I do, as I believe you somehow don't see the oddness in the statement.

It's like saying "I don't care if other people buy premade salads and enjoy them in their homes," then turning around and saying "I hate that premade salads are available."

I mean, if you don't buy them, they don't affect you directly. You're not losing points or money to them, it's not affecting your characters, etc. There's not a finite supply of recipes that purchasing from the PMart reduces in game. You *cannot tell* short of being told (or logging in to another person's account) if they're using PMart purchased items or in-game drops/Wentworths-purchased items.

And yet you say it bugs you and reduces your enjoyment of the game and the enjoyment you get of your *own* achievements.

For the times we've talked, I don't know what, if anything, you have for hobbies. (Just to get away from game stuff.) Say you were interested in, I don't know, sailing ships. There's a whole range of ways you can model them - from complete scratchbuilding, of course, to wood-on-frame, building up a framework, building the interior (out of actual wood, etc.) and rigging, to using a plastic kit, to buying something premade.

What you're basically saying is that you like (say) the scratchbuild, or the kits where you build the framework and slowly (likely over months) build the decks, etc. - but the mere fact that someone else you've *never met* and likely never will can buy a premade one from amazon, completely rigged, somehow diminishes what you did.

And then you're turning around and saying "But I don't care if other people buy them."

Yes, you *do* at some level. You may not pick up the ship you've been working on for the last ten months and throw it against the wall in frustration at Ships-R-Us selling them, but you *do* care. You just don't want to admit it to yourself. In that, yes, you're being honest - "as far as you know," you don't care, I suppose is the best way of putting it. At some level, you're feeling the need to compare yourself to others, not taking their reasoning into account, just ... I don't know, feeling the need to play a bit of the martyr to yourself, that "I did all this, and they can just run out and buy it."

What I'm trying to say is *don't worry about it.* On *any* level. My first 50 took 500+ hours to get there, we had that nasty content gap at 38, debt was double what it is now, no relief, etc, etc, etc. But I look at that 50 (and play it) and enjoy it... even though it's much easier now. The fact others can get there in, say, 100 hours doesn't diminish my accomplishment *to me.*

You've got something somewhere that's just not letting you do that.

At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

Look how the winter event works. You can buy the set or the proc if that's all you want. You can just play the VARIOUS events until you get enough to buy what you want. Here, you have to go through this extremely boring event, as many times as is necessary to get the only thing many of us want. Especially since the set bonuses on this set are nothing to write home about.

Man Issue 23 and its attendant content is really some of the worst I've seen in this game in years. It's shocking after the win that has been Issue 19-21.
    Surprisingly... I'm agreeing with Geko.

The double feature is fun and fast, yes. Having it be the only part of this... eh. I mean, admittedly, a lot of the stuff you can think of for summer would be tough to implement - a temporary water park? A temp sprinkler power to run through?

I just can't see running through this event very often - aside from the "required to have four people, no more, no less" requirement (and not really caring about the IOs,) there's just not that much variety.

And then there's hybrid... if there's ever an example of dev-designed farming, that's it.

    *sigh*
  10. By the way, EG.

    You're wrong.

Smartalec and required objection out of the way - I do disagree with you, in the case of COH. I think you're taking the effect someone else has of buying things via the Paragon Market *far* out of proportion to the actual effect. Plus, of course, making a few assumptions - like that they'd visit the auction house in game to begin with. (If we were looking at a D3 style real-money auction house as well, I'd be far more willing to grant your point about damaging another player here... but we don't.) You *don't* know that you've lost a/several sales because of people buying, oh, a set of purples on the market, or some thunderstrikes or whatnot. They may not *have* the in-game INF to afford them - not at the prices set by the sellers, historically. In other words, that sale is *not* lost because it didn't exist in the first place.

Alternately, they may not like having enhancements stuck at a particular level (let's take thunderstrike, again, since they're both in game and in the PMart.) They may want them all at the same level (and given some of the self-described obsessive personalities in game, you KNOW there are people like that.) So they ignore the market, preferring Merit Vendors (since you can set the level.) You haven't lost a sale to them. Or they see the "attuned" version on the market and grab that. Another one you haven't lost a sale to.

