All of the bugs or QoL issues that have been lingering for what seems like forever because the programmers were too busy fixing the major bugs.
[/ QUOTE ]
if that were only the case. no, they were too busy making sure villains and heroes couldn't get certain badges and breaking other issues in the game. we still have no IoP.

One of these days, Stasis_ will say something positive.
Just then, the world will end. I predict his positive statement will be sometime in 2012... -

I think it would be cool if in the neer future we had a storyline where Statesman turned evil, like Darth Vader.. and we get a TF/SF type of thing where we Defeat him and his evil plans, once and for all..

BTW, to those hating on Lallendos, I don't think you're being fair.
[/ QUOTE ]
No more or less fair than he was in his assessment of what qualifies as new content.
If he had just come in and said, I want new zones, and you haven't given me any. That could have floated. Instead he's trying to leverage a very technical definition of new zone into no new content AT ALL.
So tell me what's more unfair?
[/ QUOTE ]
What the fuzzy one said.
Hell, I can make the argument, *technically,* that the RWZ is a new zone. I had a character in the RCS who was *still there* ('til a week ago, when I decided to run around... ok, I was out of breakfrees...) while others were in the RCS. Two unique locations, completely different in content and in many cases topography.
If he *chooses* not to SK, *chooses* to go out of his way to ignore new content, fine. But present it as his choice, not "ZOMG we've gotten nothing new, CO* is doomed, it's all PVP and loot, I hates it, filthy hobbitses!" -

Ex Libris, is Manticore coming too? (Not sure if he's still even working on CoH, to be honest, since he's shy.) And, if not, who's in charge of CoH's lore nowadays?
[/ QUOTE ]
Manticore as in the person behind the sig Sean Fish, left COH and Cryptic after COV launch...ironically he works for NCsoft in Austin on some other project, but I heard rumors that he and Positron have been discussing the COH/COV Bible lately.
The person in charge of COH's lore is Hero One, and speaking of shy... I'm still trying to get this guy to take a step out and introduce himself.
If you have been following the story arcs for Ouroboros this is our guy, his name is Joe Morrissey, and speaking of creative efforts, this guy is expecting his first arrival, un-known gender at this time sometime this week.
We'll get him to pop on the boards and say hello soon.

