  1. My favorite concept character was conceived over ten issues ago, when the game was quite different, and is now unlikely to ever exist as I imagined him.

He was a good cop, young and earnest, set up and shot down by bad ones. But his soul could not rest, and so he returned - first to deal with his murderers, then to fight other injustices.

He would have been a Dual Pistols scrapper (yes, yes, I know) with Invulnerability, defined as ghostly intangibility. I was going to take the Concealment pool all the way up to Phase Shift... but then the Devs went and nerfed that power into uselessness to accommodate PvP, and never bothered to go back and fix it.
  2. We're all told that heroes are supposed to be selfless paragons who help everyone. But under (almost) every mask is a person, with their own feelings, biases, and prejudices. So let's be honest here: are there any times when your hero... hesitates? Or even refuses? Or rescues from monsters only to arrest them yourself?

I'm not talking about what the game throws at us, not about "no kidnaps, plz" or "I don't feel like fighting Thorns today." This is more a roleplaying thing. This is about your character. What's their blind spot?

Fascists? Hippies? Domestic abusers? Lawyers? Crey? Malta?
  3. well, you missed at least one: "eradicated."
  4. I just wanted to point out the irony of everyone posting "no" in this thread with the LOYALIST sig image, which features... a character with Dual Pistols.

(Yes, I know he's going to be a blaster. Even though he looks like, at the least, a blapper.)
  5. Just here to join in the mocking of "it seems obvious to me".

    Same here.

As usual I was more interested in letting people experience the story than in trying to kill them.
Wuss. Where's the challenge in that?
  8. "Alternative" does not necessarily imply "as fast, if not even faster". Assuming you take at least some AE missions that award some xp, you can eventually get to 50 without leaving the building. You just can't do it in three days anymore.

You must not live in a major US city. :/

    Sam:
You are, of course, correct. But do not underestimate the power and seduction of "but this is the way it's always been done." See also "it's proven and it works," for certain values of working.

There is always tension between the conservative and innovative impulses, from the individual up to companies and beyond.
  11. All ants everywhere? Yeah, that's not going to happen.

But getting them out of this one kitchen? That's a clear, attainable and IMO desirable goal.
  12. I'll give it a shot. What's the arc?
  13. But that would require the Devs to actually go over the old content and change it to reflect how the game has changed in the last five years, and we all know how likely THAT is.

(Special mention must go to the Angus McQueen mission where he thanks you for keeping the Rikti from linking up with their homeworld and kicking off a second invasion. For bonus points, turn that one in while the skies are green and bombs are falling.)
  14. Few players want to be spear-carriers in someone else's story, especially if that someone is presented as much more powerful and/or cool than they are. (One of the primary offenses of the official villain content is that you spend most of your time being a lackey to others.)

In other words, your subject line may be quite accurate.

Consider how the MA system, in general, was received and exploited. Consider further that some tried to argue that the Devs should have known it would happen and were negligent. These people argued, essentially, that they and their fellow players have absolutely no self control and will exploit anything that the Devs fail to adequately proof against such. We are now, as authors, suffering the results of this.
  16. Appropriate that the final screenshot was taken on top of the giant atom in Aeon City, since that's about the size of the Idiot Ball involved in this arc.

    "Lord Mesisen". Really, @Aristocras? Really?
  17. What Rodion said. The market isn't going to change - it's supply and demand in action. People will pay what they will pay, and if they want it bad enough, they will pay more than you've got. What you can and should change is your own expectations and goals.
  18. Why don't you just go ahead and call it what you want it for: "PVP Teleport."
  19. The issue I have with Walk is a minor one, and mostly shows the depths of my not-quite-OCD...
It's the icon, see. It doesn't match the others. The little guy has actual feet and the border around him is sharp, not anti-aliased. Compare to Sprint to see what I mean.

I know it's very possible that the person who did those icons back in Issue -1 isn't even with Paragon Studios anymore, but... I want my little Helvetica Man/pill person to look like all the others.

So as far as I'm concerned there are no "multi-arcs", only cases of multiple incomplete arcs that may reference each other.
More and more, I am coming to think that the concept of the "acceptable to Venture arc" is the equivalent of one of those ten-minute films shot in black and white in an alley, with a handheld video camera and natural lighting only, featuring the objects and clutter found there. Around the 2:35 mark, two men - real locals, not actors - pass through the alley having an unscripted conversation about women and sports. Nothing else happens for the remaining 7 minutes.

Enjoy your artistic purity. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be over there, ignoring the rules and having sinful wrong fun.

Several, actually, each with their own doomsday plan or device that led to them ruling their world - but the one that's identified (and appears in one of my arcs) is Gamma Upsilon 28-3.
  22. IMO, there is a difference between taking a name that someone has already decided to give up and offer to whoever wants it, and seeking someone out and pressuring them (even lightly) to surrender it so that you can have it, then deciding later that you don't want it anymore. The name would never have been "in the pool" if not for you taking an active role.
  23. That's not the same as getting it from the name thread.
  24. As far as I'm concerned, all of this meaningless chest-beating for one imaginary side or the other belongs in Forum Games.

Yes. But in that case I was arguing against someone who felt that adding another convenient place to buy inspirations (after you're sent to the hospital, which is when IMO you most often need them, having emptied your tray) was unnecessary redundancy.

I'm a firm advocate of sense-of-world. Of tedium, especially tedium deliberately inserted to stretch out subscription time? Not so much.
(Makes you wonder why I'm playing an MMO, then. :/ )
