  1. Player response, every thread:

    "But I want it!"
  2. Tsch, I know that, I read the wiki article and all. Should I not have used the actor's name, and found another way to ref the PSA?
  3. [Iron-Eyes Cody turns to the camera, a single manly tear running down his proud native cheek.]
  4. I wonder how many posters here just hate the "club" haircuts on anyone.
  5. "I run with a gang, but you've probably never heard of it."
  6. Ironik, SlickRiptide:
For what it's worth, I agree with you.
    Will it happen? We'll see.

If you say so. But imagine that expanded to regular content, and beyond!

Maybe your fully-Incarnated and IO'd hero Tank Man gets ambushed and defeated by a bunch of level 10 Skulls, because Mr. Shgoratchx! is in town and thought it would be funny. You can try to outwit him, but it's probably easiest to just endure his "zany" antics for an hour until he pops off back to the 8th Dimension.

Then next week, in a moral dilemma Which Will Change Things Forever, you have to decide whose account gets suspended - yours, or your best friend's. (Fortunately, this only lasts a month. Nothing in comics is permanent, except the status quo.)

Either way, after you (or your friend) get back, it's time for Crossover Season! For three whole months, you get to play nothing but event content. In fact, you're required to be at your computer at least twice a week at a certain time, logged in and ready to go. (Actually, hold on... I understand that in some games, people already do this, and even think it's fun.)

After that finally ends, you'll have to deal with Purple Enigmite reversing your controls and scrambling your power buttons for 24 hours, and face another dilemma when Tank Man's Girlfriend Maisy Mae asks you if this dress makes her look fat. (Spoiler: there is no correct answer.)

    Sound good to you?

I go by what I see.

Lots of people: Stop ignoring your own lore!
Current dev team: *continue ignoring own lore*

When do you expect this to change? Why?

Anyone may ask / demand answers of the gods. Getting them is another matter, and answers that aren't "no" still another.
The first of these is just shouting at the sky.

    You know what's comics?

"The hero fails / loses / is defeated because the script says so."

Try that here. Players would scream.
(As they did about SSA1, repeatedly.)

How would that work for you, Johnny? You can have your godly tank, and handily defeat most everything... but every now and then, not all the time but sometimes, and you wouldn't know until it happens, you just lose. Nothin' you can do. Your powers, your skill, it all means nothing. Because that's how it's written, that's what the writer and editor say happens.

(It could probably even be coded, like the streak breaker we have now. Hook up the RNG and hand out arbitrary defeats every so often. No saving throw, no resistance or mitigation, just bam, dead / locked down and chain-held / whatever.)

    Absolutely.
The thing is, if you expect either response to make any significant difference in editorial policy, my (pessimistic) opinion is that you're deluded. They'll keep doing things the way they want to, fan outcry be damned (or rather, simply ignored).

When you have a corset strapped to thigh-high high-heel boots via garter belts and leather sleeves belted to each other with a bare chest, it doesn't matter if you wear that over pink long johns - what it looks like is a woman wearing bondage gear one way or the other.

Why I bring this up is this is the primary reason I dislike Penny's costume on a principle level. Her pants look like thigh-high high-heel boots over panties and her top looks like a corset.
Yes. That's exactly what these costumes are meant to look like/imply/evoke. You have figured it out. I congratulate you on your perspicacity, sir!

Should they? Should this be the featured character of the new issues, the "face" of the game as you say? That's another question. But as your first link proves, you can't say that Penny's new costume (or Sister Psyche's before her) doesn't fit the source material. It's every bit as impractical, titillating, objectifying, sexist, and potentially offensive!