As far as the "nothing to win" argument - that's... the only way I can put it is "it's your own hang up." First, their obtaining of said badge doesn't hurt you in any way. There's not a limited supply, or "Only 100 people in 24 hours can make the attempt" or any such thing. And second, and related to that, if they can *buy* the pieces to "complete" a build that makes them more confident in TRYING the Master Of.... badge in the first place, well, you've "won" more people to make that attempt WITH. It really is a win/win situation.

You say it affects YOUR feelings about the game. Well, then don't let what other people do *bother* you. If you look at a league's worth of people, can you actually tell, from one IO'd build to another, who has bought versus who has "earned" (as you put it) their builds? And, quite honestly - and you'll have to excuse the indignant tone here - what gives you the right to determine if it's really been "earned?" If someone's been playing the game for (say) five years, but only gets Saturdays to play for a few hours, they've had a 50 for the last year and have never seen a purple, don't have a ton of INF, etc... have they not "earned" the privilege of using them? Is *their* enjoyment (and continued support) of the game and *their* subscription a distant second to *your* ego? Or is the privilege of purples only reserved for the person who can farm 7 days a week to get full sets, or who enjoy screwing around with the market?

Now, all that said, there ARE some things that I agree should remain off the market - but I haven't heard any rumblings about these being there anyway. Things like, oh, Efficiency Expert. Frankly, I want to see more things like that that, yes, you CAN lose at and only get one shot at. And I know full well that's unpopular in some circles. I find farming PVP rep badges, for instance, somewhat offensive, especially when done by someone who actually has zero interest in PVP. I used to make many of the same arguments you did - basically about diminishing the "intrinsic worth" of some item. But I came to realize, quite bluntly, *it doesn't affect me.* It doesn't affect anyone, period. There's not one less badge for me to earn. It doesn't move more things to the PVP zone because there's another badge earned there.

For me, I don't *care* what others do. I can be proud (as much as anything in a video game really deserves pride...) that *I* did things "the hard way," or earned instead of bought them. Take pride in your own accomplishments, and tell the ego of "showing off" - which does nothing to help, generally - to take the night off.

Edit: dug's post gets my ending point across a bit better than my own post, I think.

Sheesh, nitpick. Inherited works as well without "the powerset dying." It's an inherited property - a parent something passes down a trait to something else, which works with this as far as I'm concerned.

For the OP: We already have this for Kheldians, so I wouldn't see it being a huge stretch *in theory.* It's more a question of "ok, so what do I do for THIS powerset?" Some primaries just aren't that... well, interesting to look at, for one. What are you going to do for a costume change for Super Reflexes - dodge clothes? o.O How about Titan Weapons? Willpower? And so forth.

And the person who had rotten luck and only got, say, two pieces? Or didn't have the extra income to keep buying a bunch of points? Or JUST hit tier 9 and used the only token they had to try? Or the people who re/join a month after the packs go away?

What do you tell them? "Ha, ha, you suck, I'm so awesome for having these?"

Frankly, I'd rather give *everyone* a chance to pick them up if desired. Maintain a period of exclusivity, that's fine - but release them separately later.

Or, quite honestly... release the pieces as recipes - no, make that tokens. Something that can be traded, put on the auction house, drop from enemies, crafted, whatever. Find a similar way to release the wolf - defeat Shadowhunter (any version) 10x or something.

Paragon's made their money from the "gotta have it now" crowd. Release it for everyone *else* after a short period.

And again, for the record, I have all the pieces on both accounts. I have bought/redeemed tokens for .. probably far too many packs, mostly for merits and the AOTs. (Never did get the wolf, but I wasn't shooting for it.) So this is not "I don't have it" or "I won't buy it." I want others to have a chance to enjoy these after this is done and gone.

  14. Before you go into throwing IOs into that build, I'd have the build itself looked at so you're not trying to throw a racer's engine into a yugo.

Once it's tuned up a bit, decide where you want to go with the build. Since your requests at the bottom are basically ... well, using IOs, by which I mean most *do* enhance multiple aspects, even without looking at set bonuses. For instance, if you go to the IO wiki page, you'll see Thunderstrike listed as having these individual IOs:
    Acc/Dam
Dam/End - so there's "does damage and lowers endurance"
Dam/Rech - and your "does damage and lowers recharge "
    Acc/Dam/Rech
    Acc/Dam/End
    Dam/End/Rech

... without even looking at set bonuses.

