Quote:So it shouldn't exist at all?Considering you can find recipes and salvage that can sell for millions, the idea that spending maybe 5-6 million total to slot your character from 1-50 as an inf sink is pretty silly. It's such a slight inf sink it might as well not even be there, and really only affects super-new players.
And what of those Free and lower tier Premium who ... *don't get* recipes and salvage, period, as they have no access to inventions? Or the market?
Regardless, I don't agree with the idea. If nothing else, having to go back and refresh SOs makes you take another look at your build as a whole (instead of one power or 2-3 slots at a time) and consider if something's working or not. -
-
Quote:.... and one inf sink gone.Give the new TOs the current SO level numbers, even make 'em scale with level if they want, and make them attuned. Bam. Slotting just because half the chore it currently is. Everyone wins?
I don't know, given we don't have gear in this game (no, IOs are not "gear" that wears out/needs replacing,) regular enhancements are really the only thing that still can serve that purpose universally.
Not to mention "scale with level" - how's that going to work on the lower levels, and at what point do they need to be revisited, either as enhancements or as lower level enemy groups?
If you want an "Update all currently sloted enhancements to max usable level" (with cost showing) button... even per power, it'd do the same thing and maintain its inf-sink-ness. Otherwise even people playing on SOs are going to just be deleting the majority of them instead of using them (and there'd be no reason to *sell* them, and certainly no reason to put them cheaply on the market) fairly early in the game.
Honestly, at what point does it just turn into this? And will people just complain until it's this? -
Quote:And SOME stuff like that is fine.Except that if it's JUST your character, it can't be a threat/issue on the same level or scale as Praetoria/Mot/Battalion, yes? Because the whole idea around those is that they're problems that are too big for any one person to handle.
I mean it's fine if you want something for just your character to deal with, but you should know that it likely won't be AS important as the stuff that requires groups.
Almost all of it? No.
Honestly, we've fought Antimatter/Neuron/Battle Maiden/etc. all solo before. We've beaten them before. Repeatedly, in some cases. Sure, they're getting jacked up on Incarnate Juice... but *so are we.*
In fact, we're getting it directly, not secondhand from Tyrant.
So why does it make the LEAST bit of sense that we've gone from "I can solo this guy on SOs, thanks" to "Hey, I need 23 other people around to be able to leave a scratch on him? And him? And her? And him? And him?" It makes it almost seem like Incarnate-ing is a powering DOWN, in that case, of your character.
*A* bigger threat to cap it off? Sure. Even *A* bigger trial partway through - Underground, dealing with Praetoridon, for instance - sure, absolutely. Having it be absolutely everything? No. -
I think it's less clipping (though I could see that being a fairly serious issue) and more animation/art time that would give the devs pause on this. Plus, I'm not sure it can "attach" that way.
It'd be nifty to have, yes, I'm all for it - I just don't advise holding your breath. -
Quote:... hmm. Power pool attacks available in form... >.>When I want to increase my damage output, I usually want More Powers!
Specifically in Nova and in White Dwarf, I'd like to see an additional single-target attack. Yes, in Nova, I can craft a (slightly sluggish) attack chain by using all four attacks. However, there are times when one Does Not Want to use AoE. That's when the classic trio of fast, medium, and big attacks works well. I find the same problem with White Dwarf - I'm missing an attack.
Be Well!
Fireheart
<Edit> And Toggle Suppression!
(OK, maybe not, nova would require more animation time. It'd help dwarf - oh, what the heck, let nova tail-smack stuff if it has fighting pool attacks.)
Honestly, it's the lack of attacks in White Dwarf specifically that bugs me. Dark's heal works as a (short) attack, and DDMire gives a buff - unless I've been leaning heavily on recharge, White Dwarf has a fair number of pauses. One additional attack would be nice. (And it's where the "drop to human" suggestion doesn't really work all the time - if I'm in a mez/stun heavy group, that can be a fairly bad idea.) -
Quote:I (obviously) see it differently - all the different things to do on different servers with different people, for me, is part of what keeps the game interesting. It's not just another way of having more slots, for me (and my 300-some alts...)As I stated, I have absolutely no interest in starting over on a new server, much less trying to convince my online friends to move to another server as well to start rebuilding an SG and Base from scratch when we already spent years doing so on our home server.
By increasing the amount of Character Slots available on each server (up to 60 or 72), the Devs could help insure that players could continue to create new character concepts on their home servers with their core server community, which would add longevity to the game for those players.
But again, I'm not against more slots. Mostly encouraging people to branch out a bit - it's not as bad as you think! -
I don't know, I rather like being able to wander over to the market and save a few million INF at times by buying "off level" (33/34/36/37 instead of 35, for instance) enhancements or recipes.