Memphis:
Faultline is not a 40+ zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most players are not 40+ players. Yet it's using a *completely empty* zone, bringing the story forward, creating four new story arcs.
[ QUOTE ]
Where are the new villain groups.
[/ QUOTE ]
Vanguard! Yes, you do fight them. Maybe you've noticed (probably not, since you don't seem to be looking) Arachnos troops in missions.... And if you'd *deign* to give villainside a try, there's a whole slew of enemies, from Longbow and Wyvern, Goldbrickers, new Freakshow (including female Meat Doctors,) Coralax, Slag Golems, and Wailers... off the top of my head.
[ QUOTE ]
RWZ is not a new zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
You haven't been in there, apparently. Gee, crucify Cryptic for actually USING what was, in essence, a big empty space to *move the story forward.*
Do you go to an artist and tell them their painting isn't a new painting because they used an existing canvas that had a splotch of paint in the corner? That's what you're doing here.
Rikti Crash Site:
Contents: A few mobs.
Rikti War Zone:
Contents:
Four arcs that push the COH story forward from where it's been for *years.*
One repeatable contact.
A raid.
Interaction (TEAMING) with the other side.
.... yeah, sounds EXACTLY the same to me. You haven't bothered *looking,* it sounds like, only whining and crying they didn't make a brand new zone to add to all these *empty* ones they've had for years.
I started in I3. Faultline, at most, I saw two other people in, once. RCS? One, maybe. And those were rare.
Yeah, they should *really* have left them alone and created "new" zones. Get over it.
[ QUOTE ]
We were told that this game would never see the loot focus that other MMOs have. Explain to me how the market is not directly representing true loot being in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do you need to do *anything* with IOs or the market to play the game?
No?
That makes it a side issue. Just like PVP, which you can go through the *entire* game and ignore. Not a focus. You don't NEED a Devestation set to beat the highest level mobs, you don't NEED a Numina's set to be able to run your /regen or empathy/ character. It's a *side issue,* not a focus.
[ QUOTE ]
Never mind, don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because you don't want to hear it.
[ QUOTE ]
The game has changed in my opinion. Changed in nothing resembling a good way. And yes, the last 6 or 7 issues HAVE focused on PVP/loot/raids, or things relating to them in a very large degree. I am glad for Dual blades, and this willpower set. Cusomization of powers is nice. With a 4 month lag time, some new arcs would've been nicer, if done with new villain groups.
[/ QUOTE ]
You haven't been seeing things because you don't *want* to see things. Six or seven issues? Two years. Why have you, then, *wasted* $360 (two years at $15/month) on something you don't like? -
[ QUOTE ]
I have been waiting on that "pony" for, oh like 6 or 7 issues.
[/ QUOTE ]
Complete and utter bull.
New zones:
Croatoa
Faultline (hmm, empty, now has content... )
Rikti War zone (again - and GEE, MORE TO DO THAN A RAID. Or have you BOTHERED to go in and look at the arcs before crying and moaning?)
Newspaper missions, just for something different.
And coming up, if you 've skipped the other new stuff because you outlevelled it, I11, with multiple new arcs and *flashback.*
Yeah. Sounds like all PVP, raiding, and loot to me. </sarcasm>
[ QUOTE ]
I realize that lots of people like PVP, and find that as their "new content", still more love to play the game pre- 40, ad infinitum, on numerous alts. I am a member of the core target audience CoH was marketed to at release. Unfortunately for me, I grow attached to my characters, and don't want a stable of 50s with 100 hours on then. I want to spend 400+ on each character.
[/ QUOTE ]
... which is barely any time. All of my 50s are over 400 hours, some over 500-600.
[ QUOTE ]
The PVE player in the post 40 game that is not interested in loot has been largely neglected for well over a year.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, BS. But you want to ignore story arcs, apparently, because ZOMG they didnt' make ANOTHER WHOLE NEW ZONE for it, leaving completely EMPTY zones alone.
[ QUOTE ]
the 40+ game is now seemingly gearing up to be loot, raiding, and PVP. I'm sorry that I cannot be optimistic about this trend. I just can't be happy about this game becoming everything it wasn't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, BS.
Raids?
- The Hamidon had become snorefests, unless someone went in to ruin everyone else's time. So they revamped it, and gave the villains a version of it.
- The Rikti crash ship *has a purpose* in the story of the zone (for someone who's so focused on "new," you sure like to IGNORE that.)
And... hmm... that seems to be IT for raids.
What else can 50s do?
- PVP, sure.
- Statesman/Lord Recluse task forces.
- FOUR arcs (which you CONTINUALLY ignore) in the RWZ.
- Flashback with I11, for missed or favourite arcs.
- And new arcs coming in I11 as well.
Last six or seven issues? They've had to get COV out, and get it up to par with COH (issues six and seven,) move some of the tech over to COH (issue 8) - and they still fit in new "stuff." Yes, they put in inventions - which is completely irrelevant to the game, BUT still gives you ways to make your character different from others. I can give my Ice 'troller cold (and fire) resistance and mez resistance, if I choose, or make them more damage focused, or create a number of different builds... all of which are perfectly viable... as opposed to "Just slot 2/2/2 acc/hold/rech, 2/3 acc/dam.... " like everyone else.
No, it's not "all about level 50." Of course, the game *never has been.* It's about everything between 1 and 50. If you want to ignore all that, your loss. But that's where most people are - under 50 - and that's where the development time is going to go.
[ QUOTE ]
r, perhaps I am seeing something that isn't there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably the most correct thing you've said so far. -
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, oh wait, i'm sorry..... I admit it the REVAMPED rikti zone is an addition. sort of. With more of that new RAID content as a focal point.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, those four new arcs in there are a figment of my imagination? Not to mention the repeatable missions? Not to mentiont he arcs in Faultline?
Shame on them for actually making *completely unutilized* zones useful! They should jsut add more and more, ignoring the completely dead zones!
Get serious. It's not PVP stuff. Not even 1/3 PVP, no matter how much you want to *whine* about it. -
[ QUOTE ]
I keep seeing people laud the last year of development. I am not seeing it. Where are the new zones for the core user base of PVE people.
Where is the new content for people like myself that actually LIKE the last 10 levels of the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Faultline, with four arcs
RWZ, with four arcs and and the Rikti ship raid.
Haven't been paying attention?
[ QUOTE ]
I have seen the biggest changes to this game in the form of:
loot
pvp
raiding (Bases and Hamidon)
[/ QUOTE ]
Base raiding got jack.
PVP got jack. The last PVP content that was put in was... Issue 7, Recluse's Victory. Note we're at issue 10 now, with issue 11 coming up.
You sure you're looking at COH?
[ QUOTE ]
I loathe NCsoft. Every single game they touch focuses on loot and PVP. Guess where we've been focusing the past 6 issues.
[/ QUOTE ]
Puh-lease. Six issues? That puts us at issue 4. Three issues had *some* PVP content, and... gee... they were talking about it since before launch. "Focus," my butt.
[ QUOTE ]
The "old" CoH staff didn't keep repeating the same tired canned paragraphs and sentences. I LIKED the occasional "unprofessional" remark from States, et al.