If you don't know how to get your build (or have no idea what those blocks of data are you may see in some builds,) go to the Titan network and grab Titan Sentinel (which will let you grab the build directly from the character) and Mids Hero Designer (which will let you see and play with builds.)

.... you're wrong in that. "I want to stop making money" is not generally considered a good business decision. "I'm doing something that not only is annoying customers NOW but may make them not support future efforts of this sort" is generally not considered a good business decision.

How you can consider "Don't give us money, let us annoy you" a *good* decision is baffling.

Yeah, the superpacks sold. The superpacks sold after people had the costume parts. So obviously the costume's not the only - or even major - reason they sold. I know I'm only one (well, two, two accounts) customer, but I got all my pieces early - then kept picking them up for piles of merits, ATOs and the like. (And no, I never got the wolf, either.)

  17. Very first question - what OS are you running?

If it's Windows XP, or the 32 bit editions of Vista or Windows 7, you functionally can't use more than 3 Gb.
  18. I have no problem with things being "exclusive" for a while. The Celestial set was like that. The preorder sprints were like that (though you didn't pay extra money for them.)

I'd be fine if these were set to remain "exclusive" items for a while - say, the H/V packs go away, and the set shows up on its own six months later. I'm *perfectly* fine with that.

But "We just won't?" That's the sort of thing that immediately sours any goodwill Paragon Studios builds up. There's absolutely no logic to it. You made money off of the H/V packs for it. So, you don't want to... make... more money from the people that didn't get everything (or anything,) or join / return later?

    What's the sense in that?

Paragon, I have other items on my account (the COV CE and COH CE) with "exclusive" items (Arachnos cape, Cape of the Four Winds, Prestige Power Slide.) I bought the COV CE when it was *new* and cost $80 or so. I've always understood the "We won't give away for free something you've paid extra for," and think that's a perfectly sensible stance. However, you'll also find, in pretty much all the threads on those items, that I support making them available in the Paragon Market.

Let me say I support fully the request to make the Elemental Order and Black Wolf "exclusive" items on the market, as well. If you want to put in a time delay (six months,) ok, fine - it even makes sense from a marketing standpoint (not to mention that would put the release near christmas, when people want to spend money on "stuff" anyway.)

Saying "No, we don't want to do this at all?" Poor decision, and really I expect that to be better thought through. This is a poor business decision, and a poor community relations decision.

Going to be really pedantic here in this answer with the versions, but there's reason. Namely, I guarantee people are going to be confused with what does what thanks to the similarity of names.

The Microsoft Surface tablet will not be able to play any x86 software at all. The Microsoft Surface tablet (the first one to be released, estimated price $600) will have an ARM processor, and all software will be gotten through the microsoft store.

The Microsoft Surface PRO tablet may be able to run it. The Surface Pro seems to be getting targeted at about a $1000 price point, and will be released "a few months" later. It has an Intel i5 processor, and will likely take advantage of their integrated (Intel 2500) graphics - which, while it'll "run" COH, probably won't be pleasant. The smaller screen size *may* help, compared to my 1680x1050 screen, but it can't be that big of a difference. Expect to have to turn everything down. We do not know about the amount of memory.

Short answer, the Surface Pro *might* run COH. I doubt it'll be enjoyable. If you're looking for something to play COH in a portable form factor, look into a real notebook. If you're looking at alienware, the M14X (discrete graphics, Core i7 processor, upto 16 Gb RAM, Blu-ray drive) starts at $1099, just $100 over the Surface. And available now, and far more open. And it's not running Win8, itself a plus, IMHO.

I think you're right in that case. it's been a long time since I've looked at them, though. (Or, for that matter, tried to put multples in, say from Celerity and the leaping one in Sprint, for instance. Then again, I don't tend to multislot sprint.)

I was trying to think if they were given a "travel sets" type as opposed to leaping/running/etc, but yeah, they're still set to have only one stealth IO period as opposed to just one from a specific set.

Hmm. I wonder if "behind the scenes" they're sharing a type which lets that happen - kind of related to what you said.