Time needs a rez like a sparrow needs a CDL and a semi.

I've had a bind (that admittedly I don't use much) that if I used shift-sysrq (same as the printscreen button,) it would first turn on the UI (/screenshotui 1), then take a screenshot (/screenshot) then turn the UI off for the next regular shot (/screenshotui 0.)

Do they get a really nifty outfit? Maybe a sword (or at least a cudgel?)
Alternately needing a long white beard, robes, and a heavy leather-bound book. (Beard optional if the keeper is female.)
(Not disagreeing in the slightest. I just now have this image of the Keeper of Continuity in my head, walking up behind someone writing something fairly out of whack and hitting them on the head with The Tome.) -

Quote:All writers shall henceforth be required to recite the number for the local taxi company and the route from the studio to the nearest bar, from memory....There's a special test London cab drivers have to take to become licensed to drive a taxi. One element of the test involves being able to recite, from memory, the precise route from one location to another location without the use of maps which obeys the traffic requirements, including honoring one way roads. This must be done from memory and its pass-fail. I have often thought that writers whose job involves writing stories within an established canon should be required to take such a test.

Quote:So, say, my Earth/FF 'troller basically needs to be deleted because it's "a problem" it takes longer to complete a mission than a scrapper? No. Or longer than a Fire/Kin? No. It's a different playstyle. Period. When it takes one combination 20 times as long as another one, that's a problem any way you slice it.
Quote:This isn't WoW. Our combat speeds are such in this game that gap closing is trivial. We don't need Team Teleport to do it. You're reaching.
But hey, feel free to completely ignore that because you don't like it. *shrug* Won't be the first time. (See also knockback - "It's completely useless!" "No, not to me, I use it this way, this way, this way, and just knockdown wouldn't help as much." "You're wrong, it's never useful!")
Quote:Are you really saying that something that people paid RL money for to get is 'utterly useless'. Yeah OK. That's not even worth arguing against. -
Remember, be sure to just create a blanket dismissal of those who *do* try to enjoy the lore and keep tripping over things that are badly done. No, it doesn't matter in the least that that's the part of the game they like, and that the forums are really the only place to *air* those grievances... no, no, just go ahead and dismiss them because you don't feel it's important.
/golfclap -
That, IMHO, would be a more acceptable way to accomplish adding ATT to the set - scale the END up to however many are TP'd, perhaps.

Quote:Then again, I think most of the forumites tend to be so wound up over "ZOMG I must have98723490328742 DPS and capped this and blah blah blah" that they miss the whole *game* part.Again, I tried to present this in the most non-confrontational way I knew. It wasn't personal. But seriously Bill, you consistently seem to take powers that are regarded as not being very strong or particularly useful.
And then I see some of those same people complaining about how such and such is "unsoloable" or "too weak" - or, for instance "can't take down trapdoor" on their oh so uber IO builds... and I've done so fairly easily on SOs.
Quote:Lastly, you don't have to 'play a spreadsheet' to just plain understand that the game rewards killing lots of enemies quickly.
Some of the reward, quite frankly, is getting costume parts unlocked. Or seeing how a certain storyarc goes. For me, part of the "reward" is seeing how differently content feels between different sets.
Quote:I genuinely think that's a shame. I wish the game would find way to reward players for using powers like Team Teleport.
Quote:On that power. Sure, one AT (MMs) can find some use for the power. But it's not controversial to say that Team Teleport isn't well liked and not particularly useful to most characters.
How many PBAOE powers are there? Holds, debuffs, stuns, enemy-targeted buffs? How useful would it be for them to be applied *on arrival* instead of everyone chasing over one after the other.
How would that not be "particularly useful" to more than just MMs?
Quote:But if it came to a choice, I don't think the Cottage Rule (which is followed too dogmatically IMO) should prevent the change from a power with objectively minimal uses from being changed.
The dev team was nearly lynched. You'll note this is the first time we had pools expanded to five powers....
Quote:To many sets and powers are locked into mechanics that don't reflect the game that is actually played. -
Quote:Excuse me?Serious question, I know that the internet doesn't always properly convey tone, so I want you to know that I am genuinely curious.
Do you purposefully take powers/powersets that are weaker or have minimal uses?
I take the powersets and/or pool powers I find use for. I don't care about numbers or how popular they are.
Team Teleport, for instance, I'll use to drag a bunch of melee MM pets directly into battle (instead of having some decide to throw pebbles at the enemy, others run in,) or - well, for instance, some friends and I set up an all electric Sapper team. I use Team TP for us all to get there at once, all hit Short Circuit (which, en masse, makes for a lot of twitching...) etc.
Changing it to Assemble the Team completely eliminates those uses.
I, personally, don't care if you see it as "weaker" or find its use, for yourself, "minimal." Then again, I'm not playing a spreadsheet.
Also:
Quote:Changing Group TP into a lower recharge Assemble the Team is not a Cottage Rule violation. Both before and after the power teleports your team. This would be much less of a stretch than Energize was.
The problem is that the *means* of use is vastly different - yes, the power does related things, but the way you propose utterly eliminates the usefulness it has *now* for something we can get via a (or several) temp powers. -
-
I don't, frankly, see how tying two pool powers from totally different pools together will help. Group Fly has other issues, and Team TP... well, as a *combat* group teleport instead of a "travel power," it works fine. People learn to stick together so everyone can melt the next group at once.
What I want out of Team Teleport is a little wider radius, if anything. Group Fly, for how I use it, is fairly useless. Having a slightly wider radius (and having people arrive in the same order/relative location as where you left) would be fine. -