1. Devs have lives, homes, and roots in their current communities so there is no guarentees they will move with the project.
2. If enough designers dont move this could mean sad news for the project.
3. The move for cryptic makes perfect sense from a buisness sense to me at least.
4. Depending on how corporate NCSoft makes things and who if any dont come to the new studio will determine if I stay subscribed.
I am patient and can wait but not forever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Read closer - the City of Franchise development team has moved with the game in majority (Minus Statesman).
[/ QUOTE ]
I will believe it when I see it. I have been with to many software companies that have been gobbled up both other. I am far to pesimistic and know better than believe a press release on its face value.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes but we already have the answers to these questions from Lighthouse and Ex Libris who are right there on site.
1. The new studio is 15 miles from the old one. What moving, angst etc?
2. They both posted a list of named devs who are going with the move. LH mentioned all but one of the current COX staff took the job offer.
3. of course it makes good sense.
4. NCSoft has already been in charge of COX development since the games alpha days. second all but one of the staff appear to have moved to the new office. I'm not seeing the negative side here.

Full Access to City of Heroes and City of Villains®
All players with City of Heroes retail* accounts will now have access to City of Villains, and all City of Villains retail* accounts will now have access to City of Heroes. Players that didn't previously have access to "the other side" will find that they do now. Just log in to check it out!

No, they (I can say we, here)
- got 12 slots for the past two years, if they had both at COV launch.
- Had access to SG bases from both sides.
- Already have had *at least* two months free, one for COH, one for COV - and if they added GVE, that's another month. Picked up the regular, then collectors edition? More free months.
Seriously. This griping about "We need compensation" is silly.

You know, I really don't understand this whole "free month" thing. The first month isn't free, it's $49.99. Without being able to play online that disc you bought is just an expensive coaster.
[/ QUOTE ]
And without the first month free, it's $64.99, if you paid 49.99. So?
Regardless, the people who are *finally* getting the other side opened up to them are not getting that free time. They still have to pay $15 that next month.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they didn't offer access, no one would buy the game. The game is useless without access. Still don't see how the first month is "free."

for the 20,000 prestige for the sg do they get that on the game. I know i am being dumb but i am not understanding the Sg membership thing?????
[/ QUOTE ]
... huh?
When an SG starts, for every member (through the first 15,) the SG is given 20k prestige. That happens automatically.
What NCSoft is going to do (as a one time gift) is give *every* SG 20k Prestige for *every* member in it - so if your SG has 50 members, the SG will get a total of 1000000 prestige (think of it as "SG Inf.")
Given that SG member limits are going up in I11... that could end up being a good chunk of change.
Obviously, if you're not in an SG, you won't see this. -

Exactly. I am really pissed about this, there needs to be some form of compensation for those who did buy both games. Like maybe a free month or2 or something because this is totally unfair to those who spent their hard earned money on both games.
[/ QUOTE ]
There doesn't need to be any kind of compensation. You got to play the game for the time period between when you bought it and when it became free. You aren't entitled to anything else.
You aren't entitled to the game always being gated by money. I really don't see the basis for this argument.

