If you mean base "stuff," maybe. If you mean something more extensive... apparently the base code is on a hair trigger, the code is undocumented, and even breathing a little too hard near it makes it implode. And it didn't sound like they knew how to just revamp the thing (with someone who DOES know how to document code) without invalidating or destroying existing bases (and all the little quirks and such people use to make them now.)

  4. While the old drive is ~120Gb, the question is how much *data* do you have?

Personally... >.> I have an external NAS, two 750Gb HDs mirrored in it. Anything I want to keep gets copied there, and can be accessed by any computer (with the password) on the network.

Programs - you'll probably need to reinstall for them to actually work properly in most instances. For things like that password manager, see if it has an "export" function - it'll probably create a small file, copy that over, reinstall the program on the new system, import that file.

Yes, it'll possibly take a while.

For things like browsers, etc, by the way, I tend to head over to ninite.com - creates a custom installer for you to download and run with (for instance) firefox, 7zip, Malwarebytes, Pidgin, etc - you pick and choose, it installs. Tend to use it any time I set up a windows system or VM.

I've got to call you on this one - not the balance issues, but...

Well, here. From 2002 - pre-beta (look at that interface!) specifically 8 minutes in:
"The third game play feature is the arena, an area where one player can face off against another player, team against another team in a variety of game environments. There'll be tournaments, ranking systems and so forth for people that enjoy facing off against live opponents."

...so saying "they didn't realize players would want it" is, quite simply, false.

(I just happened across this, btw, wasn't actually looking - it was from a related video on the echoey G+ hangout thing.)

    /this.

Also... this is great if you want to run dual builds. One solo build opening up room for pools, a full secondary, etc. and one team one with more emphasis on shielding, debuffs, support and the like.

(Which, yes, is what I did with mine.)
  7. Well, I get to reset the clock. Went in to BB tonight with a little level 19 tank and just messed around (mission/shivan/stealth.) Noticed two other people - one kept changing, so I thought it was a farm.

Nope. Family that hops in and fights each others characters... no build worries, no nothing but goofing around and having fun.

    I've missed that.

acccctually.... that's another possibility, come to think of it.

Go to some of the other servers and start character creation, try the name check at the bottom. It's unlikely to be taken on *all* of them, after all. If it won't take it, it probably would be changed on transfer.

Run a repair on the install and either rerun the arc or do a Yin (also new, also with cutscene) and see how it goes? *shrug* Iunno.

Can't be driver differences, as AMD only has one Win8 Preview driver out. Also doing x64 on the Win8 install (as I *like* having all my RAM available, thankyouverymuch! )

Are you set to dual boot? If so, can you see if it currently works on your previous Windows version? (Which may be another install all together, which would kind of not help if it's an install issue...)

And the whole cutscene caption channel thing is really a sidetrack. >.>

Add "Cutscene Captions" to that tab.

As for the OP - I'm on the Win8 release preview (still hate it,) same video card, same drivers. I saw the captions both in terms of the "popup boxes" as Mot taunts you in DA, and in the cutscenes in the new Yin TF.

Edit: Checking to see if it's something in that story arc - nope, cutscene works fine. Unfortunately, cutscene also has someone with a talking crotch, thanks to badly placed speech bubbles... but I can see them.
  14. Eh. There are a few things that could be done with respecs. Personally, I'm more in option of a "replace single power/replace last X levels" (up to 5, say) coming in.

I don't really see the "tediousness" of slotting IOs (yes, I do have some heavily IO'd characters - I just don't care to do it often.) When I *do* have one that does multiple sets of the same thing, I just put each piece in the same place. "OK, that one has Swan's Handkerchief Acc/Dam in slot 1, so does that one, and.... missing there." *slot*

Alternately, a screen ahead of time that says "Keep this slotting" that auto-slots whatever you had before, picked per power, including the levels of IOs to speed things up a bit. Just so you can concentrate on the changes.

The only thing somewhat related I'd like to get rid of is the enhancement combination screen. Really, I don't need to see a fake "roll" and "tadaa!" or "Nope!" when I'm combining a bunch of DOs/SOs. Just do it.
  15. I'll give you one I've been waiting to see fixed since I5.

Neighborhoods. Specifically, hunts in neighborhoods - and if you notice the issue number, you probably know *exactly* why....
  16. Initially misread this as Comic Blast.