Quote:Nope. Not trying to be a smart alec or say they shouldn't add anymore, but this is sort of the way I see it. 48 is a MASSIVE number of slots. Heck, 36 for premium is too. I can't recall a single other MMO where you could get anywhere near that on a single server. Surely, somewhere in those dozens and dozens of toons, you have one or two that aren't seeing any use, and can be safely deleted?
Having played several other MMOs... well, if we had our character possibilities in other MMOs, other MMOs would split out quite a few of these as separate classes, I'm sure.
Most seem to have their "healer," their "Tank," their "DPS," maybe their "Buffer/debuffer." And once you've played one, you've played them all.
Meanwhile, my Ice/Emp plays far different from my Fire/Kin from an Ill/Sonic from.... -
Quote:I tend to find it easy to suggest "Hey, lets start something new over here" for people I refer to *as* friends. Then again, mine (who really do form a fairly tight-knit group) will throw out "what the heck, why not" new theme/superteam suggestions themselves and pick a server. That makes a lot of assumptions, Bill.
It assumes that the friends are all part of a tight-knit core group that do everything together.
It assumes the friends are all interested in starting new characters at the same time.
It assumes they're all running out of character slots at the same time, or willing to pick up and move because one of them is.
Besides, you're not "picking up and moving." You're expanding. You swap back and forth. Not doing a mass transfer and abandonment.
Even *without* that group, you can start a theme team and set time to play. "Superteams" aren't exactly a new idea. Announce it, say which server, announce on that server with details, start having fun with a whole server's worth of new slots. -
Quote:Do believe there's a guide to commissioning somewhere....Ok, I'll be brave and speak up (maybe for quite a few)... what exactly is this "commmission" stuff ? My guess is you do some type of art or reproduction of characters ? I've looked several times, but it's not clear to me. Sorry to sound clueless. Thanks.
Yes, it's pay-for-art. (Sometimes people will do trades/free, but they usually won't call those "commissions.") We can't talk about prices here - you'll note in my thread of comissioned art, the most I'll say is "they're cheap for what they've done" or "really worth the price" or (don't think I've ever used this) "way overpriced for the end result."
Follow the links Techbot gave to his deviantart page in the first post, and he'll have prices (and other samples, typically) there. If you decide you like his style/result/etc, then set up a commission with him.
Some people want to be paid in advance, or at least get *an* advance (since some people will... well, not pay.) If it's not stated explicitly, find out in advance.
Get *good, clear* screen shots of your character. Be descriptive in what you want - but also be realistic. If he says (just as a for instance, haven't been to TBA's page) "$10 for single character, no background," don't expect a full comic book page, multiple panels and scenes for $30 or some such. (Those tend to be expensive in any case.)
Get a timeframe, but be (reasonably) flexible in it - things happen.
Find out if you get a preview, choose poses, etc. Some people just knock these things out so fast it's really not realistic to expect one! Usually with more detailed (and higher cost...) pieces, you'll get preliminary, rough sketches to get an idea and to approve. It varies from artist to artist.
Don't pester, but if there's no queue and you haven't heard from them for a while... do ask for a status update (like, say, two weeks if they say "I should be done next weekend" and they haven't said there'd be a delay.)
Character views:
I tend to make them for all the outfits (and generally update when there have been big changes.) Other people may pick a "main" outfit - be sure relevant detail can be seen. F'rinstance, for Madison in that warlordwardog piece (over in the Memphis Art 2012+ thread) I sent him this and specified which outfit to use. (The full size is a bit of a forum breaker.) You may just want one specific outfit.
If they need brighter views or have other questions, find a better place - I do like Studio B in AE, honestly. -
