: Cult of Voidbane
    Website: Cult of Voidbane
    Leaders: Voidbane, Gregor Malkov
Contact: Same, though any member can recruit. In game email or a /tell preferred.

    About the group:

"We have told you of the threat the Nictus posed our people. They devoured us, feeding on us, weakening us. Now, look at that Void Hunter mercenary. Is he truly human any more? They seek to devour you as well! They will enslave Humanity as they did their own people. They are a threat to the people of Earth as well as to the Kheldians. We will stop them."

It's best to call this an RP-Light group. Very new, and Kheldian-oriented - though we welcome any archetype. This is your fight as well as ours.

We hunt the hunters. Some of our members have been called "Suicide squids" by our Human allies - let them mock. We may appear reckless, charging the Void mercenaries and Quantum array-wielding humans, but if we hit them fast, hit them hard, the only thing they'll hit is the ground.

"I do not ask you to sacrifice your lives needlessly. I do not ask you to sacrifice them at all. Use your own best judgement when facing the hunters - throwing your life away helps nobody. But if you fall - take as many of them wth you as you can." - Voidbane

We have several groups we actually focus on. Voids, Nictus, Galaxy troops and Quantum-wielding villains are our priority, yes - we want to scourge them from the galaxy. Yet others feed on humanity as the Nictus fed on us - the Council, perverting humans into Vampyri and War Wolves. The Circle of Thorns, stealing the bodies of others for themselves. The Banished Pantheon, sacrificing that which does not belong to them. And the Vahlizok.

We have no uniform requirements, that's purely optional (though a shot of Voidbane herself is on the site.) We have no level requirements. And if you're over 25, playing in SG mode is purely up to you (it is below, as well, but we really don't want to hurt someone's ability to improve themselves by robbing them of INF.)

We have no PVP plans at the moment - that we'll decide on as the group grows.

Our main goal is to enjoy the game, while feeding the mercenaries back to the Void tha spawned them.

You're drivin' me nuts up there! We're gonna start calling you Pogotron!

    [/ QUOTE ]

"He can't go to the bathroom without taking out a city block."

Now tell me, wouldn't YOU Be bobbing?
  21. Heh. Literally first thing after logging back in:
One wolf spider to another in one of the Arachnos forts (Sharkshead) - "Frankly I think we should fill it and make a large swimming pool."

War_Witch and crew owe me one monitor cleaning.
  22. Just hit one:
Cage consortium guard: "I don't get the reference. I hate donuts."

    Edit:

    And another -
Rocketman: "I hate it when people tell me to 'cool my jets.' "