Nuke would be dropping a bunch of Robin Williams clones on the enemy... Get a "Liefield blast" that, upon hitting, affects their speed (they get pointy little feet so they can't run fast) and accuracy (too many pouches and bulges in the way to be able to aim accurately,) etc.

It died down quite a bit after about January/February 2007, then flared up for a few more months when Issue 7 brought the Recluse's Victory zone.
I'd disagree with that. Activity had its ups and downs, sure, but you could usually find SOME activity outside of RV until I13. And I don't just mean "On Freedom and maybe Virtue," as I could see people PVPing in the other zones on most servers (given all my alts... again, to varying degrees.)

  21. No, absolutely not, they're all overpowered and you're insane for suggesting them!

... there, that's out of the way.
  22. Pre-I13, I did PVP. Didn't have any specific builds for it, really. Didn't care to.

Post-I13, on occasion I'll wander into the arena with a friend and mess around. If I ever run across someone in the zones who wants to PVP a bit, I'll mess around with them some - note it's been *months,* possibly hitting a year mark at this point, since that happened.

    But why I don't now...

The number one reason is not finding people in the areas I'm interested in. I'm really *not* interested in Arena - not just for practically required builds (see Neuronia's post elsewhere with a laundry list) but because it'll be the same few people as the teams go on. To me that's just... not interesting. I don't want to get to the point where I look across and say, "Oh, that's so and so, he does such and such, use X to beat him. That's so and so, they're just not good, don't worry about them. Oh, X is here, take them out first."

The zones - especially the lower ones, Bloody Bay and Siren's, were far more fun to me. It was like walking in to a pickup football or basketball game. "Oh, who are they and what can they do?" Without the... rigidity of doing it "professionally."

I've mentioned before, to me there's also the interest in the "hunt" that - well, with the zones dead, doesn't exist. There's no "Hmm, that fire base is weakened, someone must be around - find them!"

SSKing also, to me, broke those lower zones. Bloody Bay is, in essence, a 15-30 zone, not a 15-25 zone - and think about what starts showing up there. Masterminds are the most obvious, with the final pet, but that's just too much of a range for someone at the *bottom* of the range, on DOs/low level IOs to really have fun. Siren's introduces the Tier9s of the primary... and with the newer range for APPs, the very opening of those powers. It's basically moved the upper range up into a mini-Warburg without it being free for all.

And then there's the various things put in *with* I13. Castle didn't like the "suppression" solution for Teleport (disable it completely,) yet he couldn't lower the range without it lowering the range of all *attacks* on th esame character, and never came up with a better solution - so, really, my Warshades already need an alternate travel power, and my PB (that held off a team of villains back in the SO days for several minutes) can't do a quick "TP away - heal - target - TP back and strike" in Dwarf. Things like having an *inspiration* kick in suppression. OK, makes sense for heal suppression, I suppose... but it also kicks in regen/recovery and travel suppression. And of course just having a new player come in and hit the "Wait, why do my powers no longer work like they did? Why am I running slower? Why is my tank/brute/scrapper getting held?" - the learning curve became more of a learning cliff for newer folks who might be casually interested.

Part of it goes back to before I13, as well, actually - Inventions started an arms race. But they on their own didn't do as much to damage PVP.

TLDR version, I suppose, is that the current game and environment no longer *really* supports or encourages the sort of situations I had fun with, such as my little pickup group of - I think it was my Fire/Kin corruptor and two other corrs, or a corr and a dom (it's been a while) essentially held Siren's Call against a good stream of heroes for a good while until we were basically ground down under numbers. I can't see a pure pickup group doing that now - especially with the zones as empty as they are. And the pickups like that were the most fun to me.

We need a good set of boots that are solid but not bulky, and aren't either a) too fancy (i.e., Celestial), or b) too dressed-down (i.e., Overguard).

Maybe the chest/belt design too, with the haphazard pouches (asymmetry!)
When I'm setting up a semi-military/paramilitary/mercenary/soldier sort of look, I end up just using regular boots with the "Combat boots" option. *shrug*

And given the Stealth belt and things like the Olympian (?) chest, not to mention the barbarian (male) straps, i'm kind of surprised they didn't add something like that by now.