Too funny...
Why exactly does anyone owe you for your own decision making process?
So if you buy something in a store and it goes on sale two years later...They owe you a refund?
By that logic you were owed money long before now as CoH and Cov dropped in price from when they were first launched..
I guess if you knew the price would go down you wouldnt have spent your hard earned money on it...
Ok if you want compensation so badly give up any of the slots you used in upgrading any prestige or base building youve done since you purchased it...because you dont get it both ways..
[/ QUOTE ]
They warned us about the cost of the server transfer because of the possibility of server-less environment, this is no different than that. Since we got no warning something like this would happen we deserve some form of compensation for buying both games. All I am asking for is 1 free month. I dont think it is that hard to ask.
[/ QUOTE ]
You want a free month? You've gotten TWO. One for COH, one for COV. They're not giving everyone a free month when they open up access.
So you've already been "compensated." Even the people who got both games via GvE only got ONE month. The people who only bought one side? Just one month. Congrats. U R moar l33t.
Happy now? -
Something that keeps getting brought up that I think should be pointed out...
For all the "I bought both, I should get compensated" folks:
Yes, everybody will get access to both sides. You (and I, since I bought both games seperately as well, twice, Collectors Editions even) got to play both early. We got 12 slots early. We got guarantees SG base stuff early.
Not good enough? Still want an extra month?
*We already got it.*
Remember when you added the game to your account? Remember that free month?
They're not giving *everyone* a free month with this. Just access.
So we've already been compensated. In fact, we're ahead of the game. People who started with GVE only got ONE month free. We've gotten two - one for COH and one for COV.
You're welcome. -

Evey thing sounds great but kinda feel a little shammed on this part since I paid for both games and now players who just paid for one will get both. IMO they should do something to also thank those who purchased the two games. Some ideas should include more Char slots per server for those who own both games. Just my two cents but over all, Keep up the great work!!

Sounds harsh don't you think? If they want to reward all players fairly, then this is something they should take into consideration. And I am not just "whining" but also am offering an idea they can implement to make "all" of the players happy. In the end it's all about great costumer service and keeping your entire pool of consumers happy not just a select few.

THey *did* do something to those who bought both games.
Took the money and continued development.
Gave 12 slots for having both games for *how* long?
Who's the most recent person who bought *both* games *individually?* Hell, as I said, I've got collectors editions all over, multiple copies, and I sure as heck don't feel cheated, ripped off, or pissed. I MORE than got my money's worth.
I don't remember people whining this much when GVE (which gave both games cheaper than just one) came out. -

I bought COH a few years ago. COV when it came out. I don't expect anything. I wouldn't *argue* if they gave me something, but IMHO the only people who should get some sort of compensation are those who bought seperately, picking up the "other half" within, oh, the last month.
Hell, I bought the COH DVD Edition and COV CE. Bought the COV CE *twice,* in fact. I'm not pissed at all. I got to play *both,* with 12 slots per server, since COV's release. I think that's been pretty cool - and now there won't be any artificial barriers to things like SG entry for *anyone.* -

Lets be honest here, lets not pretend no one saw this coming, with Cryptic taking on Marvel Online, it did kind of create a conflict of interest for them, not impossible mind you, but a difficult position. Im sure thats one of the major drivers here.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think anyone's pretending otherwise. The COH/MUO conflict has been brought up several times. Fortunately, with this, the "When MUO comes out they'll abandon COH, MUO is COH II" stuff can stop.
[ QUOTE ]
For NcSofts part, the CoX is a successful sold franchise, for any MMO that isnt WoW. I can actually see them wanting to invest more in the game to expand the subscriber base.
Marketing wise, this might mean they may be more aggressive.
Looking in my crystal ball, Id predict,
-Some sort of NcSoft Station Pass, a sort of like the Sony Station Pass.
-Them continuing the free issues, but I would expect within a year or two, well see some sort of major paid expansion( that expands the game to the extent CoV did, rather than to the extent a standard issue does)
-If their willing to put more resources in it, take a look at some of things where City is lacking w/o taking away where it is strong, example is pvp.
Now actions for the community, It would be nice if we had some sort of far well party at pocket d, as a send off to Statesman and anyone else remaining at Cryptic.

Well, Issue 8, 10, 11 (or is it 10, 11, 12? Regardless, some of the free issue content) was supposed to be in a paid expansion, and they shelved that idea. I *don't* honestly expect another paid expansion personally...

My *gut* feeling is nothing, as GVE has been out for... what, a year? Longer? so seperate COH/COV purchases have long been ... eh, not sure what the word would be, but "evened out" or "melted together" works.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see them giving everyone the extra 4 character slots in this move. So we still have that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I kind of assumed they would, actually. It would make sense.
I mean, by now I'd *assume* most of the active playerbase has both COH and COV. GVE went on sale a while back, so anyone new would pretty much have that... with opening up access, opening up the last four slots for those that don't *have* them would be fair and bring them to parity. -

How much control do the current devs (namely Positron) have over CoH with the new management?

Well what has in essence occurred is the publishing team and development team have merged to form a new studio. We obviously have a reputation to maintain in the MMO world and we intend to be there step for step in the future.