(Heck, it's a step up from Shalice's green lingerie as far as actual amount of skin shown. )

Just as long as you understand that's really only practical in a single-player game and/or solo mission (arc). I'm not here to be your spear-carrier/admirer/sidekick/audience.
  13. One thing that's always bugged me about the States vs. ACU image, in all its variations - why are we showing the Superman of the setting going up against a lieutenant-level robot on anything like equal terms? Put him against his opposite number, or one of the other Praetors, but he should be able to knock down IDF 'bots like bowling pins.
  14. Sam:
Are you kidding? Penny's costume is so representative of comics, it (almost literally) hurts! It's distilled Nineties! And if a look at my comic store's racks tells me anything, it's that the Nineties Are Back with the Big Two. Hooray, 20-year cycle!

You (and I) may find it tasteless, but I defy you to tell me that Penny's face paint, spine-twisting fan-serving posture, and pouch-tastic outfit aren't authentic. I'm half-tempted to have one of my con-going friends commission a sketch of her by Jim Lee or the Liefeld himself to complete the circle.

(Hey, no one ever said this game was only going to cover the good parts of the genre.)
  15. Twice a year? Try twice a week.

Lots of people want it, but it's just not happening.
  16. I've been wishing for a "true white" option for a good portion of these 8 years, yes.

I was cajoled into bubbling a demon farm once. Reminded me a fair bit of Gauntlet. I thought my poor minimum-spec-in-04 video card was going to melt. I was also terrified, immediately after, that it might have put me over the range for an arc that was very thematically important for my character (this was long before Flashback, of course); it didn't, barely, but for a few hours I was bitterly certain I was going to be punished for my sin.
  17. ah, Issue 0 mission design.

    "Save the burning orphanage!"
    Defeat 12 Orphans

(not my joke, just repeating it)
  18. Ogi, don't even try painting the Resistance as anything less than unambiguously heroic. Not with GG. She's picked the side that, in her mind, lets her avatar be purely good and righteous and not get so much as a smudge of Praetoria's muck on her. Guilt-by-association only applies to the other side.

(Personally, I have another solution for characters I don't want tarnished by such storylines - I don't play that content with them.)
  19. I was going to play a Staff character, but I took an arrow to the... I mean, I saw too many people poking the ground at their feet with a really annoying sound, and... no. Sorry.

Less hoe-ing, more spinning and thwacking, please.
  20. Only saw this thread 'cause it was bumped, so here are some very late thoughts.

Some of my friends refer to Judgment as the "Yeah, No" Button. As in, "Hey look, a spawn of..." "Yeah, no." *ZOT*

Hybrid could definitely use some work, but I don't consider myself qualified to even suggest what. Arcanaville(someone who IS qualified, IMO)'s note on what players can (be manipulated to) accept is well-taken.

Haven't noticed a huge difference from Destiny myself, except in the highly specific case of the UG Trial and "If you do not bring this many Clarions, You Will Fail." Which I'm not entirely certain is good design, but... *shrug* (Kind of like how you can have a whole zone beat on a Giant Monster all day, but without at least one (and often just one is enough) with some kind of -regen like Rad or Dark, you're not touching his health bar.)
  21. Draeth: Because that way is Wrong.
(I did note that it was an emotional response.)

Make a character, a person, a hero, not a pile of numbers attached to a "toon."
  22. I still occasionally reference "Statesman Fun(tm)", which may or may not have anything to do with actual fun.

I will always be proud to have been part of the Taxibots. If there is less call for them these days, that's a testament to how the game has improved; the group was created to fill a need (a few of them, in fact), and did so admirably, IMO.

I remember when Issue 2 gave us respecs, and seeing whole teams of heroes who really truly needed one flopping out of the front doors of Terra Volta and faceplanting on the concrete.
  23. "Cole gives the orders; who's to say if they're right?
That's not my department," says Praetor White.
  24. My first two characters were FF and SR. One trick ponies, pure Def in a world that has steadily chipped away at the effectiveness of same. Debuffs, buffs for other sets (including new sets that give most or all of the practical benefits plus other goodies, like Ninjitsu and Sonic), autohits that outright ignore the entire set, IOs and bonuses and builds that regularly hit the softcap...

It would be nice to matter again.

Might as well just take kb out of the game entirely, at this rate.
